Payano set the pace early, closing the distance with Santiago and delivering consistent flurries of punches. Santiago was unable to keep Payano from charging forward early and seemed focused on landing a big counter.
The fight was defined by its rough nature and constant fighting on the inside. This led to a cut above Payano’s left eye after round three, but his corner was able to manage it and the cut was never a problem.
“I felt like I was winning every single round,” said Payano. “There were small moments on the inside that I gave away but I think I did the better work each round.”
Santiago had moments in the fight and landed big right hands late in the fourth and fifth rounds that got Payano’s attention, but the former champion was able to throw back with high volume and regain control of the fight.
“The strategy was to wear him down and then really try to walk him down and take him out,” said Payano. “Santiago was a little too tough for his own good so I kept some distance at times and controlled the fight.”
“I felt the long layoff when I got in there,” Said Santiago. “I was a little tight and I loaded up too much instead of using my speed.”
Even when Santiago was able to corner Payano, the slippery fighter was able to fight his way off the ropes and turn the tide back in his favor. After the end of 10 rounds of super bantamweight action all three judges’ saw the fight in Payano’s favor by scores of 100-90 en 99-91 tweemaal.
“I want my titles back,” said Payano. “I don’t care who is holding which titles at 118 en 122 pond. I’ll fight anyone and show I’m still a champion.”
“I thought the fight was a little closer,” Said Santiago. “He did more work than me but I thought I had good moments. I wanted to box him a little more but I couldn’t find my range so I just tried to close down the gaps. We just have to go back to the drawing board and stay more active. I want to get a tune-up fight then get right back to fighting top guys.”
The co-main event saw once-beaten Ladarius Miller (14-1, 4 KO) score a unanimous decision victory over 2012 U.S. Olympiër Jamel Herring (16-2, 9 KO) in their 10-round lightweight bout.
The southpaws began the fight carefully, with Miller looking to establish his jab while Herring showed great movement early and tried to catch Miller in the pocket. The exchanges picked up in round two, although both men were still primarily throwing one punch at a time.
“I know I out-jabbed him,” Said Miller. “When we jabbed each other, I thought my jab was stronger than his. I gave him two different styles. There were times where I walked him down and times where I boxed him.”
Miller began to pick up the aggressiveness in round three, following up his jab with a straight left hand over the top that snapped Herring’s head. Herring continued to focus on his movement and mixed-in good body work several times to finish off exchanges.
In round five Herring began to plant himself inside and looked to counter Miller, but was unable to do enough clean work to get the attention of the judges as Miller continued to throw back with left hands and movement that occasionally frustrated Herring.

“I thought 97-93 was the right score,” Said Miller. “I took it easy in round nine and felt him out in the first two rounds. But the rest of the fight I felt like I dominated. It’s a process. I’m just climbing the ladder right now. I want to get another test and fight more strong fighters. I want to be on the biggest stages. I’m ready for the step up.”
“I thought I landed some heavy shots in there and was more aggressive,” Said Herring. “Obviously the judges saw it differently. I’ll get back with my team and see what’s next, but I did think I won the fight. I thought I won the last two rounds and pulled it out.”

The two-time Dominican Olympian Payano began his path towards another world title with a stoppage of Isao Gonzalo Carranza in January, after first becoming a champion via a technical decision over Anselmo Moreno in September 2014. The accomplished amateur won gold at the 2006 Central American and Caribbean games with victories over McJoe Arroyo and Yoandris Salinas. He defeated Jundy Maraon, Jose Silveria and Luis Maldonado on the way to his title shot and engaged in a pair of exciting fights with Rau’shee Warren that saw him defend his title in August 2015 and lose in June 2016.
Een pro sinds 2009, the 26-year-old Santiago had won ten consecutive bouts before dropping a decision to Jose Cayetano in his last contest. The Phoenix-native defeated Gustavo Molina, Javier Gallo and Antonio Tostado Garcia in 2015 and and has also taken down once-beaten fighters Alex Rangel and Hanzel Martinez. He will make his 2017 debut against one of his most experienced foes to date in Payano.
An amateur standout who won a 2012 Amateur National Championship the same year as his Olympic run, Herring fights out of Cincinnati and is originally from Coram, New York. The 31-year-old won his first 15 pro fights including triumphs over Luis Eduardo Florez, Yakubu Amidu and Hector Velasquez. A former member of the U.S. Marine Corps, Herring bounced back from his first defeat and stopped experienced contender Art Hovhannisyan in February.

Originally from Memphis but now living and training in Las Vegas, Miller has won four fights in a row, including three by stoppage. MIAMI, OKLAHOMA – Juli 18, 2017 – Nobody told Rolando Chinea he was supposed to the “B-side,” when he upset Ladarius Miller, O'Shanique Foster, Mel Crossty, of op zaterdag, when he handed Kenneth Sims Jr. (12-1, 4KO) his first loss.

The Super Lightweight prospect, who hails from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, won a majority decision over Sims in the co-feature of Zaterdag night’s edition of SHOBOX: The New Generation. Sims came out strong early in the fight, but Chinea was relentless, breaking down his opponent over eight rounds. Chinea dominated the last two rounds, and punch stats indicated that he landed more punches overall throughout the bout.

It was Chinea’s second Showtime outing, and Victory Boxing Promoter Chris Middendorf hopes to see him back on the network soon. “He’s shown that he’s willing to step up and face the best. He doesn’t shy away from an undefeated fighter, and he’s ready to get back in the ring on Showtime, and continue to show boxing fans what a real throw-back fighter looks like,” zei Middendorf.

Chinea, for his part, rated the performance a ‘B.’ “I am back in the gym and ready to improve. Every fight I learn something about myself and I am ready to put that experience to work for me.”

LAS VEGAS (April 29, 2017) – Newly crowned WBA Interim Featherweight Champion Claudio Marrero (22-1, 16 KO) shocked previously unbeaten Carlos Zambrano (26-1, 12 KO) with a first round knockout in the main event of Premier Boxing Champions op FS1 en FOX Deportes, Zaterdag night from Sam’s Town Live in Las Vegas.
“There’s so many emotions going through my head right now, that I still can’t wrap how it feels to be a champion now,” said Marrero. “I won’t let it distract me, because I’ll fight whoever is the best in my weight class. I knew what kind of fighter I was going up against and I knew what had to be done. I was hungry”
The fight ended abruptly as Marrero of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic threw a rock solid straight left hand that sent Lima, Peru’s Zambrano to the canvas, rendering him unable to stand and referee Vic Drakulich waved off the bout at 1:30 of the one and only round. Marrero extended a seven-fight win streak.
“After being inactive for a year, of course my timing was a little off I am not happy at all with my performance,” said Zambrano. “This is a fight that was long awaited and I know Marrero has been eyeing me for a while, so it’s just unfortunate the way things ended.
“I need to come back to the states and find sparring partners who can really help get me to the level that I want to be,” continued Zambrano. “For my record to be beaten at this point, its just really disappointing I have no other words to describe it.”
The co-main event of the FS1 and FOX Deportes telecast ended in a sixth round TKO by hungry middleweight Nathaniel Gallimore (18-1-1, 15 KO) of Kingston, Jamaica over Jeison Rosario (12-1, 9 KO) van Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.Both fighters came out swinging in the first round with Rosario taking it on all three judge’s scorecards. Rozenkrans, who had never gone past the fourth round started to slow down in the fifth as Gallimore took over.
“I came into the fight confident then at some point something just happened, my body started to slow down,” said Rosario. “I got a little tired and I started to fight a little sloppy. My plan is to go back and begin working on my jab consistently, that was my weakness during throughout the fight.”
Gallimore came out of the corner in the sixth round determined to end the fight and succeeded. He dropped Rosario, but the Dominican rose to his feet, only to be dropped by a hard upper cut. In the main event of the FS2 and FOX Deportes telecast, super lightweight prospect Ladarius Miller (13-1, 4 KO) put on an impressive performance before stopping Jesus Gutierrez (14-2-1, 4 KO) in the eighth and final round of their matchup.
“I am extremely happy with my performance,” Said Miller. “This is the best Ladarius Miller I have shown. I was familiar with him as a fighter so I knew what I had to do in the ring. I thought I had him in the first round with the uppercut, but he was in a lot better shape than I thought. He took the punches but in the end I knew I would end up on top with the win. I’m just ready to get back in the ring and look ahead at my next challenge.”
Miller out boxed Gutierrez with a combination of movement and lead left hands to take control of the first portion of the fight. Gutierrez attempted to close the distance between him and Miller, but was unable to muster up enough offense to slow down his opponent.
“Het was een geweldig gevecht, I think we gave the fans what they wanted to see,” said Gutierrez. “I have nothing but respect for Ladarius, he came out vanavond and showed what he was made of. I kept the pressure on and I thought that would be enough to get him.”
Several back and forth flurries defined the final two rounds of the fight before Miller was eventually able to use a big right hand to floor Gutierrez and force referee Russell Mora to halt the fight at 2:34 into the eighth round.
The opening bout on FS2 and FOX Deportes saw former world champion Layla McCarter(39-13-5, 10 KO) dominate and eventually stop Szilvia Szabados (15-10, 6 KO) in the seventh-round of their welterweight bout.
“I saw early in the fight an opportunity, to go for the body and that’s what I did,” said McCarter. “She took a lot of damage and was a tough opponent. I felt I could have brought it a lot harder, I had such a great training camp I wish I just would have delivered the Layla i know I can bring.”
Szabados came out aggressive from the start, but the veteran contender McCarter picked her off with power punches throughout the early rounds before Szabados began to wear down and become frustrated.
“She was a great opponent for me, there are definitely a lot more things that I need to go back home and work on,” said Szabados. “Globaal, she came to win and she showed it. I brought a lot of toughness, but in the end she came out on top.”
Referee Tony Weeks deducted a point from Szabados for blows to the back of the head early in round seven before a final flurry from McCarter forced the referee to stop the fight 56 seconden in de ronde.

One of the most accomplished female fighters in the sport, McCarter has fought at the highest level since turning pro in 1998. She has won titles at featherweight, lichtgewicht, super lightweight and super welterweight. In 2008 she became the WBA Lightweight World Champion by defeating Jelena Mrdjenovich in Canada and successfully defended it against Fujin Raika in 2009. McCarter has won 15 fights in a row entering April 29 including a victory over Noni Tenge that earned her the vacant WBA Super Welterweight Championship.
The 26-year-old Szabados turned pro in 2014 and won her first five fights. Fighting out of Hungary, she challenged Nikki Adler for a 168-pound world title in 2015. She would go on to win her next four fights as she built her way up the ladder. Szabados has a pair of stoppage wins in 2017 sandwiched around a challenge of two-time Olympic gold medalist Claressa Shields in March.
Een pro sinds 2014, Miller won his first nine pro fights as he used his speed and skills to out box opponents. Originally from Memphis but now living and training in Las Vegas, Miller has won three fights in a row including a stoppage victory over Carlos Castillo, a decision over previously unbeaten Maynard Allison and most recently a second-round TKO of Ronald Rivas last October in Las Vegas.

Ladarius Miller Knocks out Ronald Rivas in a second round TKO

Las Vegas (Oktober 8) – The Uzbekistan-born Super Middleweight Ronald Gavril (17-1, 13 KO) verslagen Christopher Brooker (11-2, 5 KO) by way of TKO from Sam’s Town Live inside of Sam’s Town Hotel & Gambling Hall in Las Vegas, NV in the main event of Mayweather Promotions Sin City Showdown, the first installment of their monthly series of boxing at Sam’s Town Live.
From the second the bell rang it was non-stop action in the ring as Gavril and Brooker fought for the vacant NABF Super Middleweight title. Both fighters rolled out combination punches and uppercuts early in the rounds. Brooker fired off shots and Gavril was countering, neither fighter would let up. In de 5
th ronde, Brooker landed a clean uppercut that had Gavril on the canvas and shook up. Gavril regrouped and returned with blows to Brooker, leading in a war of blood exchange.
It was a slugfest between these Super Middleweight fighters, which ultimately led to Gavril knocking Brooker down twice in the 10th round, defeating him and claiming the vacant NABF title.
“The guy was very very tough, but I came back to win,” said Gavril. “I trained extremely hard with my team and they prepared my body for this fight. My endurance really got me through this fight. I have to say the knockdown in the 5th round got me to refocus and get my mental toughness in gear.”
“He wouldn’t let up, but that didn’t stop me from getting the title. I only had one goal coming into this fight, and I accomplished it, I am the new champion.”
“I was extremely upset with the decision,” said Brooker. “I go hard in every fight and this fight was no different. The judges had the scores as a draw so I feel like I was going to get robbed any way. There wasn’t a three knockdown rule, so I just didn’t understand why the judges called it so pre-maturely. “The judges should have let me continue fighting, this was a title fight, not a regular match. I definitely thought the knockdown in the fifth round put me ahead, but I guess I was wrong.
“I am looking to fight anyone, whoever and whenever the next opportunity is for me to fight, Ik zal het nemen. If possible, I want the re-match against Gavril.”
The co-main event featured a pair of welterweight prospects that produced an exciting matchup, ultimately leading to second round TKO after only 55 seconds by Memphis-born Ladarius Miller (12-1, 3 KO) tegen Ronald Rivas (5-5-1 3 KO).
“I am so happy with my performance,” Said Miller. “I am getting better and better with each fight, and this fight proved that my hard work and consistency in the gym and with my team is working.”
“Simpel gezegd, I just wasn’t prepared like I should have been for this fight. He came out and proved to want it more than I did. I came in ready, trying to get comfortable, before I could adjust he came in with the punch.”
Sanjarbek “War” Rakhmanov (6-0, 3 KO) kept his record in tact in a 6-round action-packed bout against then-undefeated Jonathan Dinong (5-1, 4 KO). Both fighters kept the pressure on, but Rakhmanov proved to be the better fighter going the distance and getting the win.
Samuel Santana (8-11-3, 2 KO) won by way of disqualification in a Super Lightweight showdown against Jose Vargas (6-1, 4 KO), giving the young prospect his first loss. Mayweather Promotions opening bouts resulted in wins by both prospects as, Xavier Martinez (5-0 2 KO) verslagen Wilfredo Garriga (3-4-1 2 KO) by unanimous decision in a six-round Super Featherweight match-up and Daniel Gonzalez (2-0) representing Las Vegas, NV stopped Sean Acosta (0-3-1) after four rounds of action winning by majority decision.

LAS VEGAS (Zeven. 26, 2016) – Former title challenger Ashley “Schat” Theophane (39-7-1, 11 KO's) looks to redeem himself after a tough loss back in April as he headlines the main event of Mayweather Promotions Sin City Showdown, Zaterdag, October 8thfrom Sam’s Town Live in Las Vegas.
