THE TRASH TALK STARTS FAST AND FURIOUS BETWEEN DENNING AND DEXTER

PARA PUBLICACION INMEDIATA: Lewiston, Maine (Enero 6, 2017) Luchas -Nueva Inglaterra (NEF) regresa a la Colisee Androscoggin Banco de Febrero 11, 2017 con su próximo evento de artes marciales mixtas, “NEF 27: RESURGIMIENTO.” El día de hoy, the fight promotion announced the addition of a professional catchweight fight to the card. Mate “Ken Muñeca” Denning (3-5) está programado para enfrentar Ricky Dexter (0-0) at a weight of 160-pounds.

Denning is fresh off an appearance for World Series of Fighting (WSOF) at Madison Square Garden in New York City this past New Year’s Eve. All of Denning’s previous professional bouts had been for NEF. The Lewiston resident is looking to break a string of three losses after submitting Derek Shorey (4-8) last spring at “NEF 23” in Hyannis, Massachusetts. Denning is a member of Central Maine Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

I’m coming back to NEF to make a statement,” said Denning emphatically. “I’m coming off of a couple of losses in a row and I’m coming to get that win. They think I’m all Jiu Jitsu and can’t take a punch. You want to brawl with me? Let’s stand toe-to-toe. You’re going to try and lay on me like you did in your amateur career? I’m going to welcome Dexter to the pros in a mean way. It’s a new level here and I’m going to come out on top!’

Ricky Dexter will vacate the NEF Amateur Welterweight Title to turn professional and face Denning on Febrero 11. Dexter won that championship last February with a first-round technical knockout of Caleb Farrington (3-1). Como amateur, Dexter put together a very impressive record of 5-2 with all five of his wins coming by finish. Dexter represents Team Irish in Brewer, Maine.

Once Matt Denning feels my power and the inability to take me down, he’s going to be looking for a way out like he always does, except I’m not looking for the sub,” Said Dexter. “11 de febrero, I’m going to show the NEF fans that Matt Denning is in the fight game for the wrong reasons. I’m coming from the ‘ammo league,’ but I’ve been training with killers my whole career. I’m going to show everyone I belong here.

TRAHAN AND DENNING IN SEARCH OF A MUCH-NEEDED WIN IN THE MMA CAGE

Lewiston, Maine (Septiembre 5, 2016) – Taylor Trahan is a statistical oddity.

A native of Littleton, New Hampshire, now living in East Concord, Vermont, the 25-year-old pursued mixed martial arts seven years ago, soon as he was legally old enough to do so. He has entered the cage a total of 20 times in professional and amateur competition.

All that experience in this neck of the woods, yet his featherweight bout against Matt Denning at “NEF 25: Heroes and Villains” on Sábado, Siete. 10 at Androscoggin Bank Colisee will be his debut with New England Fights.

Trahan (5-6) is not buying the underdog or bad-guy label, even though he will walk into the historic arena in a city that Denning (3-3) calls home.

“This is only a two-hour trip (each way) for most of my fans,” Trahan said. “Most of them are used to traveling four hours or more to watch me fight. They’re like, 'Oh, sweet.’”

Both fighters hope the matchup will reverse their recent career fortunes. Trahan has lost five consecutive fights since a red-hot start to his pro docket, while Denning has dropped three of his last four contests.

Denning is quick to point out that the results are deceiving on both sides.

“He fought a guy named Joe Pingitore. Beat him the first time with a rear naked choke and then lost to him in the rematch,” Denning said. “That’s a guy who is one of the best 145-pounders in New England.”

If anyone has the right to consider himself an expert in ranking those middle weight classes, it’s Denning.

The local favorite known as “Ken Doll” has never shied away from fighting the best that NEF has to offer fighters in the neighborhood of 145. Denning twice defeated Derek Shorey. He inched upward in weight, unsuccessfully, against Jon Lemke at 150 and Josh Harvey at 155. Más recientemente, Brandon Bushaw beat him by submission at “NEF 24: Promised Land” in June.

“You think about Lemke and Harvey, and I train with Jesse Erickson (at Central Maine Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu),” Denning said. “The only one really missing is Devin Powell. I feel like I’ve fought and trained with the best group of guys around.”

Jiu-jitsu is the go-to for both fighters. Trahan is a brown belt, while Denning is a purple belt.

In other areas, their styles clash. Three of Trahan’s pro wins have come by decision. Denning, mientras tanto, has never gone the distance as a pro. He only went to the cards once as an amateur – a loss to Dom Cofone in his cage debut.

Trahan stopped short of a prediction but said that he expects to prevail by submission.

“I see it being a slow first round for at least the first couple minutes,"Él dijo. “Then once I get my timing down and start doing the things I want to do, I don’t see it going into the third round.”

Denning has prepared for a lengthy encounter. He confessed that he smoked through most of his career but has quit.

Couple that with a renewed commitment to road work and Denning forecasts that his fans will be pleased with his readiness for the relatively unknown foe.

“I believe the longest fight I’ve had was two minutes left in the third round,” Denning said. “I feel good conditioning-wise. I’m a shorter guy, so I’ve got to stay at 145.”

He said that sparring against Erickson has prepared him for the taller Trahan.

Denning believes that his striking and wrestling are superior to Trahan’s repertoire, but he complemented his rival by adding that he considers him another in a line of rugged opponents.

“I wanted to pick someone hard to fight. This is my fourth fight in six months,” Denning said. “Before that I took a year off. The last time I won in Lewiston was September of last year. I’m hoping the hometown advantage will help a little bit this time.”

Given the unpredictable nature of MMA, pro fighters must have short memories while applying the hard lessons they learn from losses. Trahan, like Denning, thinks he has achieved that.

“I’ve learned that I have to stick to what I know, and don’t do what’s not me,” Trahan said. “I think that in order for me to win, I have to take it to the ground. I favor the ground style. He’s excellent on the ground, no me malinterpreten, but I’ve seen some things I think I can exploit.”

The opening bell this Sábado, Septiembre 10 se establece para 7 p.m. El expediente actual para "NEF 25: Heroes and Villains” includes three professional boxing matches, five pro mixed martial arts bouts and five amateur MMA scraps. Los boletos cuestan desde $25 y están disponibles enwww.TheColisee.com o llamando a la taquilla en Colisee 207.783.2009, extensión 525.

DENNING INKS NEW NEF DEAL; WILL FACE TRAHAN AT NEF 25

El día de hoy, NEF executives announced the re-signing of Lewiston featherweight mixed-martial-artist Mate “Ken Muñeca” Denning (3-3) to a new developmental deal. The first fight of the deal will see Denning face Taylor Trahan (5-6) on the main card of “NEF 25.”

I’m excited to have signed another contract with NEF,” dijo Denning. “I was planning on retiring, but I still have too much fight left in me. I haven’t been doing great record-wise, but if people have seen the opponents I have faced and the performances I put on, they know I’m evolving.

Denning, un miembro de Central Maine Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (CMBJJ), has had eleven of his thirteen combined amateur and professional fights in the NEF MMA cage. He signed his first developmental deal with the promotion in the fall of 2014. Denning got off to a 2-0 start as a pro before dropping three of his next four. He says that his new focus will be on improving his abilities through tough fights rather than trying to pad his record.

I’m excited to fight Taylor Trahan. Es un duro, dura lucha, but I wanted it. I need the motivation to get back in prime shape like I was when I fought Jeremy Tyler and made my pro debut against Derek Shorey. I’m over records. I’m done with everyone’s opinions. I talked to my coaches and team and I’m going to fight tough guys and do my best to beat them and get better. When I am finally done fighting, I want people to remember that I fought extremely tough opponents and did very well. Thanks to Matt and Nick for asking for me back. I plan on putting on a great show come 10 de septiembre. Quién sabe–maybe the NEF fans will see me in the boxing ring soon! Oss.

Looking at the length of his career, it is hard to believe Taylor Trahan is only 25-years-old. The native of Littleton, New Hampshire, and current resident of St. Johnsbury, Vermont, made his amateur MMA debut back in 2009, shortly after his 18th birthday. Seven years and 26 fights later, Trahan is recognized as one of the most prolific competitors in all of New England MMA. While he has fought in every corner of the region, Trahan has yet to step into the NEF MMA cage. He predicts that he and Denning will put on an exciting, fight-of-the-night performance in his NEF debut.

I’m looking forward to being a part of NEF 25,said Trahan. “NEF always puts on a great show. I’ll be fighting Matt ‘Ken Doll’ Denning. He’s a game opponent, but I see holes in his game that I’ll be looking to exploit. I predict the fight having a lot of fireworks and being fight of the night.

FIGHT WITH DENNING IS THE CROSSROADS FOR BUSHAW

Lewiston, Maine (Junio 14, 2016) – Like so many headline-grabbing heavy hitters with New England Fights, Maine native Brandon Bushaw (1-2) had nothing left to prove in his combat sports career.

Bushaw parlayed his undefeated state championship season as a Westbrook High School senior in 1999 into a college wrestling career at Michigan State University, where he was a teammate of UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans (19-5-1).

“I was with my high school girlfriend (Cynthia), now my wife, so I knew we would always have ties to Maine,” Bushaw said. “Other than being on wrestling scholarship, I thought I was done fighting.”

The couple settled in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and opened Island Bar and Grill, which they have owned and operated for a dozen years.

It is a good, comfortable life. Extended family visited and found the area so alluring that they stayed permanently.

Those competitive juices never completely evaporated, sin embargo.

“I had teammates who turned to mixed martial arts,” Bushaw said. “I watched them, and as I approached 30, it became a bucket list thing. Now here I am, 17 fights later.”

Bushaw, 35, explained the journey in a phone interview as he prepared for his fourth professional bout, a featherweight clash with Auburn’s Matt "Ken Doll" Denning (3-2) en "NEF 24: Promised Land” on Sábado, Junio 18 at Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston.

The fight is Bushaw’s first on his original home turf since a 2014 loss to Elias Leland at the 135-pound limit. He ascends to 145 libra, where he admitted he is more comfortable (“at my advanced age,” Bushaw quipped) for the confrontation with Denning.

“It’s weird, because I thought I was done competing up that way when I graduated from high school, but when I go home after all these years, all the old friends that I haven’t seen for years turn out to watch me fight,” Bushaw said. “I’ve fought all over, but any time I fight in Myrtle Beach or in Maine, it’s more special.”

Some athletes return to their competitive arena because they miss the allure of the cheering crowd.

That’s true of Bushaw, to a degree, although even the spectator interest he drew with the Blue Blazes and Spartans pales by comparison to what greets him surrounding the NEF hexagon.

“It’s nothing like high school or even college wrestling,” Bushaw said. “You show up and there’s two, tres, four thousand people watching. It’s so different. You don’t get multiple chances to fight in a week or even a single weekend. It lasts a few minutes and then it’s the highest of the highs or the lowest of the lows.”

The physical toll and the necessary complement of skills also exceed what Bushaw knew in his youth.

He made that discovery about a minute into his initial amateur bout.

“MMA is more dynamic than wrestling. I remember my first fight, the guy picked me up and threw me down and I landed on my head,” Bushaw said. “I remember thinking, ‘This was probably not such a good idea,’ but I found a way to get the win.”

“You can be better than a guy in four different categories, but if he’s better in just one, he’s capable of beating you," él continuó. “You think things are going your way and then it’s the biggest letdown in the world.”

There’s a camaraderie in that unpredictable realm that only veterans of the cage can fully understand. Bushaw, who has trained with the likes of childhood friend Jamie Harrison and Amos Collins, noted that he has become cordial with almost all his prior opponents.

Denning (3-2) is one of the few with whom Bushaw (1-2) became “friends” on social media before their fight.

“It’s kind of strange, but all those things go out the window,” Bushaw said. “He’s fought my buddy Dom Cofone. He’s a local boy. I know it’s going to be a tough challenge for me.”

In many respects it is a crossroads bout for Bushaw, who admitted that he has considered retirement from the sport.

“Probably my last five fights I’ve gone in saying, ‘One more fight and I’m done,’ and then I keep going. I don’t shy away from anybody,"Él dijo. “My last fight was against a kid who was 23 and he’d been in Thailand for two years or some (cosas). That was one time when I might have said, 'Qué estoy haciendo?'

“For me it’s family, then business, then fighting. For a lot of these younger guys, fighting is first, and that makes it a challenge.”

The two fought to a draw on the judgesscorecards this past April in Lewiston. They agreed to rematch with Berry’s title on the line. Esta vez, sin embargo, there will be an odd number of rounds (seven to be exact) to make the chances of another draw very slim.

The professional MMA portion of the card will see Jesse “El Vikingo” Erickson (6-5) return to the cage after his third unsuccessful attempt at capturing the lightweight title this past April. Erickson will have his work cut out for him in the form of the always tough Amos Collins (4-5) at a catchweight of 161-pounds.

Erickson’s teammate, Mate “Ken Muñeca” Denning (3-2), will also see action on the professional MMA card when he meets Brandon Bushaw (1-2) en un combate de peso pluma.

The amateur MMA card will be headlined by a flyweight title rematch as Ryan Burgess (2-0) defends against the former champion, and the athlete he took the title from, Dustin Veinott (4-4). Veinott’s loss to Burgess last fall via split decision put a stop to his four-fight win streak.

Also on the amateur card will be 46 años de edad Dr. Steve-Bang, Sr. (1-1), a bariatric surgeon from Auburn, Maine. In an unplanned homage to Father’s Day, he will be joined on the fight card by his sons Steve-Bang, Jr. (3-5),Shawn explosión (1-1), Skyler explosión (0-0) and foster son Conner Murphy (1-0).

FORMER STATE CHAMPION RETURNS TO BATTLE THE KEN DOLL

Lewiston, Maine (Mayo 16, 2016) - Luchas de Nueva Inglaterra (NEF) returns to Lewiston, Maine en junio 18, 2016 with the fight promotion’s next mixed-martial-arts (MMA) and professional boxing extravaganza, “NEF 24: TIERRA PROMETIDA.” NEF executives have announced the signing of a professional featherweight MMA bout to the card featuring Mate “Ken Muñeca” Denning (3-2) y Brandon Bushaw (1-2).

Denning is coming off a huge submission victory over Derek Shorey (3-7) this past weekend at “NEF 23” in Hyannis, Massachusetts. The first time the pair met in 2014, it took Denning a mery 2:28 to submit Shorey. Denning topped that performance in the rematch by finishing Shorey in just 37-seconds. The win was a rebound for Denning after back-to-back losses in the NEF MMA cage. Just last month in Lewiston, he was stopped in the first round by Josh Harvey (1-0). Ahora, he will look to make it two wins in a row when he takes on Bushaw on junio18.
I’d like to thank New England fights for giving me another opportunity to show my skills and how hard I have been working,” dijo Denning. “This is my third fight in eight weeks. After fighting someone as tough as Josh Harvey, I’m prepared to battle with anyone. I’m going to keep the fight in my hands and dominate on the feet, lucha, or if it hits the ground. Bushaw is an experienced fighter and is going to bring it fast. I’m looking forward to it and extremely confident with staying in the win column.

Brandon Bushaw won state championships in wrestling for Westbrook High School in 1998 y 1999 con un récord combinado de 73-3 for those two seasons. He went on to wrestle at Michigan State with former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight Title Holder Rashad Evans (24-5-1) as a teammate.

Recent years have seen Bushaw relocate from Maine to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where he trains at Fitness Edge MMA. He has made the trip back home to the Pine Tree State to compete for NEF on four separate occasions. Bushaw’s last appearance on an NEF card was in the fall of 2014 against Elias Leland (2-1). It was Bushaw’s only loss to date in his home state of Maine. The upcoming fight with Denning will see Bushaw move up in weight from the 135-pound bantamweight division to the 145-pound featherweight division.

I am beyond excited to return to my home state of Maine and fight under the NEF banner for the fifth time,” exclaimed Bushaw. “I am making the move up to 145, where I intend to stay for the rest of my career. That is, por supuesto, if my sole loss in Maine will accept a rematchI would gladly make the cut to fight Eli Leland again at 135!
