WBO News: Another Successful Boxing Officials’ Seminar Was Held In Chicago

The World Boxing Organization and the Illinois State Athletic Commission concluded a successful training seminar for boxing officials at the Garfield Park – Golden Dome, Chicago, Illinois.

 

 

 

This event covered different topics, such as refereeing, judging, rules, and ethics; the seminar followed an interactive format with the purpose of giving ring officials the necessary knowledge, confidence and experience to execute good judgement of a boxing match.

 

 

 

John Duggan, First Vice-President of the WBO, stated that some of the objectives of these events are to “improve the quality of officiating” and he highlighted the importance of cross training ring officials in order to ensure the correct decisions are made during a boxing match, “correct officiating is important to ensure the right and deserving winner is named in a fight”.

 

 

 

Tymczasem, referee Celestino Ruiz and former referee Gino Rodriguez conducted the referees’ training and stressed out the importance of taking control from the moment instructions are given in the locker room; the necessity of having proper knowledge of the rules and being correctly positioned during a fight.

 

 

 

Ethics and professionalism were also covered, as fundamental aspects in the development of a career as a boxing official.

 

 

 

Videos were used to exemplify, analyze and break down different decisions during a boxing match, this is important to help participants understand some of the scenarios they may have to face, it offers them the possibility to clarify doubts while at the same time put their knowledge to test.

 

 

 

The WBO values these opportunities to contribute with the training of boxing officials and help them attain mastery of their skills.

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. / ORANGE, Kalifornia. (Czerwiec 26, 2018) – Unbeaten featherweight standout Ruben Villa (11-0, 4 KO) of Salinas, Calif stars in the main event this Saturday when he takes on Mexico’s Ricardo Lopez (7-2-2, 6 KO) in an 8-round fight that will mark his third start of the year.

The World Boxing Organization (WBO) will oversee four major fights this week around the world, including a world championship bout.

 

 

 

Starting on Thursday, Czerwiec 14 at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japonia, seventh ranked Hiroaki Teshigawara (16-2-2, 9 KO), Tokio, will defend his WBO Asia-Pacific Bantamweight title against the two-time world title challenger Teiru Kinoshita (26-2-1, 9 KO), of Kobe.

 

 

 

In the same card, 12th ranked Ryuichi Funai (29-7, 20 KO), z Tokio, will face former world champion Warlito Parrenas (26-7-1, 23 KO), from Philippines, for the vacant WBO Asia-Pacific Jr. Bantamweight belt. Both fights are scheduled for 12 round as part of a event promoted by Dangan Boxing.

 

 

 

Also on Thursday, but in Indio, Kalifornia, Filipino Mercedito Gesta (31-2-2, 17 KO) will battle Robert Manzanarez (36-1, 29 KO), of Arizona, for the vacant WBO NABO Lightweight title, w 10 round clash.

The World Boxing Organization (WBO) announced the officials for this Saturday, Czerwiec 16, clash between WBO Jr. Flyweight Champion, Angel ‘Tito’ Acosta, z Puerto Rico, and ranked No. 10 by this sanctioning body Carlos ‘Chocorroncito’ Buitrago, from Nicaragua, w zaplanowane 12 rounds bout.

 

 

 

The world title match will take place at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico in San Juan as the main event of a boxing evening presented by the Cotto Promotions. The Puerto Rican Luis Pabón will be the referee of the clash. Pabón is a veteran of over 400 professional boxing fights, Łącznie 168 world titles bouts.

 

 

 

The Coliseo de Puerto Rico, was the scene of Miguel Cotto’s first world championship, when the today’s promoter was crowned WBO Jr. Welterwweight Champion on September 11, 2004 after defeating Kelson Pinto, Brazylii, by technical knockout in the sixth round.

 

 

 

Puerto Rican Jerry Martinez of Guaynabo and from the United States, Rocky Young, of Florida, and William Lerch, of Illinois, were appointed judges for the bout. The WBO Supervisor will be WBO President of the Classifications Committee Edgardo López Sasso, Esq.

WBO News – Headline Matches For This Weekend

The World Boxing Organization (WBO) will oversee seven headline bouts around the world this weekend, two of which are for world titles.

 

 

 

Starting Friday, Czerwiec 8, w Weronie, Nowy Jork, WBO number one ranked Junior Featherweight Diego De La Hoya (20-0, 9 KO) will defend his NABO 122 lbs title against José “Cukier” Salgado (35-4-2, 28 KO) in a 10-round duel. The bout is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and will go on stage at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in the aforementioned city.

 

 

 

The fight will be televised live on ESPN3, zaczynając od 9:00 p.m. (Czas wschodni). ESPN2 will air the fights at 12:30 a.m. ET/9:30 p.m. PT. and ESPN Deportes will air the fights the following day at 9:00 p.m. I / 6:00 p.m. PT.

 

 

 

De La Hoya-Salgado will take place during the International Boxing Hall of Fame induction weekend, where “Dr. Ironfist” Vitali Klitschko, Erik “El Terrible” Moráles, and Ronald “Winky” Wright will be exalted, along with other important boxing figures such as Peter Kohl, Steve Albert, Jim Gray and Lorraine Chargin.

 

 

 

W sobotę, Czerwiec 9 w Argentynie, Facundo Galovar (10-2-1, 7 KO), of Tucumán, and Rolando Mansilla (13-5-1, 5 KO), of Entre Ríos, will face off for the vacant WBO Latino Super Middleweight belt in a scheduled 10 rundy walka. The card will take place at the Club Atlético Central Córdoba in San Miguel, as part of an event promoted by Argentina Boxing Promotions.

 

 

 

Also on Saturday, but in the Philippines, two WBO Jr. Featherweight title bouts will take place, when local pugilist Jeo “Santino” Santisima (15-2, 13 KO) faces Likit Chane (16-6, 10 KO), from Thailand, for the vacant WBO Oriental 122 lbs belt, and local Albert Pagara (29-1, 20 KO), który jest w rankingu Nie. 9 przez WBO, battles Laryea Gabriel Odoi (20-3-2, 14 KO), Ghany, for the vacant Inter-Continental Junior Featherweight title. During his reign in the Lightweight division, Flanagan successfully defended the title five times.

 

 

 

The fight will be televised by BT Sports, on Showtime Boxing’s Facebook page, as well as in Showtime Sports’ YouTube Channel and Panama Cable Onda Sports beginning at4:30 p.m. I / 1:30 p.m. PT.

 

 

 

Another WBO world title fight will be staged this Saturday in Las Vegas, Nevada. Here, welterweight campion Jeff Horn, of Australia, will face WBO Super Champion and former Lighweight and Junior Welterweight champion Terence Crawford, Omaha, Nebraska.

 

 

 

For Horn (18-0-1, 12 KO), it will be the second defense of the title he won by beating legendary WBO Super Champion, Manny Pacquiao.

 

 

 

With a victory over Horn, Crawford (32-0-0, 23 KO) would join Oscar De La Hoya (130 kg, 135 kg, 160 kg), Miguel Cotto (140 kg, 147 kg, 154 kg), Jorge Arce (108 kg, 115 kg, 122 kg) and Fernando Montiel (112 kg, 115 kg, 118 kg) as the only three divisions champions of the entity.

“I think that this being my fifth world title fight, I have experience on my side,” Buitrago added. “I’m relaxed and ready thanks to the training I’ve had in Nicaragua. I’m not sure what Tito Acosta will bring into the ring June 16. I don’t think Tito Acosta is going to learn the necessary moves and techniques in a month. He is a raw boxer who relies only on the strength of his blows. I don’t believe that he will bring anything new into the ring and if they change him, the only thing that will accomplish is confuse him. I’m always emphasising my preparation. I’m coming in smart because I’m bringing the ability to work round for round. My only objective is to bring the world championship to Nicaragua.

Australia, indyk, Japan and England to host WBO bouts

The World Boxing Organization (WBO), chaired by Francisco ‘Paco’ Valcárcel, will have seven fights in different parts of the world this upcoming weekend.

 

Sobota, Maj 19:

 

W Australii, there will be a duel of unbeatens when the popular Australian Liam Paro (13-0, 9 KO) faces Sebastian Bytyqi (11-0-1, 8 KO) of the Czech Republic for the vacant WBO Youth Jr. Welterweight title. Walkę zaplanowano na 10 rounds and it’ll take place at the Southport Sharks AFL Club in Southport.

 

“Paro and Bytyqi have the backing of world champions for this fight. Paro has been sparring with our WBO world champion Jeff Horn and in Bytyqi’s corner, he has Lukas Konecny, a former interim WBO champion and is the best fighter the Czech Republic has given so far”, said Valcárcel.

 

In Turkey, from the Spor Salonu in Trabzon, former world champion and WBO #2 Firat Arslan (47-8-2, 26 KO) will face Isaac Paa Kwesi Ankrah (14-7, 12 KO) of Ghana in a 10 round bout for the WBO Inter-Continental Jr. Heavyweight belt. The boxing movement of WBO regional titles continues, and will take place in Japan, where the WBO Asia-Pacific lightweight champion and #2 ranked Nihito Arakawa (31-6-1, 18 KO) will put his title on the line against Filipino, Rimar Metuda (12-3, 7 KO) in a bout that’ll take place in the Ota-City General Gymnasium.

 

“We are very active all around the world. We are extending our organization so that the best fighters represent the WBO. Several of the fighters who will see action this weekend are close to going for a world title. Arakawa, Catterall, Arslan, Demirezen and Keles are very well ranked.
