Riding a six-fight win streak, the 29-year-old Butenko captured the vacant M-1 Challenge lightweight title belt last June at M-1 Challenge 67, when he took a five-round unanimous decision over Artiom Damkovsky.

Romanov has had impressive victories in M-1 Challenge competition, including a decision over against Brazilian foe Carlos Pereira last October at എം-1 വെല്ലുവിളി 71, as well as a first-round stoppage via punches of Andreas Birgels this past June at എം-1 വെല്ലുവിളി 68.
