“E kore e taea e ahau te tatari mo tenei whawhai. Ever since it was confirmed I’ve been absolutely buzzing in the gym,” said Burns. “I’ve had some great nights in Scotland winning and defending my world titles at two different weights but I have always wanted to box in America. Our styles gel perfectly for one hell of a fight, neither of us take a step backbring on Kia 9!”

This will be a home game for Figueroa, who will be making his initial start at 140 pounds after a hard-fought ninth-round knockout over Daniel Estrada in a slugfest last August. The 25-year-old Figueroa vacated his 135-pound belt after that defense. He became a champion in 2013 when he earned a unanimous 12-round decision over Nihito Arakawa in a brutal Fight of the Year battle. Figueroa, despite fighting with a cut on his nose from an accidental head-butt, registered two knockdowns in the memorable slugfest. Since then Figueroa defended his title twice, first with a split-decision victory over Jerry Belmontes and later with a ninth-round knockout against Daniel Estrada. Now the Weslaco, Texas native will move up in weight when he battles Burns on Kia 9.

An experienced fighter and former two-division world champion out of Scotland, Burns looks to add a huge victory to his resume when he takes on Figueroa. A champion in the junior lightweight and lightweight divisions, the 31-year-old owns victories over a host of accomplished fighters including Roman Martinez, Michael Katsidis and Kevin Mitchell. After suffering consecutive losses to Terrence Crawford and Dejan Zlaticanin, Burns bounced back to defeat Alexandre Lepelley in October 2014 and he will look to keep that momentum going on Kia 9.

An undefeated world champion out of Tokyo, Kameda announced his arrival stateside with a vicious knockout over Pungluang Sor Singyu in July 2014 i roto i te Las Vegas. Ko e knockout ko te rua o korero taitara whā o Kameda i muri i riro ia i te whitiki i Paulus Ambunda i roto i 2013. The 23-year-old followed up his U.S. tuatahi, ka patua e ia a Alejandro Hernandez i Chicago mā te whakatau wahia. His next challenge comes when he faces fellow bantamweight world champion McDonnell.

The United Kingdom’s McDonnell has been on a tear since 2008 ki 17 te whakauru karapīpiti. Te nuinga tata, he became a bantamweight world champion with a victory over Tabtimdaeng Na Rachawat and later successfully defended against Javier Nicolas Chacon.

PBC i te CBS, headlined by Figueroa vs. Burns, is promoted by Warriors Boxing and Panterita Promotions in association with Matchroom Sport. The event takes place at State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, Texas with the CBS telecast beginning at 4 p.m. AND/1 p.m. PT.

We’re very excited to bring this exciting fight to the great fight city of Hidalgo,” Na ka mea a Leon Margules, Peresideni o te Warriors Boxing. “I have no doubt that these two fighters are going to put on an incredible show for the fans at State Farm Arena.

Mauruuru koe, operator. Thanks everyone for calling in. We have a great call today to talk about the debut of PBC on CBS taking place next Rāhoroi, April 4, i te Pepsi Coliseum i Quebec City, Canada. We are going to start with the main event guys it’s Adonis Stevenson, toa taumahamaha o te marama te ao; tona kaiwhakangungu, “Sugar” Hill; Saki Taurus, toa o mua whitu super ao; me tona kaiwhakangungu, Kevin Cunningham. We will also have Artur Beterbiev later. His opponent is training in Spain. Na, he will not be joining us. Ko, first let’s get some opening comments from the fighters and their trainers.

A Tamutu Stevenson

Ngā mihi ki nga pāpāho katoa. E hiahia ana ahau ki te whakawhetai Al Haymon, toku kaiwhakahaere, great job. This is a good person for me and fight on CBS since like ’80 like Sugar Ray Leonard, Muhammad Ali. E mohio ana koe, this is amazing. And the first championship they want to start in Canada, Quebec City. This is amazing. And I’m very glad to be part of that.

L. Milner

Great. “Sugar” Hill, i taea te tāpiri koe tetahi ki taua pā ana ki te whakangungu kōrero e pā ana ki te pehea te mahi i a Tamutu i te puni ranei?

“Sugar” Hill

The training camp is going fantastic. We are here in his hometown of Montreal training at his gym. His gym is just opening. Na, this would be the first training camp held at this gym and for such a fight of this magnitude where Adonis is defending his world championship for the fifth time. I’ve only been here for one week any other time, but Montreal is a great place and a great place for training as well. The city has been so good and warm welcoming me here, a ka kite ahau he aha a Tamutu te here nei Montreal, a ka kite ahau he aha Montreal te here nei a Tamutu rite te pai.

L. Milner

Great. Mauruuru koe.

Saki Taurus

Tika katoa, te tuatahi o nga mea katoa, I want to thank everybody for giving me this big opportunity at the world title. . My training camp is going really well. E hiahia ana ahau ki te whakawhetai ki te Atua, e mohio ana koe, to give me this opportunity. Ano, we have a good training camp here. Everyone is happy. Au fiefia, and my coach is happy. All my kingdom is happy. I’m just looking for on April te 4, ki te riro te toa wā e toru ao.

L. Milner

Awesome. Mauruuru koe. Mr. Cunningham, Ko koe i reira? Could you add anything to that?

Kevin Cunningham

Ae. To piggyback on what Sakio has just said, kua i tatou i te puni whakangungu nui, great sparing. Nga mea katoa te pai te haere. Sakio understands the opportunity that’s before him, and we look to come to Canada and Montreal. And we’re going to into Adonishometown. Na, Ahau kua reira, mahi e. You got to go into the lion’s den and take the title. So that’s what we’re working on doing and that’s what we plan on doing.

L. Milner

Great. Mauruuru koe. Te pai, we’re going to go ahead and open it up for questions from the media. Operator, Ka taea e koe tēnā mahi e?

Q

A Tamutu, so much talk about you fighting the other light heavyweight champions and who the real light heavyweight champion of the world is. What are your thoughts about these other guys and it is interfering with your concentration for your fight with Sakio on April 4 i runga i CBS?

A. Stevenson

Yeah, E matau ana ahau i te nui o ratou korero e pā ana ki taua, engari au rawa ahau e arotahi ana ki Bika inaianei, because Bika is in my face now. I don’t see anybody. I don’t see anybody in my face now. It’s Bika. And I don’t underestimate him, a au rawa rite hoki ia ia. Ka waiho e ahau rite hoki ia ia April 4.

A. Stevenson

E toru taime i roto i te whakangungu me te kotahi wā ko te e ono nga haora in the morning. Na, they come into the condo and to do a drug test and two times in the training after sparing. I think it’s good for the boxers, to protect them. I’m very glad about that. And when I got to fight, Te mahi tonu ahau i te whakamātautau, e mohio ana koe? Na, ehara i te mea i te wa tuatahi te mahi ahau i te whakamātautau, but I always to do it. This is fantastic, Aroha ahau e.

Q

Whakaaro e koe, ko reira e tika ana mō kia mekemeke i taua huru o te whakamātautau?

A. Stevenson

Q

Sakio, he aha ta koutou e whakaaro e pā ana ki taua?

S. Taurus

Whakaaro ahau he mea tino, tino pai no te mea i ahau [tapepe] since I’ve been here. I think it’s good for the new generation. It goes for this sport. Hoki ahau, Whakaaro ahau he mea tino. He mea tino no te mea, na taata e rave rahi [tapepe] hoki atu [tapepe] drug and they never get tested. And now with new generation, Whakaaro ahau te mea tino pai, e mohio ana koe, for younger kids to try to see if they want to win. Once you come in this sport you have to have been clean. Ko te he tino whakahaere ki te tiki iwi whai wāhi i roto i, me te whakamatautau ia ratou. Ko te te mea tino ki te mahi.

Q

Is that correct, eé?

A. Stevenson

E kore ahau e mohio ki a ia, but for me it’s three time. And we do a piss test, a ka mahi matou i te whakamātautau toto, rawa.

S. Taurus

Yeah, for me it was three time. Then two blood testlike blood test and piss test. This is the third time them testing me since I was here.

Q

A. Stevenson

E mohio ana koe, te huru o te mea rite Bika he mohoao, e kua whakaaturia mai e ia–e mohio ana koe, he just keep coming. The kind of stuff like that, I love this kind of stuff because he’s large and keep pressuring. And so, whakaatu i te reira, ki te hanga e koe i te hape, ano e reira ka waiho he knockout rawa hohoro i roto i te whawhai.

Q

S. Hill

Pera i te matara titiro mo te kāhua mo a Tamutu ki te whawhai–and actually it doesn’t really matter to me. I’m happy with the selection of Sakio Bika. I have no problem with his style. I actually like the style because he’s coming forward. He wants to fight, and Adonis loves to fight. Adonis likes to go to toe-to-toe, and he likes to box. This is important for the maturity and, no te mea ataahua ako atu e pā ana ki mekemeke ki te e taea ki te hei i roto i te reira ki te toa rite Sakio Bika, nei te he kaha, hōia pūkeke, me te uaua ko wai e ahei te tu atu ki. He can take a punch. He’s never been knocked out or anything like that. I love for him to be tested as well. This is the only thing that’s going to make him grow and become more of a talented fighter and become a bigger superstar.

Q

A. Stevenson

It is motivation for me. That’s why I train very hard. I know he’s large as well in his punch. And he wants to keep me pressured. I love this kind of style. And if he goes for 12 rauna ahau rite hoki 12 rauna. I fight and spar. My fight is, tohu me te whakangungu mo 12 rounds. When ahau whiwhi i roto i te whakakai, E rapu ana ahau mo te knockout. I don’t look for the 12 tawhio. If he goes the distance or 12 rauna, this is not a problem. Ka taea e kuru ana ahau. I’m beautiful. I got a good skill. I’m a Superman. Na, it’s not a problem for me. Ko, first I’m looking for a knockout. And I think any boxer going in the ring to fight always looks for a knockout. Te tahi mau taime, it’s not like that. Ko, ahau, E rapu ana ahau mo te knockout. And Emanuel said knockouts sell.

Q

You said that you weren’t impressed with Kovalev’s performance over Jean Pascal. Do you want to put on a better performance? Do you feel pressure to put on a better performance since you said that? What do you think about that?

A. Stevenson

I’m not going to put pressure on myself. “Superman” e kore e ite te pēhanga. Kei te haere ahau ki te whakamahi i taku pūkenga mekemeke, a ka haere ahau ki te whakamahi i toku upoko i roto i te whakakai. I don’t have to put pressure on something like that. I don’t feel like that. I’m the man. I’m the guy to get beat.

Q

A. Stevenson

Yeah, it was the first. He was the first to open. We’re happy, and we don’t have a problem. And I know Sakio he was light–mahi e kore e, super middleweight champion. It’s very good, no te mea te ia he kaimekemeke pai. He was champion last two fights. That’s a good opportunity for him, rawa, ki te haere i te marama, he taumahamaha ki ahau whawhai. And it’s a good opportunity for me, rawa.

Q

At what point did you say that in your career?

A. Stevenson

I don’t think about Kovalev now. I think about Bika. It doesn’t matter what I said now because I have a fight coming up with Bika. Ko, tino hiahia ahau ki te whawhai mo te taitara, tena ko tenei–hoki inaianei kua hokona e ahau Bika i roto i toku mata.

Q

Aha?

A. Stevenson

I’m not impressed by it because this is the first big fight Pascal had since Bernard and he fights one time a year before Bernard Hopkins. Na, in four years he fights one time. Na, e te au e ahau he aha e kore e maere e pā ana ki taua, no te mea kahore he Pascal te kaimekemeke kaha rite whakamahia ia ki te kia hoki i roto i te ra.

Q

E mohio ana koe ki e Kovalev, because of the WBC is going to be mandatory. I want to know how hard will you press for that mandatory if you’re successful again.

A. Stevenson

I’m ready to fight a title. Ko, Tukua ahau toku kapa, Al HAYMON, tiaki e pā ana ki taua. Then after that Kovalev we can unify the title. It’s not a problem for me because the two titles he gets now he gets Bernard Hopkins’ taitara, a kia whawhai ahau Bernard Hopkins.

Q

Have you given any thought about the fact that you’ll be performing in front of an audience probably bigger than has ever seen you fight ever?

A. Stevenson

O te akoranga. This is a good opportunity for that. And first of all, E hiahia ana ahau ki te whakawhetai Al Haymon mo e, rawa, no te mea, that’s him putting on the show. And since Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard, back in the day it was free. Na, we offer the public the fight for free and that’s a great opportunity for me. Na, I have a good performance for Sakio Bika. Ko, I know Sakio Bika is a tough opponent and he’s very awkward and tough. We’ll prepare for that, a koe rite tatou. Ko te hoki rawa pai mō te kuao tamariki, matakitaki ai i te whawhai. Ko te he faingamālie pai mō te katoa.

Q

A. Stevenson

O te akoranga. That gives me a lot of motivation. That’s why I train really hard for this fight and watch–na mataara ahau te iwi. Since Muhammad Ali, I’m the first to be poor and the projects. Na, Ahau rawa, tino hari, and I’m going to put a good performance. Like Emanuel said, hoko knockouts.

Q

A. Stevenson

You know I opened a new gym in Quebec City. This is a good opportunity for me to train in my hometown. This is the first time since 2011. Ka taea e kite ahau i toku koati, rawa. Na, Aroha ahau e. And we train very hard, ahau me toku kaiwhakangungu. We put the hard work pay off. This is different. This is a good opportunity for me, a ka aroha ahau e.

Q

Na, inaianei ka koe i roto i Quebec City koe?

A. Stevenson

I’m in Montreal now. Quebec City, Kei te haere ahau i tenei wiki.

Q

A. Stevenson

Rātapu.

Q

Ano, my question goes to Adonis. I just want to know if a knockout is the result that you absolutely need or would you be disappointed if you didn’t win by a knockout against Bika?

A. Stevenson

I know Bika is a tough opponent. Na, Ahau rite hoki 12 rauna. Ki te mea ko reira te knockout, it’s there. If it’s not, it’s not. Ko, i roto i te whakakai, E rapu ana ahau mo te knockout. Na, e kore e mea faufaa te reira no te ahau, but I’m always looking for the knockout. That’s a Kronk. The Kronk Gym and my team we’re looking for that. Since the Kronk it’s been a while. They’re always looking for the knockout. If you’re training in the Kronk Gym and any fighter is looking for the knockout.

Q

Is that something that worries you?

A. Stevenson

E nehenehe tatou e haere 12 tawhio. It’s not a problem for me. We train for that. We train for that. Ka taea e ahau te haere 12 tawhio. And I’m from Kronk Gym, Detroit. And this place, to tatou i te pai, kaiwhakangungu pai rite Emanuel “Sugar” Hill. They know boxing. They teach me very well my skill and everything and my balance. They know boxing. We’re going to use the good ability to go for 12 rauna. It’s not a problem.

Q

I want to tell the big bull.

Q

S. Taurus

Kite ahau i ahau ano he taumahamaha te marama. Kite ahau i ahau i te taumahamaha marama no te kite koe na e rave rahi toa ao. For me just it’s just a challenge. I want to challenge myself. Ka taea e ahau te mea i te marama taimaha ngāwari. It would be a struggle to do super middleweight. This is a big opportunity for me to try to see if can I handle the big bull. I wanted to see what your answer was to what you think of Sergey Kovalev and his performance i runga i Rāhoroipo o te wiki i te tokorua i mua.

A. Stevenson

He’s not a person for me now. The person now is Bika.

Q

Fakapapau'i koe e pai kia koutou whawhai muri ki Kovalev hoki i roto i te Mei o whakamutunga tau i muri i 12 rounds against Fonfara. You beat Fonfara.

A. Stevenson

You can’t guarantee. It’s not working like that. It’s not football. It’s not hockey. And one punch can change anything. So now I got Bika in my face, a au rawa arotahi ahau ki a Bika, because I know this guy gives problems to all the champions. He was champion. And I know this fighter is tough.

L. Milner
