Montreal (June 4) – As the world mourns the loss of Muhammad Ali, Moqebelo night’s Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on ESPN and ESPN Deportes telecast began with aCeremonial 10-Countin memory of “The Moholo ka ho Fetisisa” and continued to pay tribute to him throughout the telecast that was headlined by a light heavyweight bout between hard-hitting Russian Olympian Artur Beterbiev against Argentina’s Ezequiel Maderna.
The 31-year-old Beterbiev (10-0, 10 Kos), who fights out of Montreal, returned to the ring after an almost year-long layoff following shoulder surgery. Now seven months removed from the procedure, Beterbiev looked sharp from the opening bell as he threw straight right hands and body shots effectively to start the fight.
Maderna, who was also coming off of a long layoff, was hoping to make a statement in his first fight on North American soil as he moved up in weight for this bout. Beterbiev utilized his power and precision to control the entire fight, but kicked it into high gear in the third round, sending the 29-year-old Maderna to the canvas with two right hands. He stood up, but soon after was sent to the canvas again. Lekhetlong lena, spitting out his mouth piece to delay the bout causing Referee Marlon B. Wright to deduct a point.
At the start of round four, Maderna was dropped with a punishing right hand. He rose to his feet only find himself canvas agan, looking at his corner, they threw in the towel and the fight was stopped at 54 seconds of round four.
I am really satisfied by my performance,” said Beterbiev. “I want to thank my team for their patience during my inactivity.
My guy did really well after an absence of a year,” said Beterbiev’s trainer Marc Ramsay. “He is very special. In a short or medium period of time, we want to fight in a world championship.
The PBC on ESPN telecast, which is the first of seven between June 4 le August 12, opened with two welterweight southpaws facing off in hopes of maintaining their undefeated records. Leha ho le joalo, it didn’t take long for Florida’s Bryant Perrella (14-0, 13 Kos) to prove he was the better man as he scored a second round TKO over Washington, D.C.’s Davida Grayton (14-1, 10 Kos).
Grayton was more active at the beginning of the fight, working his right hand on the inside. Perrella used his longer reach and height difference to his advantage as he did his best to dictate the pace. Perrella knocked Grayton down in the beginning of the second round and became forceful with the right hand as Grayton left himself open to punishment. Qetellong, Perrella threw a left that caused Grayton to stumble and referee David Griffin waved off the fight at 2:19.
He came in real tougha tough competitor,” re Perrella. “I was the best man tonight. I caught him with some really hard shots, dazed him. I took my time, I listened to what my team said and got him out of there.
This is tremendous,” Perella continued. “This is what we’ve been wanting for a while to fight another undefeated prospect and get the recognition we feel we deserve. The welterweight division is filled with lions, tigers and bears, but I’m Tarzan baby. I’m the king of this jungle. I’m ready for whatever.
Also featured on the telecast was a six-round super welterweight contest between prospect Jamontay Clark (10-0, 6 Kos) of Cincinnati and Mexican warrior Edgar Ortega (16-6, 10 Kos). The game Ortega shocked the six-foot-two Clark in the first round, sending him to the canvas with a hard right hand. Clark regained his composure in between the first and second, controlling the fight from then on. Despite taking the fight with nine days’ tsebiso, Ortega stayed with Clark all six rounds, even rolling his ankle in the fourth. After the final bell rung, Clark remained undefeated, registering a unanimous decision victory with the judges scoring the bout 58-55 le 58-54 (ka makhetlo a mabeli).

Bethlehema, PA. (February 10, 2016) – Krrish 2012 U.S. Olympian Jamel Herring (15-0, 8 Kos) scored a unanimous decision (100-88, 100-88, 99-89) over Colombia’s Luis Eduardo Flores (21-3, 17 Kos) in a 10-round lightweight bout in the main event of Tuesday ea Tonakgolo Boxing Champions (PBC) Toe-TO-Toe TUESDAYS ka FS1 le Boxing Champions ka Fox Sports fight card at Sands Event Center in Bethlehem, PA.
Herring, who represented the United States at the 2012 Olympic games after winning the U.S. National Hardcore tlotla selemong sona seo, commanded the action throughout.
I knew if I boxed smart it would show, but I didn’t think it would be that wide a margin,” re Herring. “He’s a very experienced fighter.
Herring added, “I was trying to get rid of him early because he’s a dangerous guy. If you let a guy like that sit around too long there’s always the risk that you might get clipped with something and regret it.
Herring, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, hopes the win Labobeli night will launch him into world title contention in 2016.
Ho etsa hore U.S. qalo, the Magangue, Colombia native Flores put on a valiant effort, recovering from a flurry in the second round that would have sent most fighters packing.
La bohlano ho pota-pota, the 28-year-old Flores was ruled to have been knocked down twice, but disputes those calls by the ref. “Both times that the officials called it a knockdown and started counting were just slips. I didn’t actually get knocked down either time,” re Flores.
Flores added, “Ke tseba seo (Herring) had the advantage bosiung bona, and he outperformed me. But I’ll keep trying wherever my next opportunity comes.
I think getting a win like this over a fighter with Floresexperience will help me gain a lot more respect. People seeing me win on my first PBC card on national TV on FS1 and FOX Deportes just helps raise my profile and I look forward to being back,” re Herring.
The opening televised bout featured unbeaten prospect Alex Martin (12-0, 5 Kos) hlōtse Rossemberth Gomez (17-5-1, 13 Kos) ka ntsoe-leng qeto ea (80-72, 79-73, 79-73) a tse robeli ho pota welterweight Tlholisanong.
Martin, e 2012 National Golden Gloves Champion, controlled much of the fight from the outside using his superior footwork to evade Gomez.
The Harvey, IL native Martin said, “I could see his punches coming from a mile away, but I should have followed up a little more than I did bosiung bona and let my hands go a bit more too.
An owner of 340 amateur wins, Martin turned pro in 2013 and is yet to lose. That experience helped Martin keep his composure when Gomez taunted him repeatedly in the second round.
We wanted to make Martin mad and get him to punch himself out if we could,” said the 29-year-old Gomez.
Martin responded to the talk of baiting saying, “I just stuck to my fundamentals, kept pumping my jab and setting him up for the next shot.
I knew I hurt him with the uppercut. He walked right into it. And then when I threw the hook he couldn’t do anything,” re Martin.
Following the bout Gomez said, “I plan to retire after bosiung bona. I care too much and fight too hard to be just another opponent.
The second televised fight saw Raynell Williams (11-0, 5 Kos) win a unanimous decision (79-73, 79-73, 78-74) ka Gabriel Tolmajyan (14-3-2, 3 Kos) in eight rounds of lightweight action.
Setho se seng sa 2008 U.S. Olympic team, Cleveland’s Williams was able to establish himself early and get in a rhythm.
The only time he was able to catch me with anything was when I got a little lazy,” o ile a re Williams.
Williams caught Tolmajyan with a big right hand in the fourth round, seemingly stunning Tolmajyan momentarily, but he kept his composure and didn’t allow himself to become overzealous.
I was focused on boxing him and not so much worried about the knockout,” added Williams. “I knew I was winning the rounds.
In the final frame, Tolmajyan, fighting out of Glendale, JOALO KA, caught Williams with a shot that nearly ended things.
Williams recalled, “It was an overhand left that he hit me with. And then he came after me again, but the ref and I made contact, so then the ref pushed me away because he didn’t want me to try holding on to him. But once I got my feet under me I was fine.
Leha ho le joalo, Tolmajyan wasn’t impressed with Williams saying, “He wasn’t as good as we were expecting and I had him hurt with my left.
I thought that I was winning the fight to be honest. I didn’t think I was going to lose the decision,” added Tolmajyan.
Williams concluded, “I hope to learn from my mistakes bosiung bona. I got caught with a good punch in the last few seconds bosiung bona, so I just need to work on consistency and fighting until the final bell.
