Melson volunteers to serve in the Middle East; withdraws from NY Congressional race

Brooklyn, NY (Janvye 4, 2018) – Army Public Affairs Officer and retired pro boxer Boyd Melson announced his withdrawal from the New York District 11 Congressional election to serve the United States in the fight against ISIS in Operation Inherent Resolve.

Melson is currently serving in the Army Reserve in the rank of Major. Dènyèman, a member of Melson’s Army Reserve unit scheduled for deployment in early 2018 received an opportunity for an assignment in an Active Guard Reserve (AGR) position.

The soldier wanted this assignment for a long period of time and it was an opportunity that would not be offered again if initially turned down. The soldier is married with children and the opportunity would be extremely beneficial to the soldier and her family. Melson, a Brooklyn resident, previously volunteered, without success, to serve abroad on three different deployments. He was adamant that this is his time to fight terrorism at its forefront.

“I am proud of many things that have taken place in my life and lives of those around me,"Te di Melson, yon 2003 West Point graduate. “The most important to me without question is being a great American that stands behind his responsibilities as a member of the Army Reserve.”

Melson, who helped raise more than $400,000 for Spinal Cord Injury research by donating every penny earned in his boxing career and helping host multiple charity galas, has been chronicled by many high profile media outlets for his selflessness. Sepandan, the 36-year-old believes this next journey is his responsibility as an American.

“I have never deployed. Wholeheartedly, I believe that it is my ultimate duty to serve this great country in our fight against ISIS in the Middle East. For this reason, I have decided to withdraw from the 2018 District 11 Congressional election. While there’s no doubt in my mind I was the right man to lead Staten Island and South Brooklyn, America needs me overseas. I was doing well in my campaign run. I was singled out by the New York times as one of a handful of up and coming Democratic candidates for United States Congress. I was one of six candidates asked to speak out in front of the White House to address Russia’s cyber-interference with our elections. Then I received a phone call. A fellow soldier was scheduled to deploy. She asked me if I would switch with her because of various circumstances that would greatly benefit her family’s life to include her. I immediately said yes.”

“I thought to myself, I have never been deployed and I don’t want to look back on my life thinking how I had my chance to do my part fighting ISIS but shied away from it. That would have gone against everything I stand for. I believe in sacrificing myself to help others. Fwa sa a,, the sacrifice is not only to help combat the terror in the Middle East, but to also help out a fellow soldier. If I said no, I would have lied to myself about who I think I am and what I think I am about.”

I have spent a great amount of time over the years traveling to schools and speaking to students from pre-k through college. I always stated that you must make sure that your decisions are in alignment with your heart’s values. Me not being there when called upon would have meant I would have lied to these children all of these years. I finally am getting my chance to join my brothers and sisters in arms with this experience. Only my inner-circle knew about the other three deployments I tried to get on. I finally get to join all those throughout our nation’s history that have made this choice. I believe in my choice, albeit it will be costing me my chance at being elected into office. Serving my nation, the United States of America, in uniform while in harm’s way, to help fight.”

Mwen pral yo dwe bay fanatik m 'ak fanatik batay yon montre bon.
“Mwen pral sèvi ak rive m 'ak longè ak detwi sa a Guy deyò an.
“Pa gen anyen an patikilye ke mwen gen pou prepare yo pou ak Fortuna.
“objektif mwen pou 2018 yo pran plis tit ak jwenn epizod inifikasyon.
Javier FORTUNA (33-1-1, 23 Ko) – Ansyen Super Plum Mondyal Champion
“preparasyon mwen an pou sa a batay ki pral trè byen. Mwen te ap travay soti nan Repiblik Dominikèn, men mwen te tounen nan Boston vini nan fini fòmasyon mwen an. Kounye a, nou ap nan 75% ak fèmti nan sou 100%.
“Mwen ta pito opozan m 'yo dwe pi wo. (Fortuna bay nòt yon 5th wonn KO kont Cotto)
“Objektif mwen pou 2018 se al goumen tout konbatan yo ki tèt elit nan klas pwa mwen, ak mwen ap eseye vin mansyone kòm youn nan pi bon an nan espò a. Mwen vrèman vle pou pou genyen yon lòt tit mond nan yon klas pwa diferan. Li ta moman sa a pi gwo byen lwen tèlman nan karyè mwen an jwenn yon lòt tit nan lemonn.”
MARCUS BROWNE (20-0, 15 Ko) – Top 10 klase nan 175 lbs. (WBC, WBO, WBA & IBF)
“Opozan mwen (fransi Ntetu, 17-1, 4 Ko) sanble yon dirab, nèg difisil. Mwen wè sa a batay yo te trè enteresan pou fanatik yo pou osi lontan ke li dire. Mwen te wè yon ti kras nan tep sou li. Mwen konnen li toujou vini nan fòm tip-top, ak mwen tande li se konsistan nan pèfòmans li nan bag la. I just know I’m going to have to be sharp on Jan. 20.
“Li nan toujou yon onè al goumen isit la nan kay ak nan Barkley Sant. Li nan espesyal pou kapab fè a devan nan fanatik sa yo ak mwen pa ka tann yo mete yo sou yon pèfòmans bon ki mennen jiska Spence vs. Peterson batay.
“batay Sa a te mete m 'nan yon pozisyon nan ke mwen bezwen yo dwe nan pou goumen pou yon tit mond.
That vision starts on Jan. 20 at Barclays Center against Francy Ntetu.
fransi NTETU (17-1, 4 Ko) – Goumen David Benavidez nan Barkley Sant nan mwa jen 2015
I know Marcus Browne is probably taking me lightly and thinks he will simply go through me. Mwen espere ke nan ka a, paske li k ap pase gen yon chòk l ', fanatik yo ak ekip li a lè m 'pran plas li nan liy pou yon tit. Mwen vle fè fas a Eleider Alvarez nan peyi nou an nan Monreyal apre mwen jwenn genyen sa a.
ADAM Kownacka (16-0, 13 Ko) – Originally soti nan Polòy & batay soti nan Brooklyn
“batay Sa a se pral yo dwe yon lòt etap nan direksyon vin tounen yon chanpyon. Mwen konnen mwen pral gen nan travay trè difisil ak pwouve ke mwen kontinye bati sou genyen m 'sou Szpilka. Soti nan videyo a mwen te wè sou IAGO Kiladze (26-1, 18 Ko), li te deplase yon anpil, Se konsa, mwen pral bezwen yo koupe bag an.
“Twa ane nan yon ranje koulye a, mwen ve yo te batay nan mwa janvye. Mwen renmen kòmanse koupe ane a fò. Madanm mwen ak mwen aktyèlman te kòmanse yon tradisyon nan la “Kownacki Fanmi kouri” nan minwi on New Year’s Eve. Depi mwen toujou prepare pou yon batay alantou nouvèl ane a, nou kalkile nou ta ka kòm byen gen plezi pandan ke nou travay. Se konsa,, nou pral gen kèk zanmi soti ak kouri nan yon mil kèk avèk nou nan katye a pandan fedatifis yo. Li amizan yo epi li ede jwenn m 'pare.
“Alafen, M 'ap chache yo vin pi bon an nan divizyon an pwa loud. Men, trè premye etap la ap pran IAGO Kiladze trè seryezman. I can’t look past Janvye 20 kounye a. Mwen gen yon advèsè difisil ki moun ki pral defi, epi fè m 'yon avyon de gè pi bon nan kouri nan longè.”
IAGO KILADZE, Twazyèm batay depi deplase jiska divizyon pwa loud (2-0, 2 Ko)
I feel great and my training has been terrific. antrenè mwen se Freddie Roach kounye a. Mwen sparred ak (IBF cruiserweight chanpyon) Murat Gassiev twa fwa dènyèman ki se gwo preparasyon pou m '. I believe I can knockout Kownacki but if I have to go the distance I’m prepared for that.
I know that if I win this fight I’ll be that much closer to a world title opportunity.
“Objektif mwen se yo dwe yon chanpyon nan lemonn nan fen 2018. I want to continue improving and learning under Freddie and with his guidance I’m confident of success.
