Team USA defeats Team Ireland, 8-4 In USA Boxing’s 2018 USA vs. Ireland Northeast Boxing Tour

BOSTON RESULTS
BOSTON (Mac 13, 2018) – Team USA defeated Team Ireland, 8-4 , last night (Isnin) on the first stop of the three-city 2018 USA vs. Ireland Northeast Boxing Tour, at Club Royale Entertainment Center in Boston’s historic theater district.
Two of the best amateur boxing squads in the country, featuring numerous 2020 Olympic hopefuls, had a major showdown to the delight of the mixed crowed of supporters of both programs.
“It was a fantastic night of boxing,” said Team USA head coach Billy Walsh, who used to guide Team Ireland’s boxing program. “The real winners were the boxing fans, American and Irish, supporting these two young teams. I was really happy with our performance as well as theirs.”
The USA vs. Ireland Northeast Boxing Tour continues Khamis ini (Laut. 15 di) the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass., and concludes Rabu, Laut. 21 at The Manchester Downtown Hotel in New Hampshire.

Eight-time Irish National champion Kierion Molloy won a split decision over American welterweight Quinton Randall, yang 2017 Elite World Championship team member.

Bernard Dunne celebrating world title anniversary
Irish Team Performance Director Bernard Dunne will celebrate the ninth anniversary of his WBA super bantamweight title-winning performance, Laut. 21, 2009, the same date as the USA-Ireland Northeaster Boxing Tour stop in Manchester.
Dunne (28-2, 15 KOs), fighting out of Dublin, fought professionally between 2001-2009. Beliau adalah 119-11 sebagai amatur, Termasuk 13 Irish titles.

USA Boxing Announces Rosters for USA vs. IRL Northeast Boxing Tour

COLORADO SPRINGS, Lap. (Mac 7, 2018) — USA Boxing announced today the tentative rosters for the three-city USA vs. IRL Northeast Boxing Tour that is kicking offMac 12 di Kompleks Royale Hiburan Boston. All three stops will showcase top USA boxers that have won numerous international medals.
Boston’s stop, which is presented by Budweiser, will feature three World Championship medalists, Termasuk 2017 Elite World Championship bronze medalist Troy Isley (Alexandra, Va.), who just earned a silver at the 2018 Strandja Tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria last month, serta 2016 Youth World Champions Delante Johnson (Cleveland, Ohio) dan 2016 Youth World Championship bronze medalist Richard Torrez (Tulare, Calif.). Headlining the women is Virginia Fuchs (Kemah, Texas), who won four international gold medals in 2017 and began her 2018 with a bronze at the Strandja Tournament.
Team USA’s second dual at Springfield’s MassMutal Center on Mac 15 will be headlined once again Isley and Johnson, as well as their 2017 World Championship teammate Quinton Randall (Humble, Texas) will join them on this leg of the tour, bersama dengan 2017 National Champion and Continental Championship silver medalist Oshae Jones (Toledo, Ohio). New York’s Premier Amateur Boxing Tournament “New York Metro Qualifier: The Road to the Garden” Opens with a Bang!

Mac 7, 2018 – New York, NY – Competitors and fans alike braved the elements as Mother Nature’s “bomb cyclone” struck the area, selling out the first two nights of Metro’s The Road to the Garden event. World champion Iran Barkley and five-time Golden Gloves champion David Villar were among the luminaries witnessing the events, along with former New York State Athletic Commissioner Melvina Lathan. Yonkers PAL saw ten exciting bouts in the 152 paun (welterweight) Novice class, with nine going to a decision and one stopped by the referee:
  • Zachary Blumberg (Freeport PAL) defeated Muhammad Saeed, (Rustam’s BC) – RSC, Rd 2.

USA Boxing Metro Announces Opening Night for “The New York Metro Qualifiers: The Road to the Garden” at Yonkers PAL

NEW YORK, NY – Mac 1, 2018 – USA Boxing, Metro (“Metro”) opens the 2018 New York Metro Qualifiers on March 1st at Yonkers PAL, terletak di 127 North Broadway in Yonkers. Pintu akan dibuka di 6 PM. It’s an experience any sports fan should not miss.”

Amerika Syarikat BOXING, METROPOLITAN ASSOCIATION, INC. is the Local Boxing Committee (LBC) comprising New York City, Pulau Long, and up to and including Duchess, Sullivan, and Ulster Counties. THE NEW YORK METRO QUALIFIERS 2018 tournament is open to boxers aged 8 years and older from the New York City Metropolitan area, up to and including Duchess, Orange, and Ulster Counties. COLORADO SPRINGS, Lap. (Mac 1, 2018) – High school senior Sharahya-Taina Moreu, one of the top youth amateur boxers in the world, will make her USA Boxing in the Women’s Elite Division at home in Albuquerque, Mac 6-10, di 2018 USA Boxing Western Elite Qualifier and Regional Open Championships.

The 18-year-old Moreu, who plans to attend community college next year, adalah 2016 USA Boxing National Champion, in addition to a four-time Native American and 2014 Gene Lewis champion. She was a silver medalist at the 2015 Junior/Youth Open and 2014/2015 Junior Olympic championships.

Tinju, her father/coach, Yoruba Moreu, Allahyarham Johnny Tapia helped her overcome the life-changing tragedy of her mother’s death in an automobile accident, forging a new path for her as a role model and 2020 Olympic hopeful. “I was only eight when my mother died,” Moreu remembered. “I was laying on her when the car-rolled and she was thrown through the back window. I was the first out of the card and on the freeway asking for help.

“I’m a better person because of that accident, walaupun. Pada mulanya, I was regretful and angry, getting in fights and on a bad path. I got into boxing, took anger management, and became motivated. I didn’t realize that I’d become a role model until girls started asking me for advice. They do look up to me and some of them I now coach.”

Fighting at home in the Western Qualifier has a special meaning for Moreu. “I thought fighting in Albuquerque would be a lot of pressure,” she admitted, “but there’s not much pressure on me because of all the support I’m receiving. It’s easy here. Albuquerque isn’t like a big city but it’s becoming a fight town.

“I like to travel and meet different people. Tahun lepas, I represented to United States in India at the Youth Championships, and I saw another part of the world, how people trained and had different life styles. I’m turning 19 dalam bulan May, so this is my first-time boxing in an Elite tournament, and it’s great doing it in my hometown.

Moreu also credits her father for a large amount of her success in the ring and life. “He’s been a single parent, but he’s always been there doing his best for me as a father and coach,” Sharahya-Taina noted. “Most people don’t know that he’s Puerto Rican, my mother a Native American (Pueblo).”

Like most young, elite athletes, Sharahya-Taina has a dream. “2020 in the Olympics,” she concluded. “I want to establish myself as an amateur and eventually go pro and have a good career.”

LOWELL, Mass. (Februari 23, 2018) – Hampir 50 past New England Golden Gloves boxers turned out last night for the inaugural USA Boxing Alumni Association meet-and-greet in a private room, prior to the opening bout of the New England Tournament of Champions, at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium in Lowell, Massachusetts.
The USA Boxing Alumni Association gathering was also to promote the 2018 USA vs. Ireland Northeast Boxing Tour, which kicks-off Isnin, Mac 12, at Royale Entertainment Complex in Boston’s famed theater district. The New England Tournament of Champions, also known as the All-New England’s, is part of the 72nd annual New England Golden Gloves Championships.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Lap. (Februari 22, 2018) – USA Boxing head coach Billy Walsh was the head coach of his native country’s amateur program in Ireland for 12 years and, ironinya, those two squads will compete in three friendly duals next month on the 2018 USA vs. Ireland Northeast Tour.
A 1988 Ireland Olympian, Walsh coached the Irish Team from 2003 kepada 2015, and he took over Team USA in 2015, capturing the AIBA’s World Coach of the Year the past two years.

“I am a true Irishman who developed through a system that won multiple titles and I was the Irish Team captain for five years. I’m helping develop strong relations between USA and Ireland that can help both programs. Ireland has been among the best of the world – amazing considering the geographical size of Ireland — with its fighters’ great hearts along with their technique and skill. There’s a lot of talent and resources in the states, but amateur boxers have been taught to develop skills more for professional boxing. Here there is a variety of different ethnic groups: Mexicans, African-American and Caucasians, terlalu. It’s truly a melting pot and each has a unique style of boxing. We are now providing coaching education for US programs to be sustainable long term.”
Boston, sudah tentu, is known for being Irish friendly, to say the least. The Mayor of Boston, for example, adalah Marty Walsh. Coach Walsh has only been in Boston once, 10 years ago with his wife for a short holiday.
“I didn’t do or get to see too much,” Walsh added. “but I know that there’s a lot of Irish history in Boston. Boston is a home away from home for the Irish. I have some friends and family there. I even joke that the mayor is my cousin. I understand that there are a lot of Irish in Springfield and Manchester, serta. I’m looking forward to going to all three cities on this tour.”
