“I am a true Irishman who developed through a system that won multiple titles and I was the Irish Team captain for five years. I’m helping develop strong relations between USA and Ireland that can help both programs. Ireland has been among the best of the world – amazing considering the geographical size of Ireland — with its fighters’ great hearts along with their technique and skill. There’s a lot of talent and resources in the states, but amateur boxers have been taught to develop skills more for professional boxing. Here there is a variety of different ethnic groups: Mexicans, African-American and Caucasians, аз ҳад зиёд. It’s truly a melting pot and each has a unique style of boxing. We are now providing coaching education for US programs to be sustainable long term.”

Лоуэл, Омма. (Феврал 16, 2018) – Fourteen novice division champions were crowned at last night’s championship finals of the New England Tournament of Champions, part of the 72nd annual New England Golden Gloves Championships, last night at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
Western New England captured top honors in team standings with eight individual winners, followed by Central New England (5), Northern New England (1) and Southern New England (0).
East Walpole bantamweight Noelle Boran was named Most Outstanding Boxer.

The tradition started back in the 19уми century with “The Boston Strongboy,” Юҳанно. L. In the 1950’s, Woburn lightweight “Ирландӣ” Tommy Collins (61-12, 44 KOs) was dropped 10 times at the Boston Garden by world champion Jimmy Carter, until he finally succumbed in the fourth round. His gutsy performance, Аммо, earned him an appearance on the popular Ed Sullivan Show.
Arlington heavyweight Том McNeeley (37-14, 28 KOs), unsuccessfully fought for the world title in 1961, stopped in the fourth round of his Toronto fight versus defending champion Душкино Паттерсон, and McNeeley’s son, Boston-native and later Medfield resident Петрус “Тўфони” McNeeley (47-7, 30 KOs) famously was stopped in the opening round by “Оҳан” Майк Тайсон in the latter’s first fight after his release from prison.
In the 1980’s, Irish boxers made their way to Boston to fight; some returned home after their careers, others relocated in the area. McBride, who still lives in Dorchester, was a stablemate of former Team Ireland head coach and current Team USA head coach, Билли Уолш, at the European Games. Another Ireland Olympian, Wayne “Pocket Rocket” McCullough (27-7, 18 KOs), moved to Las Vegas from Northern Ireland. Irish boxers are still coming to Boston to fight. The Irish team will announce its boxers later this month after the conclusion of its National Championships.

Лоуэл, Омма. (Январ 26, 2018) – The 72nd annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championships continued last night in front of a jacked-up crowd at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium, featuring later round Central New England (Greater Lowell) novice and open class matches.

Novice semifinals and championship finals, as well as some open semifinals and championship final, were held last night. USA Boxing’s No. 7-rated light heavyweight Miguel Teo (Marlboro, MA) captured the Central New England (CNE) open division championship, манъ John Xifafas. of Nashua, N.H., дар даври сеюм. Лоуэл, Омма. (Январ 20, 2018) – The 72nd annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championships continued last night with Central New England (Greater Lowell) novice and open class action at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
Novice quarterfinals and semifinals matches were held last night, as well as preliminary bouts in the open division. The female championship bout in the middleweight class was also held last night, in which Amesbury’s (MA) Jessica McFadden edged Brookline’s Samantha Surface, 3-2.
The Fight of the Night was an open-class welterweight showdown between Salem’s (MA) Charlie Espinal and Amesbury’s Kenny Lawson, which Espinal won by a score of 5-0.

“The first bout (Родригес новое. Picariello) of the night was awesome, one of the best I’ve seen in years,” Tournament Executive Director Бобби Руссо гуфт:. “It was a lesson to be learned for fans: don’t come late! One of the great things about amateur boxing is you never know what the fight of the night will be and last night it was the first. Rodriguez showed a good skill level, especially for a novice, and Picariello had tremendous determination. He kept coming and they both threw a lot of punches. It was a great way to start the show.”

(Январ 6, 2018) – The 72nd annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championships kicked-off last night in front of an enthusiastic crowd, despite traveling in sub-zero temperature, at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium with Central New England (Greater Lowell) preliminary-round action that featured 13 exciting men’s and women’s novice class matches.
The preliminary round will conclude Ҷумъа оянда шаб (Jan. 12) at Lowell Memorial Auditorium with novice and open class matches. See the complete 2018 schedule of events below as well as last night’s complete results.
“I was very happy with last night’s turnover,” Tournament Executive Director Бобби Руссо гуфт:, “especially considering the wicked cold. “It’s a testament to the great fans in the Lowell area who are diehard supporters.”
