I want to thank my partner Fire Fist Boxing Promotions, for their hard work to make this event happen in Florida.
The 30-year-old Alexander (26-4, 14 KOs) will end a two-year layoff due to health issues when he steps in against Castillo. Alexander, De St. Louis, Misuro, won the 147-pound world championship with a unanimous decision victory over Randall Bailey in 2012. He lost the title via unanimous decision against Shawn Porter the next year. Alexander, mallerta, was a unified champion at 140-pounds and owns victories over Marcos Maidana, Lucas Matthysse and Jesus Soto Karass.
Two years is a long time to be away from something you love but I wanted to make sure when I come back that I would be 100 percent my old self,” Alexander said. “My last outings were not me, and a lot of my fans and people that know me are aware of that. I’ve been in constant training since then while getting my personal situation in order. Castillo is a good solid fight that is going to bring the best skills out of me. He’s not a slouch and he’s coming to fight. But it’s not about what Castillo coming to do. It’s about me making a statement to show people that I am still up there with the elite fighters, and I know that when I’m right, neniu povas venki min.”
After campaigning the last few years at 140 Funtoj, Castillo (26-4-1, 19 KOs) is stepping up to 147 pounds to take on the former champion Alexander. The 29-year-old Castillo, De Managua, Nikaragvo, will be ending a 16-month layoff onNovembro 21. Castillo lost by TKO to Sergey Lipinets in a 140-pound clash his last time out after previously fighting to a draw against Keita Obara in a title eliminator.
I think this could be one of my last great opportunities and I’m very excited for it,” Said Castillo. “Devon Alexander is a great boxer and I will have to be at my very best. Even though I’ve been out of the ring, my condition will not be a problem. mi estas 100 percent ready to give Alexander trouble. I am working very hard on a game plan to stop Alexander shock everyone.
The unbeaten Cruz (16-0, 11 KOs) has been very busy in 2017 as he steps into the ring for his fourth fight this year. The 27-year-old welterweight from St. Mary, Florida scored a unanimous decision victory over Alex Martin in a rematch in his last fight on Junio 27 after earning a split-decision in their first fight and beating Ali Mammadov in between.
The 30-year-old Grayton (15-1-1, 11 KOs) is coming off a technical draw against former champion Kermit Cintron in his last fight on Marto 17. Grayton, De #Va?ingtono D.C., suffered the only loss of his career when he was stopped by technical knockout by Bryant Perrella on June 4, 2016 before returning to defeat Kareem Martin in August last year leading up to the Cintron fight.

ARON MARTINEZ SCORES UNANIMOUS DECISION WIN OVER DEVON ALEXANDER IN PREMIER BOXING CHAMPIONS ON ESPN FIGHT CARD FROM GILA RIVER ARENA IN GLENDALE, AZ

LEE SELBY WINS UNANIMOUS DECISION
AGAINST FERNANDO MONTIEL

GLENDALE, AZ. (Oktobro 14, 2015) -Tonight’s Superegaj Boksaj #?ampiono (PBC) Sur ESPN fight card featured Mexican brawler Aron Martinez (20-4-1, 4 KOs) capturing a unanimous decision (97-93, 97-93, 96-94) victory over former world champion Devon Alexander “La Granda” (26-4, 14 KOs). In a 10-round battle, spent mostly on the inside, Martinez managed to emerge victorious.
The televised opener showcased a 12-round, action-packed battle as Lee Selby (22-1, 8 KOs) made his U.S. debut and secured a unanimous decision (116-112, 118-110, 119-109) win over former three-division world champion Fernando “Cochulito” Montiel (54-5-2, 39 KOs).
Here is what the fighters had to say about their performances tonight:
DEVON ALEXANDER
I wanted to be smart and aggressive in there tonight, and that’s what I did.
He was coming in fast like we knew he would. We knew he was going to come forward. I just couldn’t get my shots off like I wanted to.
Consecutive losses are tough, but I’m not easily discouraged. I just need to regroup and then we’ll see what’s next. I’m still considered one of the best.
ARON MARTINEZ
I’m the heavier guy. I’ve always fought at 147 Lbs. This is my natural weight and I sparred against much bigger guys during the last few weeks of training camp. I was facing fast 180 lbs fighters in camp to get ready for this.
We followed our game plan tonight. I give (Alexander) props for standing in there with me.
Fighting on a PBC card on ESPN is the best kind of opportunity for me. I’ll use this fight to get another great chance like I got tonight.
I’ll fight whoever they put in front of me. I’m always the underdog, but I embrace it because that mentality has pushed me to work harder.
LEE SELBY
My jab, reach and speed were my biggest advantages tonight. That was how I got the win.
All the cuts I’ve had in my career have come against shorter fighters like (Montiel). When I got cut tonight in the 6th round it was the same thing. I caught a head butt.
I was honestly disappointed in my performance tonight. I got the win and it was a great feeling to get my first one on U.S. soil. But the fans didn’t see me at my best, and a big part of that was Montiel’s experience. He’s a great fighter.
FERNANDO Montiel
I thought it was a lot closer fight than the judges had it on the scorecard.
I spent the first few rounds waiting for him to come at me so I could counterpunch. But he wasn’t engaging me so I became the aggressor and brought the fight to him.
It was an honor to fight on this PBC card here in Arizona. I honestly think I deserve a rematch. I want to fight him again.

PREMIER BOXING CHAMPIONS ON ESPN MEDIA WORKOUT QUOTES IN ADVANCE OF DEVON ALEXANDER VS. ARON MARTINEZ AT GILA RIVER ARENA IN GLENDALE, AZ ON OCTOBER 14

Coverage On ESPN Begins At 9 P.M. ET/6 P.M. MT/PT
GLENDALE, AZ. (Oktobro 12, 2015) – Televised fighters on the Superegaj Boksaj #?ampiono (PBC) Sur ESPN fight card taking place this Wednesday in Glendale, AZ took time out of their busy schedules to host a media workout at Central Street Boxing Gym.
Devon Alexander “La Granda” (26-3, 14 KOs) will take on battle-tested Mexican Aron Martinez (19-4-1, 4 KOs) in the headlining bout at Gila River Arena. Televised coverage is slated to begin at 9 P.M. ET/6 P.M. MT/PT with the U.S. debut of featherweight world champion Lee Selby (21-1, 8 KOs) as he takes on former three-division world championFernando “Cochulito” Montiel (54-4-2, 39 KOs).
Here is what the fighters had to say in anticipation of their bouts:
DEVON ALEXANDER
This camp has been all about getting things right. I had to make sure my mentality was right. Losing is not an option anymore. In my loss to Amir (Khan), it wasn’t anything that he necessarily did to make me lose. All the losses that I’ve had I think I could have just as easily won those fights. This is a mental game, and I wasn’t there mentally for those fights.
I had to get rid of the distractions around camp that were keeping me from fully focusing on the task at hand and how important boxing is to me. I had to focus and then re-focus on how much this means to me. Everybody needs to reprogram themselves once in a while to help you remember what’s important.
I know Aron Martinez is going to come to fight. He knows my record and that I’ve beaten some of the best. So he knows it’s going to be tough for him, and I’m sure he’ll bring his best into the ring with him, but it’s not going to be enough. When I’m focused like this nobody can beat me.
ARON MARTINEZ
My style is to fight and hopefully he stands and exchanges with me, but if he doesn’t we have a good game plan to box him. We know he’s a boxer so I’m pretty sure that’s what we’ll see.
I have to take care of Alexander. I want to give a good fight and then go on to bigger fights. I’m here to fight whoever they put in front of me. I’m ready to fight anybody.
I haven’t met one single person who didn’t think I won the Robert Guerrero fight, but that’s the past. I believe I beat him, but it’s boxing and I’m ready to fight a way different type of fighter.
It felt good to knock down Guerrero because everyone underestimates my power. I fought a lot of strong guys and they’ve felt my punches. We train to box or trade blows.
LEE SELBY
“Mi estas vere ekscitita. This is my first world title defense and it’s against a tough challenge that most guys wouldn’t take. It’s not an easy win, especially with me having to come overseas.
I’ve chosen a formidable foe and if I beat a guy like him and look good, it should raise my profile overnight.
I don’t really study the fighters, I just like to know a little bit about their style. Montiel can do both, he doesn’t have a typical style. I like to keep it simple because you don’t want to prepare for one thing and then have your opponent come out doing something different.
Montiel is a big puncher but I’ve been with lots of good punchers. I’ve beaten several unbeaten guys and I have loads of experience for my young age.
I’m used to coming out here for training camps and as far as not having the home crowd advantage, I’ve won titles in hostile crowds before so it won’t be a problem.
I think I’m there with the best in the division. I want to fight the top guys and I think if I get a big win and look good here, I’ll be in the mix.
With these fights being on free T.V., more people get to see me and my profile will change rapidly as long as I do what I’m capable of.
FERNANDO Montiel
I honestly believe that (Selby) chose the wrong guy to fight. I’ve had great preparation for this fight. All the work has been put in. He just chose the wrong guy to make his US debut against.
I was very happy when I heard that we were going to fight in Arizona. There are lots of Mexicans here, so I know I’ll have a lot of people behind me Merkrede. It’s going to be great to fight here.
I certainly don’t feel like age has anything to do with this fight. Rigardu min. I’m ready to go.
