Anthony “Juice” Young defeats Eduardo Flores in front of sold out crowd at The Claridge in Atlantic City

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (July 22, 2016)-Welterweight Anthony “Juice” Young won a six-round unanimous decision over veteran Eduardo Flores in the featured bout of a nine-bout card this past Friday night at the Claridge in Atlantic City.
The bout headlined a sold out night of boxing that was promoted by Rising Promotions.  It was the fourth consecutive sold out event in the last eight months that Rising Promotions has staged.
The co-feature saw welterweight Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna tuned up for a major bout in the fall with a first round destruction of Engleberto Valenzuela in a super welterweight bout.
Young, of Atlantic City systematically took apart Flores, despite Flores trying to frustrate Young by coming in with wild shots for which some strayed behind the head.
In the end, It was Young, who was not headlining for the first time, but being spurred on by his hometown fans and he was able to get the victory to the tune of 60-54 & 59-55 twice.
Young of Atlantic City is now 13-2.  Flores of Ecuador is 23-22-5.
LaManna of Millville, New Jersey took apart his Mexican opponent with a hard combination that sent Valenzuela into the corner.  The popular New Jersey Product wasted no time in getting Valenzuela out of the fight by landing a thunderous body punch that sent him to the canvas.  The fight was halted at 2:17 of round one.
LaManna will take on a highly-regarded opponent (To be announced this week) onSeptember 16th at Taj Mahal in Atlantic City.
This was “Cornflake’s” fifth consecutive win and second consecutive inside the distance to raise his record to 21-1 with ten knockouts.  Valenzuela is 10-8.
Heavyweight Dan Pasciolla avenged his only pro defeat by winning a six-round unanimous decision over Dante Selby.
Pasciolla was credited a knockdown in round two as he landed a flurry in the corner and it was ruled that only the ropes stopped Selby from hitting the canvas.

Pasciolla of Brick, New Jersey won by scores of 60-53 twice and 59-54 and is now 8-1-1.  Selby of Philadelphia, was coming off a two and a half year layoff is 2-2-1.

Exciting bantamweight prospect Christian Carto made it two consecutive stoppages by halting debuting Christopher Nelson in round three of their scheduled four-round bout.

Carto of Deptford, NJ floored the Indiana native in each of the three rounds and the bout was stopped fifty-one seconds into the third frame.
Carto is now 2-0 with two knockouts.

Marvin Johnson scored a third-round knockdown en route to a four round unanimous decision over Lamont White in a lightweight bout.

Scores were 40-35, 40-36 and 39-36 for Johnson of Atlantic City who is now 1-0-1.  White of Washington, DC is 0-2.
Dallas Holden of Atlantic Cit won a four round unanimous decision over Kevin Asmat in a bantamweight bout featuring New Jersey based pro debuters.
It was a close fight with each fighter making a case for the victory.
In the end, all three cards read 39-37 in favor Holden of Atlantic City over the North Bergen native.
In a battle of pro debuters, Donald Smith of Philadelphia  won his pro debut by winning a four-round unanimous decision over Cameron Cain of Indiana. in a junior lightweight bout.
Smith controlled the action and won by scores of 40-35 and 40-36 twice.
Chinese light heavyweight Fanlong Meng scored a knockdown and was ruled the winner via 5th round stoppage over former contender Daniel Judah in a scheduled eight round bout.
Meng sent Judah into the ropes with a left hand that was ruled a knockdown and Meng and the referee ruled that Judah could not continue at the bout was stopped at 2:08.
Meng is now 8-0 with 6 knockouts.  Judah of Brooklyn, NY is 24-11-3.
Zhang Zhilei of China won a six round unanimous decision over Rodney Hernandez in a heavyweight bout.
Scores were 60-53 and 59-55 twice for Zhilei of China, who is now 11-0.  Hernandez is 10-5-1.

After thrilling win, LaManna & Rising Boxing Promotions build towards future 

Rising Boxing Promotions stages terrific first show
ATLANTIC CITY (DECEMBER 11, 2015)–Last Saturday night, Thomas LaManna made a successful voyage into the welterweight division by hammering out an 8-round unanimous decision over Ariel Vasquez at the Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City.
The card was presented in front of an enthusiastic crowd at the The near-sold out Claridge, which featured an In-Arena host and provided giveaways to the crowd throughout the evening.
Rising Star Promotions fight cards strive to be more fan friendly and interactive in and and out of the ring.
The success of the fights, both in the ring and at the box office already has the shore community eager for the next installment of Rising Boxing Promotions, which is tentatively scheduled for February 20th.
“The Claridge Hotel was very pleased with the quality of fights and the attendance on Saturday, ” Said Debbie LaManna of Rising Boxing Promotions.  “Our mission with the promotion is to have good and competitive fights that will have the crowd excited throughout the night   We had some in-house entertainment that had the crowd involved as well.  I think we accomplished everything we set out to do and it is a great building block for our February show.”

LaManna used a diverse arsenal of punches as featured body work, jabs and a good straight hand at various points of the fight. LaManna showed grit as Vasquez was game by occasionally sneaking in a straight left that the bigger LaManna was able to walk through. The only blemish for LaManna was that he was deducted a point for low blows in round four but he was able to by scores of 79-72 twice and 78-73.

LaManna, 148 lbs of Millville, NJ is 19-1. Vasquez, 144 lbs of Managua, Nicaragua is 12-12-2.

In the 6-round Heavyweight co-feature, Willis Lockett was able to win a 6-round unanimous decision over John Lennox.

Lockett won the bout on the strength of landing a series of flush right hands that looked good but never hurt Lennox. Lennox was more active at times and got in some telling blows but it was not enough as Lockett won by scores of 59-55 twice and 58-56.

Lockett is now 14-14-4. Lennox is 13-4.

Quian Davis made short work of Santario Holdbrooks in a scheduled four-round Heavyweight bout.

Davis was all over Holdbrooks from the opening bell and the fight lasted just 26 seconds.

Davis is 1-0-1 with 1 knockout. Holdbrooks is 0-3.

Alshamar Johnson and Villi Bello fought to an entertaining 4-round draw in a Middleweight bout.

Both guys took turns being the boss in the fight and the rounds were close and featured plenty of toe to toe action. Each fighter took a a card at 39-37. One card read even at 38-38.

Bello is 3-1-1. Johnson is 1-1-1.

The opening bout saw debuting Ecuadorian Luis Perozo score a 1st round stoppage over Davonta Steele in a scheduled 4-round Jr. Welterweight bout.

Perozo, who now resides in Queens, New York dropped Steele from a body shot and the fight was stopped at 2:11.

Perozo was making his pro debut. Steele of Concord, NC is 0-2.

Atlantic City, NJ (December 4, 2015)–THIS SATURDAY NIGHT, December 5thThomas “Cornflake” LaManna take on Ariel Vasquez in the main event of a card that will take place at the Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City.

Before the main event, a solid undercard made up with top fighters from New Jersey and the shore area will be featured on the undercard.
In a 6-round bout
John Lennox (13-3, 5 KO’s) of Carteret, NJ will take on Willis Lockett of Takoma Park, MD.
Lennox will be looking to get back in the win column after dropping a unanimous decision to Dan Pasciolla on August 15th.  The former college football standout has a win over Patrick Farrell (8-1-1).
Lockett is a 14 year veteran, who faced top competition such as Brian Minto, Javier Mora, Tommy Karpency, former world champion Keith Holmes, Jerson Ravelo, Aaron Pryor Jr, Tarvis Simms and Michael Seals.
He has quality wins over Tyrone Tate, Glenn Turner, Willie Williams & former world title challenger Larry Marks.
Also appearing will be undefeated Cruiserweight knockout artist Alvin Varmall (7-0-1, 7 KO’s) of Lake Place, LA battling Philly tough guy Brian Donahue in a 4-round bout.
Local Heavyweight Quian Davis of Vineland, NJ will fight Santario Holdbrooksof Kannapolis, NC in a 4-round bout of fighters who will be looking for their first win.
Alshamar Johnson (1-1) of Vineland, NJ, who is coming off a stunning stoppage over previously undefeated Nick Valliere (5-0) will take on Villi Bello (3-1, 1 KO) of Queens, NY in a Super Welterweight bout.

LaManna (18-1, 7 KO’s) of nearby Millville, New Jersey will take part in a 8-round Welterweight bout against an opponent to be named.

The 23 year-old LaManna turned professional in 2011 and won his first sixteen bouts that were highlighted by wins over Ashandi Gibbs & Jamaal Davis.

Since suffering his only loss, LaManna has won two straight which includes a 6-round unanimous decision over rugged Ayi Bruce on September 26th in Beach Haven, New Jersey.
That loss, which was a nationally televised fight with Antoine Douglas, gave LaManna the realization that he should move down in weight and the former Middleweight contender will now campaign as a Welterweight.
LaManna, who has taken more control of his career with his formation of Rising Star Promotions, has been very active as this will be his 3rd fight in 4 months.
Also seeing action in a six round bout will be Welterweight Anthony “Juice” Young.
The 27 year-old native of Atlantic City has a record of 11-1 with five knockouts, will be making his 5th appearance in his hometown.  He is coming off a 6-round unanimous decision over Jonathan Garcia on August 15th in Atlantic City.

LENNOX SET FOR COMEBACK THIS SATURDAY NIGHT AGAINST DAN PASCIOLLA AT THE PLAYGROUND IN ATLANTIC CITY

 

Atlantic City, NJ (August 12, 2015)–John Lennox made a call in February to his long time manager and good friend Rich Masini. The call was relatively long.

The contents of the call were passionate on both sides because the two guys who have had the same goal and same mission for years, Win a title! The manager and the fighter each laid out their case, but the crux of this call was between two great friends who have a great respect for each other and they both agreed to do their part in the quest of the goal.

That quest begins this Saturday night when Lennox (13-2, 5 KO’s takes on Dan Pasciolla (3-1) in a 6-round Heavyweight bout at The Playground in Atlantic City.

Shortly thereafter, John walked into the gym and met with his longtime trainer Charles Thomas and Masini.

John was weighing 249 pounds and a long way from his ideal fighting weight.

“I took time off. I got married and had a child plus I work in Manhattan as a Lost Prevention Manager at Barneys. Things are going well now.”

What transpired over the next six months was the epitome of hard work and dedication with one vision of which will come to fruition on Saturday night night in Atlantic City.

Lennox will enter the ring after a 22 month layoff, when he takes on the formidable Pacsiolla.

“I knew what my problems were and now it’s time to get back to boxing. I want something out of boxing.”

Lennox is an accomplished professional and is ready to go after the long layoff.

Masini has gone on record stating that John is in great shape and we have had great southpaw sparring. On August 15 in Atlantic City, it will be John’s night to prove he is back.

“I know Pasciolla is a tall southpaw but that should not be a problem I am working to put on a good show.”

“I love this kid and when he is in the ring, I am with him,” said Masini. “I have the utmost respect for John and we expect a great night against a solid opponent. We expect John to have a large support group to be in the crowd rooting him on.

John has had great trainers over the years, including long time and first time trainer Charles Thomas. John has also trained under Buddy McGirt. Because of other obligations, Buddy will not be able to be here with us on fight night but he is expected to be in John’s corner in upcoming fights.

Masini gushes over Thomas great work with Lennox. Thomas and Lennox have a long bond which gives Lennox a great comfort level .

Chazz Witherspoon to battle Nicholas Guivas on Saturday, August 15 at The Playground in Atlantic City

Atlantic City, NJ (August 6, 2015)–On Saturday night, August 15, Silverspoon Promotions in conjunction with the Atlantic City Boxing Hall of Fame will present a huge night of boxing at The Playground in Atlantic City.

In the 10-round main event, be Heavyweight contender Chazz “The Gentleman” Witherspoon will take on Nicholas Guivas.

Witherspoon (33-3, 25 KO’s) of nearby Paulsboro, New Jersey established himself as one of the top American Heavyweights as the St. Joseph’s University graduate won his first twenty-three bouts with wins over the likes of Michael Alexander (11-0), Talmadge Griffis (24-6-3), & Jonathan Haggler (18-1) before suffering his 1st defeat to future two-time world title challenger Chris Arreola via controversial disqualification.

Witherspoon went on to win three win a row which was highlighted by an entertaining 8th round stoppage over Adam “The Swamp Donkey” Richards (21-1). That fight was voted Ring Magazine’s 2008 Heavyweight Fight of the Year. Witherspoon then dropped a fight to future two-time world title challenger Tony Thompson.

Witherspoon went on to score 4-consecutive knockouts which included a devastating 3rd-round destruction over Tyson Cobb (14-2).

Witherspoon then took on undefeated prospect Seth Mitchell on April 28, 2012 in a bout where Witherspoon had Mitchell badly hurt on several occasions before Mitchell came away with the victory.

In his last bout, Witherspoon scored a 5th round stoppage over Galen Brown on April 18 in Pennsauken, New Jersey.

Guivas of Topeka, Kansas, has stopped his last four foes with three coming in the first round. In his last bout, Guivas scored a 6th round stoppage over Justin Willms (4-1) on June 6 in Topeka, Kansas.

Millville, NJ (June 17, 2015)–On Saturday night, July 25, Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna will be back in action as Rising Star Promotions presents a night of professional boxing at the New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, New Jersey.

LaManna will headline a 9-bout professional card when he takes part in a Jr. Middleweight bout scheduled for 8-rounds.

LaManna of Millville, New Jersey has a record of 16-1 with 7 knockouts.

“This will be a great night of boxing and we are looking forward to showcasing some of the best local talent,” said Debbie LaManna of Rising Star Promotions.

LaManna is eager to get back in the ring following his first professional setback. That happened on March 13 when he was stopped by undefeated prospect Antoine Douglas in a bout that was nationally televised on Showtime’s acclaimed ShoBox series.

LaManna wasted no-time in getting back in the gym in an effort to redeem himself and has been training diligently between his home in Millville, New Jersey and New York City.

“I have a chip on my shoulder and feel that I have something to prove to my fans, family, friends and most importantly myself. My last fight doesn’t define who I am as a fighter but it defined me as man. I stepped up in competition and faced in my mind the best prospect in boxing. I came up short but took it as a learning lesson and not a defeat,”said LaManna.
