Undefeated Julian Sosa ready for 1st headlining fight Tomorrow night in Brooklyn

Poj vaj, New York (Lub peb hlis ntuj 9, 2018) – Undefeated welterweight Julian Sosa will be featured in his 1st main event tag kis night when he takes on once-beaten Wilmer Rodriguez at the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, New York.

The eight-round bout will headline a Evander Holyfield Real Deal Boxing event.
Sosa is managed by El Matador Management.
Sosa, who will be fighting in front of his hometown fans in Brooklyn is very enthusiastic to be on the top of the bill.
“Learning that I was the main event gave me some extra motivation as I would down my camp,” said Sosa, who has a record of 10-0-1 nrog 3 knockouts.
“Being that this is my 1st fight this year, It means more that I am headlining.”
“This has been my longest camp. I have been working very hard for seven weeks, and I am more than ready for Hnub vas xaum.”
Sosa is just starting to round into professional career, and he feels the best is yet to come.
“It has been quite a journey . It took me a few fights to transition from amateurs to the professionals. I had never fought without headgear. It took me about four fights to get used that and some of the other little things that are different. I am now very comfortable and settled in as a professional.”
In Rodriguez, he is facing a tough veteran, who has a record of 9-1, with his only loss coming to world champion Abner Mares.
“I have seen a few videos of him. He is a counter puncher with a “Philly Shell” defense. He stands in place, and he looks to counter.”
Sosa is looking to put on a show for his fans that he has not performed in front of since winning a four-round unanimous decision over Erick Martinez on October 14th at Barclays Center.
“I am sorry that it has been five months since my last fight. I need a break, I have been fighting a lot. I am back and I am ready to roll. This is my first eight-round bout, and I am the main event. This is a clean start of the year, and I am ready to open eyes.”

New York’s Premier Amateur Boxing Tournament “New York Metro Qualifier: The Road to the Garden” Opens with a Bang!

Lub peb hlis ntuj 7, 2018 – New York, NY – Competitors and fans alike braved the elements as Mother Nature’s “bomb cyclone” struck the area, selling out the first two nights of Metro’s The Road to the Garden event. World champion Iran Barkley and five-time Golden Gloves champion David Villar were among the luminaries witnessing the events, along with former New York State Athletic Commissioner Melvina Lathan. Yonkers PAL saw ten exciting bouts in the 152 pound (welterweight) Novice class, with nine going to a decision and one stopped by the referee:

USA Boxing Metro Announces Opening Night for “The New York Metro Qualifiers: The Road to the Garden” at Yonkers PAL

NEW YORK, NY – Lub peb hlis ntuj 1, 2018 – Teb chaws USA Boxing, Metro (“Metro”) opens the 2018 New York Metro Qualifiers on March 1st at Yonkers PAL, located at 127 North Broadway in Yonkers. Qhov rooj yuav qhib rau 6 PM. Boxing fans will not only experience some of the best amateur boxing in the world, they will also have the opportunity to mix and mingle with boxing stars and boxing world notables. Proceeds will help send Qualifiers champions to the National Golden Gloves in Omaha, Nebraska in May.
“We are excited to start our tournament at one of Metro’s member gyms that produced boxers such as Golden Gloves champ Sean Daughtry and Golden Gloves and professional champion Douglas Gray,” said USA Boxing, Metro’s Interim President, and world champion boxer, Sonya Lamonakis. “The site of many exciting boxing shows, fans feel like they’re in the ring with the boxers, competing for the coveted championships of each weight class. USA Men’s And Women’s Wrestlers To Compete At New York City’s South Street Seaport May 17 for Beat the Streets Annual Benefit

Select American Stars To Take On International Squad At Newly-Renovated Pier 17 In Ninth Annual Event; Youth Wrestlers And High School Wrestlers Take The Mat; Benefit Celebration Follows

 

 

 

 

 

NEW YORK– Beat the Streets Wrestling, Inc. and USA Wrestling announced today that the men’s and women’s national wrestling teams of the United States will again compete in their annual benefit event on Hnub plaub, Tej zaum 17, but at a new location: South Street Seaport at Pier 17. The squads will take on international-level wrestlers from nations to be determined in the eighth annual wrestling celebration. Competitors for Team USA, which will likely include members of the 2016 Olympic team and 2017 World Championships team as well as other elite stars, and their opponents will be announced in the coming weeks.

 

 

 

 

 

“We are excited to celebrate the best of wrestling at the newly-renovated Pier 17 at South Street Seaport,” said Beat the Streets Chairman of the Board Mike Novogratz. “The Beat the Streets matches have annually been a fantastic showcase for the sport and its international appeal.”

 

 

 

 

 

This year will mark the first time that Beat the Streets has held its annual event at South Street Seaport. Nyob rau hauv 2013, the event dubbed “The Rumble on the Rails,” was hosted in historic Grand Central Terminal and featured dual meets between Team USA, Russia and Iran. Playing an important role in the international Keep Olympic Wrestling effort, this historic wrestling event gained international media coverage and helped wrestling retain its status on the Olympic Games program.

 

 

 

 

 

The world-class competition had been hosted in Times Square six previous times. Nyob rau hauv 2011, the United States defeated World Champion Russia, 5-2, the first sports event ever held in historic Times Square. Nyob rau hauv 2012, another U.S. vs. Russia dual meet was held in Times Square, along with the U.S. Olympic Team Wrestle-off for the 60 kg/132 lbs. position on the U.S. Olympic Team in men’s freestyle. Nyob rau hauv 2014, Team USA defeated a World All-Star Team in Times Square, 8-3. Nyob rau hauv 2015, “Salsa in the Square” featured a meeting between Team USA and Team Cuba in the three Olympic styles, held shortly after the historic change in USA and Cuban political relations. Nyob rau hauv 2017, the US met Iran in a dual meet in Times Square as a preview to the 2016 Olympic Games. Finally, last year, Team Japan provided the opposition in a spirited competition at Duffy Square.

 

 

 

 

 

This will be the ninth straight year in which a major international-style wrestling competition will be hosted as part of the Beat the Streets Benefit activities. Nyob rau hauv 2010, an all-star challenge featuring top U.S. wrestlers was held on the USS Intrepid, an aircraft carrier docked on the west side of Manhattan.

 

 

 

 

 

Top Beat the Streets youth wrestlers will take the mat showcasing their skills in exhibition matches beginning at 3:00 p.m. to kick off the NYC Benefit. For the third straight year, the Benefit will feature the PSAL Girls Freestyle Dual Meet Championships finals, showcasing the two top New York City girl’s freestyle wrestling high school teams from the spring girl’s freestyle season. Then it’s Team USA vs. an international squad at 6:00 p.m. with video highlights and special guest appearances followed by the Beat the Streets Benefit Celebration.

AMATEUR GOLD WILL BE UP FOR GRABS AT NEF 33 IN PORTLAND

Portland, Maine (Lub ob hlis ntuj 7, 2018) – New England Fights (NEF) returns to Aura in Portland onTim 14, 2018 with the fight promotion’s next mixed-martial-arts event, “NEF 33: Riptide.” Earlier today, NEF announced the addition of an amateur featherweight title bout to the card. Taylor Costantino (3-3) will meet Shawn Lunghi (4-0) for the vacant 145-pound championship.

 

 

 

Taylor Costantino is a native of Long Island, New York where he began his MMA career in 2011 after being crowned a USA and Pan American Sambo champion. After moving to Maine, Costantino continued training and made his NEF debut in early 2016 with a 25-second TKO victory over Frank Johanson (2-2). Currently, he is a member of Evolution Athletix based in Saco.

 

 

 

“I’m very excited to fight in Portland against a tough opponent,” said Costantino. “I’ve never taken an easy opponent, and this fight is no different. I have a lot to prove to my coaches, my teammates and myself – and a man with something to prove is a dangerous man.”

 

 

 

Undefeated Shawn Lunghi has been dominant in two previous NEF cage appearances. The Florida native first traveled north in the fall of 2016, scoring a second round submission of Alex Clark (4-2). Last weekend, Lunghi returned to take on Devin Corson (1-1). It took just over a minute for Lunghi to pull out another submission win on Maine soil. He will have little time to rest after the upcoming battle at “NEF 33.” In late April, Lunghi will leave for Fort Bliss, and from there will travel to Afghanistan in May as part of his service in the Army National Guard.

 

 

 

“I couldn’t be more excited to return to the NEF cage for NEF 33 and take a shot at the featherweight title,” said Lunghi. “Taylor is an experienced, game opponent and I expect he will be ready for a war. This will be my last fight for awhile as I will be deploying with the Army National Guard for the next year, but I can’t think of a better send off then to win the 145-pound title and celebrate with my RMNU team in Portland, Maine.”

NEW YORK (Lub ob hlis ntuj 1, 2018) – Former New York State Athletic Commission Chairperson Ron Scott Stevens has been an all-purpose performer in boxing for five decades and the Brooklyn native has direct connections with most of the other 22 Class of 2018 inductees heading into the New York State Boxing Hall of Fame (NYSBHOF).
The seventh annual NYSBHOF induction dinner will be held Hnub xya afternoon (12:30-5:30 p.m. LI), Tim 29, nyob Russo lub ntawm lub Bay hauv Howard Beach, New York.
“This is a great honor,” Stevens said about his induction into the NYSBHOF. “When I look back, which this award forces you to do, it dawned on me that I’ve spent more than a half-century in the world of professional boxing. More importantly, I met and worked with many terrific, interesting people who colored my life, filling voids where many existed. Boxing is an enormous family of like-minded people, all desirous of winning but most gracious in defeat.”

Many years ago, Stevens rolled the dice, giving up his job as a waiter and deciding to go all-in in terms of boxing, and over the course of time he has served in almost every conceivable area of boxing as an administrator, promoter, matchmaker, editor, writer, ring announcer, blow-by-blow TV announcer, producer, and radio show host.
“I figured boxing was the sport of underdogs and I was an underdog,” Stevens explained. “So, why not try boxing? The great thing about boxing is it allows somebody like me an open spot. Nobody is really born into boxing, other than the son of a boxer or, somebody like that/. It’s the beauty of boxing.

“I love Bobby Goodman and I knew his father,” Stevens remarked. “I was promoting shows at the Pennsylvania Hotel and right across the street Bobby was the Madison Square Garden matchmaker. We became very close. I promoted shows or did matchmaking for Al Cole, Luis Del Valle and Jake Rodriguez, Herb Goldman acted in my play about boxing, I promoted two of Pete Brodsky’s fighters, met Dave Anderson through Gerry Cooney, and knew when I assigned Melvina Lathan as a judge that she would reflect what went on in the ring because she was an excellent judge. I’m thrilled to be inducted into the New York State Boxing Hall of Fame with members of this class.”
Each attending inductee (or direct descendant of) will receive a custom-designed belt signifying his or her induction into the NYSBHOF.

In Younan, Ellis has an idea on what his foe will bring to the ring on FEB. 2.

“I know he is a young and undefeated fighter,” Nws hais. “I have been reading some things where he says he is going to bring the fight to me. He seems like he likes to talk a lot, but that doesn’t do anything come fight night.”

This will be the third ShoBox appearance for Ellis, as he is coming off an eight-round unanimous decision over Christopher Brooker last January. Ellis feels that his big fight resume will be the key against Younan.

“My experience will definitely be an advantage,” Ellis said. “I have been here on ShoBox two times before. I will be relaxed and comfortable as we approach the fight. This is his first time. I expect him to be real hyper.”

“This is a natural progression for me. I went from fighting on the undercard of ShoBox, and now I am the main event. A win will get me world ranked and hopefully catapult me into theHnub vas xaum night fights on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING. I know I can’t look ahead. I need to win first.”

The gala event was held Russo’s On The Bay in Howard Beach, New York, thiab David Diamante once again served as the event’s Master of Ceremonies.
