BELLATOR & WEC VETERAN RETURNS TO DEFEND NEF TITLE

Novaj Angliaj Bataloj (NEF), Ameriko’s nombro-unu regiona batala #anta?enigo, will hold its nineteenth mixed-martial-arts (MMA) Evento, “NEF jarcento,” Sabate, Septembro 12, 2015 ĉe la Androscoggin Banko Colisée en Lewiston, Majno. Pli frue hodiaŭ, the promotion announced the addition of a professional featherweight championship bout to the fight card. Anthony “Cheesesteak” Morrison (17-9) will defend the NEF MMA Professional Featherweight Title against VovkaKGBClay (3-0). The bout is scheduled for five five-minute rounds at a weight of 145-pounds.

Morrison stunned the NEF universe this past February when he arrived in Lewiston and submitted hometown hero Ray Wood (5-1) in the fifth round to win the championship title. It was as if he had sucked all the air out of the Colisée with a vacuum. Morrison played the role of spoiler that cold, snowy night in Lewiston.

I’ve never seen anything like that before,” said NEF co-owner and promoter Nick DiSalvo. “The entire place just dropped into a dead silence. I don’t think anyone in Maine saw that coming, and I certainly don’t think anyone who’s followed NEF expected a fighter to come in and do that to Ray Wood. Everyone was shocked. It was a surreal moment.

Morrison is a seasoned veteran with more than a decade’s experience in the sport. He has competed against the best MMA has to offer on the national stage, including a stint in World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) and Bellator. Morrison trains out of Daddis MMA in Philadelphia, Pensilvanio.

I am very thankful to return to the beautiful state of Maine, for my first title defense,” said Morrison. “It will be a very entertaining fight and another victory for the five time! Five time! Five time! Five time! Five time! Mixed martial arts champion, Anthony Morrison.

Vovka Clay is undefeated as a professional. He competed as an amateur twice in NEF and won both fights by submission in an impressive fashion. Clay is considered one of the true rising stars of the New England fight scene. A win over an accomplished veteran like Morrison could potentially propel Clay onto the national stage. He is a product of Team Triumph/Boston BJJ of Nashua, Nov-Hampŝiro.

Every fighter has a dream of making it to the UFC,” said Clay. “Some choose to go after meaningless titles and pad their records fighting nobodies. I choose to fight the highest level of competition possible. I am thrilled to be fighting Anthony Morrison for the NEF Featherweight title. He is a very durable and crafty veteran. It won’t be easy, but if I fight my fight, I will finish Morrison and I will be the NEF Featherweight Champion.

Mulvane, Kan. (Junio 26, 2015) ? Cheick Kongo (23-10-2) utilized a vast array of elbow strikes to defeat Alexander Volkov (24-6) via unanimous decision in the main event of Bellator MMA: “Kongo vs. Volkov” from Kansas Star Arena in Mulvane, Kan., Vendrede.

The Frenchman was relentless with his takedown attempts and “Drago” was unable to use his length to ward them off, spending a good duration of the heavyweight encounter on his back.

Kun la venko, Kongo improves to 4-2 under the Bellator MMA umbrella, while Volkov has now dropped two consecutive decisions.

En la co-#?efa evento, Dave Rickels (16-3, 1 NC) was seemingly en route to a spectacular stoppage of John Alessio (35-17, 1 NC) but an ill-advised knee to the head of a downed Alessio resulted in a no contest.

The 26-year-old Derby, Kan. native had the former World Extreme Cagefighting competitor wobbled against the cage, but the roar of the hometown fans may have clouded his decision making, as Rickels threw the knee and as a result referee Rob Hinds waved off the fight.

“Kansas, I’m so sorry,” Rickels said. “The fight was going exactly as I expected. You will see me do this again, except next time, I’m going to legally finish my opponent. I kneed him in the head, I screwed up, I could’ve stopped at any second but I just wanted to finish it.”

In what will undoubtedly end up as a “knockout of the year” candidate, Hisaki Kato (5-1) finished Joe Schilling (2-5) with a second-round Superman punch to impress in his Bellator MMA debut.

“I believed in myself. I know I have really heavy hands and it took just one big shot to knock him out,” Kato said after the fight. “I feel I did a great job of representing Japanese MMA. It’s not only about grappling, we are also strikers as well.”

Kato showcased his grappling the first round, nullifying the world-class muay Thai of Schilling on the ground. But after a few even exchanges to open the second slate, Kato struck with a perfectly placed punch that sent those in attendance into a frenzy. It’s worth noting that the Japanese international has won all five of his fights by KO or TKO.

In the opening main card bout of the evening, Pat Curran (21-7) got back on the winning track with a unanimous (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) decision over a game Emmanuel Sanchez (10-2).

Curran was originally slated to face Goiti Yamauchi, but an injury created the opportunity for Sanchez to fill-in on short notice. The two featherweights maintained a torrid pace over the course of 15 Minutoj, but the three judges appointed by the Kansas commission all ruled in favor of the former 145-pound champion.

Post ŝin kverelas, “Paddy Mike” promised to continue improving on his craft.

“I really needed this win,” Curran said. “I want to thank him for stepping up on three weeks notice and taking the fight. I’m going to keep coming, I have a lot to improve and keep working on. I’m going to head back to the gym and keep getting better.”

Josh Koscheck Signing:

Bellator MMA also announced the signing of Josh “Kos” Koscheck (17-10) to a multi-fight deal. The welterweight comes to the Scott Coker-led promotion from the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) where he amassed his record fighting some of the most notable names in the welterweight division, including Georges St. Pierre and Matt Hughes.

Koscheck, is a former Division I wrestling champion who now joins an ultra-competitive welterweight division, where a rematch against Paul Daley could possibly come to fruition.

Preliminary Results:

Frederick Brown (3-1) Haltita Derek Bohi (6-4) with punches in the Bellator 139 dark main event. The technical knockout came :29 seconds into the first round.

Aaron Ely (5-2) utilized his slick grappling skills to submit Jeimeson Saudino (8-5) with a standing guillotine choke at 1:05 De rondo du. “The Cyborg” has earned all of his five victories by way of submission.

The lone women’s fight on the Bellator 139 card did not disappoint, Kiel Bryanna Fissori (2-0) earned a unanimous 29-28 decision win against Iony Razafiarison (2-1). The difference was the third and final frame, where “The Pink Ranger” secured a full mount and rained down punches, seeking the finish and receiving the benefit of the doubt from the judges.

Alex Huddleston (6-1) is making a habit of finishing scraps early, finishing his opponent Javy Ayala (8-4) via rear-naked choke a mere 72-seconds after the opening bell sounded. Kun la gajno, “The Shaved Gorilla” has two first-round finishes in his two fights under the Bellator MMA banner.

Before Augusto Sakai (10-0) Kaj Daniel Gallemore (4-3) could get off their stools for a third round, Gallemore’s corner stopped the fight. Somewhere along the way, “Big Kansas” began having trouble seeing, giving Sakai the win via TKO and keeping the Brazilian fighter’s record unblemished to begin his professional career.

Bubba Jenkins (9-2) got back to his winning way against Joe Wilk (19-10) Vendrede Nokto, finishing the Kansas-native with punches at 1:00 De rondo unu. “The Highlight Kid” improved to 6-2 inside the Bellator MMA cage.

Necesis 15 tightly contested minutes to find a winner between lightweights Paŭlo Villaseca (9-1) Kaj Bobby Cooper (12-5). En la fino, two judges scored the fight in favor of the man they call “Super Duper,” giving him the split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) venko.

En la komenca vico de la vespero, Gaston Reyno (4-0, 2 NC) Faris rapidan laboron de Greg Scott (3-4), picking up the submission win after only 1:17 of featherweight action.

“UNFINISHED BUSINESS” IS FINISHED, AS KIMBO SLICE STOPS KEN SHAMROCK IN SAINT LOUIS

FOTA KREDITO: BELLATOR

The long-awaited, highly anticipated matchup between mixed martial arts legend Ken Shamrock (28-16-2) and bare-knuckled brawler Kimbo Tranĉaĵo (5-2) definitely didn’t disappoint. The energy from the packed crowd at Scottrade Center in St. Louis was palpable, as fans from all walks of life had waited since 2008 to see the two enter the cage, with Slice claiming victory by TKO at 2:22 en ronda unu.

When the opening bell sounded, the founding father of MMA looked to shoot for the takedown on Slice immediately, maneuvering into a position to secure a win with a rear-naked choke. But as promised, Slice refused to tap.

Before the crowd could blink, the two fighters were upright and exchanging blows. Slice was able to land a lethal right hook that stunned Shamrock, sending him immediately to the canvas. Just as Slice moved in to land additional blows on the defenseless Shamrock, referee John McCarthy quickly stepped in and stopped the fight.

After the bout, an exuberant Slice acted as if this victory was long overdue. “I’ve been in this position before,” said Slice. “I trained my ground game very well. Tapping was not an option.”

Shamrock, who looked to be in top shape coming into the fight, was full of class in defeat. “When you come into a fight and you get beat you have to show respect,” said Shamrock. “I’m frustrated, I had the submission but I didn’t take my time with it. I lost my position. I tried to scramble, but I wasn’t that fast and I got caught.”

In the night’s co-feature and potential comeback “Fight of the Year,” current Bellator Featherweight World Champion Patricio “Pitbull” Freire (24-2) retained his title against Daniel “Weasel” Weichel (35-9) with a beautiful left hook knockout 32-seconds into round two.

In the first round it looked like Bellator would have a new 145-pound champion, as the German international immediately came forward with pressure, catching the Brazilian with multiple jabs.

Just when it looked like referee McCarthy would stop the action, the first round bell sounded just in the nick of time to save Freire from a stunning first-round knockout.

Post ŝin kverelas, a seemingly stunned “Pitbull” didn’t seem to lose any confidence. “My opponent was very tough, but I can go to war,” said Freire. “I am very happy to still be the champion. I’m here, if you want my belt you can try to come get it.”

“I believe the bell saved me,” Freire continued. “He hit me with a hard punch on my chin but I stayed calm going into the second round because I knew I needed to win the fight. I saw an opening after he punched me and I hit him with my best shot.”

A visibly distraught and emotional Weichel knew he let a golden opportunity slip away. “I started the second round slowly,” said Weichel. “I didn’t want him to recover after the first round. I started on the offensive in the second round and unfortunately I got caught.”

En superpezula ago, Bobby "The Dominator" Lashley (13-2), de Coconut Creek, Fla., Faris rapidan laboron de Kaj “La Viro” charles (9-3), dominating the 29-year-old with a great ground and pound, an arsenal that including multiple suplexes. Referee McCarthy stopped the fight at 4:14 in the second round resulting in a TKO for the three-time NAIA amateur wrestling champion and his third straight win under the Bellator banner.

charles, who took the fight on two weeks’ notice after James Thompson dropped out due to injury, was overmatched by the considerably larger Lashley, who kept himself in great position to eventually vie for the heavyweight title.

The 38-year-old referenced his esteemed wrestling background as a major factor in claiming victory. “You always go back to your basics in a fight and wrestling is my background,” said Lashley. “I need to keep moving forward, the heavyweight division is wide open. I need to keep my eyes open.”

Daniel Straus (23-6), de Coconut Creek, Fla. looked like he has fully rebounded from his title shot loss to Pitbull Freire, convincingly beating Henry Corrales (12-1) of La Mirada, Calif. tra submetado (guillotine choke) #?E 3:47 into round two.

Straus looked like he came into the fight to make a statement, quickly attacking Corrales with consecutive blows to the head that had the Californian staggering backwards on multiple occasions.

“I’m still dominating people,” said Straus. “This is what I do. Win or lose I come in here to beat up my opponent.”

Straus seemed confident that he would have no issues reclaiming his belt. “Whoever wins the featherweight belt #?I-nokte,” exclaimed Straus. “I am coming to beat you up.”

It was a valiant effort by Corrales, who was making his Bellator debut, but it was obvious that he was a step behind Straus from the opening bell. The loss was just the first in Corrales’ career.

En la nokto’s unue #?efa-karta konkurso, lightweight and hometown favorite Mikaelo Chandler (13-3), of High Ridge, Mo., Faris rapidan laboron de Derek “The Stallion” Campos (15-5), Devanta nur 2:17 secondsto score a submission (malantaŭ-nuda ĉokilo) Gajno.

Coming off three straight losses, Chandler clearly looked relieved following the fight. “Derek Campos is a tough guy, he hit me in my mouth and bloodied me a bit,” said Chandler. “I was excited to fight this guy. I’m not in this sport to tip toe and find easy fights.”

Feeling notably confident, Chandler called out current lightweight champion Will Brooks, who happened to be sitting cage side. “I want that belt back,” said Chandler. “Will Brooks, that belt has my name on it, wherever you are.”
