SANTA FE, NM (Septiembre 27, 2016) – De Cuba Yordenis Ugas (17-3, 8 KOs) defeated his second straight unbeaten welterweight Martes night as he stopped Bryant Perrella(14-1, 13 KOs) in the fourth round on Liga de Campeones de Boxeo MARTES TOE-TO-TOE en FS1 y BOXEO DE CAMPEONES on FOX Deportesin the main event from Buffalo Thunder Resort and Casino in Santa Fe, Nuevo México.
Ugas defeated previously unbeaten Jamal James in August and dedicated this fight to his friend and fellow Cuban, Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez, who tragically passed away Domingomorning in Miami. Ugas was spectacular from the outset as his first overhand right of the night connected with Perrella and sent him to the canvas.
The right hand was there early and all night long,” Said Ugas. “I was able to land it from the beginning. Then I went to the body. Before I left my corner to start the fight, I said a prayer for Jose, and for sure that was my motivation. I felt his spirit throughout the fight.
The taller Perrella attempted to control the fight with his jab and looked to land big left hands from the southpaw stance. Ugas was patient throughout the fight and kept his defense tight, never allowing Perrella to break through.
At the end of the third round Ugas landed another big right hand that pushed Perrella into the ropes and forced him into survival mode until the round ended. Perrella tried to get his attack going in the fourth round but Ugas was patiently waiting to deliver powerful counters with the right hand.
Another punishing right hand in the middle of the round sent Perrella hard to the mat and clearly dazed when he rose to his feet. Ugas sensed his moment and attacked Perrella, eventually stalking him into the corner. A final flurry from Ugas forced referee Rocky Burke to halt the bout 2:20 en la ronda.
This shows that I’ve put all my losses behind me,” Said Ugas. “It doesn’t matter who I fight next. I’m ready for anyone in the division.
El co-sierra principal evento Ryan “Vaquero” Karl (13-0, 9 KOs) earn a stoppage victory over Jose Quezada (11-1, 6 KOs) after four rounds of action in the super lightweight showdown. The fight was stopped by the ringside doctor after the end of the fourth round.
Karl established his power advantage early on as the two fighters went toe-to-toe but it was Karl who knocked Quezada to the canvas with a stunning right uppercut and a straight right hand that sent his opponent tumbling to the canvas.
Quezada looked to box against Karl and had his best moments in the third round when he began to land his left hook and throw more combinations. Despite taking a few good shots, Karl came out determined in round four and began landing his right hand at will.
The last minute of the round saw the Houston-based fighter landed a series of right hands that eventually began to swell the left eye of Quezada and sent him to the floor for the second time in the fight as the round ended. Quezada was able to get to his feet and return to his corner, but the ringside doctor had seen enough and called a halt to the bout.
The opening televised bout saw Phoenix’s Cesar Alan Valenzuela (13-4-1, 4 KOs) earn a split decision over previously once-beaten Dennis Galarza (13-2, 8 KOs) in their eight round super featherweight attraction.
From the opening bell both men were determined to establish their offense and they both had bright moments in the round. Galarza landed several right hands early but as the fight wore on, Valenzuela got into his offense and was able to keep Galarza going backwards.
Valenzuela also appeared to be the fresher fighter in the later rounds and he ended the bout with a 398-345 advantage in punches thrown and 136-93 en golpes aterrizados.
Valenzuela’s strongest round came in the final frame when he stunned Galarza with just over a minute left in the round, forcing his opponent to hold on to survive the eight-rounder. The final judges scores were 77-75 for Galarza and 77-75 twice for Valenzuela.

The bout is scheduled for ten rounds and is the main event of Premier Boxing Champions’ “Toe to Toe Tuesday” series on Fox Sports 1.
Ugas, who captured a bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics for his native Cuba, es 16-3 con 7 wins by knockout as a professional. En Agosto 12, Ugas soundly defeated previously unbeaten Jamal James over ten rounds. The well-schooled Cuban has never been stopped and two of his defeats came via split decision.
To prepare for the challenge, Perrella’s been training with world class fighters from all over the world. The Fort Myers native has put in additional time in all aspects of his training from bag work to cardio, strength training and sparring. By pushing himself to the limits in his training camp, Perrella’s confident the hard work will help him accomplish exactly what he’s looking for on fight night.
"First and foremost I owe a special thanks to my great sponsor Dioxyme for helping make this training camp a great success so far,” said the 27-year-old, que es 14-0 con 13 wins via KO. “I’ve said all along that I’m planning to knock him out. He’s never faced anybody with power like mine or a welterweight of my stature that can box, bang and throw the right punches at the right time. He’s in for a real surprise on the 27º because I’m going to end his night early and show everybody in the welterweight division that I’m a force to be reckoned with!"

Perrella-Ugas set for September 27

Fort Myers, Florida (Agosto 25, 2016) – Hard-hitting welterweight standout Bryant “Goodfella” Perrella will challenge Cuban contender Yordenis Ugas over ten roundsMartes, Septiembre 27.

The bout will air on Fox Sports 1 as part of Premier Boxing Champions’ “Toe-to-Toe Martes” series.

Perrella and Ugas were slated to meet August 12 but the bout was surprisingly scrapped by the athletic commission just days before the opening bell.

The fighting pride of Fort Myers, Florida, Perrella burst onto the national scene with a second round knockout of David Grayton Junio 2 en ESPN. The 27-year-old has an excellent 14-0 registro con 13 victories coming by knockout. A 6’0 southpaw, Perrella’s displayed excellent power in both hands and stopped five of his last six foes within two rounds.

Born and raised in Cuba but fighting out of Miami, Florida, Ugas garnered international attention as an amateur by capturing a bronze medal in the 2008 Juegos Olímpicos. “I’m really fired up for this because of the unfair circumstances causing the cancellation for the August 12 fecha,” said Perrella. “Now that we’ve got everything rescheduled, my frustrations will be taken out on Ugas. I’m looking forward to facing him and showing the world that I’m a serious player in the welterweight division!"

Team Perrella Reflects on Commission Cancelling Ugas Fight

Fort Myers, Florida (Agosto 10, 2016) – With his grueling training camp completed, undefeated welterweight rising star Bryant “Goodfella” Perrella was ready to fly to Verona, NY and enter the ring Viernes evening for a nationally televised fight against 2008 Olympic Bronze Medalist Yordenis Ugas.
Desafortunadamente, his fight with Ugas was unjustifiably cancelled by the Oneida Indian Athletic Commission.
During Perrella’s Junio 4 second round knockout of David Grayton, he suffered a thumb injury. While receiving a standard post fight visit from Quebec Athletic Commission officials, they took note of the injury. When the Ugas fight was scheduled, Quebec’s notes on Perrella were sent to the Oneida Commission. In order to face Ugas, Perrella was told that he must receive approval from a doctor. The 27-year-old twice visited a hand specialist, receiving formal written clearance to fight August 12. Team Perrella submitted the paperwork to the Oneida Commission and were prepared to put on a show Viernes noche. Asombrosamente, the commission refused to license him even with formal clearance.
"I’ve been involved in combat sports most of my adult life and thought I’d seen it all but this is without question a first,” said Perrella’s trainer Michael Nowling. “Bryant had a really good camp and we were both confident that this performance would get him to the next level but now we’ve got to wait for another fight date. This is extremely unfair because Bryant had medical clearance like they had requested but the commission inexplicably decided to cancel the bout on a few days notice. I’m looking forward to getting out next date and even with this mishap I’m still a believer that everything happens for a reason.”
Perrella, who was looking to go 15-0 and become the first man to stop the crafty Ugas, is disappointed but took the high road.
"Estaba listo para ir. I was approved to fight by a hand specialist but the commission’s doctor had the ultimate decision and decided otherwise. We feel that this would’ve been my most spectacular performance to date but I’m no stranger to obstacles being put in my path. It develops character. I believe everything happens for a reason and God has other plans for me. This only added fuel to the fire. A beast just got released and cannot be tamed. I’ll be bigger, badder and better than ever when I get back in that ring!"
Team Perrella is expecting their next fight date to be announced shortly.

I have seen Jordan Shimmell in the ring and I feel like this is a good fight for me,” dijo Gassiev. “I’m looking forward to getting back in the ring after the mistake I made last fight. I’m going to be real sharp on May 17 and I will not disappoint.
I’m excited to get back in the ring and fight in another televised bout,” said Shimmell. “I know I’m in there with a tough, fuerte oponente, but with my skills and ability it shouldn’t be a problem. As long as I fight smart and do the things I’ve been training to do, I will come out with the win.
This is a big opportunity for me in a competitive televised bout,” said Nofire. “This is a chance for me to move past being a regional fighter. I’m preparing not just to win but to look spectacular. My opponent has done well enough as a pro but he’s never been able to take the next step. El entrenamiento va muy bien. I’m ready to ramp it up for the final six week push to fight time.
I usually take fights on short notice so I feel very lucky to get this fight,” Said Abell. “I don’t know much about my opponent but I’m taking him seriously and training my hardest. I’ve been sparring with Anthony Joshua and Luis Ortiz so I know I’m going to be at my best on May 17.
