QUEBEC CITY, Canada (Nov. 29, 2015) – James DeGale defended his IBF Super Middleweight World Championship in a thriller over hometown favorite and former champion Lucian Bute Rau hnub Saturday in the main event of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING.

 

It was the first title defense for DeGale, the 2008 Olympic gold medalist from Britain who went on the road to Boston to win the title earlier this year and chose to defend in hostile territory.

 

Bute, who was attempting to win back the IBF belt he defended nine times between 2007 thiab 2012, put on an inspired and gutsy performance in an electric atmosphere to open the new Videotron Centre in Quebec City. But the unbelievable pace, as well as an arsenal of overhand rights, body shots and combos from the younger DeGale (22-1, 14 KOs) proved to be the difference as DeGale prevailed 116-112, 117-111 (twice).

 

“I’m young and I’m fresh. I’m peaking right now,” DeGale said. “I’m ready for the best in the world. Credit to Bute – he’s a great champion and believe me, he will be back.”

 

“Like I’ve said in the past, he is a world-class fighter. I’ve still got things to work on in the next three or four years and I’m going to be my best.”

 

Bute (32-3, 25 KOs) didn’t look anything like the fighter that lost to Carl Froch in 2012. But while the 35-year-old stalked the switch-hitting DeGale with a relentless attack, he couldn’t do enough to overpower the supremely active Brit, who threw 524 power punches compared to 278 for Bute.

 

“I think it was a great fight. I did my best tonight,” Bute said. “I think it was a close fight. He’s an Olympic champion, he’s a world champion. If the judges give him the decision I respect that. I’ll be back in the gym to work hard and continue to fight. I think it was a very close fight. I’m happy with my performance and I’ll be back in the gym to get back in the ring one more time.

 

“The last three years were difficult for me. After I lost to Carl Froch that was a very difficult period for me. I took a break, and now I’m back. I feel great, I feel healthy and now I have one more chance to be back on the top.

 

“Maybe a few rounds I waited too much and didn’t put the punches together and I let James fight me. When I pushed pressure and pushed back I won the round.”

 

In the opening bout on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING, Eleider Alvarez earned the right to face WBC Light Heavyweight World Champion Adonis Stevenson with a close majority decision over Isaac Chilemba, scored 114-114, 118-110, 115-113.

 

Alvarez, ranked No. 2 by the WBC at 175 pounds, started quick and pocketed rounds against the No. 1 ranked contender Chilemba. But Chilemba weathered the storm and fought his way back in the fight as Alvarez couldn’t keep up the pace he established in the earlier rounds.

 

Both fighters came out with a sense of urgency in the 12th and deciding stanza and if Chilemba had won the final round the fight would have been ruled a draw.

 

“I knew I had to finish the later rounds strong, but I believe I did enough to win the fight,” Alvarez said. “I’m ready to accept the challenge and face Stevenson. To be the world champion, you have to beat the champion. So that’s what I aim to do.”

 

Chilemba argued that Alvarez, who fights out of nearby Montreal, was the beneficiary of a “hometown decision,” although the judge who ruled the fight a draw was a local and the other two were from neutral territories.

 

“I thought I did enough to win it,” Chilemba said. “But it is what it is. I guess you can call it a hometown decision.”

 

After the fight, SHOWTIME Sports host Brian Custer sat down with Stevenson to get his thoughts on Alvarez-Chilemba and his future.

 

“It was a close physical fight,” Stevenson said. “He (Alvarez) won this fight but it was very close.”

 

“We talk about Kovalev because the WBC still ranks him the No. 1 contender. I want this fight to happen. The fans want it to happen. I said June is perfect for me. He said ‘OK, Rau hli ntuj,’ Kathy Duva said ‘No problem, June.’ Then she said on HBO. I said, ‘Forget about the TVs, let them talk.’ We want the fight to happen. Let the TVs work together and make it happen.

 

“I want to fight Kovalev. That’s the best opportunity for me because I want his titles. For sure, this fight will happen in June. I don’t have a problem; my team doesn’t have a problem. I want this fight in June.

 

Kovalev is scared. I talked to him, saw it in his eyes that he’s scared of me. It will happen, but I know Kovalev is scared. I want Kovalev. I’m very hungry to get his titles.”

 

Adrian Granados survived a first-round knockdown to shock undefeated super lightweight prospect Amir Imam in the opening bout of SHOWTIME BOXING ON SHO EXTREME with an eighth round TKO (2:34).

 

It was a crushing defeat for Imam, who entered the fight as the No. 1 mandatory challenger to WBC Super Lightweight World Champion Viktor Postol.

 

Imam looked like he was going to finish the fight early after a nice left-right combo floored the Chicago native. But after escaping the first, Granados dictated the tempo of the fight, worked the inside and prevented Imam – considered one of boxing’s most talented young contenders – from establishing his jab. With Imam unable to keep the fight at a distance, Granados picked apart the Don King-promoted fighter. After seven rounds of punishment and Iman gasping for air against the ropes Granados finished his opponent with a series of devastating combo shots.

 

An elated Granados (15-3-2, 10 KOs), who has losses to fighters with a combined record of 49-0, pleaded his case to become the mandatory challenger.

 

“I believe I should be the mandatory challenger,” Granados said. “He was in line and I stopped him. What does that mean? Come on. I was the underdog, but I just came to take it. I came to take it.

 

“It feels great. Once I had him wobbled I was like, ‘you’ve got to get him now. This time you’re not taking it from me.’ It was a flash knockdown. He caught with the right hand, but I was alright. I just popped right up and I knew he was going to try and finish me. We got out of it and went right back to work.”

 

Despite the demoralizing loss, Imam (18-1, 15 KOs) doesn’t regret taking a fight that will likely knock him out of title contention.

 

“I know people might say I shouldn’t have taken this fight, but I needed this fight in between as a tune-up for my next fight because I didn’t want to wait for the six to eight months for the world title shot.

 

“The key to the fight was my jab, I just didn’t use it enough,” Imam said. “But that’s the way it goes and I’m going to definitely come back stronger. I wasn’t thinking anything after that first-round knockdown. I’ve done that many times and didn’t think the fight was over. I wasn’t surprised at all by the way he came out. I know how he fights. He’s a good fighter and that’s all there is to it.”

 

In the opening bout of SHOWTIME BOXING ON SHO EXTREME, undefeated heavyweight prospect Oscar Rivas (18-0, 13 KOs) knocked out veteran Joey Abell (31-9, 29 KOs) tom :46 of the second round.

Cave KO’s Rojas To Secure World Crown

In front of a big crowd at the Dartmouth Sportsplex in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, local hero Tyson Cave secured the World Boxing Union (WBU) Super Bantamweight World Championship with a sensational second round knockout of tough late replacement Walter Rojas (24 wins 23 by way of KO and 7 losses).

 

Cave showcased his exceptional boxing and defensive skills against the big punching Argentinian throughout the first round, dancing around the ever forward coming Rojas before picking the Argentinian off with some sharp shots.

 

Early in the second Cave landed a pin point accurate shot to send Rojas to the canvas.

 

Right from the restart Rojas went hard and fast on the attack once more, Cave’s exceptional ring craft enabled the Halifax born and bred fighter to avoid some seriously fast big rights, then as before Cave landed another pinpoint accurate shot to send Rojas to the canvas for a second time.

 

On the restart this time it was Cave that went in hard and fast, landing a massive shot to the temple of the Argentinian that sent him down and through the ropes.

 

Rojas tried desperately to get to his feet, but didn’t have enough coordination to pull himself up using the ropes, as Referee Hubert Earl’s count was coming to a conclusion, Rojas collapsed so the highly experienced Earl waived the bout of so that the distressed Argentinian could receive medical assistance on the one minute and fifty second mark.

 

Following the announcement and Championship belt presentation the newly crowned Champ said.

 

“Listen I want to thank the WBU for making my dreams come true, I want to thank Rio (WBU Europe President Gianluca Di Caro) and his organization for making this happen.

 

I must thanks my team, my father and Tony Makhoul of TMG Entertainment for being there for me and making this happen.

DALLAS (November 28, 2015) – Super welterweight world champion Jermall “Hitman” Charlo (23-0, 18 KOs) stopped “Silky” Wilky Campfort (21-2, 12 KOs) in the fourth-round to retain his title Hnub vas xaum afternoon on Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) rauNBC from The Bomb Factory in Dallas.
Charlo used his height and jab to control the fight and keep the tenacious Campfort from getting inside and causing any damage to the defending champion. In the second round, Charlo landed a two-punch combo that ended with a right cross to send Campfort to the canvas.
The trouble continued for Campfort in round three as Charlo connected on a strong left hook that put Campfort down a second time. When the action picked up in round four Charlo upped the aggression and put Campfort on the mat for the final time with a flurry that left Campfort cut and unable to see out of his right eye.
Referee Mark Calo-oy stopped the fight 1:16 into round four. Charlo outlanded Campfort 62-11 over the four rounds and landed 30% of his power punches.
The co-main event saw Dallas’s-own rising star Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. (19-0, 16 KOs) put on a show for his hometown crowd as he stopped Alejandro Barrera (26-3, 17 KOs) in the fifth-round of their welterweight clash.
Spence Jr. fought cautiously in the first round, feeling out his opponent who came in looking to use his awkward style to frustrate the undefeated hometown fighter. While Barrera was able to land with the uppercut early on, Spence Jr. adjusted and began to bloody Barrera with a series of left hands in round two.
Barrera continued to hang tough through the third and fourth rounds, but in round five Spence came out with a renewed interest in the body attack. He sent Barrera to the canvas with a barrage to the body and followed it up shortly after with another assault on the body before referee Laurence Cole stopped te fight 1:46 into round five. Barrera was taken to Baylor Medical Hospital after the fight.
In the opening televised bout, rising prospect Erickson “The Hammer” Lubin (13-0, 10 KOs) delivered a sensational second-round knockout over Alexis Camacho (21-6, 19 KOs).
The rising undefeated star from Orlando overwhelmed Camacho with his speed right from the opening bell. He was able to penetrate Camacho’s defense with a strong jab and sent Camacho to the canvas in round one with a big right hook.
Lubin came out in round two looking to end the fight quickly and was able to land a perfect right hook. The one-punch knockout came 42 seconds into the second round.

“My gameplan was to start off using the jab and to see how he’d react. It was a powerful weapon.
“I work so hard in camp, it’s a great feeling to see it translated into a victory. I knew I had advantages, so I just wanted to take my time and make sure I got a chance to show my power.
“Camp was very good. I just won the title September 12 and I’ve already defended it. Get it and defend it. I’m a real world champion.
“I love Dallas! This is like a second home. These fans are great and I look forward to coming back.
“I’ve got the best jab in the business. I’m going to keep using it, because it’s feeding my family.
“I’m going to stay right here at 154. This is my title and I’m going to defend it. I’m ready for anyone.”

“I had a problem getting past his jab. Once I got in, he was so much bigger than me and my punches couldn’t really effect him. He controlled the fight with his jab.
“I tried to make the fight happen, but it was hard to get inside of him. He’s a big guy and a really good fighter. But I felt like I was in there with a light heavyweight.
“On the last knockdown my eye got blurry and I couldn’t really see. That’s why the ref stopped it.”
ERROL SPENCE JR.
“The strategy was to be patient and to pick my spots. He was more awkward than I thought he would be. I rushed it a little bit but once I got myself composed I picked my spots and listened to my coach, I could come forward and stop him.
“The body work was really important. That’s what we train for in the gym, work the body then go to the head. In the first round I kind of got away from it but then I went back to it and was able to stop him.
“There were definitely some nerves fighting in front of my hometown fans. It took me the first couple of rounds to get over that. Then I just started doing what I usually do and it worked out.
“I want top 10 welterweights. My goal is to become a world champion. If I have to go to England to fight Kell Brook, I’m willing to do that.”
ERICKSON LUBIN
“I knew he was experienced, so I had to take my time to get him out of there. I didn’t want to rush too much. I sat behind the jab and got it done.
“My lead hand is my quickest and I saw him running in, so I used that check hook to put him out.
“2015 has been a great year. I’ll give it an A minus only because I still don’t have a world title. I’m improving as a fighter every day.
“My team is tremendous and they know me so well, they’re putting me on the track I want to be on. I want to get back in the ring as soon as possible and I can’t wait.”

“I don’t feel pressure. I know what I jumped into when I got into this professional boxing game, and I have a good team around me. We’re a tight circle and very strong, and when the opportunities come, I’ll be ready to take advantage of it.

 

“People are talking about me wanting to fight Errol Spence and getting revenge (on a past U.S. Olympic boxing trials loss). I don’t have revenge on my mind. I mean, we could definitely do it when I move up a weight class, but right now I’m focused on a 140-pound title shot. I want that title shot in early 2016 against (current WBC world champion) Viktor Postol.

 

“(Postol) is a good fighter and he got the title for a reason, but you can’t hide and run for too long and my time is coming next year. You get one defense and then it’s all me. It’s all Young Master.”

 

ADRIAN GRANADOS

“I would say this is the biggest fight of my career. It’s going to be a great fight and I’m looking forward to a great night.

 

“(Imam’s) got a lot of tools and he’s very talented. We’ll take it round by round and make adjustments as the fight goes.

 

“I’ve rebounded well. I’m not satisfied with the way my career has gone and had a lot of bad decisions and management problems. I wasn’t brought along like my opponent was. But it’s helped me grow some thick skin and attributes to why I’m here today.

MIAMI (November 25, 2015) – Super welterweight world champion and Cuban sensationErislandy “The American Dream” Lara (22-2-2, 13 KOs) successfully defended his title against former world champion and Slovenian Jan Zaveck (35-4, 19 KOs) in a Premier Boxing Champions on ESPN show from Miami’s Hialeah Park Racing & Twv txiaj yuam pov.
Due to weather in the area, the main event was moved up to ensure the fight happened. From the opening bell, Lara controlled the action by landing heavy blows. In the third round, the ref stopped the action with Zaveck against the ropes, unable to continue. The ref called a stop to the fight at :41 into the third round.
In the second televised fight of the evening, Puerto Rican undefeated bantamweight prospect Emmanuel Rodriguez (14-0, 10 KOs) dealt a seventh round knockout toElicer Aquino (17-2-1, 11 KOs) from the Dominican Republic.
In a contest that saw great action out of both corners, Rodriguez ultimately proved to be too much for Aquino. The official stopped the fight at 2:44 into the seventh round.

“I think I handled the pressure well hmo no. I stayed in the pocket and fought my fight. This was a great win for me. (Zaveck) is a former champion and he’s never been knocked out until hmo no.
“I’m very happy to be back fighting in the Miami area. This is my first time fighting back here since 2009 and I’m glad I was able to put on a good show for the fans. I’m very thankful for the way they showed up to support me hmo no.
“I hit (Zaveck) with a great shot to the chin and froze his whole body. He was complaining about pain in his ear and his leg, but the bottom line is I got the win.
“I’ll face anyone they want to put in front of me at 154 lbs, unless it’s Canelo (Alavarez) los sis (Miguel) Cotto. Then we’ll go up to 160 lbs.”
JAN ZAVECK
“I currently have a sharp pain going from my neck to my shoulder on the right side.
“I knew I could try to fight on and land a lucky punch, but that was a small possibility and it was probably better to stop and fight another day.
“I felt good in there before that. I tried to surprise him by fighting him in close, but I was taking too many punches and he has very good power.
“I have never been injured like this before. It is very strange. The pain is surging.”

“As the fight started I could tell Aquino was a strong fighter, but once I started boxing him I knew I could end the fight in the later rounds.
“The plan was to take him into deep waters and make it a long fight. In the seventh round my corner told me to end it and I listened.
“I agree with the stoppage. He was taking too much punishment in there.
“Being a part of a PBC card on ESPN helps take my career to the next level. I’m grateful for this opportunity.
“I’ll fight whoever my promoter and manager tell me to. I’m ready for anyone.”

Born in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic but fighting out of Brooklyn, Dominguez looks to finish out 2015 with his undefeated record intact and 20 pro wins to his name. This would mark three straight wins in 2015 after he defeated Carlos Rodriguez in February and Mario Macia in May. Crolla stops Perez to win WBA Lightweight title; Abraham gets by Murray to retain WBO Super Middleweight title
San Diego, CA – November, 25, 2015 -No lawm Hnub vas xaum, Anthony Crolla realized a lifetime dream as he became the WBA Lightweight champion with a stunning body shot 5th round knockout over defending champion Darleys Perez.
Just before that, Arthur Abraham defended the WBO Super Middleweight title with a split decision over Martin Murray.
Crolla – Perez, which took place in Manchester, England and Abraham – Murray, which originated from Hanover, Germany highlighted a split site championship doubleheader on AWE- A Wealth of Entertainment.
The two continued a string of high quality world title bouts broadcasted on AWE.
“This was a great kickoff to a great day of boxing,”said AWE president, Charles Herring.
“To show two high-quality world title bouts from two different countries fits into what we want to give the fans and that is the best boxing throughout the world.”
Crolla landed the perfect paralyzing shot that ended the fight and sent the Manchester Arena into a frenzy.
“This is what I have dreamt about since I was a kid,” said Crolla. “To achieve it, well, it is going to take a long time to sink in – I’m absolutely made up. I couldn’t have picked a better setting to have achieved my dream, all my family and friends were in the arena and the fans were incredible.

“The people who have been with me from day one were all there and I am so happy to have done it for them too. It’s a tough time of the year for people to dip into their pockets and pay for tickets so I am grateful to them and I hope they had a great night.

“It’s just under a year since the attack and all that has been well-documented, I promised myself when I was laying on that hospital bed that I would come back stronger than ever and that’s what I have done.

“I knew after a few rounds that he was feeling the pace and he made a few noises when I hit him with some shots, he was sharp though and he was hitting harder than he did last time, I took a few stupid shots early on but I thought I would get to him and it paid off. I felt confident before the fight that I could get him out of there.

“That’s the best body shot I’ve thrown in my career. I was touching him up top and I knew as soon as he went down that he was going to struggle to bet the count. He was sat down for a few minutes after the decision so it caught him perfectly, I’ll look forward to watching it back again and again.

“I am capable of more than that – it was a good finish but it wasn’t a great performance.”

Murray seemed to be more active fighter and landed some big shots throughout the fight. In round eleven, Murray was deducted a point for holding which seemed like it could have been a deciding factor in the close battle but it did not come into play as Abraham won the debated decision by tallies of 116-111, 115-112 while Murray took a card 115-112.
“Obviously I’m gutted,” said Murray. “I really thought it was my night and when the final bell went – even though we were in Germany – I still thought I had it. I still thought I had done enough. When they said it was a split decision even then I still thought I’d got it.

“I know I’m too good to retire but the way I am feeling now, what can I do? It was my fifth shot. I just can’t keep doing this. I just can’t keep doing it to my family.”
