Unbeaten Heavyweight Gerald Washington Steps in to Face Heavyweight World Champion Deontay Wilder in Main Event of Premier Boxing Champions on FOX & FOX Deportes Saturday, Pebrero 25 From Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama

Televised Coverage Nagsisimula sa 8 p.m. AT/5 p.m. PT
Birmingham, AL (Enero 30, 2017) – Undefeated heavyweight world champion Deontay “Ang Tansong bombero” Wilder (37-0, 36 Kos) will now defend his title against unbeaten contender Gerald “Ang Black tandang” Washington (18-0-1, 12 Kos) sa pangunahing kaganapan ng Premier Boxing Champions sa FOX and FOX Deportes Sabado, Pebrero 25, from Legacy Arena at the BJCC in Birmingham, Alabama.
The opponent change comes after Wilder’s original foe, Andrzej Wawrzyk, tested positive for a banned substance.
I’m very happy to get this opportunity to fight for my first world championship,” Washington said. “I know that I’ll be fighting Deontay Wilder in his backyard, but that adds more excitement to the fight for me. I’m looking forward to going to Birmingham and coming away with a victory just like I did in my last fight there.
Washington, a 34-year-old U.S. Navy veteran who also played tight end and defensive end at the University of Southern California, scored a fourth round knockout over former title challenger Ray Austin in his last fight. It came on the undercard of the same show in Birmingham where Wilder suffered a torn right biceps muscle and fractured his right hand against Chris Arreola on July 16, 2016. Wilder won on a 9ika round TKO, but needed several rounds of surgery to repair the damage and has spent the last six months in rehabilitation.
I was disappointed when Wawrzyk tested positive for a banned substance and wasn’t available to fight. I didn’t want to disappoint my loyal fans in Birmingham, who have always supported me,” Wilder said. “I’m glad Gerald Washington stepped up to the challenge and allowed us to go forward with the show. He’s a tall heavyweight (6-foot-6) with a good jab and the kind of test that I need coming back from surgery on my biceps muscle and my right hand. I’m looking forward to putting on a good show for all my fans.
“Sa kasong ito, losing an opponent has resulted in a much better matchup for fight fans,” Sinabi ni Lou DiBella, Pangulo ng DiBella Aliwan. “Gerald Washington, one of the highest rated American heavyweights, is a huge man and a physical specimen. A U.S. Navy veteran, Washington is a tremendous athlete who played football at USC and was on the practice squads of both the Seattle Seahawks and Buffalo Bills. He’s made a successful transition to boxing, and has been working toward his shot at Deontay Wilder and a heavyweight championship. This is the challenge that Deontay wanted and those that come out to the Legacy Arena or tune into Premier Boxing Champions on FOX and FOX Deportes will be the beneficiaries.
Despite the unfortunate circumstances that have allowed Gerald Washington to have this opportunity, I am confident he will be making the most of it,” said Tom Brown, Pangulo ng TGB Promotions, Washington’s promoter. “Getting to fight a great champion like Deontay Wilder on national television is every fighter’s dream. Pebrero 25 will be a great night for American heavyweights. Gerald is in amazing shape and he’s coming to win.

Washington calls himself “Ang Black tandang” (The Black Rooster) to honor his African-American father and Mexican-American mother. He turned pro in July 2012, following a brief amateur career. He has risen steadily in the ranks after each fight and is now poised to take on the biggest challenge of his professional career. If he defeats Wilder, he will become the first Mexican-American heavyweight world champion.
Televised coverage ay magsisimula sa 8 p.m. AT/5 p.m. PT and features a pair of exciting matchups as rising super welterweight contenders Tony Harrison at Jarrett Hurd meet in a 12-round world title eliminator, plus hard-hitting Dominic Breazeale battles undefeated Izuagbe Ugonoh sa matimbang pagkilos.

Thurman and Garcia were joined by their trainers at the press conference Miyerkulesafternoon at Barclays Center. Narito ang kung ano ang mga kalahok ay upang sabihin:
Keith Thurman
It’s a pleasure to be here again. This is where it’s at. I get the most love out here, since the first time I ever fought here. The fans in New York make me feel like I’ve made it.
“Away na ito Marso 4 has two undefeated champions. Two of the best welterweights going toe-to-toe. Someone’s ‘0’ has to go.
I’m blessed to get this fight because I’ve been asking for it. I’m looking forward to it. We’re working hard down in Florida. You don’t want to miss this fight.
This fight is going to have action. There’s too much on the line. I remember Danny from the amateurs. I applaud him for everything he’s done in this career. He signed the wrong contract though, because Keith Thurman’s got this. Danny Garcia, you’re getting knocked out.
At the end of the day it’s your actions that speak louder than words. We will make our statement on Marso 4. You will know after that night, who the champion truly is.
Angel will talk to try to get people off of their game. Danny is an elite fighter, and he can talk for himself. These father trainers seem to like the limelight as much as the fighter, if not more. Sa katapusan ng araw, I’m only fighting Danny Garcia.
Danny Garcia has some power. He has enough, even compared to me. But if you look at a lot of his fights, he knocked guys down. But they got back up. There is a difference between knockdown and knockout power.
He’s dangerous but we believe I’m more dangerous. He hasn’t fought a true welterweight with punching power. I believe I’ll be the last man standing on Marso 4.
We’ll see what kind of camp he has. If he works hard, then he’ll be geared up for a tough fight. A fighter’s performance is based off of training camp, not any past fights.
He’s a champion and I’m a champion. You will see the results on Marso 4. I’m eager to unify these titles and this should be an exciting fight.
DANNY GARCIA
You know I’m already in shape. I’ve been active and in the gym getting ready. Pakiramdam ko ay mahusay. Ang nasabing Bilang Marso 4, I’m going to be the unified champion again.
This is nothing new to me. I’ve been the underdog in a unification fight. Sa katapusan ng araw, Angel and I, we’re going to come out with a great game plan and get the victory. I will have my hand raised at the end of the night.
I just had to tell Keith to be careful what he wished for. He wanted this fight, but now that he’s got it, you have to deal with me.
I’m going to take this one round at a time to get the victory. Kung ang knockout ay, pagdating. I’m not going out of my element. I’m going to do what I do best.
We’re definitely going to work the body. But we’ll work the head too, wherever we can hit him. We’re just working smart and hard in camp. Nothing is changing from past camps. We’re going to put in work.
I’m excited to fight on CBS. The fans deserve fights to be on free television so that everyone can watch it. I’m excited to unify titles in another division.
At the end of the day he’s a world champion and you have to respect that. He’s nothing I haven’t seen before. I’ve been fighting people like him since I was a little kid in Philadelphia. I’ve been boxing my whole life for this moment. I just have to go in there and make sure I’m ready mentally and physically.
I just have to have tunnel vision on fight night. I’m going to show composure during every round and keep the momentum going my way. If it switches a little bit, then I’ll make adjustments and adapt like a true champion. I’ll be prepared like I always am.
I feel very comfortable at Barclays Center. It’s like another day in the gym with me in here. It’s a fantastic atmosphere. This is the best place in the world to fight and I’m happy to be back.
I hope everyone comes out to Barclays Center on fight night. I know there are a lot of Puerto Ricans in New York and I hope they’re here to support. Barclays Center ay ang aking home away from home.
I just want to make sure I’m mentally and physically ready. If I’m ready, nobody can stop me. We’re going to do what we always do. Put the hard work in, talk a little trash and back it up.
DAN BIRMINGHAM, Thurman’s Trainer
Were here. We’re going to be ready. We’re focused on Danny Garcia. Keith Thurman will be the victor that night and stake his claim as the best in the division.
Danny Garcia is a very good fighter. He’s like a mirror image of Keith Thurman. He boxes well, punches well and has good defense. But he’s facing a kind of fighter that he’s never faced before. Keith Thurman is the most talented welterweight in the world.
Keith will bring the strength. He’s not a built-up welterweight. He comes down to make welterweight from about 170 pounds so we expect size to be an advantage.
ANGEL GARCIA, Garcia’s Father & Tagasanay
Danny was the first man to headline here. Danny holds the attendance record at this venue. We knew Brooklyn was where we wanted to have this fight.
It doesn’t take a genius to figure out where this fight should be. I love this venue and it’s been great to Danny every time he fights here.
Marso 4 you will see the champion of the world, Danny Garcia, become a unified champion. Danny is a great fighter and he won’t be beat.
We’re not the underdog here. Danny is the undefeated champion of the world. Thurman is in for a long night. Maniwala ka sa akin.
Thurman is a good fighter and he’s been around for a long time like Danny. Iginagalang ko sa kanya, but they made him a champion. Danny became a champion, and there is a difference. Danny is a true champion. Marso 4 he will still be undefeated. Thurman won’t have an answer for Danny.
Lou DIBELLA, Pangulo ng DiBella Aliwan
On the heels of what was a tremendous fight card ito Sabado night in this great arena, it’s great to be able to say that it doesn’t get any better than this fight.
Thurman vs. Garcia is the best against the best, which is really what we have to do to elevate our sport to the sport of kings like it once was. We have two kings sitting at this table
It’s a privilege to promote another great PBC card and at Barclays Center in my hometown. Say what you will about what is the cathedral of boxing in the U.S., but I’ll take this building over just about any venue in the world. They have a great commitment to the sport.
In an era where some people think that PPV is a good thing, it’s incredibly important that a fight of this magnitude is on broadcast television. These two champions have the opportunity to do their thing in front of a huge audience. It’s great for boxing.
We’re very proud that 80 percent of the seats in the building are available for between $150 at $49. We want this to be accessible to all boxing fans. That’s a tribute to everyone involved in this event and to serve all these great fans.
BRETT YORMARK, CEO of Brooklyn Sports & Aliwan
Brooklyn Boxing is defined by 50-50 fights, dramatic moments and a regular schedule of big-time boxing events. Last Saturday night was a great start to our 2017 lineup. Every fan left wanting more, and they will get more, sa Marso 4.
We’re talking about world class championship boxing at its best. Marso 4 will be that, at higit pa. This is the best welterweight fight of the year, with two spectacular undefeated fighters.
We are honored to host the welterweight world title unification showdown between Keith Thurman and Danny Garcia. We expect to host the biggest fight night crowd ever at Barclays Center.
Thousands of tickets have been sold for this fight and we are gaining incredible momentum. I’m looking forward to a great night on Marso 4. Buy your tickets now. This is going to be one of those moments at Barclays Center that you need to circle on your calendar.
Stephen ESPINOZA, Executive VP & General Manager, Showtime Pampalakasan
This is truly an event that doesn’t need to be sold. I am here to share that this fight will be the second installment of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING on CBS. The obvious question is why? It’s because this fight merits it. As we saw sa Sabado, when the best fight the best, the results are often spectacular.
It’s not a surprise that we get impressive results when elite fighters take on other elite fighters. Special things happen. New fans are created and rivalries are born.
Danny Garcia and Keith Thurman are the two best welterweight in the world. End of story. They will fight on Marso 4, it will be a huge audience here at Barclays and on CBS and it will be a special night.

Here is what Lara had to say about Foreman, training camp with Ronnie Shields and more:
On his recent training camp
We just wrapped up about a week and we got some good rest during fight week. Training camp has been very productive. I’m comfortable with my weight and I feel strong going into this fight. My strength and conditioning is right where I want it. Ronnie and I are always polishing up on the things I do well. Pangkalahatang, it’s been a great camp.
On facing former world champion Yuri Foreman
I’m grateful to Yuri Foreman for accepting this fight. I know he’s hungry to get back in the ring. He wants to prove that he’s still relevant in the super welterweight division. He’s a former world champion who knows what it’s like to win at the elite level. I’m not looking past Yuri Forman, but I’m very confident I’ll be victorious. I feel I’m going to be the superior fighter when we both step in the ring bukas gabi.”
On returning to Miami to fight in front of a large Cuban community
My last fight here was amazing and the fan support was unbelievable. I got the knockout and I’m hoping to do the same again. If I see my opponent hurt, I’ll be looking to take him out. I love my Cuban countrymen and all their support, as well as my American fans. Miami is like a second home to me and I can’t wait to give the fans a great show.
On the state of the super welterweight division
The division, sa palagay ko, is the most talented division in boxing. Everyone at the top is looking to cement their legacy in boxing history and everyone is spectacular. In the future, we will all have to face each other at some point. Kaya, expect some unification bout to be presented, and may the best man rise to the top. I know I’m ready to fight everyone, but first I must get past Foreman.
On fighting in the main event on Spike
Fighting on Spike, bilang ang pangunahing kaganapan, is going to fantastic. The exposure is wonderful for any athlete competing on their network. Boxing is a great sport, and Spike TV is helping us gain more fans with their viewers. The PBC is doing an excellent job. I’m very happy to be fighting on network television.

ERISLANDY LARA
Thank you everyone for coming, especially Spike TV and Hialeah Park. Thanks to Team Foreman for taking this fight. Ito ay pagpunta sa maging isang mahusay na labanan Biyernes gabi.
Yuri Foreman is a great fighter and a very smart fighter. I am also a very smart fighter, kaya Biyernes night we’re going to find out who is the smarter one in the ring.
“Pakiramdam ko ay mahusay. Very happy to be back in Miami in front of my Cuban and Latin fans. This is a great night for Miami and Spike and I plan on putting on a show and making a statement to the boxing world.
“Pakiramdam ko ay mahusay. I’m in great shape and feel very strong. I’m ready to fight right now. I just want the bell to ring.
YURI FOREMAN
It’s great to be here in Miami where it’s nice and warm and with so many great fighters on this card. I’m ready and looking forward to Biyernes. I came here to win and I feel very positive about this.
Erislandy Lara is a great fighter, but me being from the Soviet Union, I’m very familiar with Cuban boxing and have quite a bit of experience with their style, so I’m looking forward to stepping in and showcasing my talents and skills.
Being a rabbi, it is sometimes very interesting to mix that with fighting, pero Biyernes night I won’t be in rabbi mode. I will be all fighter. We are going to show skills and heart and power sa Biyernes gabi.”
ANTHONY DIRRELL
I think this is my third Spike event and I’m happy to be fighting on a show with two great fighters like Lara and Foreman.
It’s going to be a hell of a show. We are going to put on a great show. All the fights on the card are tremendous fightsundefeated fighters fighting undefeated fighters and champions fighting champions and we are all coming to win.
I was going to talk a lot of trash to him (Nemespati), but he can’t understand me anyway. I am looking forward to a great fight against a good opponent like him. Tiyakin na ikaw tune in sa Biyernes and catch the action!”
NORBERT NEMESAPATI
I am coming in as the smaller fighter, so I will have to put a lot of pressure on him. I sparred a lot of rounds for this fight, with a lot of tall guys. That’s fine with me that he is taller because I love to punch to the body.
I might never get another opportunity like this, so I have to make the most of it. This is a beautiful place and I’m coming to the ring to win big. Thank you for this very special opportunity.
MIGUEL CRUZ
I wish that Alex Martin was here so I could talk a little smack to his face.
“13-0, 11 KOs vs. 13-0, 5 Kos… basically somebody’s ‘0’ has to go and I can give you a hintit’s not going to be mine.
I’m going to crush him like an ant with a sledgehammer. I’m going to destroy him. That’s the plan. Huwag palampasin ang mga ito.”

Frampton conquers the world as PBC’s Fighter of the Year

Carl Frampton already was a world champion at the start of this year, but his accomplishments in 2016 placed him at the top of the entire boxing universe.
The 29-year-old native of Belfast, Northern Ireland, reached a level of success this year that most boxers could only dream about, traveling to two countries to win world titles in two weight divisions against a pair of undefeated champions-with the second victory coming in a Fight of the Year contender.
Reaching such heights made Carl Frampton (23-0, 14 Kos) an overwhelming unanimous decision by the staff of Premier Boxing Champions as PBC’s Fighter of the Year.
I’m in this game to win fights and to win titles,” Frampton said, “but when you’re picking up awards like Fighter of the Year when there are so many good fighters around, obviously it’s a huge achievement, and I’m very, very grateful.
Other fighters considered for the award were Jermall Charlo, Robert Easter Jr. at Keith Thurman. All three world champions had tremendous years of their own, but none achieved more in the squared circle in 2016 than Frampton.
“Ang gumawa ng mahirap na trabaho” opened the year on Pebrero 27 sa pamamagitan ng taking on fellow 122-pound world champion Scott Quigg in a title unification bout on the Englishman’s home turf at Manchester Arena.
Although the bout took several rounds to heat up, the 5-foot-5 Frampton initiated most of the action as he worked effectively behind his jab and landed the cleaner punches throughout the fight.
Even though the highly anticipated contest took place just 15 miles from Quigg’s hometown of Bury, Lancashire, much of the sellout crowd of 21,000 voiced their support for Frampton, who broke Quigg’s jaw on his way to gaining a split decision just six days after his 29th birthday.
I’m absolutely delighted to have won. Over the moon,” Frampton said after two of the judges gave him a 116-112 edge and the third scored it 115-113 for Quigg. “The fight went very much to plan, and I thought I had won it by quite a distance. I’m really surprised one judge gave it to him.
Rather than defend his 122-pound titles, Frampton elected to relinquish them and move up in weight. Not only that, he immediately went after one of the best 126-pound fighters in the world, traveling to Brooklyn, New York, sa Hulyo 30, when he challenged unbeaten 126-pound world champion Leo Santa Cruz for his title at Barclays Center.
The bout was electrifying almost from the opening bell as both fighters attempted to press the action. Sa pangalawang ikot, Frampton sent Santa Cruz staggering backward into the ropes with a short left hook to the temple to gain the early edge.
Although he never did knock down the champion, Frampton continually beat Santa Cruz to the punch, landing perfectly placed counter shots as he fired from all angles to thwart the Mexican-American’s high-volume attack.
Frampton, who was competing for just the second time in the United States, won the Fight of the Year candidate by majority decision, earning winning scores of 117-111 at 116-112, while the third judge surprisingly had it even at 114-114.
The victory made Frampton just the second Irishman after Steve Collins to win world titles in two weight divisions, and the first from Northern Ireland.
Frampton now has a chance to get an early jump on 2017 Fighter of the Year honors with a rematch against Santa Cruz set for Enero 28 sa MGM Grand Garden Arena sa Las Vegas.
I never ever thought I would win a world title in two different weight divisions when I turned professional,” Frampton said.
The goal was to become world champion-and to win a second world title, it’s a bonus really. … 2016 couldn’t have went any better if I’m being honest.

Thurman vs Porter topples all comers as PBC’s Fight of the Year

via PremierBoxingChampions.com
It was a fight that was as competitive as it was engaging, a championship bout in which both participants put it all on the line until the final bell sounded. Sa katapusan, there would be only one winner in the world title fight between Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter, but there certainly was no loser.
Keith Thurman bagsak Shawn Porter by unanimous decision to retain his 147-pound world championship at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, sa Hunyo 25 in a back-and-forth battle between two fighters in the prime of their careers.
Considering the importance and the competitive quality of the bout, Thurman vs Porter was selected by the staff of Premier Boxing Champions as PBC’s Fight of the Year for 2016.
The Thurman-Porter showdown edged out a thrilling cast of contenders that included Leo Santa Cruz vs Carl Frampton, Adonis Stevenson vs Thomas Williams Jr. at Robert Easter Jr. vs Richard Commey.
Although Thurman won by identical scores of 115-113 from all three ringside judges, the discrepancy in arriving at the final result showed just how even the fight truly was. The judges were in complete agreement on just six of the 12 round (giving four to Thurman), and the six disputed rounds were split down the middle for each fighter.
Also underscoring the competitiveness of those 12 rounds is the fact Porter landed just one more total punch (236-235) than Thurman, although the champ connected with more of his power shots (203-177).
Thurman-Porter was the first prime-time fight on CBS since Leon Spinks defeated Muhammad Ali in February 1978, and it proved worthy of the big stage as it gained a peak audience of nearly 4 milyong mga tumitingin.
The fight didn’t take long to heat up as Porter bulled his way inside in the early rounds against Thurman, who relied on his footwork and counterpunching in his attempts to neutralize the former world champion.
Thurman finally broke through with some big shots in the closing seconds of Round 3, landing with both hands while backed against the ropes. He rocked Porter again late in the fourth with a pair of left hooks to gain the early advantage.
Porter roared back and controlled the next three rounds as he used his physical approach to work effectively inside. Then he tagged Thurman in Round 8 with a potent left hook to the body that caused the champ to retreat so he could recover.
The bout reached a crescendo in the ninth and 10th as the longtime friends engaged in consecutive Round of the Year candidates in which they stood toe-to-toe and exchanged leather with unrelenting ferocity.
Although there were no knockdowns, the intense competitiveness and ebb and flow of the fight made it an instant classic.
While there is no guarantee of a rematch since Thurman is now scheduled for a Marso 4 title unification bout against unbeaten Danny Garcia, the prospect of a Thurman-Porter II is certainly a welcome one.
I would give him a rematch,” Sinabi Thurman. “Iyon ay isang mahusay na paglaban. He was a great opponent.
Said Porter: “We need that rematch. I know the fans want that rematch. … If he gives me another chance, I’m going to work hard and [oras na ito] leave with his title.
