JOHN RAIO THRIVING IN RETIREMENT WITH A FIRST CLASS TEAM

Lewiston, Majno (Septembro 3, 2015) ?? Novaj Angliaj Bataloj (NEF), Ameriko’s nombro-unu regiona batala #anta?enigo, will hold its nineteenth mixed-martial-arts (MMA) Evento, “NEF jarcento,” Sabate, Septembro 12, 2015 ĉe la Androscoggin Banko Colisée en Lewiston, Majno. The fight card will feature three members of First Class MMA in action that night. Hannah Sparrell (0-0), Rafael Velado (0-0) Kaj Nick Shea (1-0) from the Brunswick, Maine-based gym. Ĵus, First Class MMA founder and head coach John “Unua Klaso” Raio joined NEF co-owner and matchmaker Matt Peterson as the guest on the NEF Podcast.

This past June, 38-year-old Raio retired after competing in the NEF cage for some three-and-a-half years. Raio now concentrates on training the members of his First Class MMA gym, including preparing Sparrell, Velado and Shea for their upcoming bouts.

I definitely can put a lot more time into my fighters as well as my family,” Dirita Raio. “La batalantoj, I can put a lot more time into them because it’s not all about me. When you’re fighting, when you’re training for a fight, no matter how much you try to focus on Nick Shea or Nick Gully or Hannah Sparrell or Rafael or any of our fighters, you can’t really put 100% effort into a fighter when you really focus on your own fight. It’s tough splitting between their fight and your fight and your job, your family and your kids.

Since the birth of NEF in early 2012, and the subsequent explosion of the sport’s popularity in the state, many new gyms have sprung up in recent years, including First Class MMA. Raio enjoys, more than anything else, the tight-knit, family-like atmosphere that has developed at the facility since he opened the gym.

The biggest thing I like about our gym, I enjoy going and being a part of, is there’s a very humble group of students and instructors,” noted Raio. “Everyone who teaches in there is about the fighters. It’s about the students. They’re not about themselves. They’re more about trying to help people get better. Whether they’re a fighter or a teacher, we have a few teachers who go there and we have several women students and several children and adults. It’s a real good mix and very much a family atmosphere. We rarely lose a student.

La “Unua Klaso” moniker is not merely a nickname given to Raio because of his past job with the postal service. Early on in his MMA career, Raio earned the reputation of a respectful, classy, Profesia, likeable individual, hence the pun in his nickname. Those same qualities have carried over to the students of First Class MMA.

I try to treat everybody equally,” Dirita Raio. “I try to treat everyone respectfully. I think a lot of those guys (at the gym), in turn, treat each other respectfully. If I ever have an issue with a student, if they’re not acting respectful to the instructors or the other students, I’ll pull them aside and if they have to leave then they have to leave. That’s part of lifeOur gym attracts, for some reason, people who are just nice people.

With more and more new students coming through his gym’s door, Raio has definitely kept busy since his retirement from active competition. Like a proud father, Raio has a real passion for the success of his students. The ultimate reward for him is seeing his protégées do well in the cage.

After the last show (NEFa XVIII), when I saw Nick (Gulliver, 1-0) have his arm raised and Rob (Robinson, 1-0), I was so happy for those guys,” recalled Raio. “I’m so happy to see these two guys win. As much as I didn’t come away with a win against Bruce (Boyington, 10-8), I said ‘if we go 2-1, I’d rather be the one that didn’t pull off the victory.I’ve never been as happy for my own win than I was for Nick and Rob that night.

Khan-Quaye Title Fight Support For Roy Jones Jr-Tony Moran September 12th in Liverpool

Khan-Quaye Title Fight Support For Roy Jones Jr-Tony Moran September 12Th En Liverpool

Bradford’s Tasif Khan is just over a week away from the biggest fight of his career to date, when he faces two time Commonwealth title challenger, Ghana’s Isaac Quaye, for the World Boxing Federation (WBF) International Super Flyweight Championship, on the Stephen Vaughan promoted LEGEND event, at the Aintree Equestrian Centre on Saturday 12ThSeptembro, which is headlined by Roy Jones Jr’s first ever UK fight, against Tony Moran.

Khan, who only returned to the fray, following a twenty five month sabbatical from the sport, in January this year more than made up for his time out of the ring with three top class wins.

In the first of these bouts Khan disposed of Richard Voros in just over a minute of the first round, he then followed that with an almost identical time victory over Ladislav Miko in March, which lined him up for a shot at the International Masters title in May, against Mikheil Soloninkini, which Khan secured with an excellent unanimous points victory.

To describe Khan’s excitement about getting this opportunity to fight for the WBF title so soon after his return is an understatement, but when compared to his feelings about fighting for the title on the undercard of Roy Jones Jr versus Tony Moran made that pale in comparison, as he made clear when he spoke about the upcoming event.

“When I first got told I’ll be fighting on the Roy Jones bill, it was absolutely amazing, yeah amazing to fighting on the same show as Roy Jones.

I grew up watching him fight, in my eyes he’s one of the greatest fighters ever, not because of the accolade of titles that he’s won, the number of belts he’s won, from Middleweight upwards, but it’s unheard of to say to anyone these days that a middleweight is going to go all the way up to Heavyweight and win a World title and in those days the best fought the best, Roy Jones for me is one of the all time best fighters and to be on the same bill as him is all credit to the MBC (Malta Komisaro pri Boksado), Stephen Vaughan and Francis warren and I can’t thank them and everyone involved in this massive event enough and obviously for letting me fight on the event.”

Khan then went on talk about his opponent on September 12Th – Isaac Quaye

“I’ve got full respect for Isaac Quaye, he’s got a good record, he’s been in with the best and he’s a tough Ghanaian as we know, so come September 12Th we will be ready for him.

I can’t believe this, it’s been a short journey, but a sweet journey, the only difficult time I’ve had was the time away from the ring, I had a gap of about three years but obviously the MBC, all those involved with the MBC and the team around me have pulled together and gave me these opportunities.

My last fight gave me the opportunity to get my first belt (International Masters) of my career, so onwards and upwards.

I don’t look past any opponent and always train accordingly, we know Isaac Quaye is a tough opponent and in terms of World ranking he’s a lot higher than me, so it’s a win, win situation for me because I’ll prepare, like every fight, as if I’m the underdog, no doubt he’ll be coming in as the favourite and look to upset me and the crowd.

I have full respect for him outside the ring, but inside the ring I have no mercy for anyone, I want to go in their and cause damage as I want to win, so let’s get it on.”

Biletoj, priced £40, £60, £100 and VIP Ringside £150 for the Stephen Vaughan Promoted Roy Jones Jr. versus Tony Moran MBC International Cruiserweight Championship headed LEGEND event at the Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool on Saturday September 12Th 2015 are available now, buy on line at Www.tkoboxoffice.com Kaj www.vaughanboxing.tv Aŭ voko 0333 200 0905.

BROOKLYN BRAWL RECAP: BOXING STANDS OUT AMONG THE ATTRACTIONS IN CONEY ISLAND

Salita Promotions succeeds with world-class show which ran live on ESPN3.
BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Sept. 2, 2015)Boxing came back to Coney Island last Tuesday night, and by all accounts, it was a smashing success.
Boxing champion-turned-promoter Dmitriy Salita put together a 10-bout Brooklyn Brawl card, and fans assembled at the Brooklyn CyclonesMCU Park were blown away by the shocker ending to the main event.
Veteran Cornelius “Fulmo” Lock of Flatbush, Brooklyn, found a home for a nasty left hand, and finished off favorite Alex Miskirtchian in round three of their scheduled ten. Pro boxing came to Coney Island for the first time in 14 Jaroj, and didn’t disappoint with a win for the local fighter, who trains at the famed Gleason’s Gym in the County of Kings.
Other winners included Junior Wright, the cruiserweight contender from Chicago aiming at another world title shot; Dimash Niyazov, the NYPD officer moonlighting as a pro hitter; Trigger” Treysean Wiggins, the fighting pride of Newburgh, N.Y., opening eyes as a solid prospect to watch.
