SPRINGFIELD, מאַסע. (יולי 10, 2025) - רעכט איצט, unbeaten junior middleweight Anthony “ATV” Velazquez (19-0-1, 14 קאָס) may be boxing’s best kept secret, but the plan is for him to make a major jump from prospect to title challenger in 2026.

Fighting out of Springfield, מאַססאַטשוסעטץ, the 29-year-old Valezquez has flown under the radar, never fighting a world rated opponent or showcased on a marquee event. His manager, Gunther Fishgold, has set the stage for a breakout 2026 for his talented Puerto Rican-American fighter.

The plan calls for Velazquez, who is a promotional free agent, to fight three times, starting July 19^טה ביי מאָהעגאַן זון, plus two more times in 2025 or next January, to position him to be world rated and fight on larger stages by the first quarter of 2026.

Team Velazquez hasn’t targeted any fighter in particular, but a natural foe is fellow New Englander, Chordale “The Gift” Booker (23-2, 11 קאָס), of Stamford, קאָננעקטיקוט. Booker recently had his first world title shot, losing his challenge to unified (וובק & וובאָ) Super Welterweight World ChampionSebastian Fundora (21-1-1, 14 קאָס) by way of a stoppage in round 4. “I know Chatwood likes to box off his back foot and he’s tough,” Velazquez said, “but he has nothing I’m concerned with. I’m going to break him down and get him out of there. I’m comfortable in the ring. My defense and confidence have improved. And I enjoy fighting at Mohegan Sun because of its history in boxing and how close it is to Springfield. It’s like my second home (this will be his third fight there)."

On a mission to reclaim a world title, Harrison is set to step back into the ring for the first time since his WBO Interim Super Welterweight showdown against Tim Tszyu in 2023. A force in the super welterweight division, Harrison defeated Jermell Charlo in 2018 to become the WBC Super Welterweight Champion, giving Charlo his first defeat. Perkins and Andreozzi are throwback fighters who could fight in a proverbial phone booth, providing non-stop action in an entertaining, competitive encounter for a regional title.

A gravedigger from nearby Lynn (מאַ), the 32-year-old Perkins was a solid hockey player at St. Mary’s High School in Lynn, who also had another intensive labor job working on a lobster boat. He is a strong, aggressive puncher who has successfully transitioned from the super middleweight division to light heavyweight.

Andreozzi, of Swansea (מאַ), who is a former Massachusetts Middleweight Champion, has overcome a serious injury to become a title challenger. He broke his lower leg that resulted in 2 major surgeries that kept him sidelined for a full year. Andreozzi is back, hungry and ready for Perkins.

“Sometimes, ווי אַ פאַרשפּרייטער, you must get creative selling a fight, but this isn’t one of those,” Traietti added. “This fight sells itself. James and Tony are two guys who refuse to take a step backwards, for better or worse, coming forward and bringing non-stop pressure. Getting both guys to agree to fight was one of the easiest things I have done all year. They were chomping at the bit. This fight is a can’t miss regional main event.”

“I trusted the process,” Ramirez explained. “It was emotional when my original opponent pulled out of the fight so late and I didn’t know if I’d be fighting. I’m happy I got the fight, even if I had to open the show, because I’ve learned to embrace the opportunity. I trained to fight a 5’ 2”, righty and fought a southpaw. I was comfortable, regardless, because I prepare at camp for anything that may happen. I wanted the fight and gave him (Morales) two passes on weight. He was coming in heavy; אַזוי, we agreed to fight at a 120-pound catchweight. Before he stepped on the scale, he said he weighed 121.6. I didn’t want him to be fined for coming in overweight because he was doing me a favor by taking the fight. I respect him for taking the fight on late notice and we changed the contract to 121.6. Nothing changed for me other than the opponent and opening the preliminaries. Time is money, and I wanted everything I had done to count like camp (expenses), resources I used, mileage on my body. Everything happens for a reason. There are six months left in 2025, and my goal is to have two more fights.”

I have no respect for ‘Pitbull’ Cruz. He doesn’t intimidate me and he’s an ordinary fighter. He’s a human and he gets tired too. I stayed true to myself when I told him I’m coming for war.”

The biggest change for Fierro since the first showdown is the addition of famed trainer Robert Garcia, who has led his training camp and will do the same for his corner on July 19. By joining forces with Garcia, Fierro believes he’s unlocked a better version of himself that he’ll display in the rematch.

“It’s been a tough camp,” said Fierro. “I’ve never trained with this much intensity before. Robert Garcia and the whole team has been excellent. We’ve made changes to my sparring sessions and I believe we’re going to deliver a great result.

“I’ve gone through changes physically, mentally and nutritionally. It’s going to make me formidable. I’m in the best shape of my life and my diet is on point. I’m not worried about making weight and that’s how an elite fighter should come into a fight.”

The Tijuana-native’s first fight against Cruz was a tale of two halves, as Cruz controlled the early rounds before Fierro appeared to turn the tide, out landing his opponent 132 צו 106 across the final five frames. While he believes he’ll be even better on July 19, Fierro is confident that he proved his elite status in the first fight, even if Cruz doesn’t.

“I’ve worked on myself and correcting the mistakes I made in the first fight that would have changed the outcome,” said Fierro. “Robert Garcia is very experienced and I watched the fight with him to work on what I need to do to win this time.

“I didn’t keep my hands up 100% of the time like I needed to. That was the main mistake at the time. ‘Pitbull’ underestimated me – and still does- but I already showed him that I’m not middling fighter. I proved I’m elite and now I’m working twice as hard.”

In addition to showing Cruz his level, Fierro believes that he took advantage of the big stage in February on the undercard of David Benavidez vs. David Morrell Jr. to show the Mexican people that he was a true contender. With that extra motivation, he’s promised to show that he will be the next big star to take off from the boxing-rich country.

“At the beginning of the fight, people looked at me like I was a nobody,” said Fierro. “But by the halfway point, I felt a shift, and people were already seeing me as a big-time fighter. I felt like Rocky in Russia! I proved that I’m not just a talker. I’m a true Mexican…We’re two Mexicans with pride on the line and looking to show who the next great Mexican boxing star will be. I’m fighting to bring honor to my country.”

Having already delivered a fight that’s garnering early Fight of the Year consideration, Fierro has promised to deliver even more action the second time around, and perhaps bring back memories of Fierro’s personal favorite all-Mexican rematch Marco Antonio Barrera vs. Erik Morales II.

“You’re going to see a different ‘Tashiro’ and it’s going to be an even better war than the first one,” said Fierro. “The fans will be on their feet from the very first round. I will beat ‘Pitbull’ – no matter what. He better prepare well and I think he will, because deep down he knows what he’s up against.”

In his most recent fight last November in Las Vegas, the 24-year-old Stevens lost a 12-round split decision to Bektemir Melikuziev (14-1, 10 קאָס). Stevens’ most impressive performance to date was an 8-round stoppage of then 14-0 Sean Hemphill in 2023.

Yoseline Perez (54קג), Alyssa Mendoza (57קג) Nab Gold Medals

USTI NAD LABEM, טשעכיי (יוני 15, 2025) -Team USA’s Elite High Performance roster picked up nine medals to close out the World Boxing Challenge Grand Prix Usti Nad Labem this past Saturday. Yoseline Perez (women’s 54 קג) and Alyssa Mendoza (women’s 57 קג) led the way for the USA with gold medals in their respective weight classes, marking the first international gold medals of 2025.

Perez got things started this morning for the Red, White and Blue, earning a 4-1 victory over England’s Charley Davidson. The Houston, Texas native has been notable this year with top two finishes in each of her international competitions in 2025. At the World Boxing Challenge 2025, Perez secured two unanimous decision victories in three appearances to close an incredible week in the Czech Republic. This gold medal marks the first of Perez’s Elite international career for USA Boxing.

Mendoza secured her first medal of the calendar year while in Usti Nad Labem, and she did so in a dominant fashion. She earned two unanimous decisions and one 4-1 split decision victory in her three bouts on the week. One of her unanimous decisions came in Saturday’s championship bout over Mongolia’s Michidmaa Erdenedalai, a Paris 2024 אָלימפּיאַן.

Three other Team USA boxers also competed on Saturday, יוני 14, each of whom claimed silver medals at the 2025 World Boxing Challenge Grand Prix Usti Nad Labem. Marie Angelis Rosendo (women’s 70 קג) and Malachi Georges (men’s 90 קג) earned the first international medals of their careers. Kelvin Watts (men’s 90+ קג) secured his first silver medal of 2025, marking his second career international medal.

The Stars and Stripes’ nine medals conclude the 2025 World Boxing Challenge Grand Prix Usti Nad Labem, and the team will now travel to Astana, קאַזאַקסטאַן, for the second World Boxing Cup of 2025. Team USA will be represented by 12 באָקסערס, six male and six female, at the World Boxing Cup: Astana 2025. The event will take place from June 30 to July 7.

USA Boxing is led by head coach Billy Walsh (קאָלאָראַדאָ ספּרינגס, Colo.) and assisted by National Resident Coach Timothy Nolan (Rochester, נ.י.), Nicole Burleson (Bethany, אָקלאַ.), and Eric Zimmerman (אלעקסאנדריע, וואַ.).
