Team USA’s newest boxing star Light heavyweight Khalil Coe

(ל-ר) – USA head coach Billy Walsh, USA National assistant coach Kay Koroma, Khalil Coe and coach Jeff Mays

קאָלאָראַדאָ ספּרינגס, קאָלאָראַדאָ (יולי 9, 2018) – A star was born last month at the 45טה Chemistry Cup in Halle, דייַטשלאַנד, when American light heavyweight Khalil Coe shocked the amateur boxing world, stopping Cuban’s multiple world champion Julio Cesar La Cruz in the opening round of the championship final match.

קימאַט 100 boxers represented 16 different countries at the Chemistry Cup, אַרייַנגערעכנט, רוסלאַנד, אוקריינא, ירעלאַנד, India and host Germany, in addition to the United States and Cuba.

The 21-year-old Coe, who was boxing in only his 25טה match, his first on the International scene, stole the show and he was named Most Outstanding Boxer of the tournament. In the semifinals, Coe knocked out Matus Strnisko, of Slovakia, אין דער ערשטער קייַלעכיק.

VOTE FOR KHALIL COE

Khalil Coe is a candidate for the USOC Best Male Athlete of the Month for June. Voting ends this evening at הטטפּס://awards.teamusa.org/

Coe respected but he wasn’t intimidated by his much more experienced opponent, 2016 Olympic gold medalist and four-time world champion La Cruz, who had one less fight in the World Boxing Series than Cue did during his entire amateur career.

My first fight in the tournament was the hardest I’d had,” Coe explained. “I studied him (La Cruz) a lot and watched him fight in the semifinals (defeating three-time European champion Joseph Ward (ירעלאַנד), which was right after my semifinals fight. ער (La Cruz) is very elusive and flashy, but he doesn’t like to get hit in the body. He moves his body, but he forgets about his head. I pulled him, on him, moving around with my footwork and shuffling. He threw a lazy jab and I hit him right on the chin with a right.

Coe’s short, compact right-hand punch landed right on the button, dropping La Cruz a little less than two-minutes into round one. The Cuban beat the count, but the referee ruled that he was unable to continue. La Cruz was still “דער מענטש” in the light heavyweight division and by knocking him out, Coe proved that he truly belongs with the elite, and that the No. 1-rated American is the fighter to beat in terms of qualifying for the 2020 יוז. אָלימפּיק מאַנשאַפֿט.

I let everybody know that I’m here,” Coe added. “I still need to work on a lot of different things. I need to throw more combinations, keep by stamina up, and improve everything to be better. I’m more of a pure boxer, but I have strength and punching power. Coach (בילי)Walsh doesn’t change his fighters, he adds to what they have. The coaches put together a fight plan and I executed it.

Khalil’s performances in Germany were world class,” Team USA head coach Walsh said, “To be truly world class, we now have to repeat those performances regularly, and that’s where the challenge lies.

On this year’s USA vs. Ireland Northeast Tour, Coe was 2-0 against his Irish counterparts in Boston and Springfield

Coe often got into fights in school, until his mother sent him to a local gym, and his first amateur bout was when he was 12. If he wasn’t boxing right now, the 6′ 1″ Coe believes he would probably be playing college football, as a fullback or defensive end.

Close with his USA teammates, particularly Keyshawn Davis, Coe lives and trains with them in Colorado Springs. “We’re more than a team,” the Jersey City, New Jersey boxer concluded, “we’re like a family – גויס, gals and coachesin Colorado Springs.

I’m going to turn pro after the Olympics, one way or the other, God-willing, after I win a gold medal.

Tokyo is legitimately in Khalil Coe’s sights!

BARRIOS SCORES KNOCKOUT OF THE YEAR TYPE KO OVER SATYBALDINOVA

Photos By Robert Elizondo

קאָרפּוס קריסטי, טקס (יולי 8, 2018) – Last night in star fashion, San Antonio’s undefeated female boxing sensation, סעלינאַ “אַזטעק מלכּה” נעיגהבאָרהאָאָדס,” ימפּרוווד צו (4-0, 2 קאָס), with devastating one punch knockout over current WBF international lightweight champion, AidaLady SpartaSatybaldinova (3-1-1). Barrios landed a crushing picture perfect left hook to the chin of Satybaldinova, סאָף די באַוט בייַ די 1:24 mark of round four, in what many would say is a candidate for “נאַקאַוט פון די יאר”. The fight that took place at the American Bank Center Water Garden room in Corpus Christi, טקס, presented by Reyna Promotions.

From the opening bell both fighters went bombs away, with Selina landing the cleaner, more powerful blows to Satybaldinova. “Lady Spartawas all game as she went toe-to-toe with Barrios, holding her ground for the time being, but taking a lot of damage. אין קייַלעכיק צוויי, both fighters continued to leave everything in the ring, throwing power punches with both hands. Barrios again was getting the better punches off. אין קייַלעכיק דרייַ, Barrios hurt Satybaldinova with a combination flurry of punches, but Aida being the warrior that she is, made it to round four. After another aggressive being to the round, Barrios landed that massive left hook to the jaw of Satybaldinova, and the fight was over.

I wanted to come out tonight and give my Texas fans a night to remember,” said Selina Barrios, who is the current NABF lightweight champion. “After feeling her out in the first couple of rounds, I knew I was going to land a big shot at some point in the right, because she was standing right in front of me. When I landed that left hook, I knew she wasn’t going to get up. I set it up nicely, and she walked right into it. I have a lot of respect for Aida, she fought like a warrior, and if she wants the rematch, I’ll give it to her.

I fought hard but didn’t get victory tonight,” said Satybaldinova. “Next time I will win. I will continue to work harder to fight the best. I will never give up. I hope to fight Selina again in rematch.

מיט די נצחון, Selina gets the fourth win of her career. Barrios said she is willing to fight anyone in the lightweight division, including all champions. When asked about what next Barrios stated.

I want to call out all the women fighting in the lightweight division.” באַרריאָס פארבליבן. “You might have took the Olympics from me, but you cant run from me now. Katie Taylor און Mikaela Mayer, you can’t hide forever, I’m coming for all Y’all.

Selina put on a spectacular show tonight,” האט Colin Campbell, co-manager of Barrios. “A performance like this puts her at the top of all females vying to be considered the most dangerous fighter in women’s boxing.

What an unbelievable knockout Selina displayed tonight,” סטייטיד Charles Campbell, who co-manages Barrios with his son Colin. “Once the knockout hits the masses, its going to go viral. Selina belongs up there with Clarissa Shield as one of the best female boxers in the sport. No female boxer is more exciting to watch then Selina Barrios, no one!”

All females fighting at lightweight and super featherweight better take notice of Selina Barrios.” האט באַרריאָס’ advisor-promoter Kerry Daigle, פון Keep Punching Entertainment.Although Selina had a remarkable performance tonight, the best is yet to come. We still haven’t seen the best Selina Barrios yet, and that is scary. She is taking the boxing world by storm.

סאַן אַנטאָניאָ, טקס (יולי 9, 2018) – For those who missed the war that everyone is talking about in women’s boxing between סעלינאַ “אַזטעק מלכּה” נעיגהבאָרהאָאָדס (4-0, 2 קאָס), און AidaLady SpartaSatybaldinova (3-1-1), please click the video link above to see the full fight in its entirety. נעיגהבאָרהאָאָדס’ knockout over Satybaldinova is a candidate for “נאַקאַוט פון די יאר”.

Calderon Beats Martinez in Grudge Match at Hard Rock Event Center at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, פלאַ.

A heated crosstown welterweight rivalry was decided tonight in front of a near sellout crowd at Hard Rock Event Center at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, פלאָרידאַ, as Miami’s Harold “King” Calderon (17-0, 10 קאָס) out-worked and out-punched Miami’s formerly undefeated John David “Pretty Boy” Martinez (10-1, 8 קאָס)

Fighting in the 10-round main event of Kris Lawrence’s Heavyweight Factory Boxing “Hometown Throwdown,” event, Calderon cruised to a dominant 10-round decision by scores of 99-91, 100-90 און 100-90.

A combination-punching southpaw, Calderon had too many weapons for Martinez. He ripped to the body and head for 10 ראָונדס, while Martinez offered up the occasional one/two.

Both fighters are enormously popular in the region and their fans tried everything to drown each other out all fight.

In the night’s 10-round super lightweight co-main event, Honolulu’s undefeated Logan “The Korican Kid” Yoon moved his record to 12-0, 10 קאָס, with a routine unanimous decision over Colombian veteran Luis E. פלאָווערס (24-10, 20 קאָס).

The promising 19-year-old Yoon, the WBO-NABO Youth Super Lightweight Champion and WBO #13-rated contender, learned a lesson about veteran survival tactics, as he followed the reluctant Colombian around the ring the entire fight, looking for opportunities to engage. Flores landed the occasional right hand on the southpaw Yoon, but mostly threw pot shots that missed and then quickly circled out of range of any return fire.

Yoon was cut over the left eye by a headbutt, but still managed to dominate the infrequent action. די סקאָרז זענען 99-91, 97-93 און 97-93.

Two-time Olympic medalist Ivan Dychko of Hollywood, פלאָרידאַ, via Kazakhstan, moved his perfect record to 7-0 (7 קאָס) with a one-punch demolition of once promising Maurice Harris 26-22-3 (11 קאָס) of East Orange, ניו דזשערזי.

Dychko, who said he was hoping to learn something from the experienced Harris, landed a glancing right hook and Harris elected to look for a soft spot to land. Disappointed fans voice their disapproval of Harris’ non-effort. The time of the 10 count was 1:39.

Two featherweights went to crowd-pleasing war over city-wide bragging rights, and after six rounds of “bombs away” action, Jessy Cruz (איצט 13-7-1, 5 קאָס) ended up taking a unanimous decision over fellow Miami resident Raul Chirino (11-8, 6 קאָס).

The all-action Cruz can’t seem to be in a bad fight and this one was no different. He was down and badly hurt near the end of round one. Chirino was badly staggered at the end of round two and down from a right hand in round three.

די סקאָרז זענען 58-54, 57-55 און 57-55, but this fun fight could have easily been called a draw.

A single left hook by Miami’s Livan Navarro at 2:47 of round one brought an end to what was shaping up to be a decent eight-round welterweight showdown against the Dominican’s Julio C Reynoso.

The pair came out swinging for the fences and Navarro (איצט 8-0, 6 קאָס) hit it first with the sledgehammer left hand to the jaw of Reynoso (איצט 12-2, 7 קאָס) who dropped and took the full 10 count on one knee.

In a fight where both fighters appeared to injure themselves, popular Miami slugger Ulysses Diaz was forced to go the distance for the first time, but still managed to win his light heavyweight four-rounder over Chicago’s Israel Echevarria by unanimous decision (scores of 39-37, 40-36 און 40-36).

As in many fights tonight, the judges’ verdicts were no indication of the closeness of the fight. The two warriors each did their share of good work. The heavily muscled Diaz (איצט 6-0, 5 קאָס) landed the harder punches occasionally while favoring his right arm. The crafty Echevarria (איצט 3-5, 2 קאָס) snuck in a number of sneaky shots, despite an injured left leg.

To put it mildly, Echevarria was very unhappy with the decision.

In an all-Miami super middleweight scrap, Cuban import Irosvani Duvergel (3-0, 2 קאָס) won a four-round unanimous decision over “better than his record” Elie Agustama (6-9, 3 קאָס).

Duvergel, who had never seen the second round of a professional fight previously, dropped Agustama in the first, but the durable Agustama got up and made a great fight of it. The free-swinging pair brawled furiously the rest of the way. The scores (40-35, 39-36 און 39-36) didn’t reflect the competitiveness of the combat.

In a back-and-forth six-round lightweight battle, Coral Springs, Florida’s Dustin Arnold (5-1, 1 קאָ) won a closely contested unanimous decision over Miami’s Daniel Placeres (איצט (6-1, 5 קאָס).

Arnold landed the cleaner, harder shots to offset the superior work rate of the shorter Placeres. Plenty of crowd support for both fighters. די סקאָרז זענען 60-54, 58-56 און 59-55

Undefeated Lawrence Newton, of Boynton Beach, פלאָרידאַ, chose to brawl inside for all six rounds of his super bantamweight showdown with tough Mexican, Pedro Melo of Tijuana.

The result was an entertaining if one-sided brawl with nice punches landed both ways. אין די סוף, ניוטאן (10-0, 6 קאָס) kept his perfect record by scores of 60-54, 59-55 און 59-55. Melo falls to 17-19-2, 8 קאָס) with his respectable performance.

Berto previously challenged retired legend Floyd Mayweather in September 2015 and has engaged in numerous Fight of the Year-worthy bouts, כולל אַ 2012 war with Robert Guerrero and his first fight with Ortiz. He has twice held a welterweight title, first the WBC belt, which he successfully defended five times between 2008 און 2011, plus the IBF crown he picked up in 2011 with a victory over Jan Zaveck.

This is a great fight that has been a long time coming,” האט בערטאָ. “We share some common opponents, but we have different styles of fighting and styles make fights. אלכסנדר returned to the spotlight in February after only fighting once since 2015 while he sought treatment for an addiction to painkillers. He looked sharp in his first big fight in years, displaying similar speed and skills that had made him a two-weight champion before being given a controversial draw against former champion Victor Ortiz on FOX, in a fight most thought Alexander had won.

The 31-year-old emerged onto the scene with a unanimous decision victory over Randall Bailey to add the welterweight crown to the 140-pound title he had won three years prior. Originally from St. לוי, but now training in Florida with longtime coach Kevin Cunningham, Alexander has defeated the likes of Marcos Maidana, Lucas Matthysse and Jesus Soto Karass throughout his accomplished career.

“איך בין זייער יקסייטאַד וועגן דעם קאַמף. Berto and I have history going back to the amateurs,” Alexander said. “איך וויסן אים זייער געזונט, but we’ve never fought. I have to show that I’m still one of the best in a stacked division. This is all business for me, because at this point in my career, I’m approaching every fight as if it’s my last. This is prime time for me.

My mentality is that Berto is still the killer that he was 10 יאר צוריק. So I’m looking at him like he’s lost nothing. I’ve got one mission, and that’s to beat Berto. I’ll be technically sound and 100 percent focused on accomplishing that task.

I’ve definitely always been a guy who steps out and does what people think I can’t do. I know J’Leon is looking to make a splash. He needs a name on his resume. I have to do everything in my power to make sure that doesn’t happen. Either he’s going to have to learn a hard lesson or give me a hard lesson.
