Johannesburg, October 27 – Former world champion Ruslan Provodnikov (24-4, 17 KOs) says he will be in great shape for next weekend’s showdown with Jesus Alvarez Rodriguez (13-0, 10 KOs) nyob rau hauv Monte Carlo as he was in training for a fight in New York at the same time.

Those plans changed, though, because “six or seven opponents changed their mind about fighting me”. They include Amir Khan and Shawn Porter.

The Russian’s in-your-face style makes him a tough fight for anyone and it’s little surprise that many big names have baulked at the chance to challenge him.

“It’s frustrating, but we will persevere,” he said from his base in Indio, California where he is working with new trainer Joel Diaz, former trainer of Provodnikov rival Timothy Bradley.

Asked what sort of fight Monte Carlo fans can expect next weekend, the Banner Promotions boxer unsurprisingly pointed to his reputation saying he had been in two fights of the year candidates, plus the fight of the year with Bradley in 2013.

“Right now, the goal is to become world champion again. Being in America has made me a better fighter,” said the 31-year-old who grew up admiring Mike Tyson. “If you are a star in the USA then you are a star all over the world. Plus the competition level in the US is at its highest.”

Having grown up in western Siberia, he attributes the emergence of Eastern Bloc fighters like himself, Gennady Golovkin, Artur Beterbiev and so many others to the challenges thrown down by Soviet history.

“There have been some tough times that really made people very hard-working and persistent in whatever they do,” said the man they call the “Siberian Rocky”.

Provodnikov is looking forward to following in the footsteps of Golovkin, who has twice fought in the principality to much acclaim.

“I’ve never been there, but I’ve heard it’s one of the most beautiful places in the world. I know Gennady enjoyed it every time. I can’t wait to see how many fans I have over there.”

As ever, the Russian expects to put on a good show. “I’ve seen Rodriguez’s fights. He is a very strong fighter, and unbeaten. This will be a brawl.”

His fans, of course, wouldn’t want it any other way.

Undefeated with all but two victories coming by knockout, the 23-year-old Plant returns to the ring fresh off of a victory in September over Jamar Freeman. Amateur boxers registering for 130th annual USA Boxing New England Championships

MEDF0RD, Pawg. (October 27 2015) – More than 125 amateur boxers – ranging from open class to novice, masters and Junior Olympians – have already registered to compete in the upcoming 130th annual USA Boxing New England Championships which will be hosted by Quietman Sports Gym at two Massachusetts venues.
Quietman Sports Gym in Medford (MA) is owned and operated by two-time world heavyweight boxing champion John “The Quietman” Ruiz, the first and only world heavyweight champion of Hispanic heritage.
The quarterfinals will be held Hnub vas xaum, November 7, followed by the following Hnub Saturday (Nov. 14) semifinals, both at Chelsea High School. Semifinal winners will qualify for the championship finals scheduled, Hnub vas xaum, Nov. 28 at Plymouth Memorial Hall. Winners in each weight class will advance to the USA National Championships. Tus 23 year-old LaManna turned professional in 2011 and won his first sixteen bouts that were highlighted by wins over Ashandi Gibbs & Jamaal Davis.

Since suffering his only loss, LaManna has won two straight which includes a 6-round unanimous decision over rugged Ayi Bruce on September 26th in Beach Haven, New Jersey.
That loss, which was a nationally televised fight with Antoine Douglas, gave LaManna the realization that he should move down in weight and the former Middleweight contender will now campaign as a Welterweight.
LaManna, who has taken more control of his career with his formation of Rising Star Promotions, has been very active as this will be his 3rd fight in 4 months.
Also seeing action in a six round bout will be Welterweight Anthony “Juice” Young.
Tus 27 year-old native of Atlantic City has a record of 11-1 with five knockouts, will be making his 5th appearance in his hometown. He is coming off a 6-round unanimous decision over Jonathan Garcia on August 15th in Atlantic City.

Contender Potapov Part of Eastern European Talent Surge this Thursday night in Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Oct. 26, 2015) – Rau Hnub plaub, Oct. 29, blue-chip contender Nikolay Potapov, ranked No. 9 in the world among bantamweight, will show off his considerable skills in the borough of kings.
His impressive ranking comes after just 13 professional fights, all wins.
Promoter Dmitriy Salita is putting the finishing touches on a rock-solid fight card, which will unfold at the Aviator complex in south Brooklyn.
“Nikolay is a top contender and I look forward to his fight on the Brooklyn Brawl series as his introduction to American fight fans,” said the promoter, who has been instrumental in fanning the flames of the sweet science in NYC for the past several years. “He has all the skills to compete with the best in the world.”
Potapov hails from Russia, and is part of a new wave of Eastern European battlers who are taking control of the sport, cut from the cloth of the Gennady Golovkins and Sergey Kovalevs.
He puts his 13-0 (6 Kos) record on the line against a sturdy Mexican, Pedro Melo, a veteran of 25 pro fights in a bout scheduled for 10-rounds.
Like many Russian fighters, Potapov is a patient predator, likes to come forward, be first, has solid basics, puts punches together well, knows the value of a focused body attack, picks his spots smartly…basically, he will be someone bantamweight aces will need to contend with, soon. Many attending the show will recall the thrilling main event at the last Salita card, in Coney Island, when Cornelius Lock upset Alex Miskirtchian. DENVER – October 26, 2015 – Boxing fans across the country will have a ringside seat for a highly-anticipated clash of two titans when Fathom Events, Roc Nation Sports, Golden tub Promotions, Miguel Cotto Promotions and Canelo Promotions present Miguel Cotto vs. Canelo Alvarez, the battle between Puerto Rico’s most decorated fighter Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) and Mexican superstar Canelo (45-1-1, 32 KOs) live in select theaters nationwide on Hnub vas xaum, November 21 tom 9:00 p.m. LI/ 8:00 p.m. I / 7:00 p.m. MT / 6:00 p.m. PT.

 

The highly-anticipated 12-round fight will be broadcast live to select theaters across the U.S., from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. Miguel Cotto, reigning WBC, Ntiv nplhaib Magazine and Lineal Middleweight World Champion, will go head-to-head with Canelo Alvarez, former WBC and WBA Super Welterweight World Champion, in what is shaping up to be 2015’s most exciting fight and the biggest battle in the history of the famed Puerto Rico vs. Mexico rivalry.

Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) is the first native of Puerto Rico to become a world champion in four different weight classes and is hailed as a national hero and the successor of Felix “Tito” Trinidad as the island’s most notable boxer. During his extraordinary career, Cotto represented Puerto Rico in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, and is the former WBO Junior Welterweight World Champion, the former WBA Welterweight World Champion, the former WBO Welterweight World Champion and former WBA Super Welterweight World Champion. Cotto now looks to further his illustrious resume with a win over Canelo.
