Team USA Advances 3 to Youth World Championships Finals

Isamary Aqunio Wins Bronze

BUDAPEST, Macaristan (Ağustos 28, 2018) – On the eighth day of competition at the 2018 Youth World Championships in Budapest, Macaristan, Team USA advanced three boxers to the championship bouts, süre Isamary Aquino(Universal City, Teksas) picked up her second Youth World Championships bronze medal.

Stevens will be looking to become the first flyweight Youth World Champion for Team USA since Shakur Stevenson won in 2014 when he steps into the ring on Friday against England’s Ivan Price, the 2018 European Champion.

 

 

 

2015 Gençler Dünya Şampiyonu Cennet Garcia (El Monte, Kaliforniya.) revenged her quarterfinal loss to Kazakhstan’s Zhansaya Abdraimova at last year’s Youth World Championships by taking the rematch with a 3-2 karar. Garcia will join Stevens on the second day of finals, as she will face Anamika Urang of India, the 2018 Asian Confederation silver medalist.

 

 

 

The third American to advance to the finals, Iyana Verduzco (Los Angeles, Kaliforniya.), continued her impressive World Championships debut with a 4-1 victory over Aycan Guldgai of Turkey. Verduzco will be the first member of Team USA to box in the finals, as she will take on Aizada Yeslyamgali, the 2018 Asian Confederation silver medalist, Perşembe günü.

 

 

 

Aqunio, the final member of Team USA to box in the semifinals, fell short of advancing to the championship bouts against Sakshi of India. This marks Aquino’s second Youth World Championships bronze medal after taking home the bronze at last year’s Youth World Championships.

World-rated Russian super middleweight prospect Aslambek “The Hulk” Idigov will return to action on Wednesday, Eylül 5, in his hometown of Grozny, Rusya, against former African champion Daniel Wanyonyi for the WBA Asian Championship.

Ukrainian Korean Puncher Arnold Khegai Sets His Sights on WBO Champ Isaac Dogboe

Based on his performance this past weekend, it would be understandable for most of the world’s 122-lb fighters to want to avoid UK-based WBO Super Bantamweight Champion Isaac Dogboe… Not Arnold Khegai.

 

 

 

Khegai, the ethnic Korean, Ukrainian-born #12-rated WBO contender, is calling out Dogboe.

 

 

 

“I feel I am the best super bantamweight in the world!” said the confident Khegai. “I want to prove my point by fighting the most avoided fighters in the division. Bring on Dogboe!"

 

 

 

Last Saturday night at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Kaliforniya, the undefeated Dogboe (20-0, 14 KOs) scored an eye-opening TKO 1 over challenger Hidenori Otake of Japan. Dogboe looked to be a serious force while dominating his foe and dropping him twice with relative ease.

Through the three intertwined yet unique narratives, the film explores the pressures and sacrifices on the arduous journey toward boxing greatness.

 

 

 

Shot in a cinema verité-style with no voice-over narration, the character-driven narrative examines what it means to “fight for your life,” not only for the boxers, but also for their coaches, mentors, teammates and loved ones. CRADLE OF CHAMPIONS includes genuine characters and intimate revelations set against the gritty urban landscape of New York City to create a powerful and layered account of the 2015 turnuva.

 

 

 

The film follows Williams and Wilkins as they battle through opposite sides of the 132-pound bracket. Williams is the tournament favorite on the brink of professional success. He is mentored by coach Joe Higgins, a retired New York City firefighter suffering from illnesses sustained during rescue and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Wilkins, a Staten Island native who channels his propensity for fighting into an amateur career, aims to beat Williams and establish himself as a prospect to watch as he turns to the professional ranks.
