LOWELL, Masse. (Janvier 9, 2017) – The 71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship kicks-off ce vendredi nuit (Jan. 13) featuring Central New England (grand Lowell) preliminary-round action at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium. Voir la complète 2017 schedule below.
L'année dernière, Gym Peter Welch (South Boston) dominated the Central New England tournament, capturing seven individual titles, followed in team scoring by the Lowell West End Gym and Grealish Boxing (Dorchester).
One of the boxers to watch this year is North Chelmsford’s Brandon Higgins, who represents the Lowell West End Gym.

LOWELL, Masse. (Février 26, 2016) – Western New England dominated the open class finals of the New England Tournament of Champions, part of the 70e annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship, winning seven of 10 matches last night at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
The eight men’s individual open class winners earned spots on Team New England for the 2016 Championnats nationaux Golden Gloves, Mai 16-21, à Salt Lake City, Utah. Team New England includes two of the top ranked boxers in the country, mi-lourds Elvis Figueroa and light welterweight Jaime Ortiz Rodriguez (repeat NE champion), both members of N.E. open class team champion from Western NE. Burlington, MA featherweight Amanda Pavone captured her sixth NE. titre.
“In the last 10 ans,” explained New England Golden Gloves Executive Director Bobby Russo, “we hadn’t been on a good run. Attendance dropped off a little each year. Last year’s horrible weather killed us. Cette année, bien que, the excitement was back and attendance was up 30-percent. There was a younger crowd and many novice boxers had good fan bases, which we need to build up every year. We had a lot of good fights and good boxers this year. Boxing is back in Lowell! We had a great season.
“Team New England will be very strong. We have a young team but many of these boxers have a lot of invaluable experience from Junior Olympics competition, from heavyweight on down. I think we have an impressive team that will do very well at The Nationals this year.”
Team champions were Western N.E. in the open class, central N.E. in the novice class.

NOVICE CLASS FINALS RESULTS FROM LOWELL
LOWELL, Masse. (Février 19, 2016) – Fourteen 2016 New England Tournament of Champions winners were crowned last night in the novice class of 70e annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
Team Central produced the most individual winners with seven, followed by Team Western with five, and Team Central had two.
The unofficial fight of the night was between Salem, welters MA Kenny Larson (Team Central) and his Dorchester, MA opponent Jarrod LoMax (Équipe Sud), in which Larson won a three-round decision, 3-2.
Portland, ME bantamweight Christian Morales (Team Northern) continued his performance run in the tournament, winning a three-round decision, 5-0, over hometown Lowell favorite Marquis Fowler (Team Central) Morales’ impressive showings in the tournament will lead him into an open division spot in next week’s New Englands.
In a Central N.E. (grand Lowell) heavyweight final rematch, due to a round-time issue, Methuen’s Jesus Flores (Canal Street Boxing) defeated Haverhill’s John Roche (Boxe Haverhill Downtown) by the same score as their original match in another thrilling, back-and-forth bout ending a in three-round decision (5-0). The crosstown rivalry between the two gyms and boxers led up to another compelling match with Flores qualifying for Mercredi night’s open class semifinals of the New England Tournament of Champions.
The New England Tournament of Champions open class semifinals and finals will be held mercredi prochain et Jeudisoirées, respectivement, au Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
The Outstanding New England Boxer in the novice class will be presented to the winner ce mercredi night at the N.E. open semifinals.

LOWELL, Masse. (Février 11, 2016) – Team Central had the edge in last night’s novice class semifinals of the New England Tournament of Champions, part of the 70th annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship, at Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
Team Central had five individual winners, followed by Team South and Team West with three victories and Team North had two. The novice class finals of the N.E. Tournament of Champions will be held Jeudi, Février. 18 au Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
The Fight of the Night was the light heavyweight match of the novice class as Team South’s Henry Ventura (N. Dartmouth, MA) overcame two knockdowns to defeat Team North’s Tyler Jacques (St. Albans, Vermont) who was dropped once and also had a standing eight count, au moyen d'une décision unanime (5-0).
Three remaining Central New England (grand Lowell) open class final matches were also held last night. See all results below, as well as the remaining 2016 calendrier.

LOWELL, Masse. (Février 5, 2016) – Peter Welch’s Gym in South Boston dominated last night’s Central New England (grand Lowell) championship final round of the 70th annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship, open and novice classes, à l'auditorium historique Lowell Memorial.
Peter Welch’s Gym had seven winners last night: open – Hyde Park welterweight Jennifer Perella and Brookline light welterweight Abraham Nova; novice – Dorchester lightweightJonathen DePina et moyens Brian Lawrence, East Boston lightweight Claire Duffy super-légers, Boston light welterweight Katie Gregory and Franklin heavyweight Jared Gately.
Lowell West End Gym and Grealish Boston had the second-most winners last evening with two apiece.
Hier soir, 15 matches went the distance, including several upsets, along with one technical knockout and a two walkovers.
All CNE finals winners qualified to compete in the upcoming New England Tournament of Champions, also held at Lowell Memorial Auditorium, départ jeudi prochain night with the semifinals of the novice division.

(Février 2, 2016) – Thirty-eight surviving amateur boxers will compete in 19 scheduled matches this Thursday night (Février. 4) the Central New England (grand Lowell) final round, open and novice divisions, of the 70th annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
