GLOVER VACATES; A NEW LIGHT-HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION TO BE CROWNED AT NEF 25

It was a bitterly cold night in Lewiston last February when Ryan Glover (3-1) won the New England Fights (NEF) cymysg-ymladd-celfyddydau (MMA) amateur light-heavyweight title. The months to come would see Glover accept a new job that would take him up and down the East Coast. With little time to train to defend the title, and in the interest of doing right by the division, Glover recently made the difficult decision to relinquish the championship.

NEF executives were quick to act. Yn gynharach heddiw, the fight promotion announced that Victor Irwin (2-0) would meet Nick Shea (2-0) to fill the vacancy. The two undefeated athletes are scheduled to face-off to determine a new light-heavyweight champion at “NEF 25: HEROES & VILLAINS” arMedi 10, 2016 yn Lewiston.

Irwin was a standout wrestler at Brewer High School in Brewer, Maine at 195-pounds where he was a Class-A state champion. His love for the sport is so strong that when Irwin attended Eastern Maine Community College (EMCC) and learned the school did not have a wrestling program, he created one himself. As a college freshman in 2014 Irwin went to Nationals and achieved All-American status. He currently trains out of Young’s MMA in Bangor, Maine.

I’ve thought a lot about this fight and I’ve come to the conclusion that it doesn’t matter what I say,” said Irwin, “it matters what I do, and come September 10thyou’re gonna see some serious doing.

2015 was a great start to the MMA career of Nick Shea. In February of that year, he won his debut fight over the much more experienced Jacob Cameron (1-5) trwy rownd-gyntaf knockout technegol. Later in the year, Shea would go on to defeat Ruben Redman (0-1) by decision in a hard-fought contest. It would earn Shea a nomination for the “Rookie y Flwyddyn” yn y 2015 NEF Year-End Awards. Ar Medi 10 yn Lewiston, Shea will attempt to become the first member of the First Class MMA fight team to capture gold in the NEF cage.

It’s an honor to fight someone from Young’s MMA,” said Shea. “I believe this will be my biggest test in the cage to date. I’m grateful and excited to compete for the amateur light heavyweight title. Victor and I will put on an exciting fight on Dydd Sadwrn, September 10th!”

MacFarlane Displays Phenomenal Ground Game En Route to Submission win Over Ruth

In the second MMA battle of the evening, Ilima-Lei MacFarlane (4-0) was able to continue her rapid ascension to the top of the women’s flyweight division and remain undefeated with an impressive rear-naked choke submission over Rebecca Ruth (6-2). MacFarlane’s remarkable ground game and jiu-jitsu skill set was on full display tonight, forcing the veteran Ruth to tap out three minutes into the second round. For Ruth, the loss is just the second of her career and first since 2014. The win is “The Ilimanator’s” third since joining the promotion and is her first submission victory of the rear-naked choke variety.

Gloria Peritore Takes Split Decision Victory From Denise Kielholtz

In the opening kickboxing bout of "Bellator: Dynamite 2,” Gloria Peritore (11-1-1) was able to edge out Denise Kielholtz (44-3), taking home a split decision victory. It was an even battle from start to finish, but in the end it was the judges’ scorecards that read 29-28, 28-29, 29-28 in favor of the Italian. The loss is just the third of Kielholtz’s career and left the Dutch powerhouse completely speechless in the center of the ring. For the 27-year-old Peritore, the win gives her 11 since making her professional debut only two years ago.

Matt Mitrione Ignites Full House in Opening Bout of “Bellator: Dynamite 2”

FRESNO, Calif. (Mehefin 17, 2016) — It was a rematch over three years in the making, it was a fight that was scheduled, cancelled and re-scheduled, acar ddydd Gwener yn Bellator 156inside Save Mart Center, Marcos Galvao (17-7-1) yn erbyn Eduardo Dantas (18-4) was also a barnburner of a main event with the Bellator MMA Bantamweight Championship on the line.

Galvao, 33, walked into the arena with the belt in tow, riding high on his memorable victory at the expense of Joe Warren mewn 2015. But over the course of 25 cofnodion, Dantas put a halt to any momentumLorohad, peppering his former training partner’s left-eye with punches, until it swelled shut. Galvao tried valiantly to slow the pace of “Dudu” through grappling, but the 27-year-old did enough to earn the nod from the California State Athletic Commission judges and take back the belt that he claimed was his all along.

With the defeat, Galvao’s four-fight winning streak was snapped, while Dantas has now pieced together two consecutive victories. The Nova Uniao product will now set his sights on the winner of Darrion Caldwell erbyn Joe Taimanglo yn “Bellator 159,a bout that will determine the new No. 1 contender for Dantasfreshly won title.

Chidi Njokuani ‘Bang BangsHis Way to Knockout Victory

The co-main event of the evening featured contrasting styles, gyda Chidi Njokuani (15-4) looking to keep the fight at length and utilize his height and reach advantage, tra Thiago Jambo (18-5) worked hard to close the distance and compete on the inside. “Chidi Bang Bangwon out, cracking the gut of Jambo with a kick that folded the Brazilian to the mat. Njokuani pounced, landing left and right punches until referee Mike Beltran waved the fight off at2:39 y rownd derfynol, giving the Las Vegas native a knockout win. After the scrap, the 28-year-old made his interview concise, telling the welterweight division: “anyone can get it.

John Salter Taps Brandon Halsey via Triangle Choke

Throughout the lead up to Dydd Gwener event in Fresno, Brandon Halsey (9-2) made it clear that fans watching would see a new and improved “Bull,” and while the former Fresno State Bulldog did demonstrate a new array of striking, yr oedd yn John Salter (12-3) who stole the show. The 31-year-old Wilmington, N.C. resident caught Halsey on the mat with a triangle choke submission, forcing him to tap out after 4:03 yn y rownd gyntaf. Keeping with the trend of his career thus far, every fight Salter has won has been via submission, furthering his claim for a shot at the promotion’s 185-pound belt.

Honeycutt Impresses Hometown Crowd in Middleweight Debut

In the opening main card contest of “Bellator 156: Galvao vs. Dantas,” Fresno’s own Chris Honeycutt (8-1) welcomed Mikkel Parlo (13-3) back to the Bellator MMA cage with a complete 15-minute performance, building upon the wrestling pedigree he’s known for with a newfound dynamic striking arsenal. Usually Parlo, a Danish fighter who had not competed for the Scott Coker-led promotion since 2014, gets the better of his opponents when the fight stays upright, ond ar ddydd Gwener, yr oedd yn “Mae'r Cutt” who got the better of the punching exchanges. Yn y pen, it was the 27-year-old Honeycutt who walked away with a unanimous decision, pushing out his current winning streak to two bouts and improving to 4-1 under the Bellator umbrella.

One of the most recognizable MMA fighters of all time, Neuadd o Famer Randy Couture transitioned nicely into the entertainment world after his fighting career, starring in several television shows and movies, most notably the Expendables franchise and Dancing with the Stars. Inside the cage, Couture was a fearless underdog, often defeating men with great size advantages. “The Natural” was a multi-time heavyweight and multi-time light heavyweight champion in the UFC.

“King Mo” has been a mainstay with Bellator MMA since 2013, fighting everyone both the light heavyweight and heavyweight division has to offer. Having first fought in the sport almost twenty years ago, very few men have a more legendary resume than Wanderlei Silva. “The Axe Murderer” is a Pride and UFC veteran, who brings an intimidating and imposing presence with him every time he steps into the cage. Currently one of the biggest free agents in the sport, Silva may soon return to action in hopes of adding to an already-impressive list of wins that include: Guy Mezger, Dan Henderson, Kazushi Sakuraba, Ricardo Arona, Kazuyuki Fujita, Michael Bisping, Cung Le, Brian Stann and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson twice

Yn ddiweddar, Bellator MMA was pleased to exclusively secure his services as cutman for the foreseeable future, after “Stitch” signed a multi-year contract with the Scott Coker-led promotion. “Stitch” is seen everywhere combat sports events take place, and played a vital role in the recent smash blockbuster, “Creed.”
