FINALLY! LONG-AWAITED BATTLE FOR BANGOR TO TAKE PLACE AT NEF 21

Lewiston, Maine (Hlis ntuj nqeg 8, 2015) – New England Fights (NEF), America’s number-one regional fight promotion, will hold its next event, “NEF 21: THE IMMORTALS” rau Hnub vas xaum, Lub ob hlis ntuj 6, 2016 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston, Maine. The fight card is scheduled to feature both mixed-martial-arts (MMA) and professional boxing bouts. Earlier today, NEF announced the main event of the MMA portion of the fight card. BrucePretty BoyBoyington (12-8) will defend the NEF MMA Professional Lightweight Championship against the challenge of number-one contender Jon Lemke (5-3). Both Boyington and Lemke are veterans of the United States Marine Corps (USMC).

Boyington is riding high on a three-fight win streak. Earlier this fall, he made his debut on the national stage, defeating Rodrigo Almeida (13-3) on a World Series of Fighting (WSOF) card in Connecticut. Boyington followed up that win with a decisive third-round TKO victory over Jimmy Davidson (7-2) last month atNEF XXin a successful defense of his title. A product of Young’s MMA, and the head of Boyington’s Taekwondo Academy, both located in Bangor, Maine, Boyington has been on an unstoppable tear since losing a non-title fight to Jamie Harrison (6-1) early in 2015. He has won six of his last seven in the MMA cage, and holds another victory in the NEF boxing ring during the course of that run.

I wouldn’t want to be Jon Lemke going into that cage with me right about now, that’s what I’m thinking, if I’m being honest,” said Boyington. “I don’t really understand why he would want a fight with me right now, and I do believe he will show up and give his best effort, but I wouldn’t want to fight me right now. I’m dangerous, and my confidence is through the roof and when it’s like this, it is going to take a world-class athlete to stop me, and my focus this whole camp will be on remaining humble and focused. When February 6th comes, I will be the most dangerous Bruce Boyington that has ever stepped foot in the cage, and I know if I want to be in there right now, I’m really going to be hungry by then.

The bout is one that Maine fight fans have waited a long time to see. Boyington and Lemke have stood atop the NEF lightweight division together for several years now, their careers paralleling one another. With Lemke competing out of Marcus DavisTeam Irish in nearby Brewer, Maine, the cross-town rival of Young’s MMA, Boyington and Lemke seemed like natural rivals. But they often passed like ships in the night, and the stars never aligned for an encounter between the two. That was untilNEF XXlast month when, just moments before Boyington took to the cage against Davidson, Lemke vanquished Matt Denning (2-1) in that evening’s co-main event. It was an impressive performance that saw Lemke overwhelm a game Denning as the first round went on. With both Lemke and Boyington scheduled to appear on the February card, and neither having an opponent signed, the time was ripe for theBattle for Bangor,” as fans have dubbed it, to finally take place.

I am so incredibly grateful and excited to be fighting for NEF once again and especially an opportunity to fight for the title,” said Lemke. “Those who know my story know what a long road this has been for me, which makes it all the more special. Bruce is the man and has done a phenomenal job promoting himself as champion, and in the process brought a lot of attention to the rest of the MMA community in the area. He has a couple of titles with different promotions and had fights on the national stage. He presents a unique and explosive set of challenges that I very much look forward to rising up and meeting that challenge head on. This is going to be a great fight that fans are not going to want to miss, so get your tickets and come on down.

I don’t know if there’s any single fight fans ask us to see more than this one,” exclaimed NEF co-owner and promoter Nick DiSalvo. “It seems like at least a few times a week we’re getting messages asking ‘when are we going to see the Battle for Bangor between Lemke and Boyington?’ Well, it’s happening onLub ob hlis ntuj 6 at ‘NEF 21,and everyone within our organization is just as excited as the fans to see it!”

The back story to this bout is incredible,” stated NEF co-owner and matchmaker Matt Peterson. “Nothing is manufacturedit’s completely authentic and gut wrenching. This fight has been a long time coming, and I have a feeling that the lead-in to February 6th will be unlike anything we’ve ever witnessed in the countdown to a showdown of this magnitude where so much more than just bragging rights are on the line.

“BRONCO” BILLY WRIGHT: “No one can deny that I’ve earned the right to fight Deontay Wilder for his WBC title

LAS VEGAS (Hlis ntuj nqeg 7, 2015)WBC Latino and FECARBOX heavyweight champion, Bronco Billy Wright (49-4, 38 KOs), is willing and able to step up and challenge Deontay Wilder (35-0, 34 KOs) for his world title. Currently rated #20 by the WBC, Bronco Billy Wright is currently riding a 20-fight winning streak with 17 of those victories coming by way of knockout.
If Wilder, who is currently looking for an opponent for his scheduled Lub ib hlis ntuj 16, 2016date, were to take this fight, he would be facing a game opponent in Wright, who hasn’t lost a fight since 1998. Nrog 31 first round knockouts to his credit, Billy feels he has what it takes to dethrone Wilder.
No one can deny that I’ve earned the right to fight Deontay Wilder for his WBC title,” hais Bronco Billy Wright. “I’ve been ranked in the top 20 with the WBC for the last three years. This is the American Dream for a fighter like myself who’s been waiting patiently to get an opportunity to fight for a world championship. I’ve paid my dues and I’m ready to take on this challenge.
There is no reason why this fight shouldn’t happen,” said Wright’s agent Ivaylo Gotzev. “From the day that Billy made his comeback till now, he’s made a believer out of me with everything that he’s accomplished. This is America where everyone should have an opportunity to fulfill their dreams, that’s what makes this country great. The man is active having just fought last month. Age should not be a factor. If George Foreman and Bernard Hopkins can fight at the championship level in their latter years, then the networks should not have a double standard when it comes to Bronco Billy. He wants to raise the bar and become the oldest heavyweight champ in boxing history. He currently holds two WBC belts which makes him more than qualified. There should be no discrimination in this matter. Billy is ready to fight Wilder now!”

CHAMPIONSQUOTES OF NOTE
2015 WMMAA Bantamweight Champion Bakhachali Bakhachali:
It was a wonderful experience. You know it was a long road. I’m so glad it’s over and I was successful in reaching all the goals I had set. The final fight was very hard, my opponent was a serious test for me. He’s physically strong and determined. But thanks God I got the victory.
The next step is of course the Russian MMA SuperCup. I hope God will help me win it.
I’d like to say thank you to my coaches: Rasul Magomed-Aliev, Abdulla Gaidarbekov. Thanks to Shamil Alibatyrov who was cornering me throughout the whole championship and helped me a lot.

2015 WMMAA Featherweight Champion Magomed Yunusilau:
Extreme happiness. First of all, I was not sure I would be able to participate because of injuries, but my coaches, friends and family helped me gather physically and mentally. I flew to Prague and got the best possible result.
I had four fights. The first one (1/8) went the distance. My opponent, from Colombia, was really determined, he would not give up. It was a hard-fought battle. In my other fights I finished all three opponents.
First, I need to heal my injuries; it’s revalidation time. I’ll take a break for the first post-World Championship week and then I’ll focus on my health. I have issues with my back and one knee. And then, God bless, I’ll get back in business within 2-3 months. I intend to transfer to professional MMA competition. We have great coaches and the team that are highly qualified and able to facilitate in my transition. I’m sure I’ll be OK.

2015 WMMAA Lightweight Champion Gadzhi Rabadanov:
I’m extremely happy. It’s such a nice feeling to make your friends and family happy. I’m really grateful for all support I got from them.
I had four fights in total and I finished all of my opponents. I can’t say which one was harder, everyone in front of me was quite good in his own right.
If I look back, I’ve had five full training camps this year. Now, it’s time for a break from competition. I need to heal my wounds, rest and then return as a different fighter. There is enough room for improvement. I know I had one more fight planned at the Russian MMA SuperCup in December but I’ll have to cancel it because of my knee injury. Moreover it’s rather hard to make weight twice within a 10-day frame. It would be to the detriment of my health under these circumstances. Sorry, everyone who was hoping to watch me fight in Chelyabinsk (Zog ntawm Guj kuj –wmmaa.org) come December 5.

2015 WMMAA Welterweight Champion Gadzhimurad Khiramagomedov:
I can’t describe my feelings right now. It has been a long road. Two years ago, me and my brother, (Gamzat Khiramagomedovwmmaa.org) set our sights on the World Championship. And here we areboth champions. I’m so happy.
I really need to repair my body before planning anything else. My hand and foot are broken. One ligament is torn on my left leg. I need time to heal and then we’ll see.
2015 WMMAA Middleweight Champion Gamzat Khiramagomedov:
This experience is the best possible. After all work that I had done it’s time to catch a breath for a little while. Still, I’m not going to relax on my laurels. I have a fight scheduled at the SuperCup against Gamazan Gamzatov. After that fight I’ll be able to rest normally.
At the World Championship I had four bouts. Assessing my opponents, I can say they were all good fighters. The hardest battle I had was against a warrior from Georgia. He would not give up; extremely powerful and good wrestler. I injured my left arm that’s why I couldn’t show my best in the finals. However, I’m so happy I made my people smile, especially my brother, Gadzhimurad, who puts a lot of effort into helping me. He’s always happier than me when I win. He’s my biggest fan.

2015 WMMA Light Heavyweight Champion Magomed Ankalaev:
My feelings are the best possible. Gold in this amateur MMA World Championship had been my target for a long time.
I had five fights and the final one was the most difficult for me. I felt huge responsibility because it was up to me whether or not the Russian flag would be flying that high. Thank God, I was able to achieve that.
I plan to take part in the Russian MMA SuperCup. After that, I’ll take a rest that, I believe, I’ll have fully deserved.

2015 WMMA Heavyweight Champion Zaur Gadzhibabaev:
A lot was at stake in the finals since my opponent, Mokhmad Sulimanov, wanted to avenge his loss from last year’s WMMAA World Championship. I’m glad I prevailed again.
I’m honored to be the first two-time WMMAA champion. The competitors in my division were outstanding this year. I trained very hard to give my best and I’m very happy with my performances during the tournament.

Once on the Ropes, Boxing Thrives in New York Thanks to Local Fighters

The lifeblood of the city’s boxing scene is strong in gyms and small venues throughout the city, even if you can’t find it at Madison Square Garden

By
Alex Raskin
Will Rosinsky is a 30-year-old Queens native who works as a firefighter in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. A longtime acquaintance of his, Joe Smith Jr., is a 26-year-old construction worker from Long Island and a member of the Local 66 Laborers Union.
Rau hnub Saturday hmo ntuj, the two are going to Barclays Center in Brooklyn for a night of boxing matches headlined by a middleweight championship bout. But they won’t be sitting in the stands. Rosinsky and Smith will be there to fight each other on an undercard to the title match between Brooklynites Peter Quillin (32-0-1) and WBA middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (30-1).
We know each other,” Rosinsky (19-2) said of Smith, his former sparring partner. “There’s nothing different that he’s gonna do that I haven’t seen him do already.
For his part, Smith (19-1) even took some vacation time from his day job in order to prepare for Hnub Saturday light-heavyweight bout. “I’m sure a lot of people can’t do that,” Nws hais, “but I’m lucky and I was able to take off and still pay my bills on time.

Mixed martial arts may be on the rise, but the boxing scene in New York City has never been stronger-as shown by a recent night of mid-level fights in Marine Park, Brooklyn.

Don’t be fooled by theirrealjobs, respectable as they may be. Rosinsky and Smith, both Golden Gloves champions, were boxing long before they entered the traditional workforce. They are part of New York’s growing pugilistic middle class, walking symbols of the sport’s renaissance in the city.
There was a time when New York was synonymous with boxing. Madison Square Garden averaged 28 fight cards a year between 1940 thiab 1950, when the arena was located on Eighth Avenue between 49th and 50th streets. The current Garden hosted only two cards in 2015, including Gennady Golovkin’s sold-out title defense against David Lemieux on Oct. 17. It appeared that boxing was disappearing from the city’s sports scene.
We didn’t have a whole lot going on in the first part of the new century,” explained Bruce Silverglade, owner of Brooklyn’s famous Gleason’s Gym.
The fights left New York,” Nws hais. “Taxes are a big part of that, but just the cost of doing a showNew York is an expensive town. You have to house the fighters. You have to give them a per diem. If you take the same big fight and put it in Las Vegas, or a place where there’s a casino that supports boxing, they will give you a site fee for coming.
‘As far as the popularity of boxing in the city of New York, it couldn’t be better, as far as I’m concerned.’ -Bruce Silverglade, owner of Gleason’s Gym
The taxes and costs remain, but thanks to newer venues, midlevel purses, and localized fight cards, they aren’t as prohibitive. Now local boxers have a hometown advantage in a city that is, once again, nurturing the sport at all levels.
As Silverglade put it, “[boxing is] starting to come back.
The Barclays Center card Rau hnub Saturday reads like a local white pages. Heather Hardy, who works as a trainer at Gleason’s and boasts a 14-0 professional record, is making her fifth appearance at the arena. “I sell tickets to my clients, co-workers, their clients. I’m like everybody’s kid sister,” said the 33-year-old mother and Brooklyn native.
Also appearing are rising light-heavyweight contender and Staten Island native Marcus Browne (16-0) and Huntington, N.Y., native Chris Algieri (20-2), ib welterweight. As for the main event, Jacobs is a product of East New York’s Starrett City Boxing Club, and Quillin also lives in the borough.
It will be the 28th and final fight card of the year in New York, which matches last year’s total, according to the New York State Athletic Commission. As recently as 2009, only 14 boxing cards were commissioned within the city limits.
Now the events are reflective of the city itself.
The great thing about New York is that no matter where in the world you hail from, you will always find a ‘home crowdin New York due to its inherent diversity,” explained Tom Hoover, chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission.
Such is the case for rising prospects and recent immigrants Bakhtiyar Eyubov (9-0) and three-time Georgian national champion Giorgi Gelashvili (3-0), both of whom won fights at the Oct. 29 “Brooklyn Brawl” showcase at the Aviator Sports and Events Center in Marine Park.
Thanks in large part to the Ukrainian-born, Brooklyn-raised boxer and promoter Dmitriy Salita, the two have found a home gym, Brooklyn’s Fight Factory, and an opportunity to box in front of their growing number of fans, many of whom also hail from former Soviet Republics.
Another Starrett City product, Salita (35-2-1) climbed the ranks as a welterweight before losing to Amir Khan in 2013. He continued boxing, but after reading a book about Israel’s economy calledStart-Up Nation,” Salita decided to try his hand at promoting.
I looked around the boxing world in New York City,” hais Salita, an Orthodox Jew with an orthodox fighting stance. “I made a couple of phone calls. It all came together rather quickly. Six, maybe seven weeks later, I had my first show on Sept. 1, 2010. Several good fighters fought.
Salita’s Star of David Promotions eventually launched the Brooklyn Brawl series, which stages fights at midsize venues like Coney Island’s MCU Park, the Paramount Theatre, and the Aviator Center.
Since the fights are typically shown on the MSG Network or online at ESPN3, Salita’s fighters are gaining needed exposure. Another of his fighters, lifelong friend and heavyweight contender Jarrell “Me nyuam loj” Miller, delivered an impressive performance on Showtime in October, dropping Akhror Muralimov in three rounds to improve to 16-0-1.
I think there’s a bigger middle class in boxing than there was before,” hais Salita.
There’s more people now that make $50,000 mus $100,000 a year.
That middle class might not exist were it not for the sport’s accessibility. Nowadays, everyone is stepping into the ring.
Today I am around 80% business people-men, women, children,” said Silverglade, whose customers range in age from 6 mus 87. He noted that when Gleason’s was located in Manhattan, “it was 100% boxers-amateurs and pros. We actually had two businessmen. No kids, no women.
Now, as in many gyms in the area, women and children make up a large portion of Silverglade’s business. “As far as the popularity of boxing in the city of New York, it couldn’t be better, as far as I’m concerned,” Nws hais. “I could not be in business today, I could not afford the insurance or the rent otherwise.
