Chicago Welterweight Looks to Defeat Another Unbeaten Boxer When He Faces Taras Shelestyuk in Main Event Of ShoBox: The New Generation Tripleheader, Denne fredag, November. 4, Live on SHOWTIME®

NEW YORK (November. 1, 2016) – Jimmy “Sandheden” Herrera is accustomed to entering the ring as an underdog. The Chicago native is experienced in fighting favored prospects and contenders on the road and has had an inordinate success in these types of matchups, having defeated unbeaten prospects in four of his last nine fights.

So don’t expect Herrera (15-3-1, 8 KOS) to be in awe of his opponent, former Ukraine amateur standout and rising star, Taras Shelestyuk (14-0, 9 KOS) when they meet this Fredag, November. 4, in the 10-round welterweight main event on ShoBox: Den nye generationlever videre SHOWTIME® (10:30 p.m. OG/PT, forsinket på vestkysten) på Omega Products Event Center i Crown, Calif.

The 5-foot-10, 27-year-old Herrera has won three in a row and is 8-1-1 since dropping a close eight-round decision to Adrian Granados i februar 2012. One of those victories was an upset seventh-round TKO over one-time highly ranked welterweight and world title challenger Mike “Maskinpistol” Jones on Aug. 23, 2014.

Herrera is promoted by Hitz Boxing and co-managed by Cameron Dunkin and Mike Cericola.

Here are Herrera’s responses to a recent Q&A:

What are your thoughts going into your ShoBox debut?
“Jeg er altid op til en udfordring, so I’m really excited about this opportunity. I’m definitely ready to compete against another undefeated fighter. I’m coming to show my skills to the world and prove I’m a boxer you have to pay attention to.

At this point of my career, I want to make a move fast while I’m young. I don’t just want to be a guy with a nice record. I truly believe in my skills and that I can reach the highest level.

I’ve been getting great help with sparring with the best of the best in Chicago. Sam Colonna, George Hernandez and all the Chicago boxing coaches have been great mentors to me and I am very thankful.

What do you know about Shelestyuk?
He was a great amateur fighter and he’s a lefty. That’s pretty much all I need to know. The only thing I can give him is that he has experience, so I’ve got to be careful of that. But it’s nothing newI’ve seen fighters like that.

What kind of fight do you expect?
I expect him to be a boxer with movement. I think he’ll try to box me. I’ll be coming forward, being aggressive. Derefter, we’ll see what his game plan is.

What is the key to winning?
It all depends on the pressure I can apply, throwing the right punches at the right time, the accuracy of my punches. Each punch has to have a purpose. I’m definitely more of a pressure guy. I like Gennady Golovkin’s style, Julio Cesar Chavez is my idol. That is the kind of style I try to fight with.

On fighting on ShoBox for the first time?
I’m definitely excited because I know a lot of people will be watching. Jeg er ikke nervøs overhovedet. The cameras, the bright lights, ærligt, I don’t care about. My focus is totally on this fight. This is the type of fight that can open a lot of doors for me.

Is this your biggest fight and do you feel pressure?
“Ja, afgjort, this is my biggest fightjust for all the doors a win would open for me, all the possibilities. Der er ingen pres på mig. He’s the one representing his country with the weight on his shoulders. I’ve lost before, but that doesn’t make me an opponent.

Are they making a mistake fighting you??
I feel like they are making a mistake, but I also feel this is going to be a good test for him. I think Taras took the fight more for himself. But if he doesn’t know now about me, he’s going to find out.

You boxed amateurs for one year and had 25 ender. Han var en 2012 Olympic Bronze Medalist with a boatload of amateur accomplishments. How significant is the experience of fighting amateur?
“Personligt, til mig, the amateurs are not that important at all. It’s all irrelevant once you go pro. I know some great amateur boxers who made it after turning pro, and some who didn’t. It’s a whole different ballgame. As a pro, I believe I’ve fought better guys than he has. I’ve been tested way more than he has. You can’t take away what he did as an amateur, but fighting with the smaller gloves, with no headgear, is totally different.

Undefeated cruiserweights Constantin Bejenaru (11-0, 4 KOS, 0-1-1 i World Series of Boxing), of Catskill, N.Y.. by way of Moldova, og Steve “Superman” Bujaj (16-0-1, 11 KOS), af New York, will collide in a 10-rounder for the vacant WBC International WBC Continental Americas titles in the co-feature.

The nephew of popular former two-time lightweight world champion Acelino “Butt” Freitas, ubesejret letvægts Vitor Jones Freitas (12-0, 1 ND, 6 KOS), of Salvador, Bahia, Brasilien, will be opposed by local fan favorite Manuel Mendez (12-1-2, 8 KOS), af Indio, Calif., in an eight-round bout in the opening match of the telecast.

Tickets for the event promoted by Banner Promotions, Thompson Boksning, Hitz Boxing and Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing are priced at $100 (Ringside), $70 (reserveret) og $50 (generel optagelse) og kan købes ved at ringe (714) 935-0900.

NEW YORK (Oktober. 31, 2016) – Promising unbeaten 2012 Olympiske Lege Bronze Medalist Taras "Real Deal" Shelestyuk (14-0, 9 KOS) will make his main event debut when he faces upset-minded Jimmy Herrera in the 10-round featured attraction of a ShoBox: Den nye generation tripleheader this Fridaog, November. 4, lever videre SHOWTIME10:30 p.m. OG/PT (forsinket på vestkysten) fra Omega Products International Event Center i Corona, Calif.

A 5-foot-10 up-and-coming rising star, Shelestyuk, Los Angeles, is ranked No. 9 af WBO og nr. 13 i WBA. Shelestyuk, who is making his second ShoBox start, gennemsnit 85 punches a round en route to winning his ShoBox debut with a 10-round division over Aslanbek Kozak den nov. 6, 2015.

The dedicated, hard-working Shelestyuk, who is trained by Eric Brown and spars a few days a week with former world champion Shane Mosley, at Wild Card West in Santa Monica, Calif., possesses solid skills, bevægelse og stansning magt.

Shelestyuk was a member of a vaunted 2012 Ukrainian Olympic team that included featherweight gold medalist Vasyl Lomachenko and heavyweight gold medalist Oleksandr Usyk. The 30-year-old feels he’s still about a year away from competing against the best at 147 pounds and that he first must get by Herrera. But Mosley claims Shelestyuk reminds him of a bigger Lomachencko and believes he’s already ready for the top names in the welterweight division.

Herrera (15-3-1, 8 KOS), af Chicago, Ill., has defeated unbeaten prospects in four of last nine fights and is 8-1-1 overall since July 2012.

Shelestyuk, Brown and Mosley spoke to SHOWTIME after a recent workout. Here’s what they said:

TARAS SHELESTYUK:

What are your thoughts going into the fight?
“I’m very excited. It’s been six months since my last fight. It’s my first headline fight and hopefully not my last one.

“I’ve been putting in a lot of work in my training camp with my trainer Eric Brown, and with my physical conditioning coach. My opponent is a tough fighter. He’s had some good fights with guys like Mike Jones, Egidijus Kavaliauskas and a couple of other big guys. He likes to fight and I think it will be a good fight and a good matchup for our styles.”

You’re now a ranked fighter; are you happy with the pace of your progression?

“I’m happy with my progression but of course I want to fight bigger names in championship fights and all of that. I know it’s coming soon. I enjoy my way of training and developing my skills, but if you see your dream you do anything to reach it and don’t let anything get in your way.’’

What do you think of the welterweight division?

“It’s a very good division because there are a lot of fighters, but some don’t want to fight each other (very often). There are some very good championship fights to be made and hopefully I will be one of them.”

Why did you chose to move to Southern California?

“Well, [griner] mainly because if the great weather, but this is also a good area with a lot of good fighters and a lot of good trainers as well. When I first moved here my manager invited me out and showed me around and I got in the gym right away. I was training with Ruslan Provodnikov and got some sparring in with him before a fight that he had and next thing you know, two weeks later I had my pro debut and now three-and-a-half years later here I am.’’

Is there pressure on you when you fight?

“I wouldn’t say I feel pressure because everyone around me is supporting me, they believe in me and I believe in them. My team believes in me and I trust them. I just want to do what I do in the ring, bedre. I want to do better for me, for my family and for my friends.’’

Do you follow your Olympic teammates?

“I watch fights of the Ukrainian Olympic Team, and I enjoy when the other guys win. We support each other and we call each other. It is good for there to be more Ukraine fighters who are champions now. Næste år, I hope to be one of them.”

How did it feel going 10 runder for første gang?

“Last year in November I had my first 10-round fight on ShoBox, I fought with a strong guy and he gave me a very good fight. I went the 10 rounds and I felt like I could still go two more. I am ready for 10, for 12, det gør ikke noget. I feel much better, much more powerful. I have more speed than I had in my last fight, too.”

How did you end up training with Eric?

“I trained with Freddie Roach for about two and a half years when I met Eric at Wild Card West Gym. I started sparring with some of his guys there. After my fight with Rodriguez on ESPN in 2015 I asked Eric to train me and we started working. Now that I’ve fought two fights with him as my trainer, I feel my boxing skills are better, I feel more powerful and I enjoy training in his gym.

“All of the trainers help us and they give us advice. On the days I spar with Shane Mosley he stops and gives me some advice. I learn a lot from him, being the fighting legend that he is. I grew up watching him fight as a kid and respect what he’s able to teach me. Then the next time I try what he has taught me and it works.”

Boxing is in your blood; your dad and brother boxed. When you were younger, did you think you were going to become a fighter?

"Du skal ikke, but my father pushed me in a lot of sports. I did gymnastics, soccer for five years, and played chess. I fought as a kid but it was always friendly. I always enjoyed the training aspect. To train for soccer sometimes my father and I would run barefoot in the snow and I enjoyed it. Så, as a kid, when I first stepped into the boxing gym, it was just so much fun.’’

Your ShoBox fight falls on your father’s birthday; do you have a special present in mind for him?

“It makes me want to get the victory for him. On his day, he will be sitting and watching my fight so I want to get that victory for him, for my family and for the Ukraine.’’

ERIC BROWN, Shelestyuk’s trainer

What kind of camp has Taras had has had and what do you see happening på fredag?

“I see a lot of progression in Taras. When we first started working together, one of the things was that Taras always had great boxing ability, but he wasn’t a great finisher. I don’t know if he was gun shy or what it was but he had a tendency of using his talent to get people in trouble but then he would stand back and let them get back in the fight. Så, what we’ve been working on a lot more is getting him to become a better finisher and recognize when he has his man in trouble and how to seize the moment, without being reckless at the same time. He’s improving at a fast pace.

“A lot of guys from Ukraine seem to have similar tendencies because they have long amateur careers and they start picking up bad habits that we need to correct. Taras had a little bit of that in him but he seems to be making the adjustments very well. He’s an extremely hard worker and you often have to tell him to slow down, you never have to tell him to do more.”

Where do you see him in his career as a welterweight?

“It’s a great division. I’d say that Keith Thurman tops it without a doubt now but there are good fighters like Shawn Porter too. If Mayweather decided to come back, I think he would be all over this division again. Canelo is a good super welterweight, but he’s too busy worrying about catch-weights. Undoubtedly in another year, I think Taras will be right there with the best of them. He’s got a lot of talent, great versatility, great hand speed and foot speed and he’s a good puncher. Not a devastating knockout puncher but a great puncher nonetheless with both hands.’’

SHANE MOSLEY, Tidligere verdensmester

How has it been working with Taras and how did you become involved in his training?

“I have been sparring with Taras and he’s looking really sharp. I’ve been sparring with him for about four or five months now pretty consistently because a lot of guys won’t spar with him. Guys are worried that he will make them look bad; he’s so technical and sharp that they don’t want to spar with him. Så, I go in there with him a lot. It’s hard to get people to spar with him.’’

Where do you see him in the welterweight division?

“He’s on that championship path, that level, but I think once he gets there, he’ll get more sparring partners and will get even better. He really is a world champion, a world-class fighter. He reminds me of a bigger Lomachenko, sparring with him is just like that. I see him as a top welterweight champion. The way he throws his combinations, he’s a smart boxer who works out very hard. He’s at the gym every single day, whether he’s sparring or not, whether he has some training to do or not. He’ll even be here by himself just moving around and staying sharp. His work ethic is really, virkelig stærk.

How do you like working with Taras?

“I like Taras and I enjoy working with him. He’s extremely dedicated and that’s hard to find. I like Taras’ work ethic, his personality, how he takes to boxing. He loves this sport and he wants to be the best. He doesn’t like to lose, even in sparring. I’m impressed with him. When I sparred with him for the first time I was very impressed at his swing, his power, his ring accuracy, his IQ of boxing. I was impressed with how hard he worked and his willingness to learn.’’

Do you find it unusual for guys to be as dedicated as Taras at this point in their careers?

“It’s unusual in the sense that a lot of fighters want to learn from the top guys but it seems to me with Taras that it’s not fake. He truly does want to learn about boxing so that he can be the best. He wants to become a world champion and is working to become one of the best. If you put Taras in the ring with any big name today and I’d say he would take the victory. He has a sound mind. He has the mentality to be at the top. He’s serious about being the world champion, about being the top fighter. He’s serious about winning and he’s going to take it all the way to the end. If you put this guy against Thurman, I’d go with him. I think he beats Thurman right now.’’

ZUBOV: I CAME TO DETROIT TO BECOME CHAMPION

Russian cruiserweight is back in action on November 12 at the latest ‘Detroit Brawlat the Masonic Temple

Last April at the Turning Stone in Verona, New York, and with the ShoBox: The New Generation cameras rolling, Alexey Zubov admits he choked.

I was nervous. I never fought on a big show,” explained Zubov of the unanimous decision loss he suffered to Moldova’s Constantin Bejenaru. “It was such a huge step in my career and I felt frozen by nerves.
Fighters often make excuses when they lose, but with Zubov, there may be some validity. Normally a very active fighter with a high work rate, Zubov appeared listless and sluggish for eight uneventful rounds.
Life doesn’t always go the way you want. Losing that fight made me stronger. It was a good lesson for me and it was good for my experience to fight on that level. And now I know what it’s like. That will never happen again.
Zubov will continue his quest for another shot at the big time on Lørdag, November 12, at Salita Promotions’ “Detroit Brawlevent at the Masonic Temple in Downtown Detroit.
Sponsored by Thomas Magee’s Sporting House Whiskey Bar, billetter til “Detroit Brawlwill be priced at VIP $123, Box Seats $100, Ringside $93, $63, $38, og $28 and available at all Ticketmaster outlets andTicketmaster.com.
Originally from Magnitogorsk, Rusland, Zubov says he’s enjoyed his last eight months living in Detroit and working with the late Emanuel Steward’s nephew Javan “Sukker” Hill at the resurgent Kronk Gym.
I came to Detroit to become a champion. I want to show everyone that I’m a world-class cruiserweight and I want to show everyone all the things Javan has been teaching me. He is a great trainer and I have a very good relationship him.
When not in training, Zubov says he loves the challenge of adapting to a new culture, virtually alone.
I only miss my parents, but we talk everyday on Skype or Facetime and they support me all the way. I don’t have many Russian-speaking friends in Detroit. Most of the time, I practice my English to try and learn it well. Hver dag, I challenge myself to learn new words. I’ve always been like that. Just like my boxing skills. Every day I push myself to be better.
Zubov says in near-perfect English that he’d love the chance to settle some unfinished business.

I want a rematch with Bejenaru so bad. I can do so much better than that. I know I can. I will prove I can. I will not stop until I do.

MIAMI, Okla. (Syv. 24, 2016) – On a night when undefeated heavyweight Trey Lippe Morrison won his television debut and Ivan "The Beast" Baranchyk og Ivan "The Volk" Golub forblev ubesejret, lys sværvægter Radivoje "Hot Rod" Kalajdzic regained his winning ways by registering a fifth-round knockout over previously unbeaten Travis Peterkin i de vigtigste tilfælde af en ShoBox: Den nye generation quadrupleheader leve på SHOWTIME Fredag fra Buffalo Run Kasino i Miami, Okla.

Gør hans ShoBox debut and first start since suffering his lone defeat on a disputed decision to Marcus Browne, a motivated Kalajdzic (22-1, 15 KOS) St. Petersburg, Fla., dropped Peterkin (16-1-1, 7 KOS), of the Brownsville section of Brooklyn, N.Y., two times in the fifth before the fight was stopped at 1:32.

Other televised results: Baranchyk (12-0, 10 KOS), af Brooklyn, N.Y., took a 10-round unanimous decision over Wang Zhimin (7-1, 3 KOS, 7-1 WSB), af Nutley, N.J. i form af Ningbo, Porcelæn, i ShoBox co-feature; immensely popular local favorite and son of the late former world heavyweight champion, Tommy ”The Duke” Morrison, sværvægter Trey Lippe Morrison (12-0, 12 KOS) demolished previously unbeaten Ed Latimore (13-1, 7 KOS), of Pittsburgh, Pa., scoring a 2:19, first-round TKO; and Ukrainian welterweight Golub (13-0, 11 KOS, 5-0 WSB), af Brooklyn, registered a third-round knockout over James Stevenson(23-3, 16 KOS), af Baltimore, Md.

Kalajdzic overwhelmed Peterkin with consistent aggression, superior fighting spirit and better power. Han landede 45 procent af hans magt skud, Herunder 60 percent in the final round. Mere, he led 37-7 in body connects.

“The one-dimensional nature of Travis Peterkin cost him big time because he had no answer for Hot Rod’s right hand, and when he threw his own power shots they were ineffective,'' ShoBox ekspert analytiker Steve Farhood said afterward. “He was exposed i aften, and Kalajdzic rejuvenated his career after the loss with Marcus Browne.”

A 6-foot-2 native of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kalajdzic dropped Peterkin the first time with a right-left combination and finished him with a right-left-right combination. Peterkin fell heavily in a neutral corner, prompting the referee to stop it.

“He was a little bit awkward so it took me a little bit to find my range but once I did and I got into a rhythm, I knew he wasn’t going to last,’’ Kalajdzic said. “We have been working on staying patient and finding that range and it showed i aften.

“I wanted to make a statement in this fight and I did. I want the biggest names in the light heavyweight division, but before that I want Marcus Browne again. That is unfinished business for me. If he really thinks he won the fight then let’s do it again. We could fight next week. I’m ready.’’

Baranchyk, despite getting cut for the first time in his career (over his left eye in the fifth), vundet af snesevis af 100-90 to gange og 99-91. Der var ingen knockdowns.

The rounds, particularly in the fight’s second half, were competitive. Both fighters landed a high percentage of power shots, 44 percent for Baranchyk, 41 percent for Zhimin, but the difference was that Baranchyk was busier, crisper and physically stronger.

Going more than four rounds for the first time, he answered questions about his late-round stamina and feels he is now ready to step up again.

“The 140-pound division is loaded with talent,’’ Baranchyk sagde. “There are tons of fighters I would love to fight, but there are two guys in particular I’d like to fight next: Maurice Hooker and Abel Ramos. Hooker is with Roc Nation and is above me in the ratings. He’s undefeated and this would be a great fight to prove I’m one of the best up-and-coming guys in this division. I’d love Ramos to fight Ramos too. We are both promoted by DBE and I have heard he called me out. He’s a come forward guy and those are the type of fights I like and that make for great TV.

“I love the fans here in Miami and I love fighting on ShoBox. This was my first time going 10 rounds and I feel great. Of course I would have liked to get the knockout because I always want to put on a spectacular show, men dette var en stor lærerig oplevelse for mig. He was an extremely tough opponent and I was surprised he was able to take so many big shots. We have been working on being patient and boxing and I was able to show that i aften.''

Wang, who gave his best and never allowed Baranchyk to relax, sagde, “I felt a little tight and I couldn’t get my punches off like I wanted to. He was a little too big for me.’’

In a performance that lit up the arena, Lippe Morrison dropped Latimore two times and was on the verge of knocking him down again when the referee stepped in and halted matters at 2:19. Morrison decked Latimore the first time with a right hand midway through the first. Øjeblikke senere, Latimore went down again from two rights and a left hook. After a series of shots, the referee stopped it.

“You know I have to watch the fight, but I think I did alright,’’ said Morrison after what was supposed to be the most dangerous assignment of his career. “I know I have to be patient and work behind my jab and just take the opening that I see – patiently. Being patient is something I’ve really been working on. I really felt my patience this time.

“I didn’t expect it to end this quick. I knew it might, but I didn’t plan on it. It felt good to drop a guy with my left hand. I never had the accuracy or quickness with the left that I do know. I now feel that I am equally adept with both hands. My left is like my right.

“To win a fight like this is definitely a relief. I was nervous about the fight, but not about fighting on TV. This was supposed to be my toughest fight on paper and I think I did well.

“I feel I may have opened some eyes, but that’s in large part to Freddie Roach. I feel I’m improving thanks to Freddie. I’m throwing quicker, snappier punches and the coordination between my footwork with my hands is way better. All that is because of Freddie.

“I wasn’t going for the KO but I’m glad it happened. I could not have done it without Freddie, der er sikker. I’ll be going back to California in a week and then right to the gym.”

The knockout was Lippe Morrison’s ninth in the first round. He also has two second-round knockouts and one fourth-round KO in a career that began in February 2014.

“We want to see more of Trey Lippe Morrison,'Farhood sagde. “Let’s let Freddie Roach to do a little bit more of work with him. He had a tremendous pressure on him i aften, but he did fantastically and he responded very well. He made a big step up in class i aften and couldn’t have produced a better result: a first-round knockout.”

After a competitive, fast-paced first round, Golub took over as Stevenson appeared to tire. A picturesque right hook to the chin dropped and staggered Stevenson, who still wobbly, got up by the count of five, but Golub continued his two-fisted assault, delivered over 20 unanswered punches and the referee stopped it.

“To me the guy that stole the show was Golub,"Sagde Farhood. “We keep thinking of him as a boxer but he showed tremendous power i aften. He knocked out a very sturdy opponent in Stevenson and Baranchyk will benefit tremendously by going 10 runder. He showed a lot by throwing as many punches as he did late in the fight against an opponent who simply wouldn’t be hurt.’’

“I could see from the first round that he was leaving himself wide open when he was coming in,’’ said Golub after his second ShoBox begyndelse. “I knew it was only a matter of time until I caught him with something really big and I would get him out of there. I’m happy with the performance but know I still have a lot to improve on. Our game plan was to be patient and box and let him come to us. I’m looking forward to getting back in there soon and continuing to climb the ranks of the welterweight division.’’

Fredagens four-fight telecast that was promoted by DiBella Entertainment and Tony Holden Productions in association with Fight Promotions and Roc Nation Sports will re-air Mandag10 p.m.

I spar 10 runder hver dag.

WANG Zhimin

FREDDIE ROACH, Morrisons Trainer

Hans navn betyder meget.

GORDON HALL, Senior Vice President for Produktion, SHOWTIME Sports & Executive Producer,ShoBox: Den nye generation

"Ivan Baranchyk, adoptivsøn af Buffalo Run Casino her i Miami.

“Hot Rod” Kalajdzic Faces Undefeated Travis Peterkin in Main Event,
Ivan Baranchyk, Wang Zhimin in Clash of Unbeaten Junior Welterweights, Welterweight Ivan Golub Risks Perfect Record Against James Stevenson

Live på SHOWTIME®10 p.m. OG/PT

NEW YORK (Syv. 21, 2016) - Trey Lippe Morrison er 11-0 med 11 knockouts. He is the son of the late former world heavyweight championTommy ”The Duke” Morrison. A Grove, Okla., indfødte, Trey resides in Hollywood, Calif., and is trained by Freddie Roach at Wild Card Gym.

Dette Fredag, Syv. 23, Morrison makes his eagerly awaited television debut when he faces fellow unbeaten and Roc Nation prospect Ed Latimore (13-0, 7 KOS), of Pittsburgh, Pa., in the second bout of a ShoBox: Den nye generation quadrupleheader leve på SHOWTIME (10 p.m. OG/PT, forsinket på vestkysten) fra Buffalo Run Kasino i Miami, Okla.

Morrison, der vender 27 på Syv. 27, has recorded eight first-round knockouts, two second-round knockouts and one fourth-round KO in a career that began in February 2014. He bears a striking resemblance to his late father facially, physique-wise and with his fighting style, wears red, white and blue trunks with “TOMMY” written across the belt. He has fought all but one of his fights in Oklahoma; this is his 10th start at Buffalo Run.

A popular member of Holden’s Four State Franchise stable, the 6-foot-2 Morrison is fighting for the first time since he underwent surgery on his right tendon from an injury suffered in his most recent bout, a fourth-round TKO over Thomas Hawkins sidste Jan. 23.

Below is what Morrison and Roach said about Trey’s fight against LatimoreFredag, his up-and-coming career, life outside the ring, remembrances of his father, working with Freddie and more:

“I’m going to approach this fight against Latimore just the same way I approached my first 11 slagsmål,’’ said Morrison ahead of the scheduled six-round bout. “I’ve gained a lot of confidence and a lot of new skills, and I’m just honored to be able to showcase them. Being on SHOWTIME is just a huge bonus.”

Morrison’s thoughts on Ed Latimore …

“I’ve watched a little bit of video. He’s really similar to me. The way he bobs his head all the time and is a real aggressive fighter and always comes forward. It’s almost like I’m fighting a clone of myself. He kind of has that Mike Tyson style, and that’s what I expect to see. If he doesn’t come at me that way, then I’ll have to have a game plan for something else.”

Is Latimore your toughest fight to date?

“Oh, Ja. Selvfølgelig. 100 procent. His record says it all [13-0, 7 KOS]. He’s athletic. From just what I’ve seen of his past fights, he would be the toughest guy I’ve fought so far.”

On the injury suffered in his last fight …

“I feel like it is 100 percent healed. It was kind of a freak accident. I threw an uppercut and it hit him in the hard part of his head. Since I’ve been able to put my glove on it, it hasn’t been a problem.”

What are the keys to this fight?

“I think you always find the keys within the first couple rounds of the fight. That’s when you figure someone out. I figure I’m just going to be patient, and wait for my shot and when it comes, take it.”

Tommy was known as a left-hooker, you’re known for a strong right hand? Did you work more on your left when you were sidelined?

“Oh, ja. Tremendously. I would say me being hurt was a blessing. I think it helped me more than it hurt me. I was really able to develop and sharpen my left hand. So right now I feel like my left hand is just as lethal as my right. I’m confident I can now do everything with my left that I can with my right. I was more of a right-handed fighter before because my left hand wasn’t as developed yet. My timing and my speed wasn’t quite there with my left before, but now I’m good with both.”

On working with Freddie Roach…

“I’ve been working with Freddie for about a year now. I’m living in West Hollywood; right smack dab in the middle of all the craziness. But I stay away from all of it. I’m more of a hermit. If I’m not training, I’m at home. I really don’t go out much. I really just like being alone at times and being at my place. I don’t have many hobbies. I would say I’m a nerd. I like to play video games with my friends online.”

How did you end up with Freddie?

“I originally moved out here to train with Jesse Reid. He decided he wanted to make a move to Las Vegas, and that just wasn’t a move my promoter, Tony Holden, and I were going to make. Since I was already here, Tony had a lunch with Freddie who agreed to look at me. So I had a private session with him and after that he said he’d be willing to work with me.”

How much have you learned under Freddie’s watchful eye? …

“I’ve learned so muchprobably everything. And anything I was good at before, he’s sharpened it. I’d probably give him full credit for everything. The guys I’ve sparred with have also taught me a lot. It’s really helped me in every way possible.”

Did you play sports in high school?

“I played football, basketball and track. I played tight end and defensive end in football and I ran the hurdles and threw the shot and disc. I played four years of college football at the University of Central Arkansas. I played defensive end there. I had a couple of pro teams looking at me, but I screwed up my senior year and ended getting kicked off the team. I made some bad decisions, just being a dumb college kid, and that led to it. When boxing came up, it was like a second chance for me.

“I wasn’t ready for my athletic career to be over. Football ended for me because I made bad decisions. I needed to be told that I wasn’t good enough for me to move on and go out and get a regular job. Around the same time that happened, my dad passed away. My mom told me that Tony Holden had a casino in the next town from where I went to high school. I had never met him before but we went out and had a great time talking about my dad. So I popped the question to him and asked if he’d help me get into boxing. He said absolutely not. I told him I was going to give it a shot because I wasn’t able to give up athletics. He called me back three days later."

Do you feel pressure being the son of Tommy Morrison? …

"Yeah. I think there’s a lot of pressure on me to do well, and I think that really weighed on me the first couple of fights. That’s always going to be there. No matter who I fight, or how good I do, they are always going to compare me to my dad. I just have to deal with it. There definitely is pressure, but I can deal with it better now.

“When I first started, people were comparing my first fight ever with how my dad ended his career…to his best fight. So obviously I wasn’t going to match up that way. I knew that I’d get better and that one day I’d get there.”

How would you describe your relationship with your father?

“I’d say our relationship was awesome. We were great friends. Du ved, our time got cut short, and we didn’t get to spend a lot of time together. But the time we did have was amazing. And we really cherished it.”

Would you think your dad would be proud of you today, following in his footsteps?

“I think he would be proud of me. I wish he was here because the things he would say would help me a lot. I really do think he’d be proud.”

How much has your promoter Tony Holden meant to you?

“I wouldn’t be where I’m at without him. I can’t even put it into words. Ærligt, if I would have started boxing without him, no one would know who I was. Everything I have in boxing, is because of him. I met him in October of 2013, two or three months before I got into boxing.”

Freddie Roach, a seven-time Boxing Writers Association of America Trainer of the Year and 2012 inductee into the International Boxing Hall of Fame, will be in Morrison’s corner Fredag i Miami. He said Trey is dedicated, a joy to work with and has continued to improve. But he remains a work in progress.

“Trey’s a very nice person, a simple guy, real polite like most boxers.’’.

“He inherited his father’s punch. He’s a big puncher. He’s learned how to box and is getting better every day. He tries hard. I like the way he’s progressing. He holds his own with some of the veteran guys here at the gym and is doing very well.

“Once he learns to box a little more, he’s going to make a lot more noise in the division. My thoughts on the heavyweights right now is that it is not all that strong of a division. [Anthony] Joshua may be the best, and there are a couple other big names. But I think the division is mostly wide open for guys who have heart and balls and are ready to take it the distance. Trey’s that kind of kid.’’

It was Roach who wanted this fight. “His manager asked me if he was ready and I said he was 100 procent klar. Latimore is his toughest fight, but it’s time to step up.’’

I Fredagens ShoBox main event, gang-slået Radivoje Kalajdzic (21-1, 14 KOS), St. Petersburg, Fla. will try and resume his winning ways when he meets undefeated Travis Peterkin (16-0-1, 7 KOS), af Brooklyn, N.Y.. i en 10-runde lys sværvægter skrot. The combined record of the eight boxers on the televised card is 114-3-1 med 78 knockouts.

Kalajdzic, 25, St. Petersburg, Fla., og Peterkin, 26, of the Brownsville section of Brooklyn, N.Y., vil gøre deres ShoBox debuts and initial 10-round starts.

This is Kalajdzic’s first fight since losing a highly controversial and questionable eight-round split decision to unbeaten 2012 Olympian Marcus Browne sidste April 16 i Brooklyn. Kalajdzic is clamoring for a rematch with the world-ranked Browne, but he can’t overlook the strong, athletic Peterkin, who is coming off a shutout decision over Larry Pryor sidste Marts 30 and is looking for a breakout performance.

I ShoBox co-feature, super lightweight powerhouse Ivan "The Beast" Baranchyk (11-0, 10 KOS), af Brooklyn, N.Y., faces Roc Nation prospect’s Wang Zhimin (7-0, 3 KOS, 7-1 WSB), af Nutley, N.J. i form af Ningbo, Porcelæn, in a 10-rounder for the vacant USBA 140-pound title. In a scheduled eight-round bout, ukrainsk weltervægt Ivan "The Volk" Golub (12-0, 10 KOS, 5-0 WSB), af Brooklyn, tager på James ”Keep'em Sleepin” Stevenson (23-2, 16 KOS), af Baltimore, Md.

Local favorite and son of the late former world heavyweight champion, Tommy ”The Duke” Morrison, sværvægter Trey Lippe Morrison (11-0, 11 KOS) makes his highly anticipated television debut against fellow unbeaten and Roc Nation prospect Ed Latimore (13-0, 7 KOS), of Pittsburgh, Pa., in the six-round telecast opener.

(Den $35 tickets are sold out).

Kalajdzic (21-1, 14 KOS), a 6-foot-2 native of Bosnia and Herzegovina, turned pro in June 2011. Han vandt sin første 21 fights before losing to Browne in a bout in which many felt he won easily. Browne (18-0) landed an occasional hard shot, but Kalajdzic seemed to control the fight with his power and awkward style. Both boxers hit the deck, Kalajdzic (from what appeared to be a slip) in the first, Browne (clearly) in the sixth from a right hand to the head. Receiving credit for a knockdown in which no punch appeared to connect was the difference, and the fans booed when the scores of 76-75, 76-74 og 74-76 were announced.

“I am really excited about this fight and that I am on television again fighting another undefeated southpaw,"Sagde Kalajdzic. “I am continuing where I left off with training camp from my previous fight since it’s another southpaw, so I will be more than prepared. Forhåbentlig, Peterkin comes to fight and not hug like my last opponent did so we can give the fans a good fight.”

Peterkin (16-0-1, 7 KOS) would still have an unblemished record if not for losing two points in an eight-round majority draw with 2008 Dominikanske Olympian Lenin Castillo (12-0) den aug. 1, 2015 på Barclays center. Peterkin had a point deducted in the fourth for hitting after the break and in the fifth for a low blow. Pointene blev 76-74 og 75-75 to gange.

Despite the draw in his outing before last, Peterkin considered this the most gratifying moment of his life. Fra 2012-14, he stocked and served food in the suites at Barclays. In his most recent effort, Peterkin easily outpointed Pryor by the scores of 80-72 three times in New York. This will be Peterkin’s first fight outside of his home state.

A good boxer with excellent technique, Peterkin was introduced to boxing by his father, Bernard, en 1987 heavyweight Golden Gloves semifinalist, i 2001. Han gik 95-7 i amatører; after winning the 2010 New York Golden Gloves, he went pro in January 2011.

“I was ringside at Hot Rod’s last fight. Jeg respekterer ham, but I saw what his flaws are and will exploit them,” said Peterkin. “I am anticipating a war. Brooklyn is coming to Oklahoma and I will not disappoint. På Syv. 23, greatness beckons.”

Baranchyk, an offensive-minded fighting machine, packs outstanding power in both hands. He’s making his third appearance on ShoBox and third in a row at Buffalo Run. His otherShoBox starter, both first-round knockouts versus undefeated opponents, totaled a combined2:49.

The highly regarded, all-action Baranchyk registered a brutal, two-punch, 21-second stoppage over Nicholas Givhan (16-0-1) sidste Marts 25ShoBox at Buffalo Run. He scored a 2:28, første runde knockout løbet Shadi Shehadeh (9-0-2) i sin ShoBox debut last December. 11 i Houston, Texas.

Baranchyk was born in Minsk, Byelorussia and lives in Brooklyn. He’s won eight straight by knockout, including a third-round TKO over previously undefeated Joaquim "Eliseo” Cross (9-0-1) sidste Juni 25 at Buffalo Run. Dominant with his speed and power from the outset, Baranchyk dropped Cruz in the second. Cruz’s corner threw in the towel at 1:07 af den tredje.

Alle 10 of the 5-foot-7, 23-year-old Baranchyk’s knockouts have come inside three full rounds, including six in the first. He’s fought 22 rounds in an 11-fight career. The only time he went the distance was in his third fight, a four-rounder in December 2014. Baranchyk, a former European amateur standout, turned pro in June ‘14 and relocated to the United States a few months later.

“I couldn’t be more excited about returning to ShoBox,” said Baranchyk. “Zhimin is a very skilled fighter and he will be my toughest opponent yet. Men, I intend on ending this bout in devastating fashion. I guarantee you will see Zhimin on his back when the fight is over. I am looking to send a message to the rest of the junior welterweight division that I am someone to be feared.”

Zhimin, 30, turned pro in November 2010 and fought eight times in the WSB through 2011. After a three-year layoff, he relocated to the U.S. and has gone 7-0. He’s coming off an eight-round decision over Matthew Doherty sidste Juni 11. Zhimin had great success in the WSB, winning the gold in 2011 in his native China, defeating Yerzhan Mussafirov of Kazakhstan in the tightly contested lightweight final. Inden da, he reached the final in the Chinese National Boxing Championship in 2010, where he received a silver medal.

“It’s an honor for me to be a part of this great event,” said Zhimin. “I want to thank the promoters, my team and everyone who gave me this opportunity. My goal is to get that belt. I know it’s a process full of challenges, but I am not afraid of what lies ahead. I know that I will make it. I have faith in myself. I will do whatever I can to prepare myself for this title showdown and give the fans my best performance and bring home the belt.”

Golub, a 27-year-old who, at 6-feet, is tall for a welterweight, turned pro as a middleweight in November 2012. At the outset of his career, Han gik 5-0 in the WSB. He’s gone 12-0 siden, vindende 10 af knockout, including his last six in a row, the last three as a welterweight.

I sin ShoBox debut, he touched the canvas for the first time in his career, but bounced back to blast out Marlon Waters with a series of combinations in the closing seconds of the sixth. He won by TKO.

Golub, a southpaw who’s coming off a second-round TKO over Ernesto Ortiz sidste Juli 21, was an outstanding amateur. Han gik 270-32 som amatør, was a five-time national champion in Ukraine and won bronze at the 2009 World Amateur Championships.

“Stevenson has a lot of experience and I am preparing for a very tough fight,” said Golub. “He is a guy that likes to sit on his punches and trade, which is exactly what I want. Once he feels my power, he is going to be in trouble. This will be an exciting fight for as long as it lasts.”

Stevenson is making his ShoBox debut. En pro da 2008, he won his first 21 scraps until losing by ninth-round TKO to then-undefeated Sammy Vasquez den aug. 8, 2014. The fight was competitive for five rounds before Vasquez took over. Stevenson went down in the ninth.

The 5-foot-11, 33-year-old Stevenson has won two-of-three since, herunder en femte runde TKO i Kevin Womack sidste Maj 14 in his first fight i 13 måneder. A hard-hitting boxer-puncher, Stevenson has feasted on modest opposition and is still seeking a signature victory.

Stevenson has produced a respectable record in spite of his career getting sidetracked by a series of setbacks and tragedies. I 2011, during a routine jog, a dog viciously attacked him, requiring Stevenson to get more than 20 stitches. Kort tid derefter, his father James Stevenson Sr. passed away, as did his mother-in-law.

“I appreciate the opportunity,” said Stevenson. “But they made a big mistake giving me the time to get ready for this fight. I’m training real hard and I’m coming to make a statement. I’m not scared of Golub and I promise it won’t go the distance. I’m putting him to sleep.”

Morrison has registered eight first-round knockouts, two second-round knockouts and one fourth-round KO in a career that began in February 2014. Morrison, who bears a striking resemblance to his late father facially, physique-wise and with his fighting style, turns 27 påSyv. 27. He’s fought all but one of his fights in Oklahoma; this is his 10th start at Buffalo Run.

A popular member of Holden’s Four State Franchise stable, the 6-foot-2 Morrison is fighting for the first time since he underwent surgery on his right tendon from an injury suffered in his most recent bout, a fourth-round TKO over Thomas Hawkins sidste Jan. 23.

“I have worked so hard to get to this point and now this is my chance to show the world who I am. I want to thank SHOWTIME for the opportunity,” said Morrison. “Latimore is a huge step up in class for me, but I am ready for it. Once I hear those Oklahoma fans and feel the energy inside the arena, I flip a switch and it’s go-time. This is going to be my coming-out party.”

Latimore, who majored in physics in college, is a boxer-puncher expected to give Morrison his toughest test. Latimore is making his ShoBox debut and fourth start this year. He’s coming off an eight-round split decision over Juan Goode sidste Juli 15.

Den 6-fods-1, 31-year-old Latimore turned pro in January 2013. Som en amatør, he won the Pennsylvania Golden Gloves, National PAL and Ringside Championships, and was victorious over 2012 Olympian Dominic Breazeale and former IBF Heavyweight Champion Charles Martin.

“Morrison will be a real test for me,” said Latimore. “It’s never easy to fight someone in their backyard. I just fought in my hometown of Pittsburgh so I know the feeling coming into it and the momentum on fight night. I am looking forward to putting on a good show for all the fans in Oklahoma and those watching on ShoBox."

ROCHESTER, N.Y.. (August. 20, 2016) – Undefeated heavyweight prospect Jarrell "Big Baby" Miller won by third-round TKO over veteran Fred Kassi in the ShoBox: Den nye generation main event, Fredag, lever videre SHOWTIME from Rhinos Stadium in Rochester, N.Y..

Following a cagey first round that favored Kassi (18-5-1, 10 KOS), Brooklynite Miller (18-0-1, 16 KOS), turned up the body work and pressure in rounds two and three. After landing 36-of-57 power shots in the third and racking up 30 connects to the body, Kassi retired on the stool between rounds, citing a hand injury. Miller landed an impressive 57 percent of his power shots for the fight and limited Kassi to 22 percent of his hooks, crosses and uppercuts.

Kassi said after the fight that his right hand was injured in the second and pushed through the pain for one more round before giving in.

The 6-foot-4, Miller viciously attacked the body and delivered some big rights and combinations. Kassi had some moments where he out-boxed his opponent, but Miller’s power and size—a possible 50+-pound advantage—was the deciding factor. Med denne sejr, “Big Baby” ups his winning streak to 14 straight.

“I knew it would take some time to get going i aften. I was thinking maybe three or four rounds to warm up and get going. But in the second round, I got my wind and I knew I hurt him,” said Miller, who is ranked among the top 10 heavyweights in three of the four sanctioning bodies. “My legs came alive and I touched his body and his head. I knew I was going to get the stoppage.

“I think he could have continued, selv. He just didn’t want to. That’s why I take my hat off to Deontay Wilder. I still want to break his jaw, but he finished his fight with a broken hand. That’s what champions do. Kassi didn’t want to continue.

“Let’s talk about all these heavyweights. Tyson Fury, he doesn’t want this work. He’s always complaining. He’s always sick or something. I don’t know what’s wrong with him. Wilder, every five minutes he breaks another finger. Se, it’s just a matter of time before these guys are going to have to put up or shut up. Anthony Joshua, that’s going to be a mega fight. I am just begging for him to call my name.”

Kassi said, “I must have hurt my hand in the first round because in the second, every time I hit him I felt a shock. I wanted to keep going but he’s a big guy and I couldn’t use my hand. When you fight a guy that is 50 pounds heavier than you are, you need all the weapons.”

“The size difference and the strength difference was so enormous,” said SHOWTIME Boxing’s veteran analyst Steve Farhood. “Once Miller started rolling, it was clear that Kassi had no answers. Kassi had been nimble and he slid off the ropes a few times in round one. That was gone in round 2. Så, perhaps in some people’s eyes, this win is cheapened by the injury, but to me it was clear that Big Baby was on his way to doing what more advanced heavyweights like Dominic Breazeale and Chris Arreola couldn’t do, and that’s stop Fred Kassi.

“Bottom line, Jarrell Miller’s stock went up i aften. He faced his toughest test and he passed it.”

I co-main event, promising Louisiana lightweight “Rock Hard Mighty” Mason Menard scored a brutal knockout at 2:26 of the ninth-round over battled-testedBaha mamadjonov, winning the WBO NABO Lightweight belt. VIDEO HIGHLIGHT:http://s.sho.com/2b6MNPF

Both Menard and Mamadjonov were facing their most dangerous foe to date. Mamadjonov (18-3, 11 KOS), showed great ring generalship successfully keeping Menard’s output down for the first six rounds, but Menard (32-1, 24 KOS) dramatically turned the fight around with body shots that produced two knockdowns in the seventh. A slow eighth-round followed but the ninth brought another series of power shots leading to the third and final knockdown, prompting referee Steve Smoger to intervene and halt the contest.

At the time of the stoppage Menard, who out-landed Mamadjonov 10-0 in the bout’s final 26 sekunder, was ahead by two points on two scorecards and four points on the third.

"Jeg føler stor, but it was a B-level performance from me,” said Menard who is coming from a knockout-of-the-year candidate, “I could have done better. My opponent was an awkward fighter and we got him with two weeks’ notice.

“I knew if I kept putting the pressure, slowly he would fade and I would take him out in the later rounds and that’s exactly how it happened. He was hurting to the body. I knew after the first couple rounds he was breathing really heavy, so the game plan was to start touching him to the body. It was affecting him greatly.

“I’m definitely excited to get my second SHOWTIME knockout and I got some rounds under my belt. It’s been years since I went that many rounds, so it was good to know I can go that long and still finish strong.”

“I don’t really know what went wrong,” said Mamadjonov, who is known for his high boxing IQ. “It was short notice and I think I lost too much weight.

“I didn’t feel his punches, but he caught me with some good body shots. I was fighting evenly with him until the weight loss caught up to me and I got tired.

“I feel ok now. Jeg er god. I am disappointed but I’m fine. I’ll be back.”

NABO Bantamweight Champion Antonio Nieves, Cleveland, Ohio and Tijuana’s Alejandro Santiago battled to a 10-round split draw (96-94 Nieves, 96-94 Santiago and 95-95) in the second fight of the ShoBox quadrupleheader.

Nieves, (16-0-2, 8 KOS), remains undefeated, but Santiago’s (11-2-2, 3 KOS) boxing ability clearly caught him off guard. The first five rounds featured brisk long-range boxing that was incredibly even. Santiago, a late-sub for Nikolay Potapov, appeared to pull away in rounds 6-10 as he out-landed Nieves 129-86 overall and 100-61 i power stempler.

Winning the late rounds was not enough for Santiago, who was stepping up in weight and opposition. Judge Don Ackerman had Nieves ahead 96-94 while Eric Marlinski had it 96-94 for Santiago. Pasquale Procopio’s 95-95 card proved pivotal. Given Santiago’s second-half surge, the Mexican visitor was unlucky not to get the win.

“I thought it was close, but I think I pulled it out,” said Nieves. “I should have gotten the victory by maybe one or two points. But the judges see what they saw, du ved?

“I do not feel I put on the impressive performance I was hoping to. I wasn’t at my best. Han (Santiago) was a little awkward and my right hand was hurting a little bit, but I really don’t know why I wasn’t letting my hands go like I usually do.

“I learned I have to stick to my game plan and keep using my jab. I didn’t use it like I usually do. I need to just do what I do and not worry about what my opponent is doing.

“I don’t think nerves had anything to do with it, even though it was the biggest fight of my career. I was just letting him get off first. I should have followed my game plan, rather than react to what he was doing. I give myself a C for my performance i aften."

Santiago, who came as a late replacement and was clearly the underdog, also felt he won the fight.

“It was close, men jeg tror, jeg vandt kampen. I was always sure I’d beat him and I did. I landed more punches,” said Santiago. “I thought Nieves would be stronger than he was in there.

“I usually fight at super flyweight. I was coming up in weight to do this. It was an opportunity to open more doors for me and I took it. And I think that’s what I didi aften."

Ved indledningen anfald af telecast, ubesejret weltervægt Bakhtiyar Eyubovaf Brooklyn, N.Y., by way of Kazakhstan won a close 10-round split decision—that could have gone either way—against veteran Karim Mayfield of San Francisco, Calif. (95-94 twice for Eyubov and 95-94 for Mayfield).

Yeyubov (11-0, 10 KOS), who had never been past the third round, was taken to uncharted waters by the more experienced Mayfield (19-4-1, 11 KOS). Mayfield extended Eyubov far longer than any other opponent and despite out-landing the adoptive Brooklynite in each of the final four rounds (110-80 overall and 87-66 magt) Eyubov escaped with a split decision. It was a learning victory for Eyubov and a disheartening loss for Mayfield, who averaged 69 punches per round to Eyubov’s 52.

“I felt it was close, but I did everything I wanted to do and I feel I won nearly every round,” said Eyubov. “I was surprised by Mayfield, especially how hard his head is. He is a real man.

“My lip is a little swollen but that’s because of headbutts. Mayfield fought dirty in there. But I’m happy with the decision. I learned that I can go 10 rounds if I have to. Jeg kunne gå 12. I was still strong at the end of the fight.

Mayfield, who was clearly disappointed with the result, felt he won the fight.

“It was a good fight and he’s a tough fighter for sure, but I landed the harder shots and kept active. Han var en hård fyr, don’t get me wrong, but I certainly won that fight,” said Mayfield. “I feel I performed well. There’s always more work you can do, but for the most part I feel I did good. People thought for some odd reason the fight wouldn’t even go the distance, which is ludicrous. I won the fight though.

“It was part of my game plan to frustrate him and I feel I did that. I executed my plan well. Selvfølgelig, there was more I could have done. I could have thrown more punches, but I did well.

“They made it seem like he punched like hell, but I guess all punches feel hard to me, so if you’re a hard puncher or a light puncher, it’s still a punch and I don’t want to get punched. I got hit but I was never stunned or anything like that.

“I would love a rematch.”

Eyubov responded, “I don’t know if I would fight him again. I will think about it.”
