West Coast Fighting in Sacramento this Saturday
SACRAMENTO, Californie. - Ce samedi mixed martial arts fans will pour into the McClellan Conference Center in Sacramento for West Coast Fighting Championship 16.
The 13-bout card features a main event that’s been dubbed “King of Sacramento” pitting local favorites Max Griffin and David Mitchell.
“It wasn’t easy, but we were able to put it together,” West Coast Fighting Championship matchmaker Jeremy Luchau said. “There was a lot that had to be negotiated between Max and David, but ultimately I feel like both guys were able to concede in some areas to make the fight happen.”
The showdown will take place at a catch weight of 175 pounds and although a non-title affair will be contested with a possible five rounds.
Griffon (11-2) is the current West Coast Fighting 170-pound champ and former Tachi Palace Fights welterweight kingpin. En attendant, Mitchell (19-5) has held titles for the promotion at middleweight and heavyweight.
“I’m not sure there’s been a more significant fight booked in that region in a long time,” said Luchau, who has served as the West Coast Fighting matchmaker since early 2015. “I really believe that with a victory, one of these guys should get the call.”
En cas de co-principal, an equally impressive tilt takes place pitting Sacramento’s Josh Emmett against Sothern California’s Christos Giagos.
“Emmett has been the man in the region for a long, longtemps,” Luchau said of the 8-0 Team Alpha Male product. “He has pretty much run the course of competition in the region, defeated all comers and is now looking to make that jump to the next level.”
He will have to do so against the well-versed Giagos (11-4), who held titles at both Tachi Palace Fights and Resurrection Fighting Alliance, before being cut from the Ultimate Fighting Championship after going 1-2.
“Giagos is a game opponent and was just the what the Emmett camp was looking for to give them that boost to the next level,» A déclaré Lüchau. “It’s another fight where I feel like the UFC could be the next step for either guy.”
A pair of local heavyweights will vie for the newly vacant strap, as Josh Appelt (11-5) takes on Roy Boughton (12-6).
A pair of UFC vets will also be featured on the undercard, as Turlock welterweight and UFC vet Lewis Gonzalez (10-2) fights Ty Freeman (9-4) et percutant, UFC vet Scott Smith (18-10) clashes with Bellator vet Baesman (17-8).

Kongo will be making his eighth appearance under the Bellator MMA banner, looking to add to his impressive promotional mark of 5-2. The Paris native has fought a who’s who in the mixed martial arts landscape, with notable wins against Mirko Cro Cop, Pat Barry, Matt Mitrione, and Alexander Volkov already on his record. In his last outing – which just so happened to be inside the Kansas Star Arena — Kongo impressively defeated Volkov via unanimous decision.
After nearly two years out of action, Queiroz returned to the Bellator MMA cage against Ewerton Teixeira à "Bellator 139: Kongo vs. Volkov," defeating his Brazilian opponent via second round arm-triangle choke. “Spartan” hopes to plant the seeds for a busy 2016 with the matchup against Kongo, where a win can undoubtedly place him in the midst of the heavyweight title picture.
Hailing from Ukraine, Ovchynnikova will enter the fray fresh off a new exclusive, multi-fight contract with Bellator MMA. “Hunter” has previously fought the likes of Joanne Calderwood and at only 28-years-old has already competed professionally since 2006. Maintenant, Ovchynnikova looks to solidify herself as a top contender in the budding women’s flyweight division on Février 26 against a tough foe in Ruth.
“Becky” Ruth was undefeated in 2015, winning all three of her matchups by echnical knockout under the Shamrock Fighting Championships banner. The lone loss on the Missouri native’s record came against Resurrection Fighting Alliance champion Jocelyn Jones-Lybarger, via controversial split decision.
The “Bellator 150: Galvao vs.. Dantas 2 " undercard has also nearly been completed, with the announcement of eight pairings which are listed below. An undefeated Bellator MMA prospect will be in action during the preliminary portion of the event, quand Gaston Reyno (5-0) returns to the cage with the intent of keeping his unblemished record intact.

An excellent boxer-puncher and tactician that likes to counter, Lopez won his ShoBox debut in his outing before last with a close, hard-fought 10-round majority decision over previously undefeated, dominicainEliezer Aquino (17-0-1 allant dans). Lopez is coming off a second-round TKO over Eric Aiken dernier Décembre. 12.
Lopez was born in Phoenix, raised in Los Angeles and moved to San Antonio when he was 15. Il est allé 125-23 in the amateurs and won six national championships before turning pro in February 2012. He’s trained by former two-time world champion Carlos "Famoso" Hernandez.
Munoz will be making his United States debut and first start outside of Mexico. A pro since September 2010, he’s known for his come-forward style, first-rate overall skills and proficient punching power. Il est allé 140-10 dans les amateurs, winning three national Junior Olympic tournaments and coming away with bronze and silver medals in national championships.
Munoz, who hails from a fighting family, has an uncle who boxed professionally. He’s the one he credits for introducing him to boxing when he was 13. This will be his first fight since he scored a lopsided eight-round decision over Daniel Franco dernier Mai 2.
Ellis upset highly regarded Terrell Gausha to win the 2010 Golden Gloves nationales (Gausha would go on to represent the U.S. au 2012 Jeux Olympiques). Since going pro in February 2011, Ellis has fought in two countries (Puerto Rico, Mexique) and six U.S. villes (San Antonio, Carson, Calif., Winchester, Va., New York City, Tulsa and Inglewood, Calif.). The 26-year-old has faced mostly modest opposition and has seldom come close to putting in a full night’s work.
Ellis had had a series of delays and restarts since turning pro but feels he’s grown from his mistakes and that he’ll be stronger because of them. Pour sûr, his power hasn’t been affected. Tous 10 of his knockouts have come inside two rounds (eight in the first). The older brother of boxer Rashidi Ellis has won four straight by knockout, y compris un TKO de deuxième tour sur Jas Phipps dans son dernier départ dernier Août. 29. But he seems to be taking a sizeable step-up in class here.
Odom is looking to turn it around after losing two of his last three, the most recent defeat coming via a shocking third-round TKO to Samuel Clarkson (14-3 allant dans) sur ShoBox. The heavily favored, heavy-hitting Odom was dropped three times, once in the second and twice in the third, before the fight was halted at 1:15.
Odom, un amateur de haut et 2012 Champion national des Golden Gloves à 178 livres, eu une victoire fin de série 12 de combat sur Jan. 9, 2015, when he was disqualified against Andrew Hernandez. In the rematch the followingMars 13 sur ShoBox, Odom registered a 2:47, first-round TKO.
Dans son ShoBox début, Odom, who makes for exciting scraps, dropped previously unbeaten Vilier Quinonez (8-0) twice before stopping him in the seventh round on July 25, 2014.
Smith won his ShoBox debut in his last start on a hard-fought, eight-round unanimous decision over Benjamin Whitaker dernier Novembre. 6 in an outdoor fight in Las Vegas. Fighting in memory of his mother who died in late September and going eight rounds for the first time, the 5-foot-7Smith, overcame a nasty cut over the left eye from an unintentional headbutt in the sixth, rallied to score a knockdown in the seventh and triumphed by the scores of 79-73 et 78-74 deux fois.
Before turning pro in April 2010, Smith was a 2008 National Golden Gloves Featherweight Champion and 2007 Champion olympique national junior. Le sien 74-2 record in the amateurs included two victories overworld-ranked contender Amir I.
Romero had 268 amateur bouts and represented the Dominican Republic at the Olympics in 2012 (he lost to Vasyl Lomanchenko). Shortly thereafter he relocated to New York. He went pro in October 2013, fought four times in 2014 and five times last year.
A slick 5-foot-9 boxer who can punch and gives opponent issues because of his awkward style and movement, Romero, 24, has beat up on ordinary opposition and is coming off a first-round TKO over LuisMeroles dernier Décembre. 5. This looks to be his most daunting assignment to date.
Williams, 24, is a boxer-puncher who’s won seven in a row since boxing a draw in his second start in March 2013. This will be his first fight outside of New York. Making his eight-round debut in his last start onOctobre. 8, he won a shutout decision over Czech Republic’s Michal Dufek.
Favoriser, 22, gets a quick-fix opportunity to redeem himself after losing hisShoBox debut on an eight-round unanimous decision to underdog Sam Seah (6-1) sur Novembre. 6 card in Las Vegas.
A highly decorated amateur, the 5-foot-8½ inch Foster advanced to the 2012 U.S.. Jeux Olympiques essais où il a perdu à pro invaincu perspective, Joseph "Jo-Jo" Diaz. Avant ça, Foster was a 2011 Gants d'or et de Houston 2010 Champion national PAL, a five-time Ringside National Champion and two-time National Junior Golden Gloves Champion.
