McCottrell and Gomez battle for featherweight supremacy at 559 Fights

SELMA, CALIF. – Two of the hottest young featherweight prospects in California will square off Saturday, May 18th in Fresno at the Rainbow Ballroom with 559 Fights gold on the line.

Coalinga 145-pound mixed martial artist Enoch McCottrell puts his 3-0 record on the line against Bakersfield’s Vince Gomez (3-0) in the main event of 559 Fights 72.

“I can’t think of two hotter fighters in the Valley right now,” 559 Fights president Jeremy Luchau said. “Both have an exciting style, like to finish fights and were easy choices to fight for our vacant title.”

In the co-main event, 559 Fights women’s Bantamweight champ Maritza Sanchez (5-6) puts her title on the line against Oakland’s Lindsay Scaturro (1-1).

Also featured on the card is a California Amateur Mixed Martial Arts Light Heavyweight State Title fight between Ceres’ Gregory Morales (4-1) and Lancaster’s Chadricc Kindle (3-2).

“We have a lot of great fights on the top of this card. Everyone has enjoyed watching Maritza’s rise in MMA and it’s great to have both Gregory Morales and Chadricc back to fight for us as well,” Luchau said.

In total 17 bouts will be contested, including three grappling super fights. “This is a loaded fight card, with 14 MMA and 3 grappling bouts,” Luchau said. “It’s been a real pleasure getting back to our roots and working with all the schools
in the Valley for both grappling and MMA bouts.”

Also, back in action is Arroyo Grande middleweight Isaiah Hughes (5-1) who takes on Ridgecrest’s Joseph Gaceta and Merced middleweight Jaime Llamas- Trevino (1-0) takes on Kerman’s David Marquez (0-2).

“Hughes has been a long-time fan-favorite at 559 Fights, as well as Gaceta. I’m really looking forward to seeing them get back in the cage,” Luchau said. “Also, Llamas-Trevino is someone to keep an eye on”

In other bouts; Del Rey strawweight Angelic Pimentel makes her debut against Sacrament’s Oksana Ball (0-0), Sacramento middleweight Daniel Zaragoza (2-2) fights Bakersfield’s Adrian Silva (1-1-1), Wasco welterweight Troy Butler (3-2) takes on San Jose’s Aaron Armijo (2-0-1), Merced bantamweight Michael Gomez (0-2) battles Porterville’s Liovardo Garfias (1-0), Clovis lightweight Xavier Moreno (2-0) fights Kerman’s Hipolito Leon (1-3), Grover Beach featherweight Marvin Garcia (1-0) takes on Tracy’s Pedro Juarez (1-1), Fresno welterweight David Chacon (1-0) fights Los Angeles’ Eric Rush (0-0), Paso Robles, lightweight Jeremy Covert makes his debut against Bakersfield’s Denny Stout (0-0), and Fresno heavyweight Larry Gonzales fights Kettleman City’s Juan Espinoza (0-0).

559 Fights brings 50th event to Visalia

VISALIA, Calif. – When 559 Fights first opened it’s cage doors to amateur mixed martial artist in 2012 the vision was simple – grow and develop local talent.

On Friday, September2 at the Visalia Convention Center the locally-grown and operated MMA promotion will host it’s 50th event.

“When Joey (Perez), Mots (Jon Motsenbocker) and I sat down and started the idea of 559 Fights, we knew that this day would come,” said 559 Fights president Jeremy Luchau. “Our goal from the beginning was not to have the biggest, brightest, fanciest, but rather to be the most consistent and give more opportunities for young, local amateurs to compete.”

Since 2012 559 Fights has hosted the California Amateur Mixed Martial Arts Organization State Championships, Northern California Regional Championships twice and had hundreds of competitors step foot in their cage.

“559 Fights has become the most consistent MMA platform in the country which is demonstrated by the vast number of rising professional stars that developed their talent in the 559 cage,” CAMO President JT Steele said.

559 Fights has produced events in 18 different venues over the past three years and in cities all across the Central Valley from Bakersfield to Fresno.

Tickets for the 50th event can be purchased at the Visalia Convention Center box office and start at just $25. For more information visit www.559fights.com

“Often times we’ve done things against the grain. We charge a much smaller ticket price than other shows throughout the country and we put together sometimes triple the events,” Luchau said. “We try our best to give these fighters and fans the best possible experience. We’ve fought in venues all over the Valley trying to promote mixed martial arts and our fighters to a variety of different communities.”

Long-time 559 Fights staple Visalia’s Jonathan DeLeon will headline the event in a Featherweight Title bout against Bakersfield’s David Mendoza. In the co-main event, Visalia’s Steven Robinson takes on Ridgecrest’s Jacobo Longoria for the Welterweight Championship.

“There’s so many great amateurs throughout the Valley that it’s been really easy to showcase these fighters, get them the exposure that they need and have them move on to the professional level,” Luchau said. “We’ve had a large number of fighters essentially graduate from amateur ranks at 559 Fights and into the pro ranks.”

559 Fights 50 will have over 10-action packed bouts.

West Coast Fighting in Sacramento this Saturday

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – This Saturday mixed martial arts fans will pour into the McClellan Conference Center in Sacramento for West Coast Fighting Championship 16.

The 13-bout card features a main event that’s been dubbed “King of Sacramento” pitting local favorites Max Griffin and David Mitchell.

“It wasn’t easy, but we were able to put it together,” West Coast Fighting Championship matchmaker Jeremy Luchau said. “There was a lot that had to be negotiated between Max and David, but ultimately I feel like both guys were able to concede in some areas to make the fight happen.”

The showdown will take place at a catch weight of 175 pounds and although a non-title affair will be contested with a possible five rounds.

Griffin (11-2) is the current West Coast Fighting 170-pound champ and former Tachi Palace Fights welterweight kingpin. Meanwhile, Mitchell (19-5) has held titles for the promotion at middleweight and heavyweight.

“I’m not sure there’s been a more significant fight booked in that region in a long time,” said Luchau, who has served as the West Coast Fighting matchmaker since early 2015. “I really believe that with a victory, one of these guys should get the call.”

In the co-main event, an equally impressive tilt takes place pitting Sacramento’s Josh Emmett against Sothern California’s Christos Giagos.

“Emmett has been the man in the region for a long, long time,” Luchau said of the 8-0 Team Alpha Male product. “He has pretty much run the course of competition in the region, defeated all comers and is now looking to make that jump to the next level.”

He will have to do so against the well-versed Giagos (11-4), who held titles at both Tachi Palace Fights and Resurrection Fighting Alliance, before being cut from the Ultimate Fighting Championship after going 1-2.

“Giagos is a game opponent and was just the what the Emmett camp was looking for to give them that boost to the next level,” Luchau said. “It’s another fight where I feel like the UFC could be the next step for either guy.”

A pair of local heavyweights will vie for the newly vacant strap, as Josh Appelt (11-5) takes on Roy Boughton (12-6).

A pair of UFC vets will also be featured on the undercard, as Turlock welterweight and UFC vet Lewis Gonzalez (10-2) fights Ty Freeman (9-4) and hard-hitting, UFC vet Scott Smith (18-10) clashes with Bellator vet Baesman (17-8).
