STACKED FIGHT CARD OPENS THE YEAR FOR NEF IN LEWISTON

Lewiston, Maine (Januari 11, 2017) -Nya England Fights (NEF) returns to the Androscoggin Bank Colisee on Februari 11, 2017 with its next mixed-martial-arts event, “NEF 27: RESURGENCE.” Tidigare idag, the fight promotion announced the full card for the event. The night will feature both amateur and professional MMA bouts.

 

Headlining the evening will be the semi-finals of the tournament to crown a new professional lightweight champion. The title was vacated when previous champion Devin Powell (8-1) signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Ryan Sanders (12-8) kommer att ta på John Ortolani (8-10) medan Jon Lemke (5-7) ansikten Jesse Erickson (9-5) in a rematch from Bellator 93. The winners of those two bouts will meet in the finals tentatively scheduled for “NEF 28” later this year.

 

In a highly-anticipated heavyweight bout, Ras Hylton (0-0) kommer att göra sin professionella debut mot Mike Hansen (5-4). The 6’6″ Hylton, eller “Rasquatch” as he is known amongst his fans, was voted the “2016 Rookie of the Year” by NEF fans after going 3-0 som amatör. Hansen was a Maine state wrestling champion for Mountain Valley High School (MVHS), and he has developed quite a reputation for downing larger opponents on both the mats and the MMA cage. Hansen was the recipient of the “2016 Submission of the Year” tilldelning.

Young’s teammate, Katie Baker (0-0), will make her in-cage debut against another tough competitor from the Granite State in the form of Alex Walker (2-1), medan Sarah Ziehm makes her debut against Nicole Burgess (0-1).

YOUNG FEMALE ATHLETES LOOK TO MAKE THEIR MARK AT NEF 27

Lewiston, Maine (December 14, 2016) -Nya England Fights (NEF) returns to the Androscoggin Bank Colisee on Februari 11, 2017 with its next mixed-martial-arts event, “NEF 27: RESURGENCE.” Tidigare idag, the fight promotion announced the addition of an amateur women’s bout to the card. Alex Walker (2-1) makes her return to Lewiston to take on the debuting Katie Baker (0-0) in a strawweight matchup.

 

24-year-old Alex Walker has appeared twice previously in the NEF cage. Walker debuted in the spring of 2015 vid “NEF 17” against Randi Beth Boyington (1-3). She returned earlier this year to defeat Nicole Burgess (0-1) with a third-round armbar. This past summer, she captured her first regional title on a fight card in Vermont. Walker is a member of Team Kaze based in Lancaster, New Hampshire.

 

“I can’t wait to get back to work in the NEF cage,” exclaimed Walker. “2017 is going to be a good year and I am looking forward to entertaining the great fans in Maine! I can’t think of a better way to start the year. The two times I have fought in Maine, they were both FOTN, looking to Threepeat!”

 

Katie Baker, an 18-year-old from Gardiner, Maine, might be new to the NEF cage, but she is well-known within martial arts circles in the Pine Tree State. Baker began training in combat sports at the age of five. She won the Isshinryu World Karate Championship in 2009 och 2013, and has been a practitioner of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for seven years, regularly taking part in local tournaments. Tidigare i år, Baker began competing in amateur boxing. She currently trains with Young’s MMA in Bangor, Maine.

 

“I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to square off against Alex Walker at ‘NEF 27,'” sa Baker. “I have a high level of respect for Alex and her accomplishments. We’re not taking her lightly, and this is going to be a hell of a fight for my debut.”

Lewiston, Maine (Juni 18, 2016) - New England Fights (NEF) held the fight promotion’s latest event, “NEF 24: PROMISED LAND” på lördag natt på Androscoggin Bank Colisée i Lewiston, Maine. The event featured a full slate of professional boxing, amateur mixed-martial-arts (MMA) and professional MMA bouts. Nästan 2,000 packed the hallowed halls where Muhammad Ali once defended the heavyweight championship of the world against Sonny Liston. A special video tribute was presented honoring Ali prior to the beginning of the event.

 

For the second time since April, Brandon Berry (11-2-1) och James Lester(11-9-1) gick avståndet. Denna gång, unlike the last bout which was scored a draw, there was a winner. Lester is travelling back to his hometown of Detroit, Michigan the new Northeast Junior Welterweight Boxing Champion after winning a unanimous decision.

The two athletes battled back and forth in what can only be described as a “thriller” before a deafening crowd. Walker picked up the first win of her MMA career via an armbar submission in the third round.

BURGESS SIBLINGS READY TO BATTLE AT NEF 24

Lewiston, Maine (Juni 16, 2016) – As the only girl in a rough-and-tumble household with three older brothers in Mexico, Maine, Nicole Burgess learned how to fight for pride, for respect, sometimes even just for fun.

Sometimes such sibling rivalries are a challenge and burden. In Nicole’s case, emellertid, the arrangement furnished three built-in fans and best friends. And the closest bond of all naturally formed with the family’s youngest boy, Ryan, exactly one year and three days older than his sister.

“We were born pretty much back-to-back,” said Ryan Burgess, the pride becoming perceptible in his voice. “She’s always been tough. She’s really strong, just very athletic.”

Ryan, 22, has backed up his three high school championships as a wrestler with a pair of impressive mixed martial arts wins and the New England Fights amateur flyweight title.

Not to be outdone, multi-sport athlete Nicole, 21, finished fourth against primarily male competition in the state wrestling meet her sophomore, junior and senior years of high school. She has carved out a successful college field hockey career at Plymouth State University in New Hampshire.

Similarly accomplished, so close in age, rarely seen apart from one another in childhood, Ryan and Nicole’s athletic and life stories remain intertwined as young adults. Nicole will follow her brother into the NEF cage on Lördag, Juni 18, making her debut against Alex Walker (0-1) in a 115-pound women’s bout at “NEF 24: Promised Land.”

Anybody who grew up with a brother or a sister probably can imagine the good-natured ribbing that has taken place in training camp.

“He thinks I’m probably going to want to throw up,” Nicole said with a laugh.

Ryan, who will defend his strap on the same card against Dustin Veinott in a rematch of their split-decision title tilt from November 2015, knows there is no substitute for experience in the cage.

Although he was one of the most accomplished wrestlers in the history of his proud community, Ryan discovered in his first two cage confrontations that the variety of skills and size of the crowd at an MMA event demanded a quantum leap.

“You don’t know what to expect,"Sa han. “Before my debut, I had never been in a fight in my life. I thought I had, but I really hadn’t. I told myself ‘It’s just another wrestling match,’ but it’s not.”

Burgess stuck with what he knew best and ground out a unanimous decision over Justin Witham in June 2015.

He was introduced as an independent. His studies at Kennebec Valley Community College interfered with his training schedule, and Burgess’ coaches at Berserkers MMA didn’t want him representing the stable until he spent a full cycle under their watchful eyes.

The same night, he scouted out Veinott’s win over Norman “Sleepy” Fox and felt that he compared favorably to both fighters. He proved it in a championship setting five months later, albeit by an on-paper verdict that most cage-side observers felt could have gone either way.

After struggling to find an opponent worthy for the title shot in his weight class, Burgess was eager to extend Veinott (4-4) a second chance.

“I’ve already been in the cage 18 minuter, which is more fight time than a lot of guys who’ve been in four of five fights can say they’ve had,” Ryan said. “I’m completely confident now with the venue, fansen. The only person I hear now is my coach.”

He doesn’t even hear Nicole, although little sister was so enamored with the environment as a spectator that she couldn’t wait to resume her own combat sports career.

“I always watched UFC and stuff like that,” she said. “I actually started boxing before Ryan even got into it.”

Nicole donned the gloves in high school after giving up softball. In sixth grade, she made a similar transition from basketball to wrestling after waiting for a ride home, watching one of Ryan’s grueling mat practices and deciding that it looked fun.

“It was weird at first. I didn’t want to touch the guys,” Nicole said. “Then you heard things like, ‘Oh, it’s just a girl.’ Often times the guys would be stronger, but I had good technique.”

Walker brings experience, in the form of a loss to Randi Beth Boyington, and a tough stand-up game.

Speaking with the typical subtlety of a big brother, Ryan said that Nicole “should be OK as long as she doesn’t get kicked in the head.”

He quickly noted that she has the poise and talent to enjoy a successful debut if she can shake off the requisite whirlwind of emotions.

“As long as she can put together everything she’s learned. You have to overcome the nerves and the adrenaline dump,” Ryan said. “I remember that from my debut. It stunk.”

Nicole said she would like to end the fight early but predicted that it probably will go the distance.

Her brother aims for his first stoppage and forecasts that his improved striking will catch Veinott and everyone else by surprise.

“Up until now, I was focused on school, just graduating in May, and trying to get my career started,” Ryan said. “I was working 40 hours a week for free as an internship and working 20 more hours on the weekend trying to make ends meet. Dustin is going to see a completely different fighter this time.”

WOMEN CONTINUE TO EXCEL IN THE NEF MMA CAGE

Lewiston, Maine (Maj 17, 2016) – Just days removed from hosting a “Fight of the Year” candidate in Hyannis, Massachusetts between Kylie O’Hearn (1-0) och Angela Young (1-2), New England Fights (NEF) announced that the fight promotion’s cage would host another women’s amateur bout in Lewiston on June 18, 2016. Vid “NEF 24: PROMISED LAND,” NEF veteran Alex Walker (0-1) returns to the cage to meet newcomer Nicole Burgess (0-0) in an amateur strawweight bout.

 

Walker arrived in NEF in the spring of 2015 to face Randi Beth Boyington (1-3) in what was the cage debut for both women. Just like O’Hearn and Young did this past weekend in Hyannis, Walker and Boyington stole the show at “NEF 17.” They battled tooth-and-nail for three rounds before Boyington took a unanimous decision on the judges’ styrkort.

 

Walker is expected to give another “Fight of the Night” performance at “NEF 24” after an injury forced her out of competition for the past year. Those who know her, including her coach and teammates at Team Kaze in Lancaster, New Hampshire, say that Walker lives to fight. Being unable to climb into the cage for so long has made Walker more determined than ever.

 

“I can’t wait to fight in Maine again,” exclaimed Walker when reached for comment. “I had an injury last year, a month after my fight with Randi Beth. I am recovered and ready to go. It killed me to be on the sidelines. I feel like I earned some respect and some fans in Maine and I don’t want to lose that. I am sure this girl will be ready, but she won’t be ready for me! Between life’s hardships, surgery, förluster, and whatever else, I will not quit until I am successful! It would mean a lot to me to get my first W in front of the Maine fans on June 18th!”

 

Standing opposite Walker on Juni 18 will be Nicole Burgess. If the name sounds familiar to NEF fans, it should. She is the sister of NEF MMA fighter Ryan Burgess (2-0). Ryan is the reigning NEF MMA Amateur Flyweight Champion. The undefeated streak of the Burgess family in the NEF cage will be on her shoulders at “NEF 24.”

Lewiston, Maine (April 12, 2015) - New England Fights (NEF), USA: s nummer ett regionalt kamp främjande, held its seventeenth mixed-martial-arts event, “NEF XVII,” Lördag natt på Androscoggin Bank Colisee i Lewiston, Maine. A crowd of more than 2,000 was on hand to take in the action.

 

The co-main event of the evening saw Dennis “The hot” Olson (13-7) win a split decision victory over Jarod “Sista-minuten” Lawton (4-2). Jamie Harrison (6-1) stopped NEF MMA Lightweight Champion Bruce “Pretty Boy” Boyington (10-8) via first-round submission in a non-title bout in the card’s main event. In a women’s amateur bout earlier in the evening, Boyington hustru Randi Beth Knowles (1-0) besegrade Alex Walker (0-1) via unanimous decision in a thrilling back-and-forth contest.

 

Dessutom, NEF announced that the promotion’s next MMA event would take place at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee on Juni 13, 2015. The event is titled “NEF XVIII: Made in America” and it will feature the professional debut of Crowsneck Boutin (6-7 amatör) as he meets “Skroten Dog” Ryan Cowette (3-2) in a middleweight contest. It was further announced that Ryan Glover(1-0) och Billy Leahy (2-1) will fight for the first ever NEF MMA amateur title in the heavyweight division on Juni 13.

Lewiston, Maine (April 10, 2015) - New England Fights (NEF), USA: s nummer ett regionalt kamp främjande, held weigh-ins for its seventeenth mixed-martial-arts event, “NEF XVII,” earlier today at the Ramada Hotel and Conference Center in Lewiston, Maine. “NEF XVII” will take place at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee located at 190 Birch Street in Lewiston i morgon, Lördag, April 11 med dörrar som öppnas på 6:00 pm. The first fight is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm.

 

The professional NEF MMA Lightweight Title bout between Bruce Boyington (10-7) och Jamie Harrison (5-1) is now a non-title catchweight fight after Harrison was unable to make the lightweight limit of 155-pounds.

Lewiston, Maine (April 8, 2015) - New England Fights (NEF), USA: s nummer ett regionalt kamp främjande, today announced that the weigh-ins for its upcoming mixed-martial-arts (MMA) händelse, “NEF XVII,” will take place this Fredag, April 10 vid 2 pm EDT. The weigh-ins will originate from the Ramada Hotel and Conference Center located at 490 Pleasant Street in Lewiston, Maine. “NEF XVII” will take place at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee located at 190 Birch Street in Lewiston this Saturday, April 11 med dörrar som öppnas på 6:00 pm. The first fight is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm.

 

All of the stars for Lördag night’s event will be on hand at the weigh-in denna fredag, Inklusive: NEF MMA Lätt ChampionBruce “Pretty Boy” Boyington (10-7); Bellator veteran Dennis “The hot” Olson (12-7); Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Jarod “Sista-minuten” Lawton (4-1); undefeated professional women’s fighter Calie “Den Honey Badger” Cutler (3-0); and many others. The weigh-in is open to both the public and media free of charge. Lewiston, Maine (Mars 24, 2015) - New England Fights (NEF), USA: s nummer ett regionalt kamp främjande, återgår till Androscoggin Bank Colisee i Lewiston, Maine den April 11, 2015 med dess sjuttonde blandade-martial-arts (MMA) händelse. NEF släppte fulla kampen kort för händelsen förra veckan. Tidigare idag, företaget meddelat tillägget av en amatör catchweight bout till kampen kortet. CJ Ewer (3-1) kommer att möta Connor “Endast knoge” Barry (4-1) vid ett slagsmål vikt av 165-pounds.

 

Ewer, ledamot i Youngs MMA i Bangor, Maine, tog NEF MMA amatör leden med storm under sommaren 2013. I fråga om bara tio veckor, Ewer uppvisat tre segrar, varav den sista var över veteranen Crowsneck Boutin (6-7). Hans strimma fördes till ett stopp av tuffa Wayne Ahlquist (1-1) senare samma höst. Ewer skulle ta mer än ett år ledigt för att tjäna sitt land i United States Air Force säkerhetsstyrkor. Connor Barry är en oberoende fighter närvarande bas i Lowell, Massachusetts. Barry har blivit känd som en “behandlare” i regionen, ha besegrat tre av sina motståndare via teknisk knockout (VEM) och en via submission. Hans enda förlust hittills kom med domarens beslut. Lewiston, Maine (Mars 18, 2015) - New England Fights (NEF), USA: s nummer ett regionalt kamp främjande, återgår till Androscoggin Bank Colisée i Lewiston, Maine den April 11, 2015 med dess sjuttonde blandade-martial-arts (MMA) händelse. “Jag kan inte minnas att ha denna typ av svar på en kamp kort innan,” sade NEF delägare och promotorn Nick DiSalvo. “Det har varit så mycket spänning över varje kamp som vi har meddelat. Vi sålde slut på alla buren sidan biljetter fyra veckor före evenemanget, och den allmänna antagning är mycket nära att bli borta. Vi har aldrig sett det hända så tidigt innan. Den säger verkligen något om kvaliteten på produkten vi sätter på här i Lewiston. Det är ingen tvekan om NEF är den hetaste biljetten i stan.”

 

I huvud händelse av kvällen, Bruce “Pretty Boy” Boyington(10-7) försvarar NEF MMA Lätt titel mot nummer ett utmanare Jamie Harrison (5-1). Matchen gjordes i timmarna efter “NEF XV” i november förra året då Boyington framgångsrikt försvarat titeln mot Jesse Erickson (3-4) och Harrison manhandled Tollison Lewis (0-4) på väg till en snabb underkastelse seger. Kampen blir Boyington andra försvar av titeln sedan vinna den september förra.

 

Co-main event av kvällen kommer att innehålla ett mycket väntat weltervikt bout mellan Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) svart bälte Jarod “Sista-minuten” Lawton (4-1) och Bellator veteran Dennis “The hot” Olson (12-7).
