2017 New England Golden Gloves Team Champion – Western New England

LOWELL, Masa. (Gājiens 3, 2017) – Western New England won its fourth consecutive New England Tournament of Champions open class team title last night in the grand finale of the 71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship, at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
Western NE had seven individual winners to earn the Bill Hoar Memorial Award as the Most Outstanding Team. Northern New England finished second with three individual winners and Central New England had two.
“Vēlreiz,” New England Golden Gloves Executive Director Bobby Russo teica, “it was a great tournament with so many good, competitive matches. We had the biggest crowd of the season turnout for the finals. The draw was done by computer, so the marches were nice and fair. I really liked the way these boxers were matched. The fans here in Lowell have been appreciated for a long time watching good fights and we plan to keep that rich tradition going.”
Western New England bantamweight Nathan Martinez, who defeated Joseph Valdez on points last night, was named the recipient of the Thomas Costello Memorial Award as the Most Outstanding Boxer.
Norther New England lightweight Liz Leddy won her sixth All-New England title with a close points win over Kelsay Kaiser, while three-time National Golden Gloves champion Rashidi Ellis (Central New England), who is the No. 2 rated lightweight in the United States, took a decision against defending N.E. čempions Lyndsay Kyajohnian.
Western New England light heavyweight Elivis Figueroa captured his third All-New England crown. His teammate, Hampton Miller (pictured below), apstājās Sean Gabriel in the second round to win the Rocky Marciano Memorial Award as the Most Outstanding Heavyweight Boxer.
Last night’s open-class winners qualified to be members of Team New England at the National Golden Gloves Championships for men in Lafayette, Louisiana (Maijs) and women in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida (Jūlijs).

“New England will be sending a strong team to the National Golden Gloves,” Russo added. “We may only have three female boxers going to The Nationals, but each one of them have won national tournaments. Anyone of the male boxers on Team New England could win at The Nationals. I think Elvis (Figueroa), Yarmarco (Guzman) un Josniel (Castro). I will offer the Team New England head coaching position to Luis Rosa from the winning Western New England team. We’ll also be brining Carlos Garcia (veteran coach from Worcester), who will be inducted into the National Golden Gloves Hall of Fame.)
Proceeds from the Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship went towards sending the New England Golden Gloves champions to the National Golden Gloves Championship, papildus atbalstot vietējos sportistus un area vingrošanas zāles, zēni & Meitenes klubs, zupas virtuvēm, bezpajumtnieku patversmes, vēža fondi, stipendijas un daudzas citas lieliskas labdarības cēloņi.

The finals of the New England Tournament of Champions will be held šovakar(Ceturtdiena, Jūra. 2) at Lowell Memorial Auditorium to crown the 2017 N.E. champions, who will represent Team New England at the National Golden Gloves Championships for men in Lafayette, Louisiana (Maijs) and women in Ft. Team Central edged Team West for the most wins last night, 4-3, followed by Team North and Team South with two victories apiece.

(Februāris 28, 2017) – The top male and female amateur boxers in New England will compete in the New England Tournament of Champions open class semifinal and finals, rīt nakts (Wed., Jūra. 1) un Ceturtdiena vakars (Jūra. 2), to highlight the 71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
Much is stake for these boxers as the 2016 N.E. champions will qualify to represent Team New England at the National Golden Gloves Championships for men in Lafayette, Louisiana (VAR) and women in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida (Jūlijs).
The competing boxers will represent four teams at the New England Tournament of Champions: Central New England, Western New England, Northern New England and Southern New England.

71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship

 

LOWELL, Masa. (Februāris 24, 2017) – Twelve novice division champions were crowned last night in the men and women’s finals of the New England Tournament of Champions, part of the 71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship, at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
Central New England edged Western New England, 6-4, to win the team title and receive the George McGuane Award. Northern New England had the other two individual winners.
The much-anticipated showdown in the light welterweight bout lived up to its billing as Alejandro Paulino, of New London (CT), defeated Tyngsboro’s (MA) Nathan Balakin, 4-1. Paulino was presented the Louie Ayala Memorial Award as the Outstanding Boxer. Jose Ayala, Louie’s brother, made the presentation.
“We had another big, enthusiastic crowd that enjoyed watching some great matches,” teica Bobby Russo, New England Golden Gloves Executive Director. “The novice division finals had so many good matchups. Paulino versus Balakin was a very good fight. Tagad, we move on to next week’s open division semifinals and finals of the New England Tournament of Champions.”

LOWELL, Masa. (Februāris 17, 2017) – Many of the best novice boxers in New England competed last night in the semifinals of the New England Tournament of Champions, part of the 71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship, at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
To the delight of an always enthusiastic crowd, hometown-favorite Team Central had the most individual winners with seven, followed by Team Western (4), Team Southern (3) and Team Northern (1).

LOWELL, Masa. (Februāris 11, 2017) – Central New England (Lielāka Lowell) division champions in the open and novice divisions were crowned last night in the final round of the 71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium. Fans braved the frigid cold weather to support the amateur boxers.

LOWELL, Masa. (Februāris 3, 2017) – Fourteen exciting matches were held last night in the semifinals round of the 71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship, Central New England (Lielāka Lowell) nodaļa, at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
The open and novice championship finals will be held nākamo ceturtdien nakts (Februāris. 9) at Lowell Memorial Auditorium with men’s and women’s matches. See the remaining 2017 grafiku notikumu tālāk, kā arī pagājušā vakara pabeigt rezultāti.
Last night’s action included nine novice division semifinals matches, eight men’s and one women’s, as well as four open men’s matches. Two of the open matches featured final competitions (not semifinals like the others) as Boston light heavyweight Taylor Mears, representing The Ring gym, stopped Nahua’s (NH) John Xifaris otrajā kārtā, and North Chelmsford lightweight Brandon Higgins edged Dorchester’s Jonathan Depina on points, 3-2.
Gloucester’s Gedney brothers, middleweights Adrien un Henry, both won last night, shutting out their opponents (5-0), attiecīgi, James Marino, no Medford, un Furcy Ferreras, of Peabody. The Gedneys will not fight each other next in next Thursday’schampionship final of the novice super middleweight division. They will decide which brother will advance and last night’s opponent of the twin that isn’t advancing, Marino or Ferreras, will advance.
Arguably the most action-packed match last night was between lightweights Jeremiah Perez, of Lowell, un Edwin Rozon, of Haverhill, in the open division. Perez won on points, 5-0, but the game Rozon kept firing despite being dropped in the second round.
