LAS VEGAS (Mei 11, 2016) – A potentially explosive, highly entertaining “Knockout Night at the D” undercard has been announced for Zaterdag nacht, Mei 21, luchten (8 p.m. PT / 11 p.m. EN) live op CBS Sports Network from under the neon lights at the Centrum van Las Vegas Events Center (DLVEC) buiten locatie.
De “Knockout Night at the D” serie, gepresenteerd door het D Las Vegasen DLVEC, wordt bevorderd door Roy Jones Jr. (RJJ) Boksen Promotions. De Mei 21st evenement wordt gepromoot in samenwerking met Main Events en Shamo Boxing Promotions.
Undefeated Russian middleweight Arif “Het roofdier” Magomedov (17-0, 10 KO) squares off against upset specialist Andrew “Orkaan” Hernandez (11-4-1, 3 KO), van Phoenix, in de 10-round main event. Las Vegas’ 17-year-old boxing prodigy Devin “De droom” Haney (5-0, 3 KO) will become the youngest American boxer to box on national television as the 7-time national amateur champion takes on fellow undefeated lightweight prospect Jairo Fernandez (4-0, 3 KO), van Mexico, in the 6-round television opener.
Former WBC Youth International titlist Tony Lopez (10-1, 3 KO), van Dallas, meets unbeaten Houston featherweight Jerren “Hardknocks” Cochran (11-0-1, 4 KO) in een wedstrijd van 8 ronden.

Haney (hieronder afgebeeld) is a 7-time national amateur champion, who captured a gold medal at the 2015 Jeugd Wereldkampioen, but he was unable to try-out for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Boxing Team because of his age. When headgear was eliminated from Olympic boxing competition, the minimum age for a U.S. boxer to compete in the Olympics was changed to 19, so Haney decided to turn pro at the age of 17 rather than wait four more years. Fighting May 21st on CBS Sports Network promises to be the start of something very special for Haney.

Haney, natuurlijk, hasn’t graduated from high school yet. He’s been home schooled since the seventh grade, studying between his training responsibilities as a prizefighter: morning run, afternoon strength and conditioning, and full boxing workouts during the evening.

Magomedov (17-0, 10 KO), who is promoted by Main Events, is rated among the top 15 middleweights by the four major sanctioning bodies: WBC #2, WBO #3, WBA #5 en IBF #14. The gifted Russian (rechts afgebeeld) captured his NABO title belt 10 maanden geleden, winning a 10-round unanimous decision against previously undefeated Derrick Webster (19-0). Last December in his most recent action, Magomedov (rechts afgebeeld) gestopt Jonathan Tavira in the seventh round.

Magomedov’s expansive display-case presently holds the NABO. WBO Youth, WBO Asia Pacific, WBA Inter-Continental, WBA Fedelatin, UBO Inter-Continental and Russian middleweight title belts.

The 30-year-old Hernandez (afgebeeld naar links), also known as “The Pride of Phoenix,” has pulled off his fair share of upsets. In 2015, Hernandez stopped 17-1 Jeff Page, Jr., whose only other loss was to 2-time Russian Olympian and current world light heavyweight contenderArtur Beterbiev, in de 10th round of their UBF Inter-continental super middleweight title fight. Hernandez also upset 12-0 Jerry Odum last year at Madison Square Garden Theater.
In his last fight this past March, Hernandez won in Tacoma when veteran Dionisio Miranda (22-14-2) was unable to answer the bell for the 8th round.
