(ਫਰਵਰੀ 28, 2017) – The top male and female amateur boxers in New England will compete in the New England Tournament of Champions open class semifinal and finals, ਕੱਲ ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ (Wed., ਸਾਗਰ. 1) ਅਤੇ ਵੀਰਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਮ ਨੂੰ (ਸਾਗਰ. 2), to highlight the 71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
Much is stake for these boxers as the 2016 N.E. champions will qualify to represent Team New England at the National Golden Gloves Championships for men in Lafayette, ਲੁਈਸਿਆਨਾ (ਮਈ) and women in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida (ਜੁਲਾਈ).
The competing boxers will represent four teams at the New England Tournament of Champions: ਮੱਧ New England, Western New England, Northern New England and Southern New England.

71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship

 

ਲੋਏਲ, ਮਾਸ. (ਫਰਵਰੀ 24, 2017) – Twelve novice division champions were crowned last night in the men and women’s finals of the New England Tournament of Champions, part of the 71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship, at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
Central New England edged Western New England, 6-4, to win the team title and receive the George McGuane Award. Northern New England had the other two individual winners.
The much-anticipated showdown in the light welterweight bout lived up to its billing as Alejandro Paulino, of New London (CT), defeated Tyngsboro’s (ਐਮ) Nathan Balakin, 4-1. Paulino was presented the Louie Ayala Memorial Award as the Outstanding Boxer. Jose Ayala, Louie’s brother, made the presentation.
“We had another big, enthusiastic crowd that enjoyed watching some great matches,” ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ Bobby Russo, New England Golden Gloves Executive Director. “The novice division finals had so many good matchups. Paulino versus Balakin was a very good fight. ਹੁਣ, we move on to next week’s open division semifinals and finals of the New England Tournament of Champions.”

To the delight of an always enthusiastic crowd, hometown-favorite Team Central had the most individual winners with seven, followed by Team Western (4), Team Southern (3) and Team Northern (1).

(ਫਰਵਰੀ 11, 2017) – ਮੱਧ New England (Greater Lowell) division champions in the open and novice divisions were crowned last night in the final round of the 71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium. Fans braved the frigid cold weather to support the amateur boxers.

ਲੋਏਲ, ਮਾਸ. (ਫਰਵਰੀ 3, 2017) – Fourteen exciting matches were held last night in the semifinals round of the 71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship, ਮੱਧ New England (Greater Lowell) ਵੰਡ, at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.

Last night’s action included nine novice division semifinals matches, eight men’s and one women’s, as well as four open men’s matches. Two of the open matches featured final competitions (not semifinals like the others) as Boston light heavyweight Taylor Mears, representing The Ring gym, stopped Nahua’s (NH) John Xifaris ਦੂਜੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ, and North Chelmsford lightweight Brandon Higgins edged Dorchester’s Jonathan Depina on points, 3-2.
Gloucester’s Gedney brothers, middleweights Adrien ਅਤੇ Henry, both won last night, shutting out their opponents (5-0), ਕ੍ਰਮਵਾਰ, James Marino, ਮੇਦਫੋਰਦ ਦੇ, ਅਤੇ Furcy Ferreras, of Peabody. Arguably the most action-packed match last night was between lightweights Jeremiah Perez, of Lowell, ਅਤੇ Edwin Rozon, of Haverhill, in the open division. Perez won on points, 5-0, but the game Rozon kept firing despite being dropped in the second round.

(ਜਨਵਰੀ 27, 2017) – The red-hot action continued in last night’s quarterfinals round of the 71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship of the Central New England (Greater Lowell) division as men’s and women’s open and novice matches were held in front of another great and exceedingly loud crowd at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
Judges were very busy as all 10 exciting bouts, including a Junior Olympic match and two non-tournament bouts, went the complete distance. Individual standouts included a pair of open division boxers, welterweight ਮਾਈਕਲ Fontanez, of Nashua (N.H.), and Methuen (ਐਮ) ਮਿਡਲਵੇਟ Yarmarco Guzman.
