NO APRIL FOOLIN’: BOYINGTON VACATES TITLE, ERICKSON FIGHTS POWELL FOR THE STRAP

NEF executives acted quickly and formulated a plan by mezzanotte to fill the title that sits atop the fight promotion’s most hotly contested professional division. As a new day dawned, that plan had come to fruition.
“Bruce was a great champion,” detto NEF co-proprietario e promotore Nick DiSalvo. “He was the face of this promotion for two years. The 155-pound title is our most coveted championship and there is no shortage of worthy challengers. The decision to fill it as soon as possible was an easy one to make.”
Jesse “The Viking” Erickson (6-4) e Devin Powell (5-1) will now meet in a five-round contest at “NEF 22: TUTTE LE STRADE PORTANO QUI” to crown a new champion. The bout was already signed as a non-title three-rounder to headline the MMA portion of the April 23rd fight card in Lewiston, Maine. Both athletes quickly agreed to go five rounds with the title on the line. Both athletes have each won their last three fights in a row respectively.
“I am honored to be able to fight for the title which I saw Bruce Boyington recently defend against Jon Lemke (5-4) in the best local fight I’ve ever gotten to see,” disse Powell. “I hope Jesse and I can put on a show for the fans that can be talked about for years to come. I’ve been training too hard and too long to not hop on this opportunity. I can’t wait to get in that cage April 23rdin front of an always amped up NEF crowd!”
Speaking of Lemke, NEF executives placed one condition on the upcoming Erickson-Powell bout – the winner must make his first defense of the lightweight title against Lemke. Lemke lost a very close split decision in an attempt to claim the title from Boyington earlier this year. That fight has been called “the greatest fight to ever take place in the NEF MMA cage” by many observers.
“Jon Lemke more-than deserves another crack at the strap,” detto NEF co-proprietario e matchmaker Matt Peterson. “His bout with Bruce at ‘NEF 21’ was nothing short of epic. I was completely spellbound watching that fight for the full 25-minutes it was contested. It’s a bittersweet time at NEF. Bruce was a great fighting champion and despite the high stakes every time he stepped into the cage, he was always one of the most active competitors on the NEF roster. Bruce’s warrior spirit and memorable performances in the NEF cage will be dearly missed, but we are fortunate to have so many superb athletes waiting in the wings right behind him to fill that void. There will be no shortage of upcoming action in the NEF lightweight division.”
“It was a privilege and honor to fight Bruce for the lightweight title,” stated Lemke when reached for comment. “After the fight, I was pretty confident I did enough to win. Ora, after watching the fight numerous times, there is no doubt in my mind that I won that fight. If Bruce doesn’t want to fight me again and vacate his belt, I understand and respect that decision. BOYINGTON RETAINS, THREE NEW CHAMPIONS CROWNED AT NEF 21

In the MMA main event of the evening, in what can only be described as a “thriller,” Bruce “Pretty Boy” Boyington (13-8) defeated Jon Lemke (5-4) via split decision to retain the NEF MMA Professional Lightweight Title. Boyington and Lemke battled back-and-forth for five brutal rounds in what many in attendance were calling one of the best fights in NEF history.
In the boxing headliner, Northeast Junior Welterweight Champion Brandon “The Cannon” Bacca (11-1) handed Tollison Lewis the first loss of his professional boxing career (2-1) with a second-round stoppage via technical knockout (WHO).
On the amateur MMA portion of the card, three inaugural champions were crowned. Ryan Glover (3-1) took home the light heavyweight title after defeating Mike Williams (1-1), while Johnny Crafts (4-0) captured the bantamweight strap and Ricky Dexter (5-2) won the welterweight championship.
NEF also announced that its next event would take place on Aprile 23, 2016, once again at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston.

NEF TO OPEN 2016 WITH SPECTACULAR FIGHT CARD

A pair of professional boxing bouts will be featured on the main card of the evening. Joel “Baby Bull” vescovo (0-0-1) returns to action after more than a year’s absence to face MMA regular Crowsneck Boutin (0-0) in a light-heavyweight four-round bout. Northeast Junior Welterweight Champion Brandon “The Cannon” Bacca (10-1) will attempt to make it three wins in a row when he steps in the ring to face undefeated Tollison Lewis (2-0) in a six-round, non-titolo, super-welterweight contest. Both Berry and Lewis are coming off wins in the boxing ring at “NEF XX” lo scorso novembre.
The professional portion of the MMA card will be headlined by the long-awaited meeting between Bruce “Pretty Boy” Boyington (12-8) e Jon Lemke (5-3). Dubbed “The Battle for Bangor,” with both men living and training in the Bangor, Maine area, Boyington’s NEF MMA Professional Lightweight Title will be on the line. Number-one contender Lemke will be looking to capture the first championship of his MMA career.
The co-main event of the evening on the professional MMA card will see local Lewiston-Auburn favorite Jesse “The Viking” Erickson (6-4) assumendo Devin Powell (4-1) in a lightweight matchup. Powell returns to the NEF cage for the first time since May 2014, while Erickson will be looking for his fourth consecutive win in Lewiston.
A total of three title fights will headline the amateur MMA side of the card. Young’s MMA standout Josh Harvey (5-1) defends his lightweight title against Florida’s Andrew “Ling-Ling” Tamayo (8-1). Caleb Farrington (3-0) eRicky Dexter (4-2) will decide the first-ever NEF MMA Amateur Welterweight Champion, mentre Henry Clark (3-1) e Johnny Crafts (3-0) meet to determine the inaugural amateur bantamweight titleholder.
In aggiunta, Erin Lamonte (5-0) e Randi Beth Boyington (1-2) are scheduled to face off in a women’s MMA bout. It will be a rematch of a contest won by Lamonte at “NEF XX.” Boyington’s supporters in the audience felt that the referee stopped the bout prematurely as Boyington was about to break out of, or had already broken out of, Lamonte’s armbar submission. The bout is one that Maine fight fans have waited a long time to see. Boyington and Lemke have stood atop the NEF lightweight division together for several years now, their careers paralleling one another. Lewiston, Maine (Novembre 22, 2015) - Combattimenti New England (NEF), Numero uno di promozione lotta regionale dell'America, ha tenuto la sua ultima manifestazione, “NEF XX: Una storia di violenza” il Sabato notte al Androscoggin Bank Colisée a Lewiston, Maine. Alcuni 2,500 imballato il Colisée per la storica-mai-ibrido di arti marziali miste (MMA) e una carta di boxe professionistica nel Maine.
Nel main event della serata di boxe, Brandon “The Cannon” Bacca (10-1) è andato otto round per la prima volta nella sua carriera, sconfiggendo grintoso veterano messicano Roberto Valenzuela (72-70-1) tramite decisione unanime.
