Much is stake for these boxers as the 2016 WALA PA. champions will qualify to represent Team New England at the National Golden Gloves Championships for men in Lafayette, Louisiana (MAYO) and women in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida (Hulyo).
The competing boxers will represent four teams at the New England Tournament of Champions: Central Bag-ong England, Western New England, Northern New England and Southern New England.

71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship

 

Lowell, Misa. (Pebrero 24, 2017) – Twelve novice division champions were crowned last night in the men and women’s finals of the New England Tournament of Champions, part of the 71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship, sa makasaysayanon nga Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
Central New England edged Western New England, 6-4, to win the team title and receive the George McGuane Award. Northern New England had the other two individual winners.
The much-anticipated showdown in the light welterweight bout lived up to its billing as Alejandro Paulino, of New London (CT), defeated Tyngsboro’s (MA) Nathan Balakin, 4-1. Paulino was presented the Louie Ayala Memorial Award as the Outstanding Boxer. Jose Ayala, Louie’s brother, made the presentation.
“We had another big, enthusiastic crowd that enjoyed watching some great matches,” miingon Bobby Russo, Bag-ong England Golden gwantes Executive Director. “The novice division finals had so many good matchups. Paulino versus Balakin was a very good fight. Karon, we move on to next week’s open division semifinals and finals of the New England Tournament of Champions.”

71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship Central N.E. semifinals results

Lowell, Misa. (Pebrero 3, 2017) – Fourteen exciting matches were held last night in the semifinals round of the 71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship, Central Bag-ong England (Labaw ka Mahinungdanon nga Lowell) division, sa makasaysayanon nga Lowell Memorial Auditorium.

Last night’s action included nine novice division semifinals matches, eight men’s and one women’s, as well as four open men’s matches. Two of the open matches featured final competitions (not semifinals like the others) as Boston light heavyweight Taylor Mears, representing The Ring gym, stopped Nahua’s (NH) John Xifaris sa ikaduhang round, and North Chelmsford lightweight Brandon Higgins edged Dorchester’s Jonathan Depina on points, 3-2.

Lowell, Misa. (Enero 27, 2017) – The red-hot action continued in last night’s quarterfinals round of the 71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship of the Central New England (Labaw ka Mahinungdanon nga Lowell) division as men’s and women’s open and novice matches were held in front of another great and exceedingly loud crowd at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
Judges were very busy as all 10 exciting bouts, including a Junior Olympic match and two non-tournament bouts, went the complete distance. Individual standouts included a pair of open division boxers, welterweight Michael Fontanez, sa Nashua (N.H.), and Methuen (MA) middleweight Yarmarco Guzman. A representative of Nashua, PAL, Fontanez is a slick, hard hitting southpaw who shutout, 5-0, a very tough Kenny Larson, of Salem (MA). Guzman, boxing out of Canal Street Gym, looked like a veteran boxer on his way to a 5-0 shutout win over Lowell’s Julien Baptiste.

Rooted in a tradition of care and compassion, Lowell Sun Charities was originally founded to respond to the ever-increasing challenges of the community. 2017 marks the 71st year the Golden Gloves have been held in the great city of Lowell, Massachusetts.
Lowell Sun Charities is a community program that not only makes champions in the ring but also makes champions in life. Every year these young athletes devote themselves to a sport which teaches discipline, respect, and clean lifestyle for a chance to win a prestigious Golden Gloves Championship.
