WBO News: Another Successful Boxing Officials’ Seminar Was Held In Chicago

The World Boxing Organization and the Illinois State Athletic Commission concluded a successful training seminar for boxing officials at the Garfield Park – Golden Dome, Σικάγο, Ιλινόις.

 

 

 

This event covered different topics, such as refereeing, judging, rules, and ethics; the seminar followed an interactive format with the purpose of giving ring officials the necessary knowledge, confidence and experience to execute good judgement of a boxing match.

 

 

 

John Duggan, First Vice-President of the WBO, stated that some of the objectives of these events are to “improve the quality of officiating” and he highlighted the importance of cross training ring officials in order to ensure the correct decisions are made during a boxing match, “correct officiating is important to ensure the right and deserving winner is named in a fight”.

 

 

 

Εν τω μεταξύ,, referee Celestino Ruiz and former referee Gino Rodriguez conducted the referees’ training and stressed out the importance of taking control from the moment instructions are given in the locker room; the necessity of having proper knowledge of the rules and being correctly positioned during a fight.

 

 

 

Ethics and professionalism were also covered, as fundamental aspects in the development of a career as a boxing official.

 

 

 

Videos were used to exemplify, analyze and break down different decisions during a boxing match, this is important to help participants understand some of the scenarios they may have to face, it offers them the possibility to clarify doubts while at the same time put their knowledge to test.

 

 

 

The WBO values these opportunities to contribute with the training of boxing officials and help them attain mastery of their skills.

The slick southpaw defends his WBO Youth title that he won in April in his hometown. Villa thoroughly outpointed Marlon Olea for his first championship as a professional.

 

 

 

“I’m anxious to get back in the ring,” said Villa, who is managed by Danny Zamora. “I like being active. I’m defending my title for the first time. I’ll have a lot of fans in attendance so I’m ready to put on a great show.”

WBO: Officials Named for Title Bout Between World Champion Ángel Acosta and Carlos Buitrago

WBO News – Headline Matches For This Weekend

Ο Παγκόσμιος Οργανισμός Πυγμαχία (WBO) will oversee seven headline bouts around the world this weekend, two of which are for world titles.

 

 

 

Starting Friday, Ιούνιος 8, σε Βερόνα, New York, WBO number one ranked Junior Featherweight Diego De La Hoya (20-0, 9 KOs) will defend his NABO 122 lbs title against José “Ζάχαρη” Salgado (35-4-2, 28 KOs) in a 10-round duel. The bout is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and will go on stage at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in the aforementioned city.

 

 

 

The fight will be televised live on ESPN3, ξεκινώντας από 9:00 μ.μ. (Ώρα Ανατολής). ESPN2 will air the fights at 12:30 π.μ.. ET/9:30 μ.μ. PT. and ESPN Deportes will air the fights the following day at 9:00 μ.μ. ΚΑΙ / 6:00 μ.μ. PT.

 

 

 

De La Hoya-Salgado will take place during the International Boxing Hall of Fame induction weekend, where “Dr. Ironfist” Vitali Klitschko, Erik “El Terrible” Moráles, and Ronald “Winky” Wright will be exalted, along with other important boxing figures such as Peter Kohl, Στηβ Άλμπερτ, Jim Gray and Lorraine Chargin.

Also on Saturday, but in the Philippines, two WBO Jr. Featherweight title bouts will take place, when local pugilist Jeo “Santino” Santisima (15-2, 13 KOs) faces Likit Chane (16-6, 10 KOs), from Thailand, for the vacant WBO Oriental 122 lbs belt, and local Albert Pagara (29-1, 20 KOs), ο οποίος κατατάσσεται αριθ. 9 από το WBO, battles Laryea Gabriel Odoi (20-3-2, 14 KOs), της Γκάνα, for the vacant Inter-Continental Junior Featherweight title. During his reign in the Lightweight division, Flanagan successfully defended the title five times.

 

 

 

The fight will be televised by BT Sports, on Showtime Boxing’s Facebook page, as well as in Showtime Sports’ YouTube Channel and Panama Cable Onda Sports beginning at4:30 μ.μ. ΚΑΙ / 1:30 μ.μ. PT.

 

 

 

Another WBO world title fight will be staged this Saturday in Las Vegas, Νεβάδα. Εδώ, welterweight campion Jeff Horn, of Australia, will face WBO Super Champion and former Lighweight and Junior Welterweight champion Terence Crawford, της Ομάχα, Νεμπράσκα.

WBO #12-rated Buitrago (30-3-1, 17 KOs) has had four unsuccessful title challenges, losing three times, along with one draw. He was stopped for the first time in his last fight this past December, by undefeated International Boxing Federation (IBF) Minimumweight World Champion Hiroto Kyoguchi (8-0), in the eighth round of their title fight in Japan.

“I think that this being my fifth world title fight, I have experience on my side,” Buitrago added. “I’m relaxed and ready thanks to the training I’ve had in Nicaragua. I’m not sure what Tito Acosta will bring into the ring June 16. I don’t think Tito Acosta is going to learn the necessary moves and techniques in a month. He is a raw boxer who relies only on the strength of his blows. I don’t believe that he will bring anything new into the ring and if they change him, the only thing that will accomplish is confuse him. I’m always emphasising my preparation. I’m coming in smart because I’m bringing the ability to work round for round. My only objective is to bring the world championship to Nicaragua.

In Australia, there will be a duel of unbeatens when the popular Australian Liam Paro (13-0, 9 KO του) faces Sebastian Bytyqi (11-0-1, 8 KO του) of the Czech Republic for the vacant WBO Youth Jr. Welterweight title.
