Cherry of Wauchula, Florida has had a smooth camp while training in the Sunshine State and is ready for the 46th start of his professional start.
“Everything is good, and we will be prepared for everything on Plaub Hlis Ntuj 4,” said the 34-year-old Cherry.
“Rau Plaub Hlis Ntuj 4, whatever Douglas brings, we will be prepared for. This is not the first time, that I’ve been in this position. He is the guy who has to prove he can perform. I have been there before, so the pressure is on him.
Cherry has been a top contender at both the 130 thiab 135 phaus kev sib cais, and he even challenged for a world title at 140 phaus. He believes there are many reasons that he has remained a viable contender who has only lost once in the last nine years and 13 fights.
I am motivated and I believe in myself,” hais tias Cherry. “Those are the reasons that I am still here at the top of the 130 thiab 135 divisions. My family gives me drive every day. Plaub Hlis Ntuj 4 will be another great fight. This is my job and I have to go out and do it well.
Cherry believes a win should gain him another crack at a world title.
A win definitely puts me ahead. It will open doors for better fights and better paydays. A title shot is what I want. But also a bigger money fight that will take care of my family.
Douglas has been training at home in Delaware, has been working hard for this fight, which could be a breakthrough fight on the heels of his narrow defeat to former world champion Javier Fortuna last November.
“Txhua yam yog zoo kawg. This has been a long camp. I have been getting great work,” hais tias lub 26- year-old Douglas.
I am the better fighter. I have known about him for a long time. I watched him a lot when he fought on Friday Hmo ntuj Fights.”
That fight with Fortuna was a major step up, and Douglas had a lot of positive moments, as he dropped the former champion in the 1st round, only to lose by three points on two cards and one point on a third card.
The Fortuna fight let me know and let the people know that Omar Douglas is a world class fighter. Even in a loss, people did not expect me to do well. I thought that I showed a lot that night and I will carry that confidence into this fight on Plaub Hlis Ntuj 4.”
Douglas believes that a win over Cherry is his path to a world title.
I think that it is time. I just happen to be crossing paths with Cherry. This fight makes sense for me. I will let people know that I am player at 130 phaus, and a win will earn me a title shot. I have shown that I will fight anyone. Look at the records of my previous opponents. Fortuna was 30-1 and one fight removed from being a world champion. Alexei Collado was 19-1; Frank De Alba was 17-1. So wins over those guys plus Cherry should have me right there, but I am focusing on Edner Cherry. He is a great veteran, tab sis rau hnub Tuesday night I will be victorious.

JAMEL herring
“Camp yog zoo. I started in Cincinnati and finished in D.C. with Barry Hunter, Patrice Harris and of course Mike Stafford. During my time in D.C., I sparred with Lamont Peterson, who turned southpaw for me.
I have a great deal of respect for Shafikov. Tough guy, experienced but he had his chance and it’s my time now. This is my toughest fight on paper but I feel good. It’s my time to earn my respect.
It’s a huge honor and blessing to headline on ESPN on 4th of July weekend. I want to put on a good show,
Its extra special to honor on this weekend, being that I was a marine and to headline and I want to put on a patriotic and great performance.
I believe a win will open the doors for a world title. Nyob rau hauv kuv lub siab, I am taking this fight as a world title fight. That is how important this fight is and before the end of the year, I hope to get a crack at a world title.
DENIS SHAFIKOV
Everything went well in camp. We had a four-month camp. We were supposed to fight a couple of months ago but when that fight was cancelled, Denis relaxed for a minute and then this opportunity came up.
Herring has a great record and he represented the U.S. in the Olympics. He is still young and I feel that my experience will be the determining factor.
I accepted this fight because a win gets us in line for big opportunities, including another shot at a world championship.
PATRYK SZYMANSKI
I’m excited about the opportunity to take on an experienced opponent. I think it will be a good test for me and a chance to show off my skills.
I’ve worked very hard so that I can leave an impression with my performance. These are the kind of fights that I have to win and win in style if I want to reach my goals in this sport.
WILKY CAMPFORT
Training camp went very well. I don’t know too much about my opponent but I did see him fight once in Tampa. Xws li Saturdayhmo ntuj, I will see what he has.
It means a lot to fight on ESPN. The first fight that I saw that involved a fellow Haitian was Daniel Edouard on ESPN and it gave me a lot of motivation to pursue my career.
I am not only fighting for myself, but all of the people in Haiti and Florida that have been supporting me.
A win will put me right back into where I was when I had my long winning streak. A win will put me back in the mix at 154-pounds.

LUIS CRUZ
I thought the last knockdown was a slip. That was the difference between the draw and my win.
“Kuv mob nws. I had the power. I tried to work round-by-round. I feel that I won six rounds and that the knockdown cost me the win.
I thought I fought well. The draw was better than a loss. Why not a rematch? He is strong and dangerous. He hits hard but I know I am better than him.
IMMANUWEL ALEEM
He was a tough guy. I hit him with some good shots but he kept his ground. I respect that.
I was trying to take my time to get him out. I was being hasty. I was trying to get him every chance I got but he was tough. I am a student of the game and I was taking my time.
My manager George Peterson has a resume of building up Paul Williams and I trust what he has in store for me. He knows what I am capable of doing. We will go after everybody, just like Paul did.
JUNIOR CASTILLO
It was a very good fight. I had some difficulty at first but I felt confident that I would be victorious.
I kept consistent with my game plan and I was able to knock him down. I thought I would be able to finish him but I got too wild.
It feels good to defeat an undefeated prospect and also go the distance. I have never gone the distance before.
I want some kind of title fight. My confidence is much higher right.
KYRONE DAVIS
I felt like it was a good fight. I feel like I won. I thought the crowd swayed the judges. I felt like I won but that’s how it goes sometimes.
“78-73 was too wide. I controlled the first two rounds. He crossed over and hit me with a good shot. He may have won the knockdown round and the last round.
If he gives me a rematch, I would love it. This is just a minor setback. I will improve after this fight and I will move forward.
