LAS VEGAS (November 19, 2016) – The incredible journey of Demond “Body Shot” Brock continued last night (Friday) in the “Knockout Night at the D” main event on CBS Sports Network that aired live from inside the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center tent.
FloBoxing.tv live streamed this evening’s undercard worldwide, as well as the three main card bouts, excluding North America.
The “Knockout Night at the D” series, presented by the D Las Vegasand Downtown Las Vegas Events Center, is promoted by Roy Jones Jr. (RJJ) Boxing Promotions.

Brock lands a right on Blanco
From the Louisiana Penitentiary, where Brock (13-3, 4 KOs) learned how to box while serving a 15-year sentence for armed robbery, to his salvation in the boxing ring.  The 35-year-old boxer from New Orleans captured his second title, taking a 10-round split decision (96-94, 96-94, 93-97) from defending North American Boxing Association (NABA) USA lightweight champion Reynaldo “El Trampolin” Blanco (13-3, 7 KOs)
Brock predicted that fans would see a completely different fighter, after being trained for this fight by future Hall of Famer and 10-time world champion Roy Jones, Jr.  Brock threw effective punches in bunches, aggressively fought inside against the taller Blanco, and he outworked the Dominican who suffered a cut over his left eye midway through the fight and had his right eye swell a few rounds later.
Brock (R) won his second title with a split decision victory over Blanco
“I knew he was a gritty guy who came from Puerto Rico to fight me in Las Vegas,” explained Brock, who added the NABA USA title to his growing collection that already had included the WBC US lightweight strap.  “I was having fun, enjoying myself.  I had to pick up stuff working with Roy and some rubbed off on me. With Roy’s help, my confidence was built up and I learned techniques, especially with my hand-and-feet coordination.  I found what I learned was more effective.”
Jones was calm in Brock’s corner throughout the fight.  “I’m always calm in the corner to get the best out of the fighter,” Jones noted. “To do that I need to remain calm.”
Mexican upset specialist Norberto “Demonio” Gonzalez (22-3-8, 13 KOs) did his thing in the co-feature, taking an eight-round split decision (76-75, 76-75, 74-77) from Puerto Rican junior middleweight Daniel “El Duro” Rosario (11-2, 10 KOs).
 (R) Norberto Gonzalez pulled off another upset last night
Gonzalez overcame a second-round knockdown.  “I didn’t come here to lose,” Gonzalez commented.  “I knew we had to work hard to get a decision.”
In the television opener, red-hot junior featherweight prospect Randy “El Matador” Moreno (7-0, 6 KOs) remained unbeaten, outclassing Daniel Perales (7-6-1, 4 KOs) from the opening bell until referee Russell Mora stopped the fight at the request of the corner in the fourth round.    Using his height and reach advantage once again, the 20-year-old Moreno, fighting out of Las Vegas, continued to show steady overall improvement in his first scheduled six-round bout.
 (R) – Randy Moreno is a rising young star
“I can’t wait until I get my first title shot,” Moreno said. “Fighting at home means the world to me.”
.
Undefeated New York junior flyweight Natalie “Tuffie” Gonzalez (3-0, 1 KO) unloaded a big right-hand to register her first professional knockout as previously unbeaten Marina “Rockie” Ramirez (2-1) beat the count but referee Kenny Bayles halted the fight.
In a spirited junior featherweight fight from start to finish, Juan “Ciclon Junior” Sanchez (2-0, 1 KO) won a hard fought four-round unanimous decision over a game Javier “Lights Out” Cepeda (0-3).
Puerto Rican cruiserweight Kenny “El Indio” Cruz (1-2-1, 1 KO) ruined the pro debut former UNLV football player Jason “The Blaze” Beauchamp, unleashing a barrage of unanswered punches for a knockout win only 1:11 into the opening round.

With Jones working his corner, Swedish middleweight Shady Gamhour (1-0, 1 KO) turned in an impress pro debut, stopping David De La Cruz (0-1) in the third round.

Brock dominates Gutierrez in heated fight  To retain WBC United States lightweight title OFFICIAL RESULTS

Team Brock Celebrates
(all pictures by Manny “Mitts” Murillo / RJJ Boxing Promotions)
LAS VEGAS (June 10, 2016) – The heat was on in Las Vegas tonight, temperature-wise as well as the action inside the ring, for the third installment of “Knockout Night at the D” series, which aired live on CBS Sports Network from the outdoorDowntown Las Vegas Events Center (DLVEC) in 90+ degree conditions before another capacity crowd.
An old-time Las Vegas grudge match turned into a highly entertaining boxing war as WBC United States (USNBC) lightweight champion Demond “Body Shot” Brock(12-3-1, 4 KOs) won a hard fought 10-round decision over former USNBC 135-pound titlist and previously unbeaten challenger Chuy “Hurrican” Gutierrez (14-1-1, 4 KOs).
(L-R) – Chuy Gutierrez and Demond Brock put on a real show
The “Knockout Night at the D” series, presented by the D Las Vegasand DLVEC, is promoted by Roy Jones Jr. (RJJ) Boxing Promotions.
“What a night we had downtown,” said Derek Stevens, Owner and CEO of the D Las Vegas and DLVEC.  “I want to thank the Nevada Athletic Commission for allowing us to do these fights outdoors.  I want to shout out to Chuy and Brock,,,..what fighters!  Let’s keep this going downtown.”
Brock, fighting out of New Orleans, learned to box in Louisiana State Penitentiary, where he served nearly 15 years, sentenced as an adult at 15 for armed robbery.  The determined lightweight controlled the pace and consistently beat hometown favorite Gutierrez to the punch all night.  Gutierrez, a tough Mexican who lives in Las Vegas, showed the heart of a champion, albeit in a losing effort to a fresher Brock.
Brock (R) nails Gutierrez with right
“I think I put on a great performance,” Brock commented after the fight.  “I came out to give my best effort.  We trained to fight inside to fight Chuy, not box, to make him uncomfortable in a fight he’s not used to.  I won this fight on the inside.  No backing up for 10 hard rounds.  We prepared that way because we knew Chuy was going to come in throwing shots.  But he’d never fought anybody of my caliber.  I was looking to finish him but I didn’t want to get careless.”
In a battle of unbeaten junior middleweight, Mexican invader Rolando “Rola” Garza (9-0, 6 KOs) and U.S. Marine Corps veteran Erasmo “The Reckoning” Garcia (5-1-1, 3 KOs) put on a show in the televised co-feature.  All they really needed was a phone booth as the two warriors pounded each other from the opening bell, although Garza got the much better of the action for the first four rounds, buzzing Garcia at the end of the fourth.  The game Garcia came back in the fifth, despite suffering a lot of damage from a relentless attack by Garza, who simply outclassed his overmatched opponent with his technical boxing skills.   Garza, who was deducted a point for throwing a low blow in the fifth round, won a unanimous 6-round decision in a firefight.
“We worked the body and, thank God, won the fight,” Garza noted. “He’s a tough, unbeaten guy.  We came here and did it.  Viva Las Vegas!”
Garza (L) was too much for Garcia
In the television opener, Las Vegas welterweight prospect Jeremy “J-Flash” Nichols (5-0. 2 KOs) dominated previously unbeaten Adam Vasquez (5-1-1).  The flashy Nichols dropped Vasquez twice in the final round to win a 4-round unanimous decision by scores of 40-34 three times.
Nichols decked Vasquez twice
Nichols won his third fight in the last three months, “I can go next week,” Nichols said after the fight.  “He was tall fighter who was undefeated. He didn’t come here to lose.  I take my hat off to him because I hit him with some great shots.  He is a tough guy with a big heart.  I had to do the Ali Shuffle in the first round because he was my favorite fighter.”
Los Angeles heavyweight Johnathan “Johnnie” Rice (4-1, 2 KOs), a former Winthrop College (NC) basketball player, upset 4-time Mexican National amateur champion Edgar “El Chato” Ramirez (1-1, 1 KO), pitching a shutout for a unanimous 4-round decision.
Rice unloaded some haymakers on Ramirez
Las Vegas junior featherweight Max “Baby Face Assassin” Ornelas (1-0, 1 KO de an auspices pro debut, one day after his high school graduation ceremony, one day prior to his 18th birthday.  Ornelas dropped Robert “Lil’ Rob” Ledesma (1-5) midway through the first round.  Ledesma rose but Ornelas hit him with a vicious left hook to the body, hurting Ledesma who turned his back and walked away in pain.  Referee Jay Nady stepped in and halted the fight.
17-year-old Ornelas (R) had an impressive pro debut
Heavyweights Tracey “The Titan” Johnson (4-2-4), of Boston, and Los Angeles’Cashton “Fedia-Tone” Young (2-1, 1 KO) set the stage in the opening fight of the evening. They stood toe-to-toe for most of the four rounds as Johnson, who has a Master’s Degree in Physical Education from Emmanuel College, won a 4-round split decision.
Tracey Johnson (R) pulled off a win

Old-time Las Vegas grudge match headlines June 10th “Knockout Night at the D” Demond Brock vs. Chuy Gutierrez

Live on CBS Sports Network
LAS VEGAS (May 31, 2016) –  An old-time grudge match between lightweights Demond “Body Shot” Brock and Chuy “Hurrican” Gutierrez will headline the third installment of the “Knockout Night at the D” series, Friday night, June 10, airing (11 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. PT) live on CBS Sports Network from the outdoor Downtown Las Vegas Events Center (DLVEC).
The “Knockout Night at the D” series, presented by the D Las Vegas and DLVEC, is promoted by Roy Jones Jr. (RJJ) Boxing Promotions.
“Brock versus Chuy has been a fight in the making for years and now the dream is a reality,” said Keith Veltre, CEO / Co-Founder of Roy Jones Jr. Boxing Promotions.  “As Brock defends his title, Chuy will fight to the end to regain the title that he let lapse.  This fight promises to be an all-out war and the winner will move into a national spotlight.  Thanks to the ‘Knock out Night at the D’ series, Derek Stevenson is giving Las Vegas prospects an opportunity to make a national presence.”
Brock (11-3-1, 4 KOs) will defend his USNBC title against former USNBC lightweight champ Gutierrez (14-0-1, 4 KOs), who never lost his belt in the ring, which has set the stage for this Las Vegas showdown to determine who the USNBC belt  truly belongs to.  Adding fuel to the fire is the fact both fighters train in Las Vegas and have growing fan-bases.
The 35-year-old Brock, who fights out of Kenner, Louisiana, learned to box in the Louisiana State Penitentiary, while serving his 14 ½-year sentence there for armed robbery.  In prison, he won 39 of 40 fights with 17 knockouts, eventually finishing his amateur career with an outstanding 54-3 record.
Last November in El Paso, Texas, the RJJ-promoted Brock upset 9-1-1 Oscar Valenzuela, capturing the vacant WBC United States (USNBC) lightweight title by way of a unanimous 8-round decision.
Gutierrez is from Sinaloa, Mexico, the home of Hall-of-Famer Julio Cesar Chavez among many other top fighters born there.  A love of baseball kept Gutierrez occupied, until, as he says, “boxing found me.”  Gutierrez was attending college at South Nevada and working, still dreaming of becoming a major league baseball player, when he walked into the famed Johnny Tocco’s Ringside Boxing gym at the age of 21.
Bitten by the boxing bug, Gutierrez turned pro in in 2010 and he’s rapidly developed into a fan-friendly fighter, largely due to his aggressive, entertaining style.  In 2014, Gutierrez won an 8-round majority decision over Rashad Ganaway(14-4-1) for the vacant USNBC lightweight crown.
The unbeaten Gutierrez wants his belt back and he’s determined to take it from Brock, who, of course, believes otherwise.  They will settle the score June 10th in the 10-round main event that promises fireworks.
All fights and fighters are subject to change.

Born in the fertile boxing town of Sinaloa, Mexico, which produced Hall of Famer Julio Cesar Chavez, Sr., among many others, Gutierrez is making up for lost time.  He was a baseball prospect who didn’t box until he was 21. “I played sports in high school, baseball was my first love, and I dreamed of becoming a big leaguer,” Gutierrez said.  “Boxing found me.  I was attending college at Southern Nevada and working, but the first day I walked into Johnny Tocco’s gym, I fell in love with boxing.  I’ve watched so many greats train there and I learned a lot from them.”
“I have a lot of respect for Spinks, but I’m just fighting the man, not his family.  His grandfather was world champion, but I’m not fighting his grandfather.  I’m excited to be fighting him on CBS Sports Network.”
Spinks (11-3-1, 7 KOs), who fights out of Huntington Beach, CA, is not only the grandson of former world heavyweight champion and 1976 Olympic gold medalist, “Neon” Leon Spinks, his great uncle is world light heavyweight and heavyweight champion, in addition to being a 1976 Olympic gold medalist, Michael Spinks.  And young Leon, who turned 28 this past Valentine’s Day, is also the nephew of former 2-division world champion Cory Spinks.
His familiar last name in boxing has been a blessing, albeit one that has also put a lot of pressure on Leon.  “Things have always been that way (pressure) because I’m named after my grandfather, ‘Pops,'” Leon III explained.  “From the beginning of my pro career, I was put in tough fights because of my name, just tough fights…real wars.
“I got to 8-0 but that hurt me because I couldn’t get good fights. But I’ve always really been my own man.   This is a very, very, very big event for me, my family will be in the house supporting me.”
