Churcher Prepared For War Against McEwan On August 15th

A mouth watering domestic clash, between Newport’s Lee Churcher and Edinburgh’s Craig McEwan, is set to feature on the undercard of the upcoming Thomas Melville’s Colloseum Promotions THE COMEBACK event at the Lagoon Leisure Centre in Paisley, Scotland on Saturday 15th August 2015, which is headlined by the Craig Docherty-Michael Kelly WBU World Super Welterweight Championship showdown.

 

Churcher (12-3-1), who secured the BBBofC Welsh area title with a ninth round stoppage victory over Barrie Jones in 2012, but never got to defend it before switching allegiance to the MBC, comes into the fight off a six win streak.

 

His opponent, McEwan (22-4-1) will be making his first home appearance since returning from America, where he fought amongst others World Champions Andy Lee and Peter Quillin.

 

On paper the bout looks set to be a stormer as both protagonists are very much ‘attack is the best form of defense’ minded, so much so that a number of on-line pundits have mooted that this is likely to be an out and out toe-to-toe war, very much in a similar vain to those classic battles between Arturo Gatti and Mickey Ward back in 2002/3.

 

A train of thought that virtually mirrors Churcher’s own, as was made clear when he spoke earlier.

 

“This is a massive fight for me, I’m really looking forward to fighting him, he’s tough and a big puncher, much like me really.

 

These are the type of fights real fighters want, challenging to put it mildly, fights like this are made for the big occasion and they don’t get much bigger than this, well in Scotland that’s for sure, there’s the Craig Docherty-Michael Kelly title fight headlining and Scott Harrison will be making his return on the show too.

 

That said, I think it will be our fight the fans will talk about most, especially afterwards, It’s going to be a war in there.

 

Yeah he’s been in with some good names, but that doesn’t worry me, it’s not an option for me, I can’t lose, it’s as simple as that.

 

I’m going to take the fight to him, have to really, his right hand delivers a devastating blow, so mustn’t give him the room to use it, I’ve got to get in there and give it to him first.

 

I’m not worried about the occasion or that it’s on his home turf, OK so I’m likely to receive a hostile reception, but that’s fine with me.

 

Saying that there are some fans coming up to support me, obviously it’s a long trip for my fans, it’s a massive journey for them, I appreciate that and can’t thank them enough for traveling all that way to Scotland to watch me fight.”

New Date and Venue for Rising Star Promotions: Saturday, AUGUST 1 AT VANDETTA BOXING IN VINELAND, NJ

Vineland, NJ (July 15, 2015)–Due to a conflict with the New Jersey Motorsports Park, the July 25 Rising Star Promotions event has been moved to Saturday August 1 at Vendetta Boxing (217 West Peach Street) in Vineland, New Jersey.

Said Debbie LaManna of Rising Star Promotions, “I just want to thank the people at Vandetta Boxing. We had a couple of unforeseen issues with the New Jersey Motorsports Park and we were fortunate to have found a nice venue to host this event.”

Two co-features will headline the card.

In the six-round Heavyweight co-feature, John Lennox (13-2, 5 KO’s) of Carteret, New Jersey will fight Dan Pasciolla (3-1) of Brick, New Jersey

In a 6-round co-feature, Jeff Lentz (5-0, 1 KO) of Lanoka Harbor, NJ will fight Marlon Brown (4-0, 2 KO’s) of Brooklyn, NY in a battle of undefeated Welterweights.

“Me and Ismael had great chemistry right away from the first day of training.

 

On fighting at cruiserweight: “All I thought about was making weight when I fought at 175. There was too much stress on my body to lose weight and it was also affecting me psychologically because all I thought about was losing weight.

The evening event on SHOWTIME® features Mexican superstar Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (48-2-1, 32 KOs) returning to the ring to face Marcos Reyes (33-2, 24 KOs). In the evening’s co-main event, Puerto Rican Olympian McJoe Arroyo (16-0, 8 KOs) takes onArthur Villanueva (27-0, 14 KOs) of the Philippines for the IBF Junior Bantamweight World Championship. Televised coverage begins at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT with undefeated 140-pound contender Amir “Young Master” Imam (17-0, 14 KOs) taking on veteran former world title challenger Fernando “La Fiera” Angulo (29-9, 16 KOs) in a world title eliminator.

“I am trying to get back to the level I once was at. I spent a lot of time out of the ring with non-boxing issues, but now I feel fully focused in the ring.
“I feel more comfortable in the ring and I feel like I have the right tools to win this fight on Saturday.
“Each fight you must prove something, you need to win and put on a good show. I think the fans will see a great fight on Saturday between two Mexican fighters. When I fight I try to do my best in the ring.
“I think 168 is a good weight class for me. Going into my last fight I had an extended period of time off and I didn’t know how my body would respond.
“I will have two more fights this year, but I can’t look past this Saturday. I respect my opponent, because all my opponents are looking to beat me.
“Training with Robert Garcia has been great. I have a great connection with him because he knows how fighters are feeling in the ring.
“I am working more on my jab, I have changed a little bit of my style under Robert Garcia.”

 

MARCOS REYES

“Training camp has been the best it has ever been and I am in great shape to win this fight.

 

“I am so excited for this opportunity to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. I have been counting down the days.

 

“I am not sure how it will end, but I know that I want the knockout. But, I have the preparation for 10  rounds so I just know I am going to win.

 

“I have the best trainer in my corner [Nacho Beristain].  He’s trained the best for many years.  This is no mistake that we are training together and there is no room for mistakes on Saturday.

 

“He’s a great fighter.  He doesn’t need to imitate Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., but he’s always trying to do it.  He has skills, but as a boxer he keeps making the same mistakes imitating his dad.  And that’s why he hasn’t done what he’s capable of in boxing.

 

“I don’t know what’s going to happen Saturday.  They only thing I can tell you is that I’m ready to win and I will win on Saturday.”

 

 

CARL FRAMPTON

“I’m very excited. Fighting for the first time in the United States on CBS, this is an incredible opportunity for me to get great exposure.
“His dad was a great champion, a great fighter. I respect both Gonzalez Jr. and his father.
“It’s just levels really, and I am at a better level than Alejandro Gonzalez Jr. He’s a good fighter, I’m giving him credit. He will come to fight and make it interesting, but I have all the tools to beat him.
“He will try to keep it long, most of my opponents do. I can punch very hard and when I hit people they tend to go backwards.

 

“From the start he will try to keep it a long fight, but it’s up to me to use tactics that will work. We have plan A and plan B, but we think plan A will work.”

 

ALEJANDRO GONZALEZ JR.

“My career was going excellent until I made a mistake and took a fight that I shouldn’t have. My team was telling me no and I took the fight anyway which led to my first and only loss. They say ‘what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger,’ and I truly believe that.

 

“They call Carl Frampton a superstar in the UK. He has a world championship. I’m a contender.

 

“When I become champion, I will have a following, especially when I beat Carl Frampton.

 

“Everyone has a different style. I’m an intelligent fighter. I’m a Mexican that just takes punches. I can take care of myself. I’m 23-years-old and ready to fight a good fight against a good opponent.

“There are weaknesses in Carl Frampton’s game, but I can’t tell you in case he hears my plan.

AMIR IMAM

“Boxing forces you to be strong. It takes a lot to get in that ring.

 

“This fight is dedicated to Jake LaMotta.  It is his birthday and a lot of people would get belts and not take them seriously, but he held belts with pride. I never met him, but I’m dedicating this fight to him.

 

“The goal is to fight for and win a world title.

 

“I’m a boxer-puncher. Every fight you learn something.

 

“Angulo is a veteran. He’s a good fighter. He’s been in title fights and fought some names. I’m prepared for a great fight.”

 

CHRIS ARREOLA

“The main thing is to give the fans a great show. I am going to go for that title. I’m working and grinding.

 

“Training camp has been going very well. I have been in camp for six weeks. The main thing about this fight is my boxing performance. My weight is what it is, this is me.

 

“I may not have the six-pack, but I will have the punch to knock somebody out.

 

“I am committed to boxing. I love boxing, and this training camp has been good for me.

 

“I would be a fool to say that it doesn’t cross my mind to fight again for the title.  At the end of the day, Saturday is much more important than a title shot.

 

“I want my opponent out of that ring as soon as possible.”

 

ROBERT GARCIA, Chavez Jr.’s Trainer

“I can’t say I have noticed anything different because I haven’t been in his previous camps. All I can say is that he has showed me something that I didn’t expect.

“All I heard from the fans and the media was the way he conducted his training camps, but I was surprised. I got nothing but good results. He showed up to the gym every day and did everything he was supposed to do.
“He has sparred just around 100 rounds, that’s more than he has done in any other training camp. The training camp was much easier than I expected.
“I’m training Julio not just to beat Marcos Reyes, but I’m training Julio to get him better for three or four fights from now to look at something real big.
“This is the biggest opportunity in Reyes’ career, so we must be ready for him. He also has a great trainer in Nacho Beristain, who may be the best trainer ever, so we must be ready for that too.
“Right after Julio’s loss to [Andrzej] Fonfara, he got right back in the gym to prepare for this fight. He wants to fight on Saturday and then have two more fights before the end of the year. I think this is exactly what Julio needs, to stay active. The fighters that fight just once or twice a year lose their rhythm.”

 

JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ SR.

 

“Julio Jr. is in very good shape. He’s had a very good training camp with Robert Garcia and I’m very happy with him as a trainer.

 

“This fight is a must-win fight for my son. He cannot lose. It will hurt his career very much to lose again.”

 

BARRY MCGUIGAN

“Carl is looking sensational. He’s looking better every time he trains. He’s maturing. You don’t get guys who mature when they’ve won the title. They normally mature as a fighter working their way up, but he’s relatively inexperienced.

 

“He’s only had 20 fights, but he had an extensive amateur career.  He’s a very talented guy. Chronologically, he’s 28, but physiologically he’s more like in his early twenties.

 

“He’s hugely excited about his U.S. debut and today’s turnout has only amped that up. We know we’re up against a difficult kid.

 

“We think he’ll be more difficult than his last mandatory defense against Chris Avalos. We think he’ll be cuter than Avalos and fight more defensively. Carl is going to have to go get him. The bottom line here is we have to make an impression.

 

“He has to be exciting and make an impact and then we’ll come back again St. Patrick’s Day and try to get the winner of Santa Cruz and Mares.”

 

 

NACHO BERISTAIN, REYES’ TRAINER

 

“This will be my third fight training Marcos Reyes. The other two times I trained him, Marcos won by knockout.

 

“Although he performed well in those two fights, I can see a big difference in Marcos. He is entirely focused on boxing and is much more mature. His mind is completely on his opponent and that’s what will make the difference on Saturday.

 

“Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is trying very hard to become just like his father and gain the same amount of fame that his father received. The only thing I can tell you is that Julio Cesar Chavez is the greatest fighter in Mexican history; he is phenomenal and made his name working very hard.”

Pro Boxing Returns To Cyclones’ MCU Park For The First Time Since 2001.
BROOKLYN, NY (July 15, 2015) – World-renowned boxer Dmitriy Salita and his Brooklyn Brawl series will heat up Coney Island on Tuesday, Aug. 25, as the former IBF, WBA and NABA International Junior Welterweight Champion brings “Boxing At The Beach” back to MCU Park, the home of baseball’s Brooklyn Cyclones. Salita Promotions will open a year’s worth of events with a professional fight card at the New York Mets’ minor league venue on that evening, giving New York City and area sports fans a chance to catch rising stars and contenders as they rumble at the boardwalk.

Gates open at 6 p.m. with the first bout scheduled for 7 p.m. as “Brooklyn Brawl: Boxing At The Beach” brings pro bouts to the Coney Island boardwalk for the first time in 14 years. The last professional boxing event at the Brooklyn Cyclones’ venue occurred on July 8, 2001, when Hector Camacho Jr. defeated Jesse James Leija via a controversial, referee-halted TKO.

“I am very excited to bring the Brooklyn Brawl series to the home of the Brooklyn Cyclones in Coney Island,” said Salita, who fought out of Flatbush, Brooklyn, as a professional. “Coney Island is a world-famous gathering place and a hub in New York City, where people come to get rest and relaxation and fabulous entertainment. Headlining the Aug. 25 Brooklyn Brawl in Coney Island will be Alex Miskartachian (25-3-1), a world-rated former world title challenger and two-time European champion from Armenia. Miskartachian will take on former NABO champion Cornelius Lock (22-7-2) in a main event featherweight clash. Lock, who was born in Detroit, Mich., now calls Flatbush, Brooklyn, his home.

Undefeated lightweight contender Dimash Niyazov, of Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, will face his sternest test as a pro, when he meets former New York State champion and Jamaica, Queens, native Ariel Duran, in a Kings vs. Queens County crossroads NYC clash.

Junior welterweight prospect Treysean “Trigger” Wiggins (6-1, 5 KOs) has signed on for the Brooklyn Brawl fight card, itching to count another knockout among his burgeoning total, and add to his reputation as the fighting pride of Newburgh, N.Y. Wiggins will face the toughest test of his career as he takes on former top ten world-rated junior welterweight contender and always upset minded Francisco “El Gato” Figueroa (20-7) of the Bronx.

Fighting out of Kazakhstan and now residing in Brooklyn, Bakhtiyar Eubov (6-0, 6 KOs) looks to impress his new hometown fans with another knockout performance. The amateur standout is now living and training out of Marine Park, and each of his six wins have come via stoppage.

Fighting out of Jamaica, Queens, Giorgi Gelashvili, a junior welterweight making his professional debut, is a former three-time Georgian national champion looking forward to impressing at the famed summertime hot-spot, with several more fighters and matchups to be added to the Aug. 25 card at the beach.

LOS ANGELES (July 14, 2015) – Mexican boxing stars Leo “El Terremoto” Santa Cruz (30-0-1, 17 KOs) and Abner Mares (29-1-1, 15 KOs) met today at Plaza Mexico to officially announced their Saturday, August 29 Premier Boxing Champions on ESPNshowdown taking place at STAPLES Center.

 

The fighters hosted an open-to-the-public press conference and fan rally to discuss their upcoming bout with media members and met with fans to sign autographs and take pictures.

 

Hundreds of fans attended the event at Plaza Mexico in Linwood and the fighters stayed to sign autographs for over two hours afterwards.

 

Here’s what the two fighters and their trainers had to say:

 

LEO SANTA CRUZ

 

“I want to thank all of the fans who are here and I appreciate the support. We always train 100 percent like we’re fighting for a championship.

Eleider Alvarez and Oscar Rivas also in action

MONTRÉAL (July 14, 2015) – Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM), in association with InterBox, is happy to announce the return to the ring of former IBF world super middleweight champion Lucian Bute, August 15 at Bell Centre, as part of Premier Boxing Champions series, airing live on NBC Sports. His opponent will be European super middleweight champion, Andrea Di Luisa, of Italy.

“I’m ready and looking forward to being back in the ring. I have not lost my passion and I train six days a week, twice a day,” said Bute (31-2, 24 KOs), who will be in his first fight since meeting Jean Pascal in front of a sellout crowd, January 18, 2014 at Bell Centre.

In his last bout, Di Luisa (17-2, 13 KOs) defeated his compatriot, Roberto Cocco, by 11th round technical knockout to capture the EBU-EU Europe title. Di Luisa has won his last four fights.

“I’m very happy about this opportunity,” Di Luisa commented. “I know Bute because I fought him in the amateurs. He is very good and I respect him. But I don’t fear him.”

Serious test for Alvarez

In addition to Lucian Bute, fans will see unbeaten Colombian Olympians Eleider Alvarez and Oscar Rivas, in action. They will both face the biggest challenge of their young career.

Alvarez (17-0, 10 KOs) will face an undefeated, WBO #6 rated Paraguayan-born slugger Isidro “El Guerrero” Prieto (24-0-3, 20 KOs). The Argentina-based boxer is trained by none other than the mentor and first coach of former world championSergio Martinez, Raul Paniagua.

“Prieto is a very serious opponent, undefeated and world-ranked, ” head trainer Marc Ramsey analyzed. “He beat everyone in South America, often by KO. He has a strong right hand, in addition to being young and hungry. He will try to use Eleider as a stepping stone to the big leagues.”

Rivas (17-0, 12 KOs) will lace his gloves against an opponent yet to be determined.

Alvarez and Rivas have both been impressive in their last outing this past June in the United States. They respectively knocked out Anatoliy Dudchenko and Jason Pettaway.

Other fighters on the card

In addition to the three aforementioned featured fights, five other bouts will be presented.

Russian super bantamweight Vislan Dalkhaev (2-0, 0 KOs), Romanian heavyweightBogdan Dinu (12-0, 8 KOs), Montreal super lightweight Yves Ulysse (8-0, 5 KOs), Sorel-Tracy super lightweight David Theroux (6-1, 4 KOs) and Laval light heavyweight Erik Bazinyan (8-0, 5 KOs) are all scheduled to be in action.

Dalkhaev, a friend of fellow boxer Artur Beterbiev, will attempt to add a third win in the pro ranks. In his last outing, the Chechen-born pugilist defeated Frenchman Adel Hadjouis by unanimous decision on April 4, in Quebec City.

Dinu, a compatriot of Bute, will fight for the first time in 2015. His last encounter occurred December 6, 2014, when he stopped Frenchman Mickael Vieira in the first round.

Ulysse, a former member of the Canadian National Amateur Boxing Team, recorded the easiest win of his career on June 20 at Bell Centre, when Frenchman Renald Garrido was disqualified before the start of the confrontation. This time, though, Ulysse is likely to have a rival who really wants to fight.

Theroux, the pride of Sorel-Tracy, fought in a fierce battle against former Spanish champion Ignacio Mendoza, on June 17 in Sorel-Tracy. Even if the result was not the one hoped for, the 21-year-old boxer in no quitter and he wants to redeem himself in front of his Montreal fans.

As for Armenian-born Bazinyan, he is trained and managed by the Grant brothers. The 20-year-old fighter will jump into the ring for the second time in 2015. On March 27 at Olympia Theatre, he stopped Frenchman Morgan Le Gal in the fifth round.

MONTREAL (July 14, 2015) – Former world champion Lucian Bute (31-2, 24 KOs) returns to the ring to face Italy’s Andrea Di Luisa (17-2, 13 KOs) in a 10-round super middleweight showdown on Premier Boxing Champions on NBCSN on Saturday, August 15 from the Bell Centre in Montreal with televised coverage beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

 

Another televised bout will pit a pair of undefeated light heavyweights against each other as 2008 Colombian Olympian Eleider Alvarez (17-0, 10 KOs) takes on Paraguayan knockout artist Isidro Ranoni Prieto (24-0-3, 20 KOs) in a 12-round battle. Additionally, 2008 Colombian Olympian Oscar Rivas (17-0, 12 KOs) will compete on the card.

After an accomplished amateur career representing his native Romania, Bute moved to Montreal, Quebec, Canada and began his pro career in 2003 with 30 straight victories. Among those victories, the 35-year-old won a super middleweight world title over Alejandro Berrio. Bute owns victories over Sakio Bika, William Joppy, Edison Miranda and Jesse Brinkley and will be returning to the ring for the first time since Jan. 2014 on August 15.

 

A professional since 2008, Di Luisa will be making his North American debut on August 15when he travels to Canada to challenge Bute. The 33-year-old racked up 12 wins to start his career including victories over previously unbeaten fighters Alessio Rondelli and Giuseppe Brischetto. Fighting out of Lazio, he enters this fight on a four-fight win streak, including his last two by knockout.

 

A 2008 Colombian Olympian fighting out of Montreal, Alvarez defeated Anatoliy Dudchenko by second round knockout on June 12. That fight marked the pro debut for the 31-year-old, after recording 15 victories in Canada and one in Monaco. The owner of victories over and Edison Miranda, Alexander Johnson and Ryno Liebenber, he looks to keep his perfect record intact on August 15. .

 

Born in Paraguay but making his home in Buenoas Aires, Argentina, Prieto has never lost as a pro and has won his last eight fights heading into August 15. The 29-year-old will be making his North American debut and fighting as a pro outside of South America for the first time. The heavy-fisted fighter has recorded three straight knockouts entering this fight.

 

Another 2008 Colombian Olympian, Rivas has also made his home in Montreal since turning pro. The exciting 28-year-old rides an impressive six-fight knockout streak into this fight and he hopes to build on the success he had in his U.S. debut, a first round knockout over Jason Pettaway in June 2015.

Making his first start in El Paso, the 34-year-old Arreola is anxious to fight in front of the passionate West Texas boxing fans. On the March 13 PBC card he was victorious against Curtis Harper in an outstanding slugfest that featured excellent two-way action throughout. A native of Riverside, Calif., Arreola has challenged the top heavyweights over the last decade and is regarded as one of the most feared punchers in the division.  

 

Born in Cameroon but fighting out of New Orleans, the 35-year-old hard-hitting Kassi will be looking to upset Arreola and make an impact on a huge stage. Kassi has delivered knockouts in five of his last eight fights and will make his first start of 2015 on July 18.

 

Fighting in his home state and representing San Antonio, Barrioslooks for his third knockout victory of 2015 on July 18. The 20-year-old hopes to build on his momentum and continue to grow his fan base in his home state when he takes on the 25-year-old Esquivel from Mexico.

 

An undefeated prospect representing Houston, Karl had an excellent amateur career that ended with him ranked third in the nation in the 141-pound division. The 23-year-old has already won twice in 2015 and most recently defeated Alfred Hall on May 9. He faces the 32-year-old Californian Flores.

 

Representing New South Wales, Austraila, Lovettturned pro in 2010 and has yet to drop a fight in his first 12 bouts. The 30-year-old takes on the 32-year-old Guerrero from Ecuador.
