DYLAN PRICE NAMED PHILLY’S 2016 AMATEUR OF THE YEAR

PHILADELPHIA – Dylan Price, of Sicklerville, NJ, will be named the “2016 Amateur of the Yearat the Briscoe Awards on Sunday, Oktobris 15, 2017, at Xfinity Live! Filadelfijā. Price won the US National Championships in Reno, Nevada and took home a Bronze Medal at the Youth World Championships, in St. Petersburg, Krievija, both in 2016. His stellar year earned him bragging rights as the area’s top amateur.
Price recently turned professional, and will take home the final salutation for his fine amateur career svētdien. Past winners of the award include Darmani Rock, Džerons Eniss, and Stephen Fulton, all currently unbeaten pros.

DAMON ALLEN JR IS THE ONE TO WATCH FROM PHILADELPHIA


PHILADELPHIA – Rising Philadelphia lightweight Damon Allen Jr., 13-0-1, 5 Kos, will be honored asThe One to Watchfor the Philly fight scene, at the 10th Annual Briscoe Awards, par Svētdiena, Oktobris 15, 2017.

Since his debut in 2013, Allen has been steadily rising in the lightweight division, and now finds himself on the brink of a major breakthrough. With Golden Boy as his promoter, and an impressive skillset in the ring, Allen is well-positioned to soon step into the spotlight.

For these reasons, Philly Boxing History, a non-profit organization dedicated to celebrating and documenting the Philadelphia fight scene, named Allen theOne to Watchand will present him with a Briscoe Medal at their annual event this weekend.

PHILLY LEGEND GIL TURNER TO BE HONORED WITH GRAVESTONE


PHILADELPHIA – Crowd-pleasing welterweight of the 1950s, Gil Turner will become the sixth recipient of a gravestone by the Philly Boxing History Gravestone Program. A fundraising campaign to pay for the Turner monument will be launched as part of the 10th Annual Briscoe Awards event, svētdien, Oktobris 15, 2017, at Xfinity Live! Philadelphia, sākas 1:00 PM. Turner’s children and other family members will attend the event svētdien.

Philly Boxing History Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and celebrating the great legacy of Philadelphia boxing. Five area boxers have been previously honored by the program, including Matthew Saad Muhammad, Gypsy Joe Harris, Tyrone Everett, Garnet “Cukurs” Briedis, and Eddie Cool.

Turner became a sensation in the early 1950s, when he reeled off 31 taisni uzvar (25 by KO) to start his career. The streak stretched until July 7, 1952, when Turner faced off against welterweight champion Kid Gavilan, at Municipal Stadium in South Philly. Turner fought on even terms with the champ until round eleven, when theCuban Hawkswooped in and retained his crown by TKO. Turner fought for another six years, but never again vied for a world title. He retired in 1958 with an overall record of 56-19-2, ar 35 knockouts. Turner was a popular TV fighter throughout the 1950s and fought numerous big names such as Joey Giardello, Johnny Saxton, Ike Williams, Gene Fullmer, Carmen Basilio, Beau Jack, and many others.

He died in 1996, and currently rests in an unmarked grave in North Philadelphia. Once the necessary funds are raised, the monument is expected to be placed in 2018. Tax deductible donations to the effort can be made at the event or by calling John DiSanto at 609-377-6413.

JESSE HART VS DASHON JOHNSON NAMED 2016 PHILLY FIGHT OF THE YEAR

PHILADELPHIA – On the brink of his first shot at a world title, super middleweight Jesse Hart commented on his March 18, 2016 fight against Dashon Johnson, which was named the “Philly Cīņa Gada”.
That’s what it deserves,” Hart said about his 10-round thriller against Johnson. “I gave blood sweat and tears.
Hart was generally in control in the fight, but had to battle back from the Californian’s aggressive rushes that had him in trouble in round six and on the floor in round ten. Hart climbed to his feet and went on to win the decision after ten exciting rounds. It was a memorable fight on a great night of Philly boxing.
I showed a tremendous amount of heart,” Hart said. “It was a war. I was prepared to die. I won that fight on heart. I had to dig down to the pit of my souldig down deep to find it, and to get it.
Par October 15th, Hart and Johnson will be honored at the 10th Annual Briscoe Awards for their excellent fight and the page in Philly boxing history that they created together.
Protams, first on Hart’s mind is his chance to win the WBO super middleweight championship Friday night in Tucson, AZ.

STEVE “USS” CUNNINGHAM TO HOST THE 10TH ANNUAL BRISCOE AWARDS ON OCTOBER 15TH



PHILADELPHIA – Philly Boxing History announced today that former two-time cruiserweight champion Steve “USS” Cunningham will be the celebrity guest host of the 10th Annual Briscoe Awards pie Xfinity Live! Philadelphia, par Oktobris 15, 2017.

Cunningham was the very first recipient of thePhilly Fighter of the YearBriscoe Award in 2007, and won the same award three years later. Kopumā, Cunningham has won a total five Briscoe Awards through the years, also winning for “2014 Philly Cīņa Gada” (vs. Amir Mansour), un “Performance of the Yearin both 2012 un 2014.
The Bennie Briscoe Award was the first Philly organization to step up and really show appreciation for the things that I was doing,” Cunningham said. “I’ve been a world champ, but didn’t get the shine that some world champs would have. But the Bennie Briscoe Awards have always been there, not just for me but for every Philly fighter. I think every city should do this for their fighters, but they don’t. That’s what makes the Briscoe Awards so special.
Steve is the most decorated fighter in the Briscoe Awardsten year history AND he was our very first “Karotājs Gada” uzvarētājs,” said John DiSanto of Philly Boxing History Inc. “He’s the perfect person to guest host our 10th annual celebration. Steve has always represented the Briscoe Awards well, and it will be great to have him back on the stage in a whole new role.
First up however, Cunningham fights undefeated Andrew Tabiti for the NABF cruiserweight title on the Mayweather-McGregor mega-card, Šo sestdien night in Las Vegas. The ten round bout opens the Pay-Per-View TV broadcast.
