2017 New England Golden Gloves Team Champion – Western New England

LOWELL, מסה. (מרץ 3, 2017) – Western New England won its fourth consecutive New England Tournament of Champions open class team title last night in the grand finale of the 71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship, at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
Western NE had seven individual winners to earn the Bill Hoar Memorial Award as the Most Outstanding Team. Northern New England finished second with three individual winners and Central New England had two.

The draw was done by computer, so the marches were nice and fair. I really liked the way these boxers were matched. Western New England bantamweight Nathan Martinez, מי שניצח Joseph Valdez on points last night, was named the recipient of the Thomas Costello Memorial Award as the Most Outstanding Boxer.
Norther New England lightweight Liz Leddy won her sixth All-New England title with a close points win over Kelsay Kaiser, while three-time National Golden Gloves champion Rashidi אליס (סנטרל בניו אינגלנד), who is the No. 2 rated lightweight in the United States, took a decision against defending N.E. אלוף Lyndsay Kyajohnian.

“New England will be sending a strong team to the National Golden Gloves,” Russo added. “We may only have three female boxers going to The Nationals, but each one of them have won national tournaments. Anyone of the male boxers on Team New England could win at The Nationals. I think Elvis (פיגרואה), Yarmarco (גוזמן) ו Josniel (קסטרו). I will offer the Team New England head coaching position to לואיס רוזה from the winning Western New England team. LOWELL, מסה. (פבואר 24, 2017) – Twelve novice division champions were crowned last night in the men and women’s finals of the New England Tournament of Champions, part of the 71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship, at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
Central New England edged Western New England, 6-4, to win the team title and receive the George McGuane Award. Northern New England had the other two individual winners.
The much-anticipated showdown in the light welterweight bout lived up to its billing as Alejandro Paulino, of New London (CT), defeated Tyngsboro’s (תואר שני) Nathan Balakin, 4-1. Paulino was presented the Louie Ayala Memorial Award as the Outstanding Boxer. Jose Ayala, Louie’s brother, made the presentation.
“We had another big, enthusiastic crowd that enjoyed watching some great matches,” אמר בובי רוסו, מנכ"ל ניו אינגלנד כפפות זהב. “The novice division finals had so many good matchups. Fans braved the frigid cold weather to support the amateur boxers.

Last night’s action included nine novice division semifinals matches, eight men’s and one women’s, as well as four open men’s matches. Two of the open matches featured final competitions (not semifinals like the others) as Boston light heavyweight Taylor Mears, representing The Ring gym, stopped Nahua’s (NH) John Xifaris בסיבוב השני, and North Chelmsford lightweight Brandon Higgins edged Dorchester’s ג'ונתן דפינה on points, 3-2.
