Casamayor was a great amateur boxer who won the gold medal for Cuba at Bantamweight during the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Hispania. He then turned pro after defecting to the United States on the eve of the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. He is a former WBC, WBO, WBA and Ring Magazine champion.
