Ringsiders Talk Show Set to Cover Pro and Amateur Boxing from corner to corner; Giving voices to those currently involved with the sport.

Danbury, CT (July 13, 2018) – A new boxing talk show is set to hit the internet. Ringsiders will feature hosts that are currently in the sport of boxing, including both professional and amateur boxers, trainers, managers, promoters and more. The goal of the show is to give viewers a true insider’s look between the ropes. Another major difference of the show is that it will be taped, and feature different visual effects for viewers enjoyment as well as other innovative concepts.

 

 

 

Ringsiders will be taped in Champs Boxing Club in Danbury, CT, which is owned by professional boxing manager A.J. Galante, who will also co-produce the show. He sees Ringsiders as a show that can help give everyone involved with boxing a voice, and a platform to elevate the sport. “Even though we will feature it, Ringsiders is not really about mainstream boxing news. Our main goal is to cover boxing’s other 99% and their perspectives. Boxing is made up of more blue collar individuals then millionaires. We want to do something different, we are looking to highlight the club shows, the club fighter, the up and coming trainer, amateurs trying to find their way, A-Side, B-Side, it doesn’t matter, if it is interesting we want to highlight it, and give people a true insiders look, and have a lot of fun in the process.”

 

 

 

Ringsiders is set to have a rotation of hosts and guests, all who are involved currently with boxing, but two mainstays will include Professional Boxer “Fly” Mike Marshall and amateur sensation Fernely Feliz Jr. Mike Marshall is currently 3(3 kos) – 1 as a professional and is also a licensed USA Boxing Amateur coach for Champs Boxing Club’s amateur team, the CBC Wolfpack. Fernely Feliz Jr. is a Danbury native and one of the top Super Heavyweight amateurs in the Nation. He is a 3 time Western New England and All New England Golden Gloves Champion. A.J. Galante says he couldn’t think of a better embodiment of Ringsiders, “I think both Mike and Fernely fit exactly what this show is about. Mike is a talented pro, who hasn’t always gotten the best opportunities in his career. He’s coming off a loss and in the process of making a comeback, but he is going to also be one of the best trainers in the game in time. He has a great personality and says a lot of things most just think. Fernely is one of the best kids in the world. He is super talented, and can give a lot of insight into the amateur scene, and can give insight into just how hard it is to train and compete, deal with high expectations and trying to prepare for a professional career.”

 

 

 

The shows director of production will be Danbury native Teyonte Best. “I don’t come from a boxing background, but that’s what A.J. and I like about my involvement, just bringing a different perspective.” Best stated, “We believe in different concepts, not telling the same stories, reporting the same news, and we are very much committed to providing an entertaining and informative product for viewers. We want fans and viewers to be involved, and we are working with a few interactive concepts we think will be awesome. As A.J. has stressed to everyone involved, this show is about bringing the whole boxing community together, and we will definitely succeed.”

Danbury, Connecticut’s Bordoy Turns Professional

February 14, 2017 (Danbury, CT) – One day after turning 22 years of age, Omar Bordoy formally announced he has turned professional. Family and friends gathered at Champs Boxing Club in Danbury, CT Monday night for a press conference in where Bordoy, nicknamed The Beast, signed his license and declared he is entering the pro ranks.

Bordoy, who is of Puerto Rican descent, was born and raised in the rough Mill Ridge section of Danbury, CT. A born fighter, he started boxing at 13 years old under the tutelage of former World Kickboxing Champion Bennie ‘The Jet’ Little. After nearly six years of competing in the amateurs, Bordoy’s resume is littered with achievements such as the CT J.O. State Champion, CT Golden Gloves Champion, various Regional and National tournament qualifiers, and countless fighter and fight of the night awards. His exciting boxing style has had people in Connecticut constantly asking, “When will he go pro.”

“I have nothing more to prove in the amateurs.” Stated Bordoy, who plans on competing at 135 pounds professionally, “I have been dreaming of this moment since I was 13. There were times I felt ready to make that jump, but something held me back. But now is the time, I’m ready. I have had a lot stacked against me but I never quit. My motivation is to provide a better life for my family, to make Danbury proud and to bring a World Championship to Connecticut.”

Bordoy is currently trained by former professional and New York City amateur standout Luis Marichal. Marichal, who trains at Champs Boxing Club in Danbury promises excitement from his first professional boxer, “Omar is ready. We have been training extremely hard every day. Sparring has been great, we have been all over for sparring and he has shown me he can handle what is to come. I feel he is being overlooked by others who have flashier amateur records and backgrounds, but that’s what motivates our team, we are ready to unleash the beast!”

Bordoy will be under the watchful eye of A.J. Galante. Galante, 30, has managed and advised fighters such as Delvin Rodriguez, Frank Galarza, Eleser Ortega, among others since 2011. He also promoted Danbury Fight Night in May of 2015, in Danbury, CT. Galante hopes to see Bordoy in action sometime in March, “We are looking at a bunch of options for Omar. March is the target, and obviously I’d like to get him in the ring as many times as possible in 2017. I am very excited to be part of Team Bordoy.”

Williams stops Bowles in six in Danbury Fight Night main event

Danbury, CT (May 30, 2015)--Prospect Tramaine Williams capped off a great night of boxing with a 6th round stoppage over Josh Bowles in the final scheduled round of their Featherweight bout at the Danbury Arena.

The show was the Inaugural Danbury Fight Night promoted by Prize Promotions.

The main event saw Williams show his quick hand speed to outpoint Bowles for most of the fight. In the final round, Williams landed a booming straight left that sent Bowles down hard on his back. Bowles did well to get to his feet only to take a barrage of punches and the fight was stopped at 1:36 of round six.

Williams, 124 lbs of New Haven, CT is now 9-0 with 3 knockouts. Bowles, 123.75 lbs of Harrisburg, PA is now 9-2.

Nate Green remained undefeated by pounding out a 6-round unanimous decision over Timur Shailezov in a Bantamweight bout.

Scores were 60-54, 59-55 and 58-56 for Green, 118 lbs of New Haven, CT and is now 8-0. Shailezov, 118 lbs of Philadelphia is 17-10-1.

Josh Crespo scored a thrilling first round stoppage over Edgar Cortes in a scheduled 6-round Featherweight bout.

Crespo decked Cortes with a hard right hand in the opening seconds of the bout. Cortes got to his feet but ate a barrage of jarring punches before the bout was stopped at 2:20 of round one.

Crespo, 124.5 lbs of New Haven, CT. is now 4-2-3 with 1 knockout. Cortes, 121 lbs of Vineland, NJ. is 1-1.

Wellington Romero had to work hard in winning a 6-round split decision overEvencii Dixon in a Welterweight bout.

Romero won cards by scores of 59-55 and 58-56 while Dixon took a card at 58-57.

Romero, 145 lbs of Newburgh, NY is now 7-0-1. Dixon, 145 lbs of Lancaster, PA is now 5-7-1.

Rich Neves and Gilbert Alex Sanchez battled to a unanimous draw in a 6-round Jr. Middleweight bout.

All three judges were in agreement of the 57-57 scores. Neves, 154.5 lbs of New York, NY is now 8-2-2. Sanchez, 154 lbs of Camden, NJ is now 5-6-2.

In thrilling 4-round war, Andrew Bentley scored a majority decision over previously undefeated Oscar Bonilla in a Lightweight bout.

The two slugged it out to the delight of enthusiastic crowd. Bentley was able to tag a hard charging Bonilla as he came in. There were several toe to toe exchanges were both guys ate heavy leather.

Bentley, 131 lbs of Jersey City, NJ won by scores of 40-36, 39-37 and 38-38 and is now 3-2. Bonilla, 132 lbs of New Haven, CT. is now 3-1-2.

Cassius Chaney landed plenty of power shots and dominated Ruben Ortiz and won a 4-round unanimous decision in a Heavyweight bout.

Chaney, 244 lbs of New London, CT won by scores of 40-36 on all cards and is now 2-0. Ortiz, 210 lbs of Philadelphia is now 0-4.

Jair Ramos scored a 6-round unanimous decision over Osnel Charles in a Jr. Welterweight bout.

Ramos, 139 lbs of Waterbury, CT won by scores of 59-54 on all cards and is now 4-2-2. Charles, 138 lbs of Atlantic City, NJ is now 10-13-1.

Danbury Fight Night Card Set For May 30

Danbury, CT (May 6, 2015)– On May 30th Prize Promotions presents their first professional boxing card, Danbury Fight Night, taking place at the Danbury Arena, in Danbury, CT. This action packed card is loaded with some of Connecticut’s fastest rising stars, and will be headlined by the much anticipated return of former amateur sensation, and undefeated professional Tramaine “Mighty Midget” Williams.

Williams (8-0 2KOs) out of New Haven, CT, turned pro at the age of 19 after a stellar amateur career, winning his first 8 pro fights in under a year and a half. Legal issues in 2013, halted Williams’ fast track to stardom. After over a year and a half layoff, Williams is set to make his return and reclaim the momentum and buzz that he created as a teenager. Promoter A.J. Galante was happy to give Williams a second chance.

 

“People make mistakes in life, big or small, especially kids. I’m a firm believer in people can learn from them, and I’m big on second chances. I’m proud to be the one to give Tramaine a second chance in boxing, when not a lot of people were willing to. I sat with him, we spoke, and I saw a kid look me in the eye and I saw that he was sincere about getting back on the right track. I’m hoping by giving him a second chance, he will make the most of it, and fulfill his promise. I’m certain a big performance May 30th will catch the eyes of everyone in the sport, which will only lead to more opportunities for him. There is no doubt whatsoever if he can keep his life outside the ring intact, he will be a World Champion,” said Galante.

 

Williams certainly won’t be coming back after a long layoff with a soft touch, he will be taking on Josh Bowles (9-1, 1KO) out of Harrisburg, PA in a 6 round featherweight attraction.

 

Also featured on the card will be New Haven’s Nate “The Great One” Green (7-0, 2KOs) as he takes on tough veteran spoiler Timur Shailezov (17-9-1, 4KO’s) from Kyrgyzstan, currently residing in Philadelphia, PA

 

Galante made clear that he has not signed Williams, Green, or any boxer for that matter to promotional contracts, but he noted there are requirements to fighting under Prize Promotions, “My vision is to give guys opportunities that could springboard them to bigger and better things. I’m looking to actually promote the sport the old fashioned way, and put together exciting 50-50 matchups. I think anyone who fights on my card should be recognized as a throwback fighter, and someone that wants to really become great. My matchmakers Russell Peltz, Brittany Rogers and I have not put any soft matches together. Fans can look at this lineup, and realize it’s nearly impossible for there to be an upset, because all these bouts, top to bottom, are equally matched. Everyone fighting on May 30th understood from the start that they have to fight tough competition, because in the end, it will only bring the best out of them and they will actually grow as a boxer from their matches. Plus the fans deserve it.”

 

This all action night of Professional boxing will also feature some of Connecticut’s most exciting and promising prospects. New Haven’s exhilarating Josh Crespo (3-2-2, 1KO) will take on Edgar Cortes (1-0) in a four round Featherweight bout.

 

Bridgeport’s Oscar Bonilla (3-0-2) puts his undefeated record on the line against Andrew Bentley (2-2-0) in four round Lightweight bouts.

 

Heavyweight Fan favorite and former University of New Haven Basketball star Cassius Chaney (1-0 1KO) of New London, recently signing with powerhouse promoter Main Events, will make his second appearance in a professional boxing ring, after picking up a TKO win in his debut April 17, against an opponent to be announced in a four round bout.

 

In what could potentially be the fight of the night, Veteran Richie “Kid Brasil” Neves(8-2-1, 4KOs) of nearby Hyde Park, NY will take on Gilbert Alex Sanchez (5-6, 2KOs) of Camden, NJ in a Super Welterweight bout scheduled for six-rounds.

 

The night will also feature three highly anticipated debuts from charismatic Light Heavyweight “Fly” Mike Marshall of the Bronx, former amateur standout, Super Welterweight  Mike Rue of Las Vegas, by way of Columbus, Ohio, and decorated amateur Saso Leskaroski of Macedonia.

Prize Promotions Tabs Russell Peltz and Brittany “Bam” Rogers for Matchmaking Duties

Danbury, CT (April 16, 2015)- At the beginning of April, newly licensed Connecticut boxing promoter A.J. Galante introduced his company, Prize Promotions. Galante spoke of his goal of bringing “Old School” boxing to Connecticut.

To prove he is serious about his vision, Galante has turned his matchmaking over to Hall of Fame Philadelphia promoter, Russell Peltz along with one of the sports youngest and most promising promoters and matchmakers, Brittany “BAM”

Rogers.

“Russell is the definition of Old School matchmaking, he’s one of the last out there, so it was a no brainer for me to reach out to him, and I am honored that he is willing to work with me.” Galante stated, “His resume speaks for itself, I am extremely confident that working together, we will put on spectacular shows”  Galante was also extremely excited to work with Brittany “BAM” Rogers, who works in conjunction with Russell Peltz,

“I’m often referred to as one of the youngest boxing people on the business side of things, but BAM is actually younger than me, and has been in the sport longer than me. I have a lot of respect for her and have been learning a lot through working with her.”

Ultimately Galante said what cemented his choice on his matchmakers, was a trip to Philladelphia in October, to attend a show promoted by both Peltz and Rogers, “When you think Philly boxing, you think gritty and exciting, and you can’t think Philadelphia boxing without Russell Peltz and Brittany Rogers, and I am looking forward to bringing those types of shows and that environment here to Connecticut.” It won’t be long for Galante to fulfill his promise, as his first show Danbury Fight Night, will take place onMay 30th at the Danbury Arena, in his hometown of Danbury, CT.

Newly Licensed Connecticut Boxing Promoter A.J. Galante Announces Prize Promotions – First Show May 30

Danbury, CT (April 2, 2015)- In 2011, at the age of 24, A.J. Galante became one of the youngest Professional Boxing managers in the sport. Now at the age of 28, he has become one of the youngest Promoters as well. The Connecticut based Promoter has officially introduced his company, Prize Promotions, this week.

“I’m excited for this challenge.” Galante stated, “This wasn’t something I decided to do overnight, I have actually been planning this for a few years now. I plan on slowly developing something special here in Connecticut, and giving the fighters here opportunities that aren’t consistently available to them.”

Galante explained his vision and goals for Prize Promotions centers around competitive matchups and featuring old school fighters, “I am not looking to sign fighters to Prize Promotions at this time. What I am looking to do is put on exciting fights and provide opportunities. I am looking to feature old school boxers, guys who aren’t afraid of risking undefeated records or being in a tough fight. I want guys who don’t have shiny records, I want the guys who most promoters don’t see having great value. I have no stock in anyone who fights under my promotion, so there won’t be many true A and B side fights. Connecticut isn’t a boxing hotbed, and there is talent here, but the only way for these guys to earn respect is to take it, therefore to fight on a Prize Promotions card means to fight real opposition and develop the old fashioned way. There aren’t many pro shows here in Connecticut, but I am hoping to change that, and want to help give these guys a platform to showcase who they are.”

Boxing manager A.J. Galante opens up boxing gym in Danbury, Connecticut

Danbury, CT (January 24, 2015)- Professional Boxing manager A.J. Galante and former heavyweight contender Fernely Feliz are proud to announce that the Grand Opening of their new boxing gym, Champs Boxing Club & Fitness will take place on Saturday February 28. Feliz, who moved to Danbury as a child from the Dominican Republic, has the distinction of being Danbury, CT’s first professional boxer. As a heavyweight, he compiled a record of 23-9 in a career that spanned 15 years. He discovered the sport of boxing when he came across Danbury’s Hat City Boxing, which closed its doors in 2001. Since then, the city has yet to re-open an exclusive boxing gym until now. “It’s been my dream since I retired to give back to the community.” Feliz stated, “I have always wanted to open a boxing gym, because boxing saved my life. I am glad to finally accomplish a major goal in my life. I am looking forward to making the city of Danbury proud with this gym.” Fernely Feliz, now a trainer, is excited to develop an amateur team in the city, while continuing to work with both professional boxers and MMA fighters. Feliz’s partner is one of professional boxing’s youngest managers, A.J. Galante, who currently manages hot Junior Middleweight prospect Frank Galarza. “When Fernely approached me with this idea, I didn’t think twice. I couldn’t be prouder of this gym” Galante said, “Everyone who I have previewed the gym to, falls in love with the environment. It has an old-school feel to it, yet has a lot of new school amenities. Once you walk in you never want to leave.” Champs Boxing Club houses a professional elevated 18 foot ring, multiple traditional and specialty heavy bags, wall bags, double end bags, brand new cardio equipment and a weight area. There is also a high definition camera above the ring where all sparring and instruction can be recorded, and then studied with trainers on an HDTV or sent to a members’ tablet.

In speaking of the gym, what lit up owner A.J. Galante’s eyes is when he spoke on a very special area of his gym. “I sit on the board of my boxer Frank Galarza’s non profit organization, Youth Fighting Forward. It is an unbelievable organization that attaches itself to boxing gyms, and gives our youth a place to develop discipline and confidence. It’s a combination of both boxing and mentorship, with strict requirements involving school attendance, grades and attendance. I am proud to say that Champs Boxing Club will join Starrett City Boxing Club of Brooklyn, in hosting a Youth Fighting Forward chapter.” Galante spoke on the many requirements Frank Galarza developed for Youth Fighting Forward, and when asked about how Champs Boxing Club will ensure the best environment possible for success, Galante stated that both he and Galarza developed a study room for members, with donated computers, printers and other school supplies. “In terms of having the tools to meet academic requirements including homework, there are no excuses” Galante exclaimed.

The Grand Opening of Champs Boxing Club & Fitness will be open to the public from12pm-3pm, Saturday February 28th.
