Top 154-Pound World Champions & Contenders Hit New York Next Week Ahead of Saturday, אָקטאָבער 14 SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® Tripleheader from Barclays Center in Brooklyn

Fighters Share Their Thoughts & Experiences Fighting in New York Ahead of Premier Boxing Champions Event
ברוקלין (אָקטאָבער 6, 2017) – Six of the top 154-pound world champions and contenders will look to put on a show for the fans in New York as they prepare to enter the ring for a SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING tripleheader שבת, אָקטאָבער 14 פון באַרקלייַס צענטראַל, די היים פון ברוקלין באָקסינג®.
The Premier Boxing Champions event is headlined by עריסלאַנדי “די אמעריקאנער חלום” לאַראַdefending against undefeated טעררעלל גאַושאַ. Coverage on SHOWTIME begins at 10 פּ.ם. און/7 פּ.ם. PT and features hard-hitting unbeaten champion דזשערמעלל “אייַזן מענטש” טשאַרלאָ taking on top contender עריקסאַן “האַמער” לובין און “ביסטרע” דזשאַררעטט כערד making his first title defense against tough former world champion אַוסטין “קיין צווייפל” פאָרעל.
די אַנדיפיטיד 2012 יוז. Olympian Gausha is the only fighter on the card who will be making his Barclays Center debut. אָבער, the Cleveland-native has fought once in New York before and looks forward to a return, this time on itsbiggest stage.
I’m absolutely thrilled to be able to fight at Barclays Center and add my name to the list of great fighters who have competed there,” said Gausha. “There’s something special about fighting in New York. The energy from the fans is really unique. I think I’m the perfect guy to come in and handle that pressure and have it elevate my game.
Gausha faces WBA Champion Erislandy Lara, who won a decision against Austin Trout in their 2013 title showdown at Barclays Center. דאס מאָל, Lara looks forward to taking advantage of his elevated role as the main event of this show.
My memories of fighting at Barclays Center were incredible,” האט לאַראַ. “I put on one of my best performances against a great champion in Austin Trout and I’m looking to be even better onאָקטאָבער 14. To be headlining in New York is incredibly special and important to me. There’s no better time to be at my very best than in front of these fans.
Both WBC Champion Jermell Charlo and WBC No. 1 contender Erickson Lubin delivered sensational knockouts to make their Barclays Center debuts in 2017. Charlo made his first world title defense in April by stopping Charles Hatley and wants nothing else but to take care of business when he returns to the squared circle at Barclays Center.
I’m honored to be fighting in Brooklyn,” האט טשאַרלאָ. “This is another exciting fight card like the last time I was here. I did what I had to do in April. I let my opponent run his mouth and then I took care of him. I’m going to let that happen again. I can’t wait for another opportunity to grow my fan base here in New York.
Lubin has the strongest connection to the city of the six fighters, as he has made his training camp in nearby Hackensack, נ.דזש., and is frequently able to visit his mother, who is living in Queens. He delivered a one-punch knockout of Jorge Cota at Barclays Center in March on CBS to earn this title opportunity on אָקטאָבער 14.
My last fight was my first ever in New York as a pro or amateur, and it was a memorable one,” said Lubin. “I left the crowd satisfied and entertained them with my squat and hit him with an overhand to knock him out. New York is like my second home and I love it here.
I love visiting my mom in Queens and eating all the Haitian food she cooks, but I have to wait until after the fight to enjoy it. I’ve really embraced training up here though. We didn’t want to break camp at all. So we came up here for the press conference and were able to get in a workout that day. I’ll be a thousand percent ready once fight week rolls around.
For IBF Champion Jarrett Hurd and former champion Austin Trout, New York has been a place for career-defining moments. For Hurd, זייַן מאַרץ 2016 stoppage of Mexican Olympian Carlos Molina at Barclays Center buoyed him towards his world title shot and eventually championship triumph.
When I beat an Olympian like Carlos Molina, that was definitely when I first thought that I was a fighter who could win a world title and it proved I could compete against anybody,” האט הורד. “I think I picked up some fans in New York between that and beating the ‘Brooklyn Rocky’ פראַנק גאַלאַרזאַ. New York always shows me love, so I feel it’s my duty to give them something to cheer about.
I’m excited to be in New York because it’s very close to my home in Maryland too. I’m organizing buses for my fans to come up and watch me so I’m expecting another great atmosphere on fight night.
Already a world champion, Trout had the opportunity to face future Hall of Famer Miguel Cotto in 2012 אין ניו יארק, and he was able to rise to the occasion that the stage demanded. He dominated Cotto over 12 rounds in his first start in New York and although he faltered in his return to New York against Lara, he remains fond of fighting in The Big Apple.
New York is always a great place to be,” האט טראָוט. “I had the biggest moment of my career in New York, but I want to make up for my last fight at Barclays Center, so fans can definitely expect fireworks on אָקטאָבער 14. איך בין קומען צו קעמפן.
My mother was born and raised in New York so I always look forward to the opportunity to compete here. My favorite thing to do is go to a Chinese restaurant on Avenue X after the fight with my family and I’m hoping to do that as a two-time world champion after this fight.

Here is what the fighters had to say from their respective training camps:
עריסלאַנדי לאַראַ
(24-2-2, 14 קאָס) From Guantanamo, קובאַ & Training with Ronnie Shields in Houston
ק. How has training camp gone? Has it been affected by the Hurricanes and what is your message for the people effected in your training home in Houston and home in Miami?
Training camp is going smooth as always. A lot of hard work has been put into the camp. As far as the hurricanes, it flooded bad in the areas close to our gym, but we were only gone for a couple of days. The roads to the gym were flooded, so we couldn’t go to the gym on those days. I just want to say I’m praying for all those affected by the hurricanes in Houston, Miami and Puerto Rico.
ק. What do you know about Gausha and what kind of problems does he present? What do you have to be prepared to do to get the win?
Gausha is a very good fighter. I know he was an Olympian and is currently undefeated as a professional. There’s nothing he does that I haven’t already seen. אַזוי, I’m just going to stick to my game plan and listen to my corner. If I stay composed I will be able to put on the performance I’m looking for.
ק. What does it mean to you to be on a card with all of these 154-pound champions and top contenders? How important is it to make a statement to the rest of the division?
It’s a great honor, especially since I’m in the main event. It shows I’m the top fighter in the division. Getting the win by all means necessary will be my statement. If I get the knockout, it will be icing on the cake as the say here in the U.S.
ק. What do you think is the significance of you being the longest-reigning 154-pound champion? If you’re able to win on October 14 what fights in the division do you want to make in the future?
It means a lot. I have a goal to break the record, held by Gianfranco Ross, for most title defenses at 11. But I’ll always be ready to fight anyone they put in front of me. I want big challenges so I would love to fight with GGG or Canelo, and I would also jump at the chance to unify against Cotto or Hurd.
טעררעלל גאַושאַ
(20-0, 9 קאָס) From Cleveland, אָהיאָ & Training with Manny Robles in Norwalk, קאַליפאָרניאַ
ק. How has training camp gone so far? Who have you been sparring with and what have they been able to do to prepare you for Lara? Have you tried anything new this training camp?
“טראַינינג האט שוין גרויס. We’ve been at it for 10 weeks. I’ve been sparring with good partners, even though I can’t pronounce most of their names. We brought in a bronze medalist from the 2012 אָלימפּיקס, Chris Pearson and a great Nigerian fighter as well. They’re defensively skilled and as close as we could find to Lara’s style. He’s hard to mimic, but they’re close. We’re not really doing anything new, just working more rounds. I’ve done lots of 12-rounders in sparring, but we’ll save the rest of our secrets for fight night.
ק. What does it mean to you to fight for a world title for the first time? Is there extra motivation from seeing other 2012 Olympians who’ve picked up titles?
It’s a blessing and a dream come true. I’ve been working on this since I first laced up the gloves. Not everyone gets this shot and I plan on taking full advantage. Those guys from the 2012 Olympics are my brothers. We talked about things like this back at the Olympics. Then they went out and showed me it’s possible. I want to be the next one to pick up a title to fulfill my promise too.
ק. What kind of problems does Lara present in the ring? How do you prepare for his skill set and what he does well in the ring?
I’ve been watching Lara for a while. I know he’s a mover. Guys like that are slick and he’s a good counter-puncher. He’s a crafty veteran and has fought a lot of top guys. But I have a lot of experience myself. I’m undefeated and it’s my time.
ק. What does it mean to you to be part of a tripleheader with the top talent in the division? How important is it to take advantage of this opportunity and put on the best performance possible?
Being involved in this lets me know where I’m at. Not just anybody got on this card. We earned our way here and this night will open up other big fights in the division. There’s no pressure for me, כאָטש. I put in all the hard work at the gym. אויף קעמפן נאַכט, I just let things flow.

דאָ איז וואָס די פּרעסע קאָנפֿערענץ פּאַרטיסאַפּאַנץ האט צו זאָגן מיטוואָך:
עריסלאַנדי לאַראַ
I like to do my talking in the ring. אויף אָקטאָבער 14 that’s exactly what I’m going to do. It’s an honor to be headlining on SHOWTIME and we’re looking forward to a great fight.
I’m excited to be part of this huge card. This is a great event. These are the best guys in the division. It’s a pleasure to be the main event and I look forward to putting on a show.
Gausha is a good fighter. He’s an Olympian and a guy who wants to win and become world champion. I know what that feels likes, but I also know what it takes. We’ll see how it plays out on אָקטאָבער 14.
“איך בין יקסייטאַד פֿאַר דעם קאַמף. I’ve beat champions, former champions and now I’ll add an Olympian. After I take care of business I look forward to unifying the division.
My prayers and my thoughts are with everyone down in Houston. I have family and friends who were affected. It’s a sad situation, but Houston has to be strong. That’s why I’m going to have ‘Houston Strongon my trunks because we all need to stick together and unite. That’s the way we’ll make it through.
טעררעלל גאַושאַ
I was extremely excited to get the call for this fight. I’ve been working for this my whole career and it’s a great opportunity. Lara is considered to be the best in the division and I want to fight the best. Now is my time.
I’ll have to make adjustments in there. Obviously with Lara you have to cut the ring off. We have a game plan that I’m going to go in there and execute on אָקטאָבער 14.
I’m fighting a tough competitor. He’s crafty. We all know he has skills. But I’ve prepared for this and I’m going to do what I have to do. I like to do my talking in the ring and I’ll leave it all on the line on fight night.
I’m a more mature fighter now. I’m a true professional. I’ve been through some things in my career that have helped me leading up to this fight. I’m well-seasoned and ready for the test.
I’m training with my coach Manny Robles in Norwalk, California and it’s been going really well. We’re adding a few things for this fight but mostly just putting in the same hard work that we always do.
“איך בין ברוך צו זייַן אין דעם שטעלע. I feel like all my hard work is paying off now that I’m on a big card like this. I worked hard and I deserve this chance.
דזשערמעלל טשאַרלאָ
I’m honored to be in Brooklyn. This is another exciting fight card like the last card I was on here. I did what I had to do in April. I let the opponent run his mouth and then I took care of him. I’m going to let that happen again.
“איך האָבן צו נעמען מייַלע פון דעם געלעגנהייט. I know that I have a lot of advantages but I just need to go seize the moment. He’s a tough, strong fighter who’s going to be ready to take my title.
It’s interesting to see a guy as young as he is come for a world title. I’ve been here a long time in the pro game. It’s a big stage for both of us. I’ve fought a lot of tough guys up to this point. This is what I’ve been preparing for.
I want to fight Jarrett Hurd after this. I’d also like to get an opportunity to unify against Miguel Cotto. I want to show the old guard that the Charlo twins are as good as anyone.
I got my hands full with Ericskon Lubin and I know he comes to fight. He’s a dog, but I’m an animal as well. I’m going to step up and do what I’ve done each time before.
I’m doing this for Houston. Houston is going through a lot. My friends and family are all affected. It really doesn’t seem real to me. I’m ready to help however I can.
עריקסאַן לובין
This is the fight I asked for. I said I wanted to go the WBC route and when it was officially announced I was really excited. I’ve been training for this since my last fight. I’m even more motivated now to go get the belt.
I’ve been sparring with bigger guys. Guys who throw one-two combos like Jermell. I’m getting prepared mentally and physically for this fight.
Jermell has some power. He moves pretty well, but I’ll be prepared for everything. Whether he pressures or boxes me I’ll be prepared.
I laugh at people who say this is too soon for me. Mike Tyson was 19 when he dared to be great. This is the perfect time for me to show that I’m not a regular 21-year-old.
This is a stacked card we have here and I’m ready to showcase my talent. I want to prove I’m the best in this division. I think we’re bringing back the era of all fighters going out there and giving it their all each time they step into the ring. I always steal the show and I’m planning to do that אָקטאָבער 14.”
JARRETT HURD
It means everything to be defending my belt on a card like this. I fought here at Barclays Center on the Keith Thurman vs. Shawn Porter undercard so to be back here against a veteran in Austin Trout is great. I can’t wait to put on a show.
We’re going to have two buses of fans coming up here. The ‘Swiftfans will be in the house. It’s going to be a great atmosphere on fight night.
In my last bout, Tony Harrison won some early rounds by boxing me, so we’ve known that my next opponent is going to try to outbox me. We expect him to move around and use the ring against me.
This has been a long training camp. We’ve had this bout set for a long time. We’re more than prepared.
We’ve been training to catch a ‘Trout. We’ll put the bait out there and let him come in. If he doesn’t take the bait, we’ll step right in the water and get him out of there.
I’m going to keep the pressure on him. I’m planning on attacking the body and making sure I cut off the ring. He’s going to be on the move so I have to be prepared.
My fans can expect a stoppage on אָקטאָבער 14. He’s got three losses against great opponents but none have been able to stop him. I’m going to separate myself by being the first to do it.
AUSTIN TROUT
This is going to put me back to where I belong. Right back on top. This is for my legacy so this is of the utmost importance.
It’s an honor to be on a card like this. I’m blessed to be a part of this great lineup of fighters. This place is the new hotspot of boxing and I can’t wait to perform.
Hurd is tall, he’s a big guy who I think is going to come forward. We’re preparing for the best possible Hurd that there could be.
I’m ready to take my career to a whole new level. I’ve been in big fights, but none like this. There is so much riding on this fight. He wants to make a name for himself off of my name.
He didn’t have to take this fight and I’m happy he did. But he messed up. I’m leaving the ring with his belt and his ‘0.’ I want to stake my claim as the best in the division.
I’m coming home as a world champion. I’ll be a two-time world champion who’s going to unify this division. I’m going to have my hand raised at the end of the night.
Lou דיבעללאַ, פרעזידענט פון דיבעללאַ פֿאַרווייַלונג
This is going to be a sensational show. If you’re a boxing fan this is going to be an amazing show. It’s going to bring some clarity to the division with six talented guys matching off. It’s a boxing fan’s fight and it’s priced that way.
What boxing needs is the best matchups. Boxing needs shows like this. These are the kind of shows that SHOWTIME has been showing for the last few years. There is no question that they’re the number one network in boxing.
This card is about finding out who will be the last man standing in the 154-pound division. It starts on אָקטאָבער 14 and it’ll all go down on SHOWTIME.
סטיווען עספּינאָזאַ, Executive VP & אַלגעמיינע מאַנאַגער, שאָוטיים ספורט
Last week we had the world’s attention for an unprecedented event in Mayweather vs. מאַגרעגער. What this sport needs to do to continue to expand is to follow that up with high quality boxing matchups. That’s why this card is so important. It was critical that we had a top to bottom high quality card to capture those people who started paying attention to boxing on Aug. 26.
Over the last couple of years, SHOWTIME along with Barclays Center and DiBella Entertainment have brought fans the biggest and best fights in boxing. This might be the highest quality card from top to bottom since we started working with Barclays Center.
This tripleheader will be the 18טה, 19טה און 20טה world title fights this year on SHOWTIME. More than anyone else. More important and meaningful fights than anyone else. This is a talent-rich division we’ve been showcasing for years.
I’ve never had any doubts about boxing’s future. Boxing is very healthy. All you have to do is look at these six fighters in their prime, taking on top competition. I know that this sport is in very good health.
ברעט יאָרמאַרק, CEO of Brooklyn Sports & פאַרווייַלונג
It has been an incredible year for BROOKLYN BOXING. Probably the best since we opened Barclays Center. אויף אקטאבער, 28, we will celebrate our fifth anniversary. We’re very committed to boxing, not only showcasing the best and brightest talent, but to use it as a platform for those who aspire to get in this ring. We’re committed to their futures.
There are a lot of championships on the line which should make it a great night. All of these fights promise to bring action to our great fans. We look forward to seeing everyone on the 14טה.”

לאַס וועגאַס (סעפּטעמבער 6, 2017) – Let’s play two! Boxing fans will have the rare opportunity to enjoy a boxing doubleheader with two separate live shows on different networks that will showcase five world championship matches from coast to coast on שבת, אָקטאָבער 14 presented by Premier Boxing Champions.
In the first show, sensational featherweight champion לעאָ סאַנטאַ קרוז (33-1-1, 18 קאָס) will defend his world title against קריס אַוואַלאָוז (27-5, 20 קאָס), while three-division world champion אַבנער מאַרעס (30-2-1, 15 קאָס) defends his 126-pound belt against once-beaten Andres Gutierrez (35-1-1, 25 קאָס) ביי סטובהוב צענטער אין קאַרסאָן, California in primetime on FOX & FOX Deportes at 7:30 פּ.ם. און/4:30 פּ.ם. פּט.
Following that will be a scintillating 154-pound world championship tripleheader on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING live on SHOWTIME from Barclays Center in Brooklyn at 10 פּ.ם. און/7 פּ.ם. פּט.
עריסלאַנדי לאַראַ (24-2-2, 14 קאָס), arguably the most-skilled boxer in the division and the longest reigning world champion, will headline and defend his title against undefeated 2012 יוז. אָלימפּיאַן טעררעלל גאַושאַ (20-0, 9 קאָס). Hard-hitting undefeated champion דזשערמעלל טשאַרלאָ (29-0, 14 קאָס) will take on top contender עריקסאַן לובין (18-0, 13 קאָס) ווייַלע דזשאַררעטט כערד (20-0, 14 קאָס) will make his first title defense against tough former world champion אַוסטין טראָוט (30-3, 17 קאָס).
It’s a common occurrence in Major League Baseball, the NFL and the NBA to be able to watch two or three games back-to-back on the same day, but it is rare in boxing to watch back-to-back live shows from two locations on the same day,” said Tim Smith, VP of Communications for Haymon Boxing. “This is a unique opportunity for boxing fans to watch two separate live cards on two different networks from both U.S. coasts, featuring five world championship matches in the 126-pound and 154-pound divisiontwo of the hottest divisions in boxing. If you’re a boxing fan you’re going to want to get your popcorn ready for October 14.
All five of the featured championship matches hold major significance in the future for the winners.
If Santa Cruz and Mares win their respective matches, they have both agreed to terms to meet in a highly anticipated rematch and featherweight title consolidation bout in early 2018. Santa Cruz won a hard-fought, narrow decision against Mares in 2015.
The 154-pound title tripleheader features four undefeated boxers and the very best the division has to offer. The winners in each match will face each other in the future to determine which one will eventually be the undisputed 154-pound world champion.

We are thrilled to continue our best year yet of BROOKLYN BOXING with our fifth major boxing event of 2017,” האט ברעט יאָרמאַרק, CEO of Brooklyn Sports & פאַרווייַלונג. “We always aim to deliver fight fans an evening packed with top-notch matchups from start to finish, and this card certainly does that.
לאַראַ, a 34-year-old Cuban southpaw, owns victories over Trout, Alfredo Angulo and a slew of former champions and top contenders in addition to a controversial split decision loss to Canelo Alvarez on the way to cementing his credentials as the top boxer in the division. Lara will make the seventh defense of his world title as he continues to train with renowned trainer Ronnie Shields.
I’m very excited to be making another title defense back on SHOWTIME headlining a great tripleheader,” האט לאַראַ. “This is an interesting fight versus an undefeated U.S. Olympian in Terrell Gausha. I know he will be ready because it’s his opportunity to beat the best fighter in the division and become a champion. But come fight night, he will quickly realize and know why I’m the consensus No. 1 super welterweight in the world. After this performance, I look forward to, one-by-one, adding a WBC and IBF title to my collection.
The 29-year-old Gausha, פון קליוולאַנד, אָהיאָ, earned a shot at the world title with solid victories in his last two matches. He won a hard-fought decision over Steven Martinez last August and followed it up with another impressive victory over Luis Hernandez on פעברואר. 10. Lara figures to be his toughest battle in his pro career that dates back to 2012.
I’ve been talking about this since I was a three-year-old watching Muhammad Ali on television,” said Gausha. “I’m here now and blessed for this opportunity. Lara’s a tough fighter, champion and the best opponent I’ll fight on paper. He’s been in with the bigger names. But the better the opponent, the better I am, and I’m coming to dethrone him. He’s crafty, but the world hasn’t seen all that I can bring to the table. I’ll make adjustments on the fly and do things that I’ve never shown before. Seeing other Olympic team members win titles gives me motivation to earn the victory and the notoriety I’ve been looking for.
Charlo of Houston, Texas will be making the second defense of his title, which he won by knockout victory over John Jackson on May 21, 2016. The 27-year-old Charlo successfully defended the title with a highlight reel knockout victory over fellow Texan Charles Hatley onאַפּריל 22 בייַ באַרקלייַס צענטראַל. He and his twin brother, דזשערמאַלל, both held world titles at 154-pounds, before Jermall relinquished his title to move up to 160 פונט. Charlo now trains in Dallas with Derrick James, trainer of world champion Errol Spence Jr.
Lubin is young and hungry and I know he always comes to fight, but there’s a reason why I’m where I am in the sport,” האט טשאַרלאָ. “I’ve been through the trenches and I don’t plan to stop anytime soon. This is what boxing always needstwo young, undefeated fighters willing to risk their ‘0'. But I think it’s a little early for Lubin to step in the ring with me, and I plan on keeping my title. אָקטאָבער 14 I’ll show everyone why I’m a world champion.
לובין, 21, is nicknamed “די האַממער” because of his power in both hands and his ability to bring a quick conclusion to every match. Lubin of Orlando, פלאַ., has picked up 10 victories since the beginning of 2015 including seven knockouts on his way to contender status. Lubin most recently scored a sensational knockout of Jorge Cota in a title eliminator in March at Barclays Center.
This is a fight for the fans,” said Lubin. “You have an undefeated champion against an undefeated Prospect of the Year. I’m very excited to be fighting for the belt and it’s truly been a dream of mine ever since I first got into boxing. Come fight night, Charlo will either give it to me or I’m going to rip the belt out of his hands. Many fans and reporters have said that he’s one of the best, and that will make it even sweeter. My mentality will be to seek and destroy, so everyone tune-in to SHOWTIME on אָקטאָבער 14, you will witness boxing’s new superstar!”
הורד, 26, will be making the first defense of the title that he won with a KO victory over Tony Harrison on פעברואר. 25. קאַמף פון אַקקאָקעעק, מאַרילאַנד, Hurd soared up the rankings with stoppage victories over previously unbeaten fighters Frank Galarza and Oscar Molina at Barclays Center plus veteran Jo Jo Dan.
I got a Trout to catch,” האט הורד. “His losses have all been to top champions Canelo Alvarez, Erislandy Lara and Jermall Charlo. But I’m on a streak of six straight knockouts and Trout has never been stopped, so I’m looking for the stoppage to make a statement that the other fighters couldn’t make. This is definitely my toughest fight, and I didn’t have to take it since it’s a voluntary defense. But I wanted this fight to stop Austin Trout, proving to the fans and people in general I’m the real deal and a true champion.
פאָרעל, a 31-year-old southpaw from Las Cruces, New Mexico, has faced some of the top 154-pound boxers in the division. He defeated Miguel Cotto in New York to win a title in 2012 and has close losses to Canelo Alvarez and Lara on his resume. In his most recent attempt at winning the title, Trout gave Jermall Charlo perhaps the toughest test of his career after looking impressive in four straight victories leading up to the challenge.
‘What a blessing it is to have this opportunity at a world title shot,” האט טראָוט. “I want to thank everyone who has been in my corner to help get me career defining fights. It’s refreshing to see young champions showing heart and testing their skill with the best in the game. With thatsaid, salute to Hurd for allowing this fight to go through.

Jermall Charlo Vacates IBF Junior Middleweight World Title

After Going Undefeated At 154 פּאָונדס, טשאַרלאָ
Moves To 160 pounds In Search of Bigger Challenges And World Title In
Tough Middleweight Division
האָוסטאָן, טעקסאַס (פעברואַר 16, 2017) – Undefeated champion דזשערמאַלל טשאַרלאָ relinquished the IBF junior middleweight title this afternoon in order to pursue bigger challenges and another world championship in the middleweight division.
טשאַרלאָ, 26, who lives and trains in Houston, has a sterling record of 25-0 מיט 19 קאָס. He won the title with a TKO victory over Cornelius Bundrage on Sept. 12, 2015, and successfully defended it three times, defeating Wilky Campfort, former 154-pound champion Austin Trout and top contender Julian Williams. Charlo leaves the division after an impressive KO victory over Williams at the Galen Center on the USC campus in Los Angeles on Dec. 10, 2016.
טאני כעריסאַן (24-1, 20 קאָס) and Jarrett Hurd (19-0, 13 קאָס) will battle for the vacant IBF 154-pound title on the undercard of Deontay Wilder defending his heavyweight title against Gerald Washington on primetime on Premier Boxing Champions on FOX and FOX Deportes at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama on שבת, פעברואַר 25. טעלאַווייזד קאַווערידזש הייבט בייַ 8 פּ.ם. און/5 פּ.ם. פּט.
Charlo’s twin brother, דזשערמעלל, still has the WBC 154-pound title and will defend it against Charles Hatley at the MGM National Harbor in Maryland on שבת, מאַרץ 11.
I’ve been thinking about moving to 160 pounds for a while now,” Charlo said. “It was a struggle for me to make the weight for the last title fight. Once I captured the title I defended it immediately, because I wasn’t sure how long I could hold the weight. I held it an extra year to fight Austin Trout and Julian Williams. I feel there are bigger and better things for me at 160 where I can still hold my weight and be stronger. The idea of being a two-time world champion is a big goal for me.
If there were a big fight at 154 pounds left for me, I’d stick around and wait for it. But there isn’t anything there that can be made quickly. And I wouldn’t fight my brother or my gym mate and close friend, Erislandy Lara.
Charlo’s trainer, ראַני שיעלדס, is in favor of the move up to a higher division.
It’s a move that has to be made,” said Shields. “He was definitely having trouble making that weight. No sense in holding himself down in making that weight. Going up to 160 pounds is a must. I think he does well there. He’s big enough to handle the weight. It’s not like we have to do anything special to compete at 160 פונט. That’s basically what he isa middleweight.
Charlo doesn’t anticipate any problems with moving up. He plans to make his middleweight debut soon.
I’ve been training for a couple weeks now. It’s like a mini-camp. I’ve been shaking out,” Charlo said. “We’re looking at May to be completely ready. I’m a big athlete already. I’m just looking forward to taking my superstar status and competing with the big boys up there.

לאַס וועגאַס (מייַ 21, 2016) – On a night Erislandy “The American Dream” Lara successfully defended his WBA Super Welterweight Championship with a hard-fought 12-round unanimous decision over Vanes “The Nightmare” Martirosyan, undefeated brothers דזשערמאַלל און דזשערמעלל טשאַרלאָ, פון האָוסטאָן, became the first twins in boxing history to hold world titles in the same weight class.

דזשערמאַלל טשאַרלאָ (24-0, 18 קאָס) retained his IBF Junior Middleweight World Championship with a unanimous 12-round decision over former world champion Austin “No Doubt” Trout (30-3, 17 קאָס) of Las Cruces, נ.מ., in the second of three world title fights on שאָוטיים טשאַמפּיאָנשיפּ באָקסינג® פון די טשעלסי ין The Cosmopolitan פון לאַס וועגאַס.

In the opening bout of the three fight telecast, דזשערמעלל טשאַרלאָ (28-0, 13 קאָס) earned the vacant WBC Super Welterweight World Championship by rallying from five points down to register an eighth-round knockout over John “Da Rock” Jackson (20-3, 15 קאָס), פון סט. טאמעס, ווירגין אינזלען (Video highlights: http://s.sho.com/1VeFFVq).

Lara outpointed Martirosyan in the main event by the scores of 116-111 צוויי מאָל און 115-112. There were no knockdowns. Martirosyan had a point deducted for a low blow in the 11טה in a rematch of a May 2012 fight that ended in a technical draw.

Born one minute apart, the identical twins celebrated their 26טה birthday this past Thursday, מייַ 19. Jermall is one minute older than Jermell.

Jermall Charlo stuck to his game plan and fought behind his jab, פארווארפן 292 jabs and connecting at an 18 percent clip. It was a balanced attack from both fighters, but the power and accuracy from the physically bigger Charlo was a difference.

“It wasn’t a struggle, it was a great experience,” said Charlo after his second successful title defense. “I want to thank God for allowing me and my twin brother to see this day. History.

“Austin is a hell of a fighter. He’s a beast. This was my first time going 12, but it didn’t matter because I knew I was in shape.

“My game plan was to execute with the jab. I knew he was going to try to stop me, but that didn’t happen. There’s no way you can tame a lion.

“It felt good because I knew my brother would get the job done. We belong on this level. We need these titles to get the big fights and we’re going to keep these titles to keep rising.

“I changed my mindwe’re going to stay right here (בייַ 154). Making 154 pounds wasn’t as bad as everyone made it out to be.”

“Hat’s off to Jermall Charlo. He fought a hell of a fight,” Austin Trout said. “I felt like I did enough to win. They won’t give me a close decision, so it’s time to start taking these cats out. But I can’t make excuses. I fought my ass off, Charlo fought his ass off and hats off to him.

“I’m going to live to fight another day. You’re going to see me back. We’re warriors out here.’’

Two minutes into the eighth round, דזשערמעלל טשאַרלאָ, trailing 69-64 on the three judges’ scorecards, landed a perfect counter right hand to Jackson’s left eye. As Jackson dropped his guard to insure his mouthpiece was in place, Jermell connected with two more right hands that sent Jackson falling forward into his corner. Defenseless and seemingly out on his feet, referee Tony Weeks stepped in immediately and stopped it at 0:51.

“It’s history,” said Jermell, who entered the match as the WBC No. 1 contender and became the 66טה שאָבאָקס: די ניו גענעראַטיאָן fighter to capture a world title.

“We did it. A lot of fighters don’t come out of Houston and we did it. I’m waiting for my brother next. We’ve been boxing for all of these years and it had to happen.

“I was behind. He was boxing, he was moving around a lot. That was unexpected of him. I thought he was going to come out to brawl. I had to make an adjustment and I did.

“When he started slowing down, I was able to catch him with a shot. I knew that if he could have continued he could have come back so I had to hit him.”

While both were selective with their punches, throwing just 427 combined shots through eight and a half rounds, Jermell was the more accurate fighter. The new WBC champ landed 23 פּראָצענט פון זיין גאַנץ פּאַנטשיז, אַרייַנגערעכנט 34 percent of his power shots against Jackson.

“It was a journey to get here,” said Jackson, די וובק ס קיין. 2 contender going in and son of former world champion Julian “The Hawk” Jackson.

“I feel like I was ahead and I came up short. He caught me with a punch and I was trying to fix my mouthpiece. Then he hit me and I was out. It hit me in the eye, but my mouthpiece was coming out. I was trying to push in my mouthpiece back in and he hit me. איך געוואוסט ווו איך איז געווען. It dazed me, but I wasn’t knocked out.

“It’s boxing. עס איז געווען אַ גרויס קאַמף. I felt I was winning the fight, I got caught and that was it.

“I dedicated the fight to my dad and I hope I didn’t let him down. I fell short. You win some and you lose some.”

Said the elder Jackson: “I’m proud. It took a lot for us to get this far. I know my people are proud. We are strong people and we are coming back.”

SHOWTIME’s סטיוו פאַרהאָאָד called the Lara vs. Martirosyan rematch “a typical Lara fight.”

“As usual Lara’s style is extremely difficult for the judges to score,” Farhood said. “He’s so selective with his punches, yet he lands such a high percentage of them. And to make it even more difficult, a lot of Martirosyan’s body punches were blocked. The judges agreed on seven of the 12 ראָונדס. It clearly was a close fight and what got Lara over the top was the 10-8 score in round 11.

“We benefit from the use of replay. Watching the punch that brought the deduction on replay, I believe that it wasn’t a low blow.

“Lara did what Lara does. Martirosyan fought about as well as he could. The difference was Lara’s accuracy and ring generalship. I think Martirosyan’s competitiveness made it a good fight.”

לאַראַ, 33, was making his fourth title defense. “This is normal,” said Lara who landed 60 percent of the 160-plus power punches. “This is boxing, not baseball. Low blows and headbutts happen. I’m a very intelligent fighter and at no point did I feel this fight was going to be lost.

“My mother and kids are still there so it would be a great privilege to go fight in my native Cuba. Everything is possible in this world. I didn’t think I’d be champion of the world and here I am.

“I want to tell Team Vanes thank you for giving me the rematch. איך בין גרייט צו קעמפן אַבי ווער. I’d like to fight Canelo.

“The Charlo brothers are my teammates and having three of us going back as champions is a great thing.”

מאַרטיראָסיאַן, the aggressor throughout, disputed the decision.

“I was chasing him all night,"ער האט געזאגט. “I put on the pressure. I thought I did enough to win. That was not a low blow. Replays show the trunks were high.

“I never ducked anyone. No one wanted to fight Lara. I stepped up and fought him again. I’ll fight anyone.”

Undefeated IBF No. 1 contender and mandatory challenger Julian “J Rock” Williams (22-0-1, 14 קאָס), was interviewed between fights by SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING’s ברייאַןCuster. ווילליאַמס, פון פילאדעלפיע, has been calling out the Charlo Twins.

“I can’t get the fights I deserve,” Williams said. “But I’ve got a good team. I have Al Haymon and he got me the mandatory for the winner of Charlo-Trout. Guys know it’s a rough fight if they step in with me. And they know 99 percent of the time they will lose.

“Jermall Charlo is an undefeated champion. I’m undefeated. That’s what boxing is all about – two young, hungry champions going at it in their primes. אַזוי, I am interested in fighting Jermall Charlo.

On Charlo saying he’s sick of reading your tweets and he’d like to shut you up…

“געזונט, he doesn’t have to wait much longer so he doesn’t have any choice now,” Williams said. “I’m the mandatory and if he wins, we are going to fight next.”
