SANTA FE, NM (September 27, 2016) – Cuba’s Yordenis Ugas (17-3, 8 KOs) defeated his second straight unbeaten welterweight Hnub night as he stopped Bryant Perrella(14-1, 13 KOs) in the fourth round on Premier Boxing Champions TOE-TO-TOE TUESDAYS on FS1 and BOXEO DE CAMPEONES on FOX Deportesin the main event from Buffalo Thunder Resort and Casino in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Ugas defeated previously unbeaten Jamal James in August and dedicated this fight to his friend and fellow Cuban, Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez, who tragically passed away Hnub xyamorning in Miami. Ugas was spectacular from the outset as his first overhand right of the night connected with Perrella and sent him to the canvas.
“The right hand was there early and all night long,” said Ugas. “I was able to land it from the beginning. Then I went to the body. Before I left my corner to start the fight, I said a prayer for Jose, and for sure that was my motivation. I felt his spirit throughout the fight.”
The taller Perrella attempted to control the fight with his jab and looked to land big left hands from the southpaw stance. Ugas was patient throughout the fight and kept his defense tight, never allowing Perrella to break through.
At the end of the third round Ugas landed another big right hand that pushed Perrella into the ropes and forced him into survival mode until the round ended. Perrella tried to get his attack going in the fourth round but Ugas was patiently waiting to deliver powerful counters with the right hand.
Another punishing right hand in the middle of the round sent Perrella hard to the mat and clearly dazed when he rose to his feet. Ugas sensed his moment and attacked Perrella, eventually stalking him into the corner. A final flurry from Ugas forced referee Rocky Burke to halt the bout 2:20 mus rau txoj kab.
“This shows that I’ve put all my losses behind me,” said Ugas. “It doesn’t matter who I fight next. I’m ready for anyone in the division.”
The co-main event saw Ryan “Cowboy” Karl (13-0, 9 KOs) earn a stoppage victory over Jose Quezada (11-1, 6 KOs) after four rounds of action in the super lightweight showdown. The fight was stopped by the ringside doctor after the end of the fourth round.
Karl established his power advantage early on as the two fighters went toe-to-toe but it was Karl who knocked Quezada to the canvas with a stunning right uppercut and a straight right hand that sent his opponent tumbling to the canvas.
Quezada looked to box against Karl and had his best moments in the third round when he began to land his left hook and throw more combinations. Despite taking a few good shots, Karl came out determined in round four and began landing his right hand at will.
The last minute of the round saw the Houston-based fighter landed a series of right hands that eventually began to swell the left eye of Quezada and sent him to the floor for the second time in the fight as the round ended. Quezada was able to get to his feet and return to his corner, but the ringside doctor had seen enough and called a halt to the bout.
The opening televised bout saw Phoenix’s Cesar Alan Valenzuela (13-4-1, 4 KOs) earn a split decision over previously once-beaten Dennis Galarza (13-2, 8 KOs) in their eight round super featherweight attraction.
From the opening bell both men were determined to establish their offense and they both had bright moments in the round. Galarza landed several right hands early but as the fight wore on, Valenzuela got into his offense and was able to keep Galarza going backwards.
Valenzuela also appeared to be the fresher fighter in the later rounds and he ended the bout with a 398-345 advantage in punches thrown and 136-93 in punches landed.
Valenzuela’s strongest round came in the final frame when he stunned Galarza with just over a minute left in the round, forcing his opponent to hold on to survive the eight-rounder. The final judges scores were 77-75 for Galarza and 77-75 twice for Valenzuela.

An undefeated prospect representing Houston, Karl had an excellent amateur career that ended with him ranked third in the nation in the 141-pound division. The 24-year-old won six times in 2015 including an October domination of Alfonso Olvera at the Dancehall in San Antonio. Now he is primed to reach contender status after dominating tough Mexican Luis Solis in June and taking on an undefeated fighter on September 27.
Quezada was born and raised in Chicago and racked up an impressive amateur career by winning three state Silver Gloves championships, three Chicago City-Wide championships, two regional Silver Gloves championships and a 2009 National Junior Golden Gloves championship. The 21-year-old has fought professionally since 2014 and is unbeaten with six knockout victories. Nyob rau hauv 2016 he has already picked up victories over Ariel Vasquez and Cameron Kreal.
From Brooklyn originally but training in Florida, Galarza has won eight straight fights since his lone defeat, including decision victories over Yardley Suarez and Samuel Amoako in 2016. He takes on the 26-year-old Valenzuela who enters this fight on a four-bout winning streak including a win over previously unbeaten Carlos Castillo in November 2015. In his last bout, the 22-year-old DeLoach delivered a sensational knockout over previously unbeaten Dillon Cook in his first bout with new trainer and former world champion Paul Williams. The fighter from Augusta, Georgia turned pro in 2013 and won his first 10 fights before suffering a defeat in early 2015. DeLoach has rebounded masterfully with four wins in a row including victories over veterans Santos Benavides and Todd Manuel.
A 2012 Olympian for his native Dominican Republic, Castillo recorded a significant victory in his last bout when he defeated previously unbeaten and highly regarded Kyrone Davis over eight rounds in April. Castillo turned pro in 2013 and made his U.S. debut in December 2015 with victories over Eduardo Flores and Roland Nagy before his triumph in April.

An exceptional athlete who was highly regarded in track and field as a teenager, the 26-year-old turned pro in 2013. His activity ramped up in 2015 as he took home four victories including a win in his first eight-round bout against Alvaro Ortiz in November.
A National Silver Gloves champion as an amateur, Thomas made it out of the roughest neighborhoods of Chicago and made his professional boxing debut in 2013. After winning his first six pro bouts, all in Chicago, the 23-year-old defeated Farkhad Sharipov in San Antonio in December 2015.

SAN ANTONIO (October 6, 2015) – The main event of Premier Boxing Champions on FS1 and FOX Deportes from Cowboys Dancehall in San Antonio, TX saw Jose Uzcategui (24-1, 20 KOs) stop Julius Jackson (19-1, 15 KOs) 45 seconds into the second round. Uzcategui got off to a blistering start, dropping Jackson three times in the first round. Jackson was never able to regain his footing and the fight was stopped before the midway point in the second round.
The opening televised bout featured Argenis Mendez (23-3-1, 12 KOs) scoring a unanimous decision (99-90, 97-92, 95-94) over Miguel Vazquez (35-5, 13 KOs) in a hard fought battle.
The next edition of Toe-To-Toe Tuesdays will take place on October 13 as Gerald Washington (16-0, 11 KOs) takes on Amir Mansour (22-1, 16 KOs) from Little Creek Casino Resort in Shelton, WA.
Here is what tonight’s fighters said about their performances:
JULIUS JACKSON
“It was a pretty fast start and that was about it. I just got hit and I don’t remember much after that.
“We wanted to control the fight with my jab, but he countered well and hurt me. I never recovered after that.
“I never thought about holding. I was busy working.
“I was trying to pop something in between and got caught.”
JOSE UZCATEGUI
“Our plan was to go round by round, but sometimes opportunities arise. As soon as I saw I hurt him I took advantage. Speed was the key hmo no.
“We didn’t underestimate him at all, but once we saw our advantage after the start I jumped on him.
“I knew that he was a great athlete, and a good fighter, so I came out here and did what I had to do. I know what it’s like to have a stumble in the course of my career though, so I hope he doesn’t get discouraged by this. But hmo no was mine.
“This is everything we’ve been working towards for three months. I want to thank my entire team because they constantly drilled into me that when (Jackson) throws the jab I should immediately shoot the right hand over the top. We knew that the best part of his game was his jab, but we were focused all training camp to throw the right hand and hmo no we were able to do so.”

“I wanted to pressure him a little more. Unfortunately things didn’t turn out the way we planned because we didn’t get the win.
“I feel good, but hmo no (Mendez) was a little more technical than I was.
“It’s an honor to fight on this card. I want to thank Al Haymon. This was huge opportunity for me and my career.”
ARGENIS MENDEZ
“My plan was to be aggressive, use my jab and break him down every round. That’s what I did.
“I was able to land the bigger, cleaner shots throughout the fight.
“He was holding me a lot and using his head. I was trying to do what I could to deal with it, but they were letting him fight.
“I want a world title fight next. From this point on people are going to get used to seeing 100% out of me.”

Two top prospects fighting out of Texas will headline the undercard as Ryan “Cowboy” Karl (8-0, 6 KOs) takes on Alfonso Olvera (4-1, 2 KOs) in six rounds of welterweight action and Stephen Lovett (13-0, 11 KOs) takes on Dustin Echard (11-1, 8 KOs) in an eight-round light heavyweight affair.
The action continues with 21-year-old Houston-native Justin DeLoach (11-1, 6 KOs) in a six-round super welterweight contest and 25-year-old Rickey Edwards (8-0, 3 KOs) out of Paterson, New Jersey in a six round junior welterweight fight.
Additional fights will pit 27-year-old Tony Adeniran (1-0) out of San Antonio against Baton Rouge’s Jonathan Heard (0-1) in a four-round middleweight bout, 20-year-oldCresencio Ramos (4-0, 3 KOs) of San Antonio faces Cesar Martinez (0-6-3) out of Round Rock, Texas in a four round featherweight contest and 24-year-old James Leija Jr. (1-0), son of San Antonio legend Jesse James Leija, taking on 23-year-old L.D. Herbert (0-4) of Houston in a four round junior welterweight showdown.
Rounding out the action is 28-year-old San Angelo, Texas-born Enrique Neira Jr. (3-0) battling 27-year-old Eddie Tigs of San Antonio in a four round super middleweight contest, 23-year-old San Antonio-native Joseph Rodriguez (9-0, 2 KOs) against 30-year-old Californian Jesus Sandoval (5-7-3, 1 KO) in six rounds of super featherweight action, 26-year-old Daniel Baiz (2-0, 2 KOs) of San Antonio facing 30-year-old Laredo, Texas-born Alberto Espinoza (3-7) in a four round junior middleweight scrap and San Antonio’s Ramon Cardenas (1-0) in a four-round super bantamweight bout againstJamie Hernandez (1-3-2) of Killeen, Texas.
A former world champion at 135-pounds, the 28-year-old Vazquez defended his title eight times during his championship reign. After beating Ji-Hoon Kim for his title, he would go on to defend it against the likes of Denis Shafikov, Mercito Gesta, Leonardo Zappavigna and Ammeth Diaz. Fighting out of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, Vazquez most recently dominated Jerry Belmontes on his way to a victory in March.
Born in the Dominican Republic, but fighting out of Brooklyn, Mendez is coming off of a February stoppage over Daniel Evangelista Jr. The 29-year-old won a world title in 2013 when he knocked out Juan Carlos Salgado in the fourth-round. Mendez also owns victories Martin Honorio, Cassius Baloyi and Anthony Napunyi over a career that dates back to 2006.
An undefeated prospect representing Houston, Karl had an excellent amateur career that ended with him ranked third in the nation in the 141-pound division. The 23-year-old has already won four times in 2015 and most recently stopped Malcolm Terry in early September. He is opposed by the 25-year-old Olvera, who was born in Mexico but fights out of Tucson, Arizona.
An Australian fighting out of the U.S. since 2014, Lovett looks to build on the momentum he has gained in 2015 with three knockout victories so far. The 30-year-old’s last triumph came in July when he stopped Jinner Guerrero in the fourth round. Lovett will battle it out with the 29-year-old Echard out of Washington, West Virginia.

Super-Featherweight Phenom Mario Barrios Looks Sensational Knocking Out Torres in Four Rounds

SAN ANTONIO, TX (September 6, 2015) – Super-Featherweight phenomenon, Mario Barrios improved to (11-0, 6 KOs) with another sensational knockout, stopping his opponent Jose Cen Torres, thaum lub 2:10 mark of round four. In the opening round, Barrios used his height and reach to perfection, keeping Torres at bay with a powerful jab. Torres, who was running for dear life, did everything he could to survive. After dominating for the first three rounds, Barrios turned up the heat. In the round four, Barrios came out guns blazing, and landed a double left hook to Torres’ temple, followed by a bruising shot to the liver, ending the bout. With the win, Barrios sees himself as a force to be reckon with in the super-featherweight division.
“This was a good fight for me as I’m on my march for a world title,” said Mario Barrios. “I definitely want to get right back in the gym to start working on some things I know I can improve on. Because Torres was giving me a lot of movement, I had to make some adjustments. Once I figured him out, I know I was going to stop him. CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (Sept. 6, 2015) – Anthony “The Dog” Dirrell (28-1-1, 22 KOs) scored an impressive unanimous decision over Marco Antonio “El Veneno” Rubio (59-8-1, 51 KOs) Hnub xya afternoon in the Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) rau CBS main event from the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.

 

Dirrell proved to be too fast for Rubio as he consistently beat the Mexican veteran to the punch and was able to control the fight. Rubio hung tough throughout the fight, continuing to come forward in his attempts to catch Dirrell.

 

Dirrell won by scores of 100-90 on all three judges scorecards and showed that he still had more left in the tank when he pulled off a backflip in the ring just seconds after the final bell.

 

In the co-main event, Jamie McDonnell (27-2, 12 KOs) used immense pressure to defeat Tomoki “El Mexicanito” Kameda (31-2, 19 KOs) by unanimous decision and retain his bantamweight world title.

 

McDonnell and Kameda went back and forth throughout the 12-round affair that saw McDonnell apply pressure with his consistent jabs while Kameda looked to score with big counters.

 

McDonnell was able to score a knockdown in the final round with a sharp left hook that sent Kameda to the canvas. Kameda and his corner argued that the knockdown should have been ruled a slip, but to no avail. The judges’ scores were 116-11, 115-112 thiab 117-110.

“I had an off night when I fought Badou Jack, but everyone saw my jabs and straight punches. I was moving and I was really catching him.

“I was flat last fight. No excuses. Everyone has their days. You can’t pick and choose, it just happens. Anybody that knows me knows that I don’t fight like that. It’s in the past and I’m ready to fight Rubio.
