Whakangungu ahau i roto i Farmington, Maine me te Mētara i raro i Brianne Genschel me Heta Harris. Kua Hoani Kua he taua tauira mīharo me te hoa ki ahau, me ana whawhai katoa. He mīharo tangata katoa i ngā kura e rua whakangungu ahau i a he te hunga e tohutohu nui.

“He te whāinga taua tangata katoa i Tuatahi Class MMA me e he ki te riro,” Tonu Gulliver. “But what separates First Class from any other gym is that everyone will sacrifice their needs and goals to help you win. What is so unique about First Class MMA is that any gym can teach you to fight, engari ki te Class Tuatahi, Te haapii John ngakau koutou. Titiro noa i te mahi whakamutunga Class Tuatahi i NEF. Ko e ngakau ko. We’re looking to do the same this time around. John Raio is a class act. Te ia he toa kore anake te kaiako ranei, Whakaaro hoki ahau ki a ia he hoa nui. E kore e Hoani e korero ki noa koe ki te mahi i te tahi, ka meatia e ia ki a koutou. Ki te sweating koe, he’s sweating—and that goes back to my statement that our school has heart. Kakau reira katoa i to tatou kaiako, Hoani.”

“E rua nga kupu, John Ray,” said Velado when asked to differentiate First Class from other gyms he has trained at. E kore ahau e whai ki te korero ki a koutou te mea i te workhorse ko ia, and that work ethic is something that has translated well as a coach. It’s no surprise to most that John has been so successful as an MMA coach. Mau ia pōtae maha pērā i kaiārahi, hoa, kaitohutohu, whakangungu hoa me te kaitaunaki rewera o ka tika. I trust his advice implicitly and you will see his MMA mind at work when I step in the cage to execute his game plan. Some gyms will destroy every new student that walks through the door, engari Tuatahi Class MMA ko te huritua o taua huarahi.

Unlike Velado, Wiegman, ko wai e tahuri 30 mua ki te hui, has not trained at any other gym prior to joining First Class.

“E kore e haere au e ahau ki te kohuki e ki runga i te rerekētanga i waenganui i to tatou tikanga whakangungu versus tetahi atu o te omaoma,, engari he aha e taea e ahau te mea he e nga whawhai riro haere no te mea o te mahi pakeke tatou whawhai, dedication and excellent coaching from all of our instructors,” stated Wiegman. “Ko te pono he tangata o te piha haapiiraa tuatahi John Raio. Tona fakatapui ki tona utuafare, tona omaoma, ko ana whawhai mai rawa ta'esiokita. Tino tautoko o te katoa e whakaako nei i ana i tona omaoma-tamariki ko Hoani, tangata me nga wahine, me ana tohutohu ana i. "

"A te reira whakawhetai katoa ki a Hoani, me Jody Raio me katoa o tatou e tohutohu ana i Class Tuatahi e whai ahau i tenei faingamālie.

Bryce Bamford (0-0) haere ki Tuatahi Class MMA i roto i te kapa Whare Mētara BJJ, which cross-trains with Raio’s students. Bamford is scheduled to make his amateur MMA debut in the heavyweight division at “NEF XX.” Bamford sees many similarities between the two teams.

That’s what attracted me down there. Steel sharpens steel.

“Hoatu katoa takatu enei to ratou wa i roto i.”

JOHN RAIO momoho i I Tuhinga WITH te CLASS TEAM TUATAHI

Lewiston, Maine (Mahuru 3, 2015) - New Ingarangi whawhai (Nef), Tau-kotahi whakatairanga whawhai rohe Amerika o, Ka mau i ona tekau ma iwa whakauru-hōia-toi (MMA) takahanga, “NEF XIX,” i runga i Rāhoroi, Mahuru 12, 2015 i te Androscoggin Bank Colisée i Lewiston, Maine. The fight card will feature three members of First Class MMA in action that night. Hana Sparrell (0-0), Rafael Velado (0-0) a Nick O'Shea (1-0) i te Brunswick,, Maine-based gym. Aita i maoro a'e, Tuatahi Class MMA kaiwhakaū me te kaiako matenga John “Class Tuatahi” Ray piri NEF ngā-rangatira, me te matchmaker Matt Peterson rite te āheinga i runga i te NEF Podcast.

Tenei Pipiri mua, 38-year-old Raio retired after competing in the NEF cage for some three-and-a-half years. Raio now concentrates on training the members of his First Class MMA gym, tae atu ki te whakarite Sparrell, Velado ko O'Shea mo ratou pāngia ka ū mai.

“Ahau tino taea e hoatu i te rota wā atu ki toku whawhai me te toku utuafare,” Said Ray. “Ko nga whawhai, I can put a lot more time into them because it’s not all about me. When you’re fighting, ka e koutou te whakangungu mo te whawhai, noa'tu te nui tamata koe ki te arotahi ki runga i Nick O'Shea ranei Nick Gully ranei Hana Sparrell ranei Rafael ranei tetahi o tatou whawhai, e kore e taea te hoatu tino e koe 100% effort into a fighter when you really focus on your own fight. It’s tough splitting between their fight and your fight and your job, to outou utuafare, a koutou tamariki.”

Mai te whanautanga o NEF roto i te tīmatanga 2012, me te pahūtanga muri o te rongonui te hākinakina o roto i te kāwanatanga, Kua tupu ake maha kori hou i roto i nga tau tata nei, including First Class MMA. Raio enjoys, hau atu i tetahi atu, te raru-noho kotahi, huru utuafare-rite i whakawhanakehia e i te wāhi mai i uakina ana e ia te omaoma.

“Ko te mea nui e ahau rite e pā ana ki to tatou omaoma, He pārekareka ki ahau e haere, me te hoko ko ha konga o, Ko reira te he rōpū tino haehaa o ngā ākonga, me te hunga e tohutohu,” noted Raio. “Everyone who teaches in there is about the fighters. It’s about the students. They’re not about themselves. They’re more about trying to help people get better. Whether they’re a fighter or a teacher, we have a few teachers who go there and we have several women students and several children and adults. It’s a real good mix and very much a family atmosphere. We rarely lose a student.

Te “Class Tuatahi” moniker is not merely a nickname given to Raio because of his past job with the postal service. Early on in his MMA career, Roaa Raio te ingoa o te whakaute, classy, ngaio, takitahi manakoa ai, hence the pun in his nickname. Those same qualities have carried over to the students of First Class MMA.

“Tamata e ahau ki te hamani katoa rite,” Said Ray. “I try to treat everyone respectfully. I think a lot of those guys (i te omaoma), roto i te tahuri, treat each other respectfully. If I ever have an issue with a student, ki te kore ratou e mahi whakaute ki te hunga e tohutohu ana i te tahi atu ngā ākonga ranei, I’ll pull them aside and if they have to leave then they have to leave. That’s part of life… Tatou omaoma tohoakii, mo etahi take, te iwi nei e te iwi pai noa.”

Ki te nui noa atu te ākonga hou e haere mai i roto i te tatau o tona omaoma, Raio has definitely kept busy since his retirement from active competition. Like a proud father, Raio has a real passion for the success of his students. The ultimate reward for him is seeing his protégées do well in the cage.

“I muri i te whakaaturanga whakamutunga (NEF XVIII), no te kitenga o ahau Nick (Gulliver, 1-0) kua whakaarahia tona ringa, me te Rob (Robinson, 1-0), Ko ahau na fiefia mo te hunga takatu,” recalled Raio. “I’m so happy to see these two guys win. As much as I didn’t come away with a win against Bruce (Boyington, 10-8), Ka mea ahau 'ki te haere tatou 2-1, I’d rather be the one that didn’t pull off the victory.I’ve never been as happy for my own win than I was for Nick and Rob that night.
