(פעברואַר 11, 2017) – Central New England (Greater Lowell) division champions in the open and novice divisions were crowned last night in the final round of the 71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium. Fans braved the frigid cold weather to support the amateur boxers.
Winners will advance to the semifinals of the New England Tournament of Champions, also held at Lowell Auditorium, אָנהייב next Thursday night with novice division. See the remaining 2017 schedule of events below as well as last night’s complete results.

Lowell, מאַסע. (פעברואַר 3, 2017) – Fourteen exciting matches were held last night in the semifinals round of the 71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship, Central New England (Greater Lowell) אָפּטייל, at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
The open and novice championship finals will be held next Thursday נאַכט (פעברואר. 9) at Lowell Memorial Auditorium with men’s and women’s matches. See the remaining 2017 schedule of events below as well as last night’s complete results.
Last night’s action included nine novice division semifinals matches, eight men’s and one women’s, as well as four open men’s matches. Two of the open matches featured final competitions (not semifinals like the others) as Boston light heavyweight Taylor Mears, representing The Ring gym, stopped Nahua’s (נה) John Xifaris אין די רגע קייַלעכיק, and North Chelmsford lightweight Brandon Higgins edged Dorchester’s Jonathan Depina on points, 3-2.
Gloucester’s Gedney brothers, מידדלעוועיגהץ אַדריען און Henry, both won last night, shutting out their opponents (5-0), ריספּעקטיוולי, James Marino, פון מעדפאָרד, און Furcy Ferreras, of Peabody. The Gedneys will not fight each other next in next Thursday’schampionship final of the novice super middleweight division. They will decide which brother will advance and last night’s opponent of the twin that isn’t advancing, Marino or Ferreras, will advance.
Arguably the most action-packed match last night was between lightweights Jeremiah Perez, of Lowell, און Edwin Rozon, of Haverhill, in the open division. Perez won on points, 5-0, but the game Rozon kept firing despite being dropped in the second round.

Judges were very busy as all 10 exciting bouts, including a Junior Olympic match and two non-tournament bouts, went the complete distance. Lowell, מאַסע. (פעברואַר 26, 2016) – Western New England dominated the open class finals of the New England Tournament of Champions, part of the 70טה annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship, winning seven of 10 matches last night at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
The eight men’s individual open class winners earned spots on Team New England for the 2016 National Golden Gloves Championships, מייַ 16-21, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Team New England includes two of the top ranked boxers in the country, ליכט כעוויווייט עלוויס פיגועראָאַ and light welterweight Jaime Ortiz Rodriguez (repeat NE champion), both members of N.E. open class team champion from Western NE. “In the last 10 יאָרן,” explained New England Golden Gloves Executive Director Bobby Russo, “we hadn’t been on a good run. Attendance dropped off a little each year. Last year’s horrible weather killed us. דעם יאָר, כאָטש, the excitement was back and attendance was up 30-percent. There was a younger crowd and many novice boxers had good fan bases, which we need to build up every year. We had a lot of good fights and good boxers this year. Boxing is back in Lowell! We had a great season.
“Team New England will be very strong. We have a young team but many of these boxers have a lot of invaluable experience from Junior Olympics competition, from heavyweight on down. I think we have an impressive team that will do very well at The Nationals this year.”
Team champions were Western N.E. in the open class, Central N.E. in the novice class.

The fight card will feature a mix of mixed-martial-arts (ממאַ) and professional boxing bouts. Earlier today, NEF announced the addition of a light-heavyweight contest to the boxing portion of the “נעף 22” קאַמף קאָרט. קראָווסנעקק בוטאַן (0-0-1) איז סקעדזשולד צו פּנים Brandon Montella (3-0, 2 קאָס) in a four-round bout.

 

קראָווסנעקק בוטאַן, a regular on NEF MMA cards since 2012, made his professional boxing debut earlier this month on the “נעף 21” event in Lewiston. He fought Joel Bishop (0-0-2) to a draw in an exciting slugfest that had the Colisée crowd on the edge of its collective seat. Boutin, considered the underdog in that bout, expertly worked his jab to control the first two rounds of the fight. Like the Bishop match, Boutin is preparing for another war with Montella on אַפּריל 23.

 

“Brandon is a very tough opponent,” האט באָוטין. “He’s going to present me with many obstacles. My training is grueling and I’ll be prepared for a war.”

 

Brandon Montella is a 1998 graduate of Carrabec High School in North Anson, מיין. Following graduation, Montella joined the United States Marine Corps (וסמק) and served until 2003 with an honorable discharge. Montella worked in construction in Virginia until 2011 when he moved with his wife to the Boston, Massachusetts area. He owns and operates The Way, LLC boxing gym in Woburn, מאַססאַטשוסעטץ.

 

“Coming back home from to Maine after all these years to fight in a place of such history is an amazing feeling,” said Montella. “It will bring my friends and family from the past and the present together under one roof for an awesome event.”

 

Montella had a very successful amateur boxing career with a final record of 14-7. אין 2011, he won the prestigious Rocky Marciano Tournament. (פעברואַר 21, 2016) – The best amateur boxers in New England will compete this coming week in the open class semifinals and finals of the New England Tournament of Champions, part of the 70טה annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship, דעם מיטוואך (פעברואר. 24) and Thursday (פעברואר. 25) evenings, ריספּעקטיוולי, at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
Tickets for the New England Tournament of Champions open class semifinals and finals are available to purchase, סטאַרטינג בייַ $17.00 for each event, by calling the Lowell Memorial Auditorium box office at 1.866.722.8881 or order online at www.LowellMemorialAuditorium.מיט. Student tickets are also available for only $7.00 (student ID required).
Proceeds from the Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship go towards sending the New England Golden Gloves champions to the National Golden Gloves Championship (2016 in Salt Lake City, Utah), in addition to supporting local athletes and area gyms, the Boys & Girls Club, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, cancer funds, scholarships and many other great charitable causes.
Keeping with tradition, drawings for the semifinals will not be held until this Tuesday night. Winners in the semifinals will advance to the finals. At stake is a spot on Team New England for the 2016 National Golden Gloves Championships, מייַ 16-21, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
