QUINCY, Massa. (Luglio 6, 2017) — Many of New England’s best and most popular professional boxers will be showcased Sabato notte, Agosto 5, sul “Fight Night at the Bay” carta, presented by Granite Chin Promotions, at Marina Bay Sportplex in Quincy, Massachusetts.
Former N.E. welter campione Derek Silveira (12-1, 6 KO), fighting out of Salem (MA), will headline against an opponent to be determined in the eight-round main event.

Three-time world title challenger, welter Aleksandra Lopes (17-4-2, 1 KO) will be in action versus former world super lightweight champion Lisa Garland (15-7-1, 8 KO) in an eight-round Special Female Welterweight Attraction. The popular Lopes is a native of Poland who lives in Marshfield (MA), Garland hails from York, Carolina Del Sud.
“Granite Chin Promotions is turning it up a notch for our Agosto 5th evento,” co-promoter Chuck Shearns suddetto. “We are keeping promising, well-known young fighters busy. They’re fighting in front of their hometown fans, in some good scraps that promises to be an entertaining show. By the time the night is over, I expect we will have had a few surprises. A rising star overseas, Bray, Irlanda Taylor will make her U.S. debutto su Luglio 29 and conduct her training camp in Vernon, Connecticut after five pro fights in the United Kingdom dating back to her pro debut last November. Taylor has already picked up three victories in 2017, including her most recent triumph over previously unbeaten Nina Meinke in April. Taylor seeks a professional world title after a sensational amateur career that saw her twice represent her country in the Olympics, including a gold medal-winning performance in 2012, in addition to five gold medals in the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships.

 

Originally from Cork, Irlanda, Murphy returned to his home country to fight as a professional for the first time in February when he won an eight-round decision over Avelino Vazquez. The 22-year-old fights out of Woodlawn, NY and will look to pick up his fourth victory this year after most recently earning a decision over Brian Jones in May. Murphy seeks his third professional win at Barclays Center and second this year after beating Maxito Sainvil in January.

Her two professional MMA career victories to date both came by way of submission.

“I was really looking forward to fighting for Combate in February but unfortunately, Kyra robbed me of that chance with her unprofessional behavior by missing weight,” Rico said. “I hope that Kyra comes ready this time because I am very motivated to show the world who I am. I’ve waited so long now to get in the cage at Combate, it’s my time!"

The “Combate Clásico” live MMA event will join a nearly week-long extravaganza that begins with a match between marquee soccer clubs Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain at Hard Rock Stadium on Luglio 26 as well as concerts, parties and other interactive events prior to “El Clásico Miami” on Luglio 29.

The confident and hard-hitting Miller has knocked out seven consecutive opponents since his pro debut in 2009. Following a voluntary layoff due to contractual disputes, the 28-year-old former professional kickboxer will take a step up in opposition when he faces Washington, a U.S. Navy veteran who challenged heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder earlier this year in a hard-fought bout.

He played football under Pete Carroll and Steve Sarkisian at University of Southern California and was part of the Buffalo Bills and Seattle Seahawks practice squads before turning to boxing. Washington holds victories over experienced one-time Wladimir Klitschko foe Eddie Chambers and veteran Ray Austin. He will be making his East Coast debut on Luglio 29.

CANCUN, Messico (Luglio 6 2017) – The third installment of the 2017 “Cancun Boxing” serie, presented by Pepe Gomez Boxing in association with Neon Star Sports & Divertimento, will air this Saturday night (Luglio 7) in Nord America, a partire da 8 p.m. E / 5 p.m. PT, su CBS Sports Network. The event took place this past June 3rd at Grand Oasis Cancun the Hotel Complex, Cancun`s ONLY Ultimate All-Inclusive Entertainment Resort, which hosts all series events.

Former IBF/WBO Minimumweight World Champion Francisco “Chihuas” Rodriguez, Jr. (22-4-1, 14 KO) fought late replacement Rolando “El Duende” Gusman (15-3, 9 KO), di Argentina, in the 12-round WBC Flyweight World Title Eliminator. Rodriguez’ originale avversario, “Lil” Oscar Cantù (14-1, 1 KO), was injured in a car accident only days before the scheduled event.
Rodriguez, 23, won his first world title in 2014, stopping previously unbeaten Merlito Sabillo (23-0-1), the defending WBO minimumweight title fight in Mexico, nel 10thround. Later that same year, Rodriguez successfully defended his WBO crown with a 12-round unanimous decision over IBF minimumweight title holder Katsunari Takayama (27-6) to become unified world champion. Rodriguez vacated both titles in late 2014.
The 23-year-old Rodriguez unsuccessfully challenged WBA Light Flyweight World Champion Donnie Nietes (35-1-4), the reigning IBF flyweight world champion, dropping a 12-round unanimous decision.

The eight-round co-feature is a female featherweight rematch between Mexican rivals Jack Calvo (10-2-1, 1 KO) e Yesenia “La Nina” Gomez (13-4-1, 6 KO). The two fought to a six-round draw this past April on a Cancun Boxing card.
The televised opener is an eight-round, non-title fight between a pair of Mexican lightweights, WBC Latino champion Francisco “Paquito” Rosso (19-2, 12 KO) and Mexican Pacific Coast titlist Gesù “Kiligua” Velazco (13-9-2, 5 KO).

LAS VEGAS, NV (Luglio 5, 2017) – After traveling overseas for the “Monkstown Dublin Box Cup 2017”, an international amateur boxing tournament in Ireland, Demler Zamora III della Pound-4-Pound Boxing program in Las Vegas, brought home a gold medal. In aggiunta, Zamora was voted most outstanding boxer of the tournament, which hosted over 1,000 fighters from around the world.

“The Bosnian Prince” Armin Mrkanovic gets robbed in West Virginia

Queens, NY (Luglio 5, 2017) – On June 24th, cruiserweight Armin Mrkanovic went into his UBF All-Americas title bout with Josh Himes, thinking that even though he was fighting in his opponent’s home territory of Moundsville, Virginia Dell'ovest, that he would receive a fair shake.

That was not the case as most ringside observers believed that Mrkanovic should have come out with the verdict, but instead it was Himes who came out with the unanimous decision by scores of 77-75, 79-73 and an inexplicable 80-72 conteggio.
“Before the fight, I knew I could and would beat him easily. Before the fight, i was told that my wife got stuck on the road on her drive to West Virginia, and I can admit that I lost the first two rounds,” said Mrkanovic. “I then clearly won five of the next rounds, so for those two judges to give zero and one round shows that something was not right with the fight.”
Mrkanovic claims that even Himes’ team agreed that wrong man had his hand raised.
“After the fight was over, his trainer apologized to me, and admitted the fight was at worst a draw, but said that I should have won the fight. The two other cornermen echoed the same sentiments.”
Mrkanovic wanted to view the fight for himself, but has received pushback from the local promotion.
“I asked for a copy of the fight, and the promoter has refused to show me. He did not want to share for fear that I would be able to look at what happened. It would have done two things, I would have even a more clear argument plus if there is a rematch, I could further expose Himes’ flaws and be even better the next time around. It is funny, I was told that there a handful of people filming it to Facebook Live, but mysteriously those videos are gone. The President of the UBF requested the video, and he can’t even view it.The local paper only mentioned the result of the fight, but made other fight’s more prominent in their story. I was lucky that I was able to download one of those copies to my phone. I am able to view it, but because the original copy is erased, it is not shareable.”
“My team is working on out options on what we can do about this miscarriage of justice.”
