FNU Combate Sports Concerto: Quitters Never Win

This broadcast of the FNU Combat Sports Show starts off with one of the most controversial stories of the week. Many sports pundits are quick to ridicule Guillermo Rigondeaux for bowing out of his blockbuster boxing match with Vasyl Lomachenko last Saturday. ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith wasted no time during the broadcast, ripping into the Cuban boxer for refusing to come out for the seventh round of the one-sided fight. Teddy Atlas, exiled from his ringside reporting duties thanks to his outspoken views on boxing corruption and his abrasive treatment of lesser-experienced commentators, came to Rigo’s defense. Atlas argued with Smith from his own home studio, basically explaining that everyone is human. Ton, Tony and Rich all offer their own takes on the situation and their thoughts on thefight.

We also track the latest news in combat sports, recap the past week’s events and preview competing UFC and Bellator events this Saturday. We even touch on the multiple story lines involving Floyd Mayweather Jr. that are making the rounds in the sports media this week. “Diñeiro” claims he can make up to a billion dollars if he goes into the UFC for a three or four fight deal. Ben, good luck, Floyd. I hear CM Punk wants another fight.

Listen to the two part broadcast below.

SHOWTIME SPORTS confirmed today that the SHOWTIME PPV presentation of Mayweather vs. McGregor on August 26, 2017 generated 4.3 million pay-per-view buys in North America. This includes traditional television distribution and online portals such as the new SHOWTIME PPV app and SHOWTIMEPPV.com as well as UFC.TV in U.S. e Canadá.

Mayweather vs. McGregor, a four-fight SHOWTIME PPV boxing event at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, officially stands as the second largest pay-per-view event of all time behind Mayweather vs. Pacquiao, which set the North American pay-per-view mark at 4.6 million buys in 2015. The SHOWTIME PPV totals for Mayweather vs. McGregor far exceed the now third best event in history—nearly doubling the 2.48 million buys for Oscar De La Hoya vs. Mayweather in 2007.

The total global revenue from the event including ticket sales, sponsorship and international distribution exceeds $600 millón, which—along with Mayweather vs. Pacquiao— is among the largest for a single-day sporting event of all time. Mayweather and SHOWTIME PPV now account for the three highest grossing pay-per-view events in television history with the third-ranked event Mayweather vs. Canelo from 2013.

We’re Back! FNU Combat Sports Show Returns!

After a couple weeks off, we come back this week to talk about the combat sports world. Ton, Tony and Rich catch up and discuss the events of the past couple weeks and preview upcoming boxing and MMA action. Ton, Tony and Rich pay special attention to last weekend’s awesome UFC card with two of the best fights of the year in MMA to chat about. Eddie Alvarez’s masterful performance against Justin Gaethje was exciting enough, but add in the performance of Yancy Medeiros against Charles Oliveira and that put this card into a category all its own. We also discuss the latest boxing news and Miguel Cotto’s retirement fight. Listen to the broadcast in the player below.

FNU Combate Sports Concerto: Tony, Tom and Rich Discuss All Things Combat Sports

Ton, Tony and Rich are back this week with a great show! We feature lots of engaging discussion about mixed martial arts and boxing, from Connor McGregor’s slapping a Bellator official to Deontay Wilder wanting to end Anthony Joshua’s career. We also chat about Dana White getting into boxing and Bellator’s 8 Man Heavyweight tournament. Again we get back to the nagging question of where are the legends in MMA, and we also cross over to where are the legends in boxing?

Former UFC heavyweight title challenger GabrielNapaoGonzaga Victorious in pro boxing debut

NEW ENGLAND’S FUTURE 4RESULTS

Gabriel Gonzaga (R) won his pro boxing debut
WORCESTER, Masa. (Outubro 29, 2017) – Former UFC heavyweight title challenger Gabriel “NapaoGonzaga has a successful pro boxing debut last night (Sábado, Outubro. 28) in the co-featured event on theNew England’s Future 4” tarxeta, presentado por Rivera Ofertas Lecer (RPE), at DCU Center, Exhibition Hall, en Worcester.
A 6′ 2″, 280-pound Brazilian, now fighting out of Worcester (MA), fought another pro-debut boxer with limited MMA experience, Alejandro Esquilin Santiago, de Tampa (FL). Gonzaga stalked the southpaw Santiago, landing some hard shots in the opening round. The heavy-handed Gonzaga picked up the pace in the third and his upset-minded opponent responded in a positive fashion. Both fighters exchanged freely in the fourth and final round, neither was hurt during the contest, and Gonzaga was awarded a win by four-round majority decision.
I thought I’d be more relaxed in the ring like I had been in the gym,” Gonzaga said. “I did my best and came away with a victory. I was too safe in the third round. My punches were much strong and a lot of his punches I blocked with my gloves. This was really great! esta noite”

Gonzaga (L) defeated Santiago
I felt good and gave it my all,” Santiago remarked. “He hit me with some shots and gave ’em back. Not only does he have a big nose (“Napao”), he has a strong, big head, tamén.”
No evento principal, popular Hartford (CT) medio-pesados Richard “Popeye The Sailor Man” Rivera permaneceu invicto, improving his record to 4-0 (3 Kos), with a first-round knockout of an over-matched Hansen Castillo (0-3)
Rivera, not relations to the promoter, first dropped Castillo with a beautifully placed left uppercut and finished the show moments later with a left hook that sent Castillo flying to canvas. Árbitro Kevin Hope didn’t bother to count.
My coaches were telling me to be calm because it was a six-round bout,” Rivera explicou. “I saw that he had his left down and caught him with an uppercut. I’m strong to the finish because I eat my spinach.
New Haven junior middleweight Edwin Sosa (11-2-2, 4 Kos) overcame at 15-pound disadvantage, at the very least, en route to a dominant six-round unanimous decision over Anthony “The Animal” Everett (1-7), of Rowley (MA).
Danbury (CT) welterweight Júnior Omar Borðoy, JR. (3-0, 1 KO) stopped New York veteran Bryan “The Brick” Abraham (6-31, 6 Kos) in the fourth and final round. Abraham was decked twice and after counting to 10 after Abraham’s second time on the canvas, referee Paul Casey waved off the action.
Three-time national amateur champion ElvisChi Chi” Figueroa (3-0, 1 KO), fighting out of New Haven, pitched a complete shutout over a game, pro-estreando Rene Nazare(0-1), do Brasil, for a convincing win by way of a four-round unanimous decision.
Southbridge (MA) welterweight Wilfredo “o Sucaro” pagán (3-0, 1 KO) pinnedPatrick Leal (0-4), de Woburn, on the ropes early, dropping him three times until referee Casey halted the fight midway through the opening round.
