Rivalta Inks Puerto Rican Amateur Standout Luis Melendez to Managerial Contract

Fort Lauderdale, Florida-based boxing manager Henry Rivalta proudly announces the signing of 19-year-old featherweight prospect Luis “El Chucho” Melendez to a promotional contract.
A stand-out amateur in Florida and his native Puerto Rico, Melendez will be making his professional debut under the guidance of Rivalta in July.
Born and raised in Bayamon, פּאָרטאַ ריקאָ, Melendez started boxing at age 11. He went on to have 124 ליבהאָבער פייץ, winning a number of Puerto Rican and international titles including the Junior Olympics, Olympic Cup, and the Puerto Rican Nationals from 101 לבס. צו 132 לבס.
Melendez says the managerial deal is the culmination of a long association the pair have held. “When I was about 15, I went to spar at the Mike Tyson Gym in West Palm Beach and I was sparring a pro and Henry saw me. He told me he likes what he sees and since then he’s had his eye on me. Now that I’m reaching my dream of going pro, Henry is the right person to help guide my career.”
A throwback fighter with a style more suited for the professional ranks, Melendez calls his style ‘smart aggressive.’
I have a very pro style. I sit down on my punches. I like to throw combinations a lot. I like to break my opponents down. I like to go to the body. Or, depending on the opponent, I can box you. I can also hit and not get hit when I need to.”
Melendez says training at KO Fitness in Hialeah, פלאָרידאַ, with trainer Michael Robles is going well and he’s excited to get started on his professional career. "איך פילן גרויס. This is my dream. I have always loved the pros. I used to watch and say ‘man I will be there one day.’ I’ve always had that style. I want to win titles in six divisions. I want to be the best pound for pound. I want to be the next face of Puerto Rico.”
“Luis has all the talent to become a world champion,” said Henry Rivalta. “He’s been a stand-out since he was a kid and he’s developed into a very good fighter. I’m happy to finally be working with him in the professionals. I look forward to a long and prosperous relationship with this next great fighter from Puerto Rico.”

Nicaraguan challenging WBO light flyweight champion Tito Acosta

La Batalla, יוני 16
Live on PPV from Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, פּאָרטאַ ריקאָ (יוני 4, 2018) – Nicaraguan challenger קאַרלאָס “ChocorroncitoBuitrago hopes his fifth world title shot, יוני 16 against World Boxing Organization Light Flyweight World Champion Tito Acosta, העאַדלינינג “La Batallato air on pay-per-view, live from the Coliseo de Puerto Rico Center in Hato Rey, פּאָרטאַ ריקאָ.

La Batalla: Acosta vs. Buitrago is presented by Miguel Cotto Promotions, which is owned and operated by the first Puerto Rican boxer to capture world titles in four different weight classes, future Hall of Famer מיגועל קאָטטאָ, and H2 Entertainment, in association with DIRECTV Puerto Rico.

Integrated Sports Media will distribute the La Batalla: Acosta vs. Buitrago card in the United States on cable, satellite and digital pay-per-view via iN Demand, Vubiquity, דערעקטיווי, DISH and live-streamed worldwide (excluding Puerto Rico) אויף די FITE.TV app and website (www.fite.tv), סטאַרטינג בייַ 9 פּ.ם. און / 6 פּ.ם. פּט, פֿאַר אַ סאַגדזשעסטיד לאַכאָדימ פּרייַז פון בלויז $34.95.

WBO #12-rated Buitrago (30-3-1, 17 קאָס) has had four unsuccessful title challenges, losing three times, along with one draw. He was stopped for the first time in his last fight this past December, by undefeated International Boxing Federation (יבף) Minimumweight World Champion Hiroto Kyoguchi (8-0), in the eighth round of their title fight in Japan.

All three of (פּיקטשערד צו לינקס) Buitrago’s career losses have been to world champions, including a pair to Thammanooon Niyomtrong (11-0) אין 2016 און 2014, both by way of 12-round unanimous decisions in Thailand for the Interim WBA title. Buitrago also fought a 12-round split draw in 2013 to then-WBO Minimum World Champion Merlito Sabillo (12-0) in Manila, פיליפינען.

אַקאָסטאַ (17-1, 17 קאָס), who will be making his first world title defense against Buitrago, at home in Puerto Rico, captured the vacant WBO title last December at famed Madison Square Garden, ווען ער נאַקט אויס Juan Alejo (24-4-1), of Mexico, אין די 10טה קייַלעכיק.

I’m not at all concerned about fighting Tito Acosta in his country, basically his ‘hood,” Buitrago said. “I’m used to fighting for the world championship in my opponentscountry, just as I did with Merlito Sabillo, but they robbed me of that victory. I’m working consciously and think I’m in great shape to challenge Tito Acosta and seize the championship.

Truth be told, I’m in perfect shape, I will fight a smart fight; if Acosta wants to battle, אַזוי זייַן עס, I’m used to battling hard hitters. If he comes into the ring with the intention to battle, I will fight intelligently.

Naturally, the 26-year-old Buitrago believes his experience advantage will be the difference versus Acosta, allowing him to bring the world title back to Nicaragua, like Puerto Rico, a hotbed for boxing.

I think that this being my fifth world title fight, I have experience on my side,” Buitrago added. “I’m relaxed and ready thanks to the training I’ve had in Nicaragua. I’m not sure what Tito Acosta will bring into the ring June 16. I don’t think Tito Acosta is going to learn the necessary moves and techniques in a month. He is a raw boxer who relies only on the strength of his blows. I don’t believe that he will bring anything new into the ring and if they change him, the only thing that will accomplish is confuse him. I’m always emphasising my preparation. I’m coming in smart because I’m bringing the ability to work round for round. My only objective is to bring the world championship to Nicaragua.

I think’s it’s great initiative on Miguel Cotto’s part to promote new boxing talents. I’m grateful to Miguel Cotto and his team for giving me the opportunity to be the one to challenge Tito Acosta in his first world title defense.

I’m a likeable boxer, people like to watch me fight. I’m known for being a smart fighter that, when fighting is needed, I fight, and when boxing is needed, I box. We work on half and short distance, which is why I believe people like to see me fight. All those who attend or watch on pay per view will enjoy a great fight.
