FIRST NEF WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP WILL BE AWARDED ON NOVEMBER 3RD

PRESSEMEDDELELSE: Portland, Maine (August 23, 2017) - New England Fights (NEF) will make its long-awaited debut in Portland on Fredag, November 3, 2017 at Aura with “NEF 31: The Old Port.” Tidligere i dag, the fight promotion announced the addition of an amateur mixed-martial-arts title bout to the card. If it is a striking match Walker is looking for, she will indeed find it in Hilarie Rose. Rose, who trains at USMMA in Bellingham, Massachusetts, burst onto the local fight scene in late 2014 with an ultra-brutal switch kick knockout of Tiffany McCoy (2-1). She has won her last two fights, and Rose is determined to end Walker’s streak to become the first-ever NEF women’s champion.

“I’m looking forward to fighting Alex for NEF’s first woman’s strawweight championship,” said Rose. “Alex has won her last few fights and looks like she’s got quick arm locks. Lewiston, Maine (Marts 17, 2017) – New England Fights (NEF) presents its next mixed-martial-arts event “NEF 28: INVINCIBLE” på lørdag, April 29, 2017 på Androscoggin Bank Colisee i Lewiston, Maine. Tidligere i dag, the fight promotion announced the addition of an amateur women’s title fight to the card. Jessica “The Black Widow” Borga (5-2) returns to take on “Scary” Kerri Kenneson (4-1) to crown a new NEF MMA Amateur Women’s Bantamweight Champion.

 

The bout is historic in that it will not only determine the first NEF women’s champion, but the fight will represent the first female MMA title matchup ever held on Maine soil.

 

“Our women’s division has grown so much in the past couple of years,” sagde NEF medejer og initiativtager Nick DiSalvo. “It was time to add a title picture to the mix. This is the first of what we hope to be many female title fights between superior athletes in the NEF cage.”

 

Jessica Borga, a Florida resident, will be making her third appearance in the NEF cage in less than a year. A native of Bow, New Hampshire, Kerri Kenneson trains with Team Link in Hooksett. She has won her last four in a row, including a victory over NEF veteran Kylie O’Hearn (1-2) sidste sommer. Kenneson’s sole loss came in her MMA debut two years ago this April. Coming off a win on a fight card last month in New York State, Kenneson is confident that she will defeat Borga and claim the NEF bantamweight title at “NEF 28.”

“Injuries have plagued me and my team for the last two years, but I am healthy now, so watch out,” exclaimed Walker. “I am going on a run and nothing will stop me!”

 

Losing her opponent so close to the event was definitely a disappointment for Baker and her many fans. Training in the martial arts from an early age, the eighteen-year-old had waited years to compete in the MMA cage. Baker is a member of Young’s MMA in Bangor, Maine. She made her amateur boxing debut last year.

 

“I was really bummed when Alex withdrew from our fight,” said Baker. “You make the sacrifices it takes to train and diet, not to mention the disappointment of those who purchased tickets. But I knew, and our fans knew, Alex is a warrior and would not back out unless something was wrong. I’m looking forward to finally meeting her in the cage on April 29th.”

YOUNG FEMALE ATHLETES LOOK TO MAKE THEIR MARK AT NEF 27

Lewiston, Maine (December 14, 2016) -New England Fights (NEF) returns to the Androscoggin Bank Colisee on Februar 11, 2017 with its next mixed-martial-arts event, “NEF 27: RESURGENCE.” Tidligere i dag, the fight promotion announced the addition of an amateur women’s bout to the card. Alex Walker (2-1) makes her return to Lewiston to take on the debuting Katie Baker (0-0) in a strawweight matchup.

 

24-year-old Alex Walker has appeared twice previously in the NEF cage. Walker debuted in the spring of 2015 på “NEF 17” against Randi Beth Boyington (1-3). She returned earlier this year to defeat Nicole Burgess (0-1) with a third-round armbar. This past summer, she captured her first regional title on a fight card in Vermont. Walker is a member of Team Kaze based in Lancaster, New Hampshire.

Katie Baker, an 18-year-old from Gardiner, Maine, might be new to the NEF cage, but she is well-known within martial arts circles in the Pine Tree State. Baker began training in combat sports at the age of five. She won the Isshinryu World Karate Championship in 2009 og 2013, and has been a practitioner of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for seven years, regularly taking part in local tournaments. Lewiston, Maine (August 18, 2016) - OnSeptember 10, 2016 New England Fights (NEF) returns to Lewiston with its next event, “NEF 25: HEROES & VILLAINS.” Just 48-hours following the announcement of a professional women’s mixed-martial-arts (MMA) bout between Sarah “SwitchKick” Klik (0-1) and Valerie “Valociraptor” Aspaas (0-0), the promotion confirmed a second women’s fight for the card. In the amateur bantamweight division, Rachael Joyce (1-0) vil tage på Jessica “The Black Widow” Borga (2-1).

 

Rachael Joyce is a member of Team Irish and Gracie Barra Bangor based in Brewer, Maine. She made her amateur MMA debut in October 2015 against Christine Brothwell (0-2). Joyce won the fight via knockout in the second round. She has since had difficulty finding opponents until Borga stepped up to take the bout at “NEF 25.” Joyce currently holds a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ).

 

“This fight has been a long time coming for me, and NEF has finally made it happen,” said Joyce. “I am a completely different fighter than I was a year ago, and I’m ready to show everyone on September 10th in the NEF cage against a committed opponent. If someone is willing to travel from Florida for an amateur fight she is ready for a brawl. That’s my kind of fight.”

 

Like Joyce, Jessica Borga won her first amateur MMA fight by knockout. It took her a mere 14-seconds to put Victoria McCollum (0-1) away in the summer of 2015. Borga followed up that performance with another first-round finish two months later. She trains out of Champions MMA in Lakeland, Florida where, also like Joyce, she is a BJJ blue belt.

 

“I’m always looking to forward to fighting worthy opponents,” said Borga when reached for comment.

PåSeptember 10, 2016 when NEF returns to Lewiston with its next event, “NEF 25: HEROES & VILLAINS,” the professional portion of the MMA card will feature a women’s flyweight bout between Sarah “SwitchKick” Klik (0-1) og Valerie “Valociraptor” Aspaas (0-0). Click and Aspaas will look to continue the recent tradition of women’s fights taking “Fight of the Night” honors at NEF events. Judging from the extensive martial arts backgrounds of both competitors, the fight could very well do just that.

 

Sarah Click made her initial foray into the martial arts world at just eight-years-old when she began training in Taekwondo. Now a sergeant in the United States Army, Click began competing in MMA in 2014 after returning from a tour of Afghanistan. Over the course of her amateur career, Click captured several regional titles throughout New England and New York. She made her professional debut for national promotion Invicta last spring. Click is a member of Team Juniko of Hyannis, Massachusetts.

 

“I’m really excited for the opportunity to fight at one of New England’s best promotions,” said Click of NEF. “They are doing big things for fighters, and they are coming off one of their best shows to date. Valerie has fought some of the best 125 talent, going the distance with KGB and Kaitlyn Chookagain. I’m going to do what I do best and bring a war that you won’t want to miss!”

 

Like her opponent, Valerie Aspaas got her start in martial arts at a young age, training in Isshin-Ryu Karate. She currently holds a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). I 2014, Aspaas won the Buffalo, New York version of the Golden Gloves. She made her NEF debut at “NEF IX” i Biddeford, Maine, defeating Maria Rios (2-3) via enstemmig afgørelse. The fight was a brutal bloodbath that had the capacity crowd on the edge of its collective seat for the duration. Aspaas will enter the professional ranks at “NEF 25.”

 

“My professional debut has been a long time coming, and I am honored to have the opportunity to do it under NEF,” said Aspaas when reached for comment. “I fought for them a few years back, and I believe that the promotion and the people of Maine remember the bloody, exciting battle I fought against Maria Rios. They should expect to see more of the same ferocity and grit from a more evolved version of the Valociraptor when I step back into the cage on September 10th.”
