LOWELL, Hmota. (Február 11, 2017) – Central New England (Greater Lowell) division champions in the open and novice divisions were crowned last night in the final round of the 71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium. Fans braved the frigid cold weather to support the amateur boxers.

LOWELL, Hmota. (Február 3, 2017) – Fourteen exciting matches were held last night in the semifinals round of the 71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship, Central New England (Greater Lowell) divízia, at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
The open and novice championship finals will be held budúci štvrtok noc (Február. 9) at Lowell Memorial Auditorium with men’s and women’s matches. See the remaining 2017 plán udalostí nižšie, rovnako ako kompletné výsledky včerajšieho večera.
Last night’s action included nine novice division semifinals matches, eight men’s and one women’s, as well as four open men’s matches. Two of the open matches featured final competitions (not semifinals like the others) as Boston light heavyweight Taylor Mears, representing The Ring gym, stopped Nahua’s (NH) John Xifaris v druhom kole, and North Chelmsford lightweight Brandon Higgins edged Dorchester’s Jonathan Depina na body, 3-2.
Gloucester’s Gedney brothers, strednej váhy Adrien a Henry, both won last night, shutting out their opponents (5-0), príslušne, James Marino, z Medford, a Furcy Ferreras, of Peabody. The Gedneys will not fight each other next in next Thursday’schampionship final of the novice super middleweight division. They will decide which brother will advance and last night’s opponent of the twin that isn’t advancing, Marino or Ferreras, will advance.
Arguably the most action-packed match last night was between lightweights Jeremiah Perez, of Lowell, a Edwin Rozon, of Haverhill, in the open division. Perez won on points, 5-0, but the game Rozon kept firing despite being dropped in the second round.

LOWELL, Hmota. (Január 27, 2017) – The red-hot action continued in last night’s quarterfinals round of the 71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship of the Central New England (Greater Lowell) division as men’s and women’s open and novice matches were held in front of another great and exceedingly loud crowd at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
Judges were very busy as all 10 exciting bouts, including a Junior Olympic match and two non-tournament bouts, went the complete distance. Individual standouts included a pair of open division boxers, welterweight Michael Fontanez, of Nashua (N.H.), and Methuen (MA) middleweight Yarmarco Guzman. A representative of Nashua, PAL, Fontanez is a slick, hard hitting southpaw who shutout, 5-0, a very tough Kenny Larson, of Salem (MA). Guzman, boxing out of Canal Street Gym, looked like a veteran boxer on his way to a 5-0 shutout win over Lowell’s Julien Baptiste.

LOWELL, Hmota. (Február 26, 2016) – Western New England dominated the open class finals of the New England Tournament of Champions, part of the 70th annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship, winning seven of 10 matches last night at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
The eight men’s individual open class winners earned spots on Team New England for the 2016 National Golden Gloves Championships, Máj 16-21, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Team New England includes two of the top ranked boxers in the country, light heavyweight elvis Figueroa and light welterweight Jaime Ortiz Rodriguez (repeat NE champion), both members of N.E. open class team champion from Western NE. Burlington, MA featherweight Amanda Pavone captured her sixth NE. názov.
“In the last 10 leta,” explained New England Golden Gloves Executive Director bobby Russo, “we hadn’t been on a good run. Attendance dropped off a little each year. There was a younger crowd and many novice boxers had good fan bases, which we need to build up every year. We had a lot of good fights and good boxers this year. Boxing is back in Lowell! “Team New England will be very strong. We have a young team but many of these boxers have a lot of invaluable experience from Junior Olympics competition, from heavyweight on down. I think we have an impressive team that will do very well at The Nationals this year.”
Team champions were Western N.E. in the open class, Central N.E. in the novice class.

Proceeds from the Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship go towards sending the New England Golden Gloves champions to the National Golden Gloves Championship, in addition to supporting local athletes and area gyms, the Boys & Girls Club, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, cancer funds, scholarships and many other great charitable causes.

The semifinals of the New England Tournament of Champions, as well as three final matches in the N.E. novice division, were held last night in Lowell. See complete results below as well as the bout sheet for dnes večer.

SECOND PRO BOXING BOUT ANNOUNCED FOR NEF 22

Crowsneck Boutin, a regular on NEF MMA cards since 2012, made his professional boxing debut earlier this month on the “NEF 21” event in Lewiston. Boutin, considered the underdog in that bout, expertly worked his jab to control the first two rounds of the fight. Like the Bishop match, Boutin is preparing for another war with Montella on Apríl 23.

 

“Brandon is a very tough opponent,” povedal Boutin. “He’s going to present me with many obstacles. My training is grueling and I’ll be prepared for a war.”

 

Brandon Montella is a 1998 graduate of Carrabec High School in North Anson, Maine. Following graduation, Montella joined the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and served until 2003 with an honorable discharge. Montella worked in construction in Virginia until 2011 when he moved with his wife to the Boston, Massachusetts area. He owns and operates The Way, LLC boxing gym in Woburn, Massachusetts.

 

“Coming back home from to Maine after all these years to fight in a place of such history is an amazing feeling,” said Montella. “It will bring my friends and family from the past and the present together under one roof for an awesome event.”

 

Montella had a very successful amateur boxing career with a final record of 14-7. V 2011, he won the prestigious Rocky Marciano Tournament. Montella went on to win the New England Golden Gloves the following year. Obrátil sa na v 2015 and has won his first three bouts with two finishes.
